Plus you get to talk to the sellers about their products. You can't get any fresher then from the farmer them self. There's a different taste from produce that took weeks to ship here to the islands than a banana that most likely been picked that day or few days ago. Another reason I enjoy going to farmers market is that most vendors allow you to taste the products before you buy. This particular farmers market is run by Mahiku, which is associated with several other Farmers Markets all across the island. They also are in charge of the International Market Place farmers market, the Momilani Rec Center, Ben Parker Elementary and Honolulu Community College. Check out their website for specific times of the other locations: http://mahikufarmersmarket.com/ Location: Ewa Beach Elementary , 91-740 Papipi Road Ewa Beach, 96706 (Near Ewa Beach Shoping Center, Across of Pizza Hut & Taco Bell) Time: 9AM-1PM When: Sundays I have a sweet tooth to appease, so I was particularly looking for my next newest big sugar rush. I quickly scoped the area for cookies, brownies, ice cream, cheesecake, mochi, Filipino desserts, and candies. I was out of luck with a suguar supplier in sight that offered what I was inkling for. There were vendors selling an assortment of different local items. From vegetables, fruits, jewelry, pipikaula beef jerky, that lobster tail deal 10 for $20, thai food, Filipino food, Hawaiian food, portirican food, and so forth. There was an area to sit but it wasn't covered, so we decided to eat breakfast at Shiro's. I picked up a few snacks from a few vendors. My husband inhaled a lumpia with kalua pig and sweet potato. I purchased a baked manapua, Spanish roll (it was okay), malasada, and Thai iced tea. Decent sized Farmers Market to check out. It's only there 2nd week, so I'm sure they'll be more vendors to come.

The other location is Kalaeloa at Barbers Point. 1) The number 1 best reason to buy at a Farmers Market is that your supporting local business and helping keep your hard earned $ in Hawaii. 2) You can talk to the farmers. 3) Purchase fresh produce. 4) You can try a business idea that you have with a lower risk then renting out an actual store. 5) My kids enjoy watching the food cooked in front of them. This is a list of the different vendors my family and I have tried at the Waterfront:. It's located right next to the gym. BUK BUK KITCHEN: This vendor sells Filipino Food and local foods. Everyone here is very nice and friendly. This vendor always offers FREE samples of their tasty dishes that they serve up. MANNY'S BAKE SHOP & RESTAURANT: This vendor sells all sorts of baked goods. My sons really like the Spanish roll but I still think the Spanish rolls from Nandings is the best of the best. NORTH SHORE BAKE GOODS: My family tried an assortment of cookies. They are Costco size about $2 each. My older son gave his approving 2 thumbs up for the cookies here. We also purchase fresh produce from this farmers market but I'm unsure of the names of the vendors. This Market needs a covered area to sit. Yelp 31 day Challenge: 17/31 Buy fresh, buy local, support Hawaii.

So we try to get there before 4 PM. Our favorite vendors are: Uncle M's Smashburgers - Founded by a 17-year old James Campbell High School senior student. His employees are his friends from church and school. What a way to support this young entrepreneur! The combo meal is the best! Great food; good price. Jeremiah's Chamorro Inspired Fusion Dishes - Big portion. Great food. Wasabi Express by Tiger - Great food. And many more... The free mat (you have to roll and return it after using) is an added bonus. There's plenty of space (lawn) to eat and relax. The live music is great as well.

There's a rock gravel parking lot nearby, though it's a little tough to walk through if you have a difficult time walking or have a stroller. Would suggest dropping off and picking up those that have difficulty walking through the paved roundabout area before parking in the rock gravel lot. Look for Anna at the drink station near the giant lawn. She had free goza mats to borrow, in case you wanted to have a picnic with your family on the lawn. There are also tables and seating near the man-made wave activity. And also more tables and seating down by the restrooms as well, which are accessible via stairs or elevator. The trick to tackling this market is to look online for all the participating vendors beforehand and make a list of your favorite ones to hit up first. Go once around and place your orders as you go, then by the time you make it around again, your food should be ready! Couldn't grab food from all the food vendors in one day, because there are so many great options to choose from!

STEVE's AKAKA FALLS FARM Jams, Butters & Honey: This review…read moreis specifically for Steve's Akaka Farms Giving them 5 stars for their great tasting jams, butters, and honey! Giving 5 stars for Katy, who works at the Pearlridge Farmers Market location in Saturdays. She is a ray of sunshine, with her great smile and loves to share samples of their product. Be careful, though because when you taste the delicious products you'll have to get something! Their passion fruit habanero is amazing with cream cheese and crackers or as a glaze for meats. If you combine it with cream cheese it softens the heat. They do have one with ghost peppers or Caroline Reaper peppers but beware - I bought it for my friend who loves heat and she said it's really hot! They have amazing butters - try any of their chocolate butters and you'll think you are in heaven! Note-these are seasonal so there may be different ones available when you visit. Award winning Coconut black chocolate is absolutely amazing, rich, and decadent and the best way to eat this is to get a big spoonful then just sit there and savor the flavor. The Kona coffee dark chocolate is also amazing. Hard to decide which is better! Got a jar if passion fruit Hawaiian pepper (chili pepper) smoked pineapple Kentucky whiskey to use as a glaze for meat. Can't wait to use it. These also make great gifts to send to or give to suiting folks from the mainland to give them a taste of Hawaii. I like the POG jam for islanders who have relocated to the mainland because it's like a taste of home. Kona coffee butter and mango are also divine. I have the mango for me...! I also got a jar of the mango honey and it's marvelous, too! These are high quality and a bit pricey, but after going to the craft fair at the Blaisdell, the prices are not too much more if not comparable. ...AND they are available weekly! If you go and sample a flavor you like, be sure to ask if it's seasonal (such as mango) or not. If it's seasonal - get it. It may not be available again until the next season. Me
