One of the worst grocery stores in kapolei. They run good ads on meat yet it's always empty and takes the meat dept forever to restock.

I appreciate all Safeway's organic produce options at fair prices compared to other grocery stores. I also love their Safeway select brand which is consistently delicious. Wine selection is really good and it's convenient to pick up flowers for my arrangements too. Overall clean store with good employees. Limited meat, fish and produce selections. They do carry a wide variety of dry goods and their desserts in the bakery are better than most but the lack of local produce is a turn-off. If they were to maintain the variety AND source from the local fare, Safeway could easily surpass the competition. read more

2018.11.17 It's a grocery store with little care for how long they inconvenience you with waiting. Go to Foodland instead so they can get their "sht" together. Took 25 mins to get two bottles of water and a salad. 5 10 min for salad, 15 waiting for checkout. Get self checkout already, self checkout is the reason I go to the Kunia Walmart instead of the Kapolei Walmart too. I had to run to the store super late one night and thank goodness Safeway was open. I couldn't find some noodles I needed so I went looking for help. I passed a guy who wouldn't even look at me but then I found Chris. He helped me find what I needed and suggested I try some other noodles that ended up being even better. Thanks Chris! read more

I must give Carol is the deli department 5 stars. Last Friday I was getting some lunch meat and meat already sliced was too thin and crumbling. She went is the back and open up a fresh package and sliced it up. Never once did she act as if it was a problem. She could have easily said that was all that they had. I do appreciate her awesome customer service an attention to the customer's request. She has waited on me before and is always pleasant even during the crazy $5 Friday crowd. read more

Safeway Kapolei always is our go to use the bathroom when we are in this Kapolei area, because a lot of the places nearby don't have public access to bathrooms without a key and some sort of security exchange. This is probably one of the worst Safeway's I've ever been too. It's consistently busy and perpetually understaffed. Why are there only 2 checkers working at 5pm on a Thursday? Why are there nearly 40 people in line? Because this Safeway is terrible. If you have a choice to - shop somewhere else. 9 Times out of 10 you're going to spend more time waiting around in line to pay than you will actually grocery shopping. There's a Foodland and a Target within a stones throw. Each of these also have their pros and cons - but I've never waited in line like I have at Safeway Update 4/29 - Why do I keep coming here? Just wanted to pick up some tea and gift cards, when I get to the register. The line is absurdly long, because in a store with over 10 registers, there is only 1 open one. I'd give it a lower count of starts if I could. To out icing on the bad experience cake, the register Lady was a completely rude woman who wanted me to withdraw cash instead of use my chip authenticated credit card. This woman obviously wanted to make me jump through some arbitrary hoops. After I had to reduce my gift card purchase to $100, and re-wait in the line because she failed to explain why I couldn't just use smaller incremental cards was completely even more rude of her. She then has the gall to suggest I talk to her manager. I know how the staff are at safewat, I know people that used to work there. I purchased four items separately before my family went to check out. So I walked around the store with some of my items in my hand and one in my jacket with the receipt cause my hands were full. At the end of our shopping, I went to the hair products to buy soap and one of the employees thought I was stealing & had multiple items. I told her I already and only purchased four things and showed her my receipt. I left to check out to my family and she followed and stared at my family and I for the whole 30 minutes we were there and while checking out. This post is regarding their floral department... I stopped by and asked if I could make a lei order for graduation and was told by an older lady yes I could. She took down my order and I was so excited and happy even though they were much more pricey than a florist. Day of pick up... I walk in and a younger girl comes up, she wasn't friendly at all! I ask her for my lei order and gave her my name. She pulls my order sheet and says they didn't have the butterfly lei I wanted so I was a little bummed. She told me I could pick something else, so I went to the refrigerated case and picked a lei. I walked up to the counter and she returns and tells me I have to pay for it at the front registers, I asked where the rest of my order was and she said in the refrigerated case with the rest of the leis, no one put it on the side. I asked why my leis were not pulled and placed on the side and she said the person that took my order was suppose to do that?! WOW!! I'm sorry to say, but their floral department has terrible customer service!! Unfriendly workers, unorganized and pricey. Never ever again! read more

