Late September '19 - they have completed a major remodel. The most distinct differences to me were - a nice and expanded floral dept. I was impressed. Also, they ditched the linoleum flooring for just polished cement (not sure if that's proper term). Easier on the eyes and modern. They already had self check out but it appears they expanded with 3 more registers. This Safeway has a DMV kiosk for registration, and potentially other basic services. Didnt check the full list. It's a large Safeway, I dont come to this location super frequently but when I do it seems well stocked and neat. The only real issue is lines can back up badly here,especially during the traditional 'after work' hour or two. read more

I actually like this Safeway! It always seems to be clean, and the workers are pretty helpful too. I was in a hurry trying to pick up soda for a party, and my cart knocked down one of the drinks and spilled open! Totally embarrassed! The attendant saw everything, kept calm and simply asked for a clean up like it was nothing. They also have great "$5 Friday" deals that I look forward to, and great finds on their Safeway app. When you download the app you'll find a "Special Offers" section where you can find great discounts. Often times they have "$5 off $25" or "4X rewards on your next shopping trip" both totally easy to use! I also love how Safeway links their rewards with gas! I'm going to grocery shop anyways, why not shop at Safeway to also save on gas! So the way this works is for every $1 you spend, you get 1point. Collect 100 points, and you get a $0.10/gal off Chevron Gas. Not much, but it's better than nothing if you're shopping anyways. read more

This review is for Safeway having the kiosk for DMV registrations. It took me all of 5 minutes to get my car registration. The government (DMV) finally did something right by setting up this machine locally. Instant DMV tags beats waiting in line at the DMV. It also beats waiting in the dumb a** USPS to mail them. I would not recommend this safeway because I had a horrible experience with their night manager, Selena. We went grocery shopping for the week, which means we purchased a bunch of stuff. At check out, after we paid, a lady, named Selena, gave us a receipt that had nothing on it. See the attached photo. The entire left side was blank; all it showed were the numbers on the right. I always check my receipts after I purchase mass amounts of groceries to make sure the prices are correct, especially when the teller is going so fast that I can't watch all the prices. I've found them double scanning things by accident or typing in the wrong codes so I make it part of my regular check out routine. We spent over $100 that day on groceries so I needed to make sure things were correct. I recognize this is slightly OCD, but I am just not loose with my money! I work hard for my $$ so I am responsible with it! Anyways, I told Selena that half of our receipts were missing and asked her to reprint them. She said that she couldn't reprint because it would just print it the same way. I told her I needed a receipt so what can I do. She said there is nothing we can do and started scanning the next persons groceries. I thought it was so rude. My fiance and I were pushed away from the stand because she was scanning already and decided we would speak to a manager to figure it out. We asked Selena if we could talk to someone in charge. She said, "I am the person in charge." I asked her why she would keep using a broken stand when there were 7 empty ones that likely worked and printed receipts. She was on #8 and #1-#7 were free. It was 9 pm at night so plenty of room to move. She said that the receipts only started printing bad a few customers before me so she didn't switch. I asked her why she would continue using a stand that doesn't work with multiple customers. She should've switched at the first sign of her stand being broken. She gave me a blank stare and said there was nothing she could do. Really? Selena was the manager and should have thought this through. Safeway definitely needs more training on problem solving, managing, and customer service. Selena should've at least told us the machine wasn't working before ringing us up so we would have a chance to move to self check out to get a receipt, instead of ringing us up and then giving us blank receipts, especially because she knew in advance that her stand was broken!!! It is common sense. I worked retail for years and that was what we always did when our machines were broken so the customer was on notice and had a choice. We were done with Selena so we went to the self-check out lady for help. She told us to go to customer service. At least she gave us a solution and was polite. We found Francis at customer service and he said no problem. He could reprint and took our receipts in the back and reprinted it for us. But it took a long time because he had to go through all transactions for the whole day. And they came out crazy confusing. We couldn't even understand them because the discounts were on page 5 and the purchase price was on page 1 and things were printed multiple times on the receipt at the wrong price. It was insane. But Francis was nice. We asked to file a complaint, but Francis said there were no forms and advised us to call in the morning. I honestly don't think Safeway would care or do anything if I filed a complaint. I might still call because they took away 1 hr of my life, and the manager, who they selected to be in charge and solve problems, was rude, ignored us, didn't even give a suggestion on how to fix the problem, pushed us out, and kept doing it after we left!!!! At 10 pm, we decided to finally give up. We had no real way of checking our purchase or even having something to return food. My fiance was tired and fed up. Maybe they charged us more, but it wasn't worth our time. I knew they charged more because asparagus was ringing up at $5.95 when it was $2.99 a pound and the granola was $3.33 when it should've been $3.00. And there were mistakes where she added olives that we didn't buy and had to remove them. Ketchup was $2.99, but should've been $1.79. it was crazy and the reason why I pushed so hard for a receipt. She was moving at the speed of light while checking us out, which is good, but causes mistakes that we needed to check!! And the kicker is...when we left.. Selena was still on #8!!!!!! Are you kidding me!!! After all this, she never moved or fixed it. Just kept printing blank receipts for people. I think Safeway should rethink who they put in leadership positions and revamp their customer service. I don't like foodmaxx so I always came to this safeway, but now, I'd rather buy unhealthy box food at foodmaxx than fresh produce to avoid giving Safeway my money!!! That's how upset I was after this encounter. But it is less about money and more about the principles of poor business practices and bad customer service! read more

