I used to purchase all my gift cards at the gift card mall at this Safeway until today. I purchased a Home Depot gift card worth $40 for my friend's birthday. She tried to use it and was told it was never activated. Weird because I had my purchase receipt AND the activation confirmation receipt. The numbers on the activation receipt and on the gift card did NOT match. Sounds kinda shady, shady to me. I believe I was scammed. When I returned to the store to complain, I was told to call Safeway's 877 # and file a ticket. I called all afternoon and was put on endless hold and never got to talk to anyone. This Safeway is open 24 hours? Sweet! The Safeway is located at the Fremont Hub next to Target and Bed Bath & Beyond. It is your average Safeway. I actually think the prices at Safeway aren't that cheap sometimes. The prices at Smart & Final Extra, Raley's, and even Target are often cheaper. However, the self-checkouts at Safeway are pretty easy to use - the ones at Raley's are just awful, and the other two places don't have self-checkout. This Safeway also has a NexCycle recycling in the parking lot. You can get your recycling vouchers redeemed at guest services. read more

This Safeway is located at the Fremont Hub and it is usually packed in the afternoon. The staff is very friendly and are always helpful. This is one of the bigger size stores and they are pretty well stocked. I love their Deli department and their bakery. Also they keep their sale items pretty well stocked. I have an addiction to Orangina and Aqua Panni Water and this store does stock both of them. I recommend always using your Safeway card to make sure you get the best deals. If you ever have pricing conflicts Safeway does believe in Superior Service which I can say that because I worked for Safeway for over 15 years. I also like this store because it is so busy they have a high turn over of their produce and meats so that is always a good sign. read more

Pretty much like every other Safeway, except the customer service was incredible--everyone was super friendly and always went out of their way to ask me if I needed help, even if they were going on break. Just watch out near the sandwich line--I was having one made and a fly decided to chill on my avocado. Upside found my prenatal pills buy one get one half off! Folic acid and dha 60 pills per bottle. I'm 6 months so I'm set for the remainder of my pregnancy. Only 20 bucks! But why in the world would you put prenatal viatamins on the 2 bottom shelves? Bending over is not on my to-do list right now! You must have had a man stock this section. Thank goodness a nice customer helped me find the best deal and handed me the products, cuz I would have walked away out of frustration. A pregnant women shouldn't be bending over. I've been a happy customer at this Safeway for many years (great deals, lots of savings), but recently, it seems like my checkout experience has been bad about every other time. I was waiting for the third strike before writing this review (first yelp review too!). The fifth to last trip was when I first noticed something odd with my receipt when I got home. I was charged for this unknown item (~$4) that was not on my shopping list, and I verified that this unknown item was not in my shopping bags either. Fool me once, shame on you. In the second to last trip, I noticed a package of hot dogs (wet like it was left out for awhile) in my shopping bags when putting my groceries in the car (I did not buy hot dogs, so I was very confused). I checked my receipt and saw they charged me for it (another ~$3), so I had to wait in line at customer service for about 10 minutes to get my money back. In the last trip, I was double charged for an item ($3.50) and had to wait in line at customer service for about 10 minutes to get my money back. This is not too big of a deal for me, but to think this could be happening to hundreds of other people makes me sad. It's like they are trying to make an extra 5-10% off of everyone to pay for the recent renovations or something. I'll still shop at this Safeway, but I'm going to keep a close eye on my receipt every time from now on. I urge everyone else to do the same, especially if your total is more than $30. read more

We love going to Safeway so it's hard to write a bad review on our experiences here. The last few times we have needed help at the customer service desk and there is either someone helping a customer in front of us and going really slow or no one at the desk at all and we've had to wait 10+ minutes for service. I'm not sure how this place is staffed, but we were here on a day it's not as crowded and some staff didn't have anyone in their lines. But, they had to call someone else to help at the customer service line. I've been so disappointed if I've had to return or exchange or get a refund on something because it's been slow. Everything else about the store is awesome. I mean even the workers around the store are helpful, but the customer service desk is lacking. read more