I almost forgot why I rarely shop at Safeway Kapolei. Been awhile since I came here but since I was I the are figured hit 2 birds with 1 stone. Come across with a very rude Deli Server. She didnt hear me right and got my order wrong, so she made a very sarcastic comment " you should have told me it's not the right one. Instead of apologizing, made that comment instead. Customer service of that lady was unbelievably. Again asked me if I need anything else, so gave her an irritated tone of voice. Tried to be nice a long as I could because I couldn't bear her attitude. I just wish they have a better customer service coz I would be back here more often. Spoke to Laura, the store manager. Kat during the midnight shift was empathetic and helpful in assisting me in purchasing an alternative to Benadryl. It worked well in eliminating a bad allergic reaction. Along with her suggestion, I purchased a second allergy alternative that I ended up not opening. Customer service would not process the return the following day saying that it is company policy not to accept returns of over the counter medicine. If this policy were stated clearly on the receipt or even the company website, I would understand. read more

My first review in Hawaii and it's for a Safeway! Let's give it up for our friendly neighboorhood mainland grocers who found their way on this side of the island. Had to come here to get some major provisions (milk, eggs, fruit, yogurt, BEER...the whole 9). I also saw ahi poke at the deli. Oh how I missed you. You might be 14 bucks a pound, but to hell with it. I'm on vacation. And nothing says being back in my second home than sitting in front of the TV watching Monday Night Football with a bottle of Bud and a one lb tub of yummy ahi poke. People from the mainland....don't be surprised if stuff here is hella expensive, because it is! I got a bunch of stuff that I would only run me maybe 60 bucks at home. Easily costed me 80 here (subtracting the 20 dollar poke). Oy. read more

I was once an employee for Safeway so I know for a fact there are more than two cashiers available. Oh dear, how the mighty have fallen. Maybe it's just the holiday season, but I was seriously upset when I went to open my jar of frosting today only to find that it had already been thoughtfully opened and tested by someone else's finger and put back onto the shelf for me to later discover at my inconvenience. If only I could find the receipt, but since it got lost in the holiday bustle, I lose out on seeing just how they would handle this situation at customer service. I've now learned to double check the seal under all foods from Safeway unless it's completely wrapped and sealed in plastic. I can summarise my experience with three examples: 1). Medium LIME was $1 each!!! It was said to be "organic" and yet it was from MEXICO!!! DO NOT TRUST MEXICO FOOD. 2). CARROTS, 4 ounce for $4. It too claimed to be organic... But no proof. 3). APPLE. No way is ONE apple over $1 . I left everything and will go to Costco or a military base for +60% OFF on these unexplainable prices. Just purchased less than a pound of Havarti from the deli. Even though this is an expensive and soft cheese, the worker did not use paper to separate the cheese slices - Now I have a huge "glob" of Havarti in my fridge. I could've bought the Kraft pre-packaged for less price and mess. Go to Foodland in Kapolei - they know how to package the deli meat and cheese. read more

This is easily the best Safeway I have been to nationwide. The store is very clean and well-kept. If the store has been remodeled, I wouldn't know. The interior and exterior appear brand new, with a rustic-yet-classy feel inside. The produce is well stacked, stocked, and fresh. I especially enjoy their kiosks filled with specialty meats and cheeses. While this store is open 24-hours, I have still had to visit during peak hours and was a unimpressed with the crowds at front. In addition, it would be nice if the bakery items continued to be stocked for those midnight munchies. read more