This is my all time favorite Safeway in the area! I love the service here. Location is always clean inside & out! Everything is always well stocked from produce, to the deli, even in the aisles. Safeway has the best sandwiches! What's subway? Warm or cold! Ham, turkey, bacon, pepperoni, etc. so many choices. They even had a wide selection of hot deli food mac n cheese, macaroni saldad, potato wedges, crispy chicken strips which are AMAZING by the way!!!!! So good, not kidding. Etc. They have a DMV renewal registration station! So cool, not to mention it's free of charge!! No fee's. So I'd hop on that if I were y'all and need your registration up to date. They also recently (in the last couple months) added new signs "fast & friendly service" if there are more than 3 people in line they will open up another check stand. I hear a-lot of people complaining on yelp about it. I personally haven't ever had to wait in line. I'm always usually in & out. So I must just be luckier than others and come at great times lol. read more

Short Story: It's an okay Safeway. Long Story: I've been here several times in the past few years and it's been alright. The quantity of products are good but the quality is poor. In addition the number of employees on the floor is lacking. It's better than the Safeway on Washington Avenue however. Parking is pretty good as it's located in a large strip mall. They have Lucerne fat-free milk if you buy 1 gallon it's $2.99 or buy 2 for $4.28. The Safeway card offers no special discount for this. I bought 2 of course. Gotta drink lots of Milk! I've been going to the Safeway at the Fremont Hub for over 25 years. It used to be awesome. But some combination of the purchase by Albertsons and management incompetence has nearly ruined it. They are always out of sale items - with the excuse that the warehouse didn't send it, or that hordes of people came in and bought everything. (The other supermarkets in the area seem not to run out of things.) Some of the shelves look like Soviet era stores, bare of food. Come on people, get your logistics in order! On the plus side, the professional checkers are great, with authority to fix problems without calling a manager and making you wait ten minutes. They all deserve raises. The Safeway website and rewards program is far better than Lucky's and Raleys. Great bargains if you plan. Assuming they don't run out of stuff, of course. read more

Bakery-I was really bummed out about how my daughters cake turned out. My baby loves Spider-Man so I got her a Spider-Man cake I specifically asked (and they wrote it on the order) to have all the piping in red so it wouldn't look so much like a boy cake. When I got the cake the piping was blue and the design didn't even cover the entire top of the cake, there was a gap on it. It was just kind of a crappy cake. Don't shop here if you don't want to be harassed by their employees about returning carts. Around 8 PM last night my wife and I were walking out of the store with our groceries when someone starts shouting "Sir!" "Sir" "Sir the cart is going to lock". We're parked right in front, to the left of store, before USPS. If you've been here or know what I'm talking about, it's maybe 50ft from the store? Where the hell does this guy think I'm going? Once his shouting gets my attention I stop, turn around, give him a thumbs up acknowledging him and proceeded with my cart. We then get to our car and start loading and guess what? Our cart didn't lock because we weren't parked on the other side of the plaza. We're maybe halfway done loading our groceries when I noticed that same man is approaching us. Keep in mind it's dark, he doesn't look like an employee, he's a big person and walking toward us. I don't know if I'm about to get into a fight or what. He then asks for the cart back when we're still loading our groceries. As if the cart came out of his own personal stock or something. Great customer service from Dirk during my recent visit to this location. He assisted with locating an item that was sold out.

The woman working the bakery was very nice. They were out of stock of the cake I want but I picked out an alternative! This Safeway literally had 2 cashiers open. You'd figure between the hours of 5pm-8pm on a weekday (when everyone is getting off work), they'd have more cashiers as we have hungry families at home and we're all exhausted from a long days work. My cashier literally messed up on all 3 transactions before mine. Self checkout had a line a mile long. So they didn't have the cake I wanted and it took forever to checkout. I know we all 'need' grocery stores but there are alternatives. read more

I stopped by last night at Safeway to pick up a balloon, but realized that balloons are not just at the Flowers area, but strewn about all the aisles. Not effective for me, but I get it. They want you to go through all the place. I was in a hurry. So lucky for me, there were balloons at the check out stands too. So I picked one out and be careful, some of the balloons are not inflated enough. I then as able to use the self service checkout stands and I was out! Parking wasn't too bad as it does share a huge lot with the Fremont Hub Shopping Center.