This is usually my to-go grocery store. There are other grocery stores around this area, but I usually go to this one. It's the closest one from my house and the nicer ones I'll say... Their store is pretty organized and they always restock their items, so their ingredients are fresh. The best thing about this store is that they OPEN 24 HOURS! Where else can I find another store that opens for 24 hours? Best place to go when you want to buy snacks late at night. Also, you can sample their candies when no one is looking... not like I do, just saying... Overall, it's a grocery store, it has everything that you need in a grocery store... what else can I add? I had the worst cake experience I have ever had with Safeway last week! First when I went into the bakery to order the lady at the counter was rude and not friendly, then she told me I only had a window of 3pm to 6pm to pick up cakes. Since when can you only pick up cakes during those hours each day? Then I ordered a Unicorn cake from the book of pictures (see attached picture) and requested a chocolate cake with bananas in the middle. I picked up my cake a few days later. The cake DID NOT look like what I was expecting (see picture) I was told qh2n I complained that not all people in the bakery know how to decorate the cakes like the pictures in the book, well why not train their bakers or not sell cakes you can't make! Then I asked why the writing was so horrible she said my daughters name was too long. By this point I'm pissed. and my 5 year old who is turning 6 said it's ok I will still take it so i did cause she wanted a unicorn cake. Well we cut it at her birthday party and what on the inside it's a white cake with strawberries! My daughter has an allergy to Strawberries! I am livid at this point because she cant 3ven eat her own cake at her own birthday party! I went back to Safeway and showed them my order tag that clearly showed what I ordered and was refunded. Safeway - Tres Leches This place has been consistently inconsistent with their Tres Leches!!! (Only with the medium size two tier) How can one go wrong with it. Plz plz plz make sure to pour enough milk to soak the cake......! Super duper dry - as good as a plain bare cake. I have informed the backing team at the register so many times but no use. Since Safeway began delivery service, I've ordered delivery from them dozens of times. There's always at least one error on my order, usually several, but it's been bearable because I get most of what I ordered. Yesterday, I ordered $160.00 of groceries to be delivered today between 8AM-12PM (noon). I received an order confirmation and they even ran a $1.00 charge on my credit card. That's a change from their previous system but it's OK. At 11:55AM, I started wondering what was wrong and e-mailed them at the address on the order confirmation. 5 minutes later, I got an automatic reply that said to call them if it was urgent. I waited a while longer and finally called. Of course, it was answered by an automated voice and I then sat on hold for 18 minutes, listening to elevator music. I finally hung up and and called back 30 minutes later. Same thing, only this time I hung up after 12 minutes. Still not having heard a word about when my delivery would arrive, I decided to see if they'd run the full charge through for the order. Nope. That points to the order not even having been processed at all! It's now 4:00PM and I haven't heard a word from anyone about this order that was supposed to have been delivered 4 hours ago at the latest! Once again, Safeway proves to be incompetent in multiple ways. They really deserve to go out of business. UPDATE: Incidentally, a few days later, I happened to think to check my online account with Safeway to see what showed up there. The order has disappeared completely (even though I have a fully itemized order confirmation with an order number, etc., received via e-mail on the day I placed the order). read more