Can someone please explain to me why there is always ONE register open on busy nights, especially since this Safeway is 24hours? This is so ridiculous to purchase one item but only to wait because there is only ONE register open at night -during summer or holidays. I really think they need at least TWO cashiers so they can make the lines shorter and quicker! Also, customers really need to stop with the coupon thing if you can not read or don't understand the rules on couponing, PLEASE PLEASE don't do it. Yes, it is clean and decently stocked. However, what drags it down so many stars is the LONG lines, SLOW cashiers (except for one, I think she is the liquor dept manager... she should be promoted or given a bonus), and NEVER opening extra registers when it is busy. Seriously, 2 cashiers will be open and the rest all shut even though there are lines down the aisles. I have walked out a few times because of this. I go to Foodland more often, even though it is further and out of the way. I actually would prefer Safeway, but Foodland always opens up registers when there are long lines, so they earn my business (unless it something that I know only Safeway will have). I just don't have the patience to shop at this Safeway location, which is a shame, I generally like Safeways. Also, the parking lot sucks to get in and out of (not their fault, but definitely a deterrent). read more

Despite the fact that Safeway has more mainland products than local (don't buy the eggs here, support local farms!) & they are very pricey with their products, this store is absolutely the best Safeway I have been too. CHECK OUT THE FLORAL DEPARTMENT! If you're looking for vases or items to decorate your house or outside that section is a must see. My mom found 3 square navy blue canvases with green & white outlined flowers for my sister's wall for $5 each! Their sandwiches are the bomb! Except the sandwich artist takes for EVER! I swear she took 3 minutes just putting on gloves!!!!!!! & she REALLY REALLY takes her time making them. If you're on your lunch break, this is really a bad place to get your lunch. Overall, super friendly store, keeps up with maintenance & appearance, if you don't mind spending an extra buck or two this store is good to go read more

Standard fare market with slightly higher prices then normal. The market is a little dimly lit for my liking. This market is supposed to be open 24/7 so why do they close their seafood section so early? I went to this place at around 7pm to get my fix of poke but when I went there the seafood section was closed. Not only that many of their other sections were closed too. I also waited in line for the cashier for about 10 minutes. It's annoying that they have signs posted that if there are more than 3 people in a line they'll open another lane but they didn't. I needed a cake for my baking show loving daughter. Her request was a layered cake with teal and pink. To my surprise I saw a slice in the bakery. I wrote the name down and called later that day to see if it was possible to get a whole cake like that. The woman I spoke with (I think Brianna) said she would check and call me back because she would have to see if another one came in. I though awe maybe a long shot. But on Friday they called back saying they got one and would reserve it for me. I came in on Saturday to pick it up and the line was a little long but another woman came to help the register. As soon as I said I was picking up a colossal unicorn cake she knew exactly who I was and even remembered my name. It was the original woman I worked with Brianna. I'm a big fan of this safeway! Open 24 hours, and perfect for the night owl in me. Ever since I somewhat changed my eating habits (paleo), I always come here for most of my grocery. Their produce is always amazing and fresh compared to grocery stores near my home. I always buy avocados from here and they come out perfect all the time. I love the fact they carry organic fruits and veggies here. Absolutely love those organic salad mixes that are already pre-washed and ready to eat out of the container! It really saves time and is so convenient especially for green smooties in the morning. I always need to buy organic strawberries/berries and idk what it is but it's always super sweet and the berries are always so pretty. They also carry grass-fed beef and wild caught seafood (located in a separate refrigerator near the poke counter). AMAZING. Depending on the cuts of grass-fed beef, you pay as little as $5 for a meaty slice. This is the only grocery place I've seen that carry actual grass-fed beef in a steak form. Usually it's all ground up and I got super tired of it really quick. They also carry bison meat. Organic, cage-free eggs as well! However I am still waiting on this location to carry grass-fed butter. Specifically the brand KERRY GOLD. I've seen it available in the Safeway in town but not here :( I do also agree on the availability of cashiers and lines. All these cashier stands yet only 1-2 cashier working.