Unwrapped our thanksgiving turkey the night before thanksgiving to find a red and purple turkey. Yuk!! Called Safeway in Newark which was closer and the customer service person was rude and unhelpful. Drive back to Fremont and spoke to Tad, in customer service who was very helpful and took care of us by swapping out for a fresh turkey since there was no time to defrost another. Best Safeway in town! This is my go to Safeway. They are always well stocked and have everything I look for. The staff here is super, if the shelf is out, they'll go to the back and look for some refills. I love how it's in a super convenient shopping center. I've been shopping here every week for sparkling rose' 6-packs (sometimes 2) for my business. Every time I try to buy Veuve Clicquet rose', it's a disaster. Nobody will help & keeping it locked in the back is a bit over the top. Ok, so that's just inconvenient. More recent disasters include me asking multiple workers- from passersby to Deli to workers in the back where its kept. I'm trying to help prevent long lines. I've been told, "That's not my job"; "You need to go find a manager"; and "Ask someone in the liquor dept."!! NOBODY WORKS by the wine. All it takes is a simple customer service overhead page. Last time, I went through all of this only to find out they can't find it & think it's outta stock. Didn't sound too sure & I didn't get the impression anyone looked very hard. The cashier apologized for this poor service & I know these workers know better than to send a customer in circles. I recommend training staff on customer service, consider having someone work around the alcohol since there's obviously a fear people will steal bc it's kept in the back; up sell me on an alternative product (I'm trying to spend here!); and at least have product boxes on the shelf in stock! I'm seriously considering eating a few extra bucks to have an easier time at TJ's and Raleys. If anyone there even cares about my regular business (& frequently buying out popular sparkling rose' brands), ya might consider an apology, fixing the problems & offering a gift card for my trouble and to keep my weekly business. If this wasn't the closest Safeway to me, I'd seriously go somewhere else. Thank goodness they have delivery! Delivery service: 4/5. The drivers are polite, on-time (sometimes early, but I'm not complaining), and efficient with bringing the groceries in. Honestly, the 2-star rating only exists because of the wonderful delivery service I've experienced. Safeway itself: 1.5/5. They have an excellent selection of products and are mostly well-stocked. The produce selection is decent, but if you want non-brown bananas, you gotta go first thing in the morning. The sushi selection, believe it or not, is quite good! That's where the positive feedback stops. The line: I can spend 10 minutes getting my groceries, but 30-45mins in a line waiting to check-out. No joke. The lines are ALWAYS ridiculously long. Self-checkout is available, but half the time the machine doesn't scan so you have to call an employee over to work their magic on it (which probably takes 5 minutes because they're busy with someone else or just not around). The cashiers are mostly unenthused about, well, everything. Some of them are super friendly and will chat with you. Others, are rude as hell even if you try to kill them with kindness. WATCH OUT FOR DOUBLE SCANNING. There's a particular cashier human who has a tendency to double scan items and not say anything or not remove it. This has happened to us almost every time we encounter this cashier. I once called it out before swiping my card and the person grumbled while removing the double item. Not sure what that was all about. If you don't catch it and have to return for a refund, good luck finding someone at Customer Service to help you. Ghost. Baggers are rarely around so if you are behind an "entitled" person who refuses to bag their own stuff, expect to be in line for another 5-10mins while that person awkwardly stares at the cashier hastily bagging their stuff. When baggers are present, they're usually slow, so sometimes you're better off doing it yourself but it's the thought that counts, right? Overall, this place sucks. I've never had an issue with Safeway till I decided to try their pick up services not only did they give me literally whatever was the closest items they could find to what I had chosen they also missed a lot of items and was charged $80+ dollars for groceries I didn't even receive.. Terrible service from some of the staff which is not that often but I have high threshold for rudeness and I often wear a thick skin when I am out, so some people may disagree. The bakery person who I was asking questions about ordering a wedding cake was a Jerk. He was walking away, and throwing stuff on the back counter, NOT Only was he u helpful, his Attitude exuded negativity. He said I don't have any cake that size, he assumed I was gonna order a cake that day, and when he did try to take my order, all he did was tell me what your bakery couldn't do, instead of suggesting and or be helpful. I'm rating the deli counter based on a 12/2/2016 visit around 7:30PM. The store was pretty dead and a male employee (assumption based on facial scruff) was slowly re-stocking the chicken. My wife walks up to the counter and is basically ignored standing there for a couple minutes (no way he doesn't see her through the glass case). When he finally acknowledged her presence, he didn't even look up, but continued to give the chicken a grumpy face. Seriously Safeway, you need to hire some guest shoppers, and "drain the swamp." Everytime I go to shop here or even walk by the building I get harrassed by people begging or trying to guilt trip me into giving them money or trying to get me to sign stuff which I personally find pretty irritating. Today I had a person ask me to read some petitions and he bragged to me he gets paid for every signature he collects and after reading what they were for I said I dont agree with these and walked away and I heard him making a snide remark about me while I walked away. So I called customer service to complain and I was told that they know who I am talking about but the store allows him to be on the store property and that they have permission from the store so nothing can be done. The issues with this store do not stop with the outside however some of the employees are pretty rude too. I had to use the restroom so I asked an employee for the code to open the bathroom and they said I had to go to the front and ask for someone to open the door so I do that and someone comes to open the door but the door he opens has a person inside using the sink and I tell him someone is in here can you open the other one and he completely ignores me and walks away. This store has been steadily going downhill since my wife and I moved to this area 4 years ago. In general, I've been a fan of Safeway for the 45+ years I've been doing my own grocery shopping but this place gives them a black eye. We use the online buying program fairly regularly, but our orders are generated out of this store and the mistakes are constant. On our most recent order, we spent an hour auditing the final bill against the order we placed. Between missed coupons, missed club card savings, and mis-pulled items, we found in $18.00 in mistakes we were overcharged for. Did they refund us? Yes they did, but only with close to 2 hours of our time invested in getting to that point. Back in late August, they screwed up so badly on a large order that it took three days to get it all ironed out. If you physically go into the store, it's worse yet. They are notorious for understaffing on checkers, and it's not at all uncommon to wait in line for 30 minutes. I've personally witnessed numerous occasions where customers (including myself) were so frustrated that they were ready to abandon their carts in line and walk out. I've seen lines 20 people deep, extending up into the isles to the point that shoppers can't get to the items they need because people are waiting in long lines. We're not talking peak hours the day before Christmas here, either. I'm talking about your normal shopping days. I've tried calling and speaking with a manager, but that's a giant expercise in futility. Three messages left over the past year have resulted in virtually zero follow up from a manager. The only positive I can offer is that the customer service personnel at Safeway delivery support are excellent... really helpful even in bad situations. Bottom line, we're done with this store, and possibly with Safeway in general. We'll be exploring our options going forward. read more

As a former Safeway employee, I was always drilled on providing "Superior Customer Service." This Safeway has definitely missed that memo. When you ask for something at Safeway, the customer service representative is supposed to delivery or do whatever they can. Whether that be telling a customer that a can of tuna is on aisle 4, half-way down, on the left hand side, and on the 3rd shelf from the bottom and then running to that location to grab the item for the customer or attending to the floral department when the lead florist has left for the day and doing the best job you can to wrap some flowers for a desperate customer, the staff is supposed to deliver. It's these little things that make Safeway a great grocery store. This Safeway definitely does not do the above. The staff is rude, impatient, and only care about doing as little as possible. This store is a black-eye to the Safeways of California and I will never visit here ever again. read more

I got one pound each of chicken salad and turkey salad.The chicken salad was alright,but the turkey salad was super greasy like it was a few days old or borderline outdated.And they use FUCKING SODA LIDS on their containers.You know,the cheap plastic soda lids that crack after you take them off once and have a slit on the top for a straw.I dont know how that's sanitary for something perishable.
