I had mixed feelings when I shopped at this location. It's one of my favorite Safeway's because it's the most updated store and I love the layout, restroom location and sitting area by Starbucks, located inside Safeway. There was only one cashier open, besides the self check, so I waited in line for at least 15 minutes, because there was a customer that had an issue that took time to resolve. I was actually the last in line for most of that time, but when the line grew, and I was next, they eventually opened another line. Instead of inviting me over, others behind me scrambled into the new line, and approximately 3 customers behind me checked out before my transaction started. I would've been upset, but my cashier was Brian (according to my receipt), who I think might be one of the managers because he is so efficient, knowledgeable about everything Safeway, and extremely kind and understanding to the customers. He's the reason that I am satisfied with my visit today. After I checked out, I went to Customer Service for a raincheck and waited about 10 minutes, but the staff was behind the doors, and never turned to see if anyone needed service. So I walked over to self check to ask the cashier if I could get a raincheck on a sale item. He told me that I needed to go to customer service. I told him I see her through the glass, but she was occasionally having a conversation to her right and never noticed i was waiting, so he went to get her. After asking for the raincheck, explaining the shelf for the product was empty, she said there may be some in the back. The clerk came back and said they don't carry it, but Brian was walking by and mentioned they do. They checked while I waited again and they said they don't carry it. I mentioned I buy it at the other location when I'm in that area. She mentioned that I could go there, and declined the raincheck because it was the first day of the sale. When i explained I may not be able to go back before the sale is over, because I'm an oxygen patient, and 73, and it's difficult for me sometimes, she still declined to provide the raincheck, so I was very disappointed. Other than that, if it weren't for Brian, and his kindness and efficiency, I may have left saying, I'll never come back to this Safeway. read more

This is a fairly new Safeway location which opened in Oct 2024. So glad for this new location. Grocery shopping here has always been a positive experience. Located at a small plaza with plenty of parking. It is well stocked and clean. For this visit, only needed a few items as I have a gift voucher I received from work back during the Christmas holidays. Used the voucher and picked up some healthy frozen fruits to make smoothies. Got some frozen strawberries, mango, and triple berry packs (blackberry, blueberry and raspberry). Staff here are always friendly and very helpful. Not all grocery stores take the voucher and the staff here are very aware and competent on how to process it as payment. read more

The customer service sucks at this Safeway. I have tried this store multiple times. The cashiers do not greet the customers and are not friendly. Today, I had the same experience as a previous reviewer where the cashier chatted it up with the White person in front of me. Then, acted like he didn't hear me when I said hello to him and was quiet and uninterested while ringing me up. I will drive a mile more to Nugget next time. The customer service is better, the selection is better, and your groceries don't come with a side of racism. read more

This is review is for AMANDA (floral dept.) she was very helpful, patient and understanding. She went above and beyond on looking for an item a specific plant for me and even when to check inventory along with the quantity and price on stock. As soon as I get to the store, the other cashier wasn't so nice at first, I wasn't going to walk out with an item that was not priced properly, I honestly could have but I was honest to check on it again. This person eventually helped me, charged me $19.99 because that's the price she knew on top of her head without checking the actual price. I asked for a discount because of the damage leashes. She said they'll compose them if the plants are not bad/dried up, she eventually gave me a discount but I honestly wish that the interaction was smoother and simple. read more

We were in the area and wanted some groceries. I forgot that this place was even here. I think they need to do more advertising for this location. It seems to be kind of tucked away. Not on most people radar. The place is still new and looks nice. When we entered and started walking through the front entrance. I think the cold cut section and deli. all the shelves were bare. I mean a lot of them. No stock on hand. I hope they were just cleaning but it didn't look like they were. I picked up some milk and other items. Went through the self checkout. nice and fast. This is the newest Safeway in the greater Sacramento Metro. It's been opened about 1 year maybe almost 2 year now. It's big, clean, bright, and generally a safe shopping place. I like that there's a big and spacious lobby area plus a Starbucks with a big seating area. There's also Wi-Fi, so this is great for working at a coffee shop inside a grocery store. I didn't have much interactions with the staff here, but self check out was smooth and the checker that manned this area was friendly and helpful when I needed to cancel 1 item. As for the food, fruits & veggies, and other items like pantry foods, this Safeway had a lot stocked as it's bigger so I found everything I needed. This is a nicer Safeway than other locations and I'm glad I can get here in about 20m from my home. read more

Absolutely disappointed and beyond frustrated with the Chinese cuisine section at Safeway deli Friday night. I got off work looking forward to grabbing a hot meal after a long day, only to arrive at 6:40 PM on a Friday and find the entire section already shut down. What makes this even more irritating is that this has happened before, and the last time I was specifically told they were NOT supposed to close until 8 PM. I was reassured it would be addressed and wouldn't happen again... yet here we are. Meanwhile, every other section of the deli was still open and operating like normal, which makes this look even more unprofessional and poorly managed. Customers rely on posted business hours, especially people getting off work late who are trying to grab dinner instead of going home and cooking. Instead, I wasted my time, my gas, and my patience driving there for absolutely nothing. And with gas pushing nearly $7 a gallon, that's not something people can just shrug off anymore. Management seriously needs to address this ongoing issue because it's unfair to customers and reflects badly on the store as a whole. If the Chinese cuisine section closes earlier than advertised whenever employees feel like it, then post the real hours instead of misleading customers. This Safeway is closest to my home. My family has been here several times. I, however, just got around to checking it out for myself!! This Safeway is a one stop shopping for me. They have ABSOLUTELY the freshest and cleanest root vegetables! Lots of a wide variety of vegetables!! I was in heaven!! You'll find the hard to find to your common everyday stuff. They offer salads in a bag as well. Obviously, lots of fresh fruits. As far as grocery shopping goes, they have section aisles of produce, meats, baking goods, pasta, condiments, chips/crackers, bakery, drinks, cleaning supplies, gift cards, coffees/teas, frozen foods, to fast foods and candy and so much more!!! The store was so bright and clean!! Nice wide aisles. The employees were helpful and friendly. I'm sure they have nice clean bathrooms. I did not venture there! There's lots of registers here. Only two were running, but not busy at all. We opted to check out the self checkout. It was a nice painless experience. Overall, a FANTASTIC experience for me!! If you do not have a loyalty card, get one!! I downloaded the Safeway app on my phone. It's easier to click all the sales items and extra savings at home!! There's ample parking!! There is also a section for the EV charging/parking as well. Ohhhhh!! The aisle signage that tells you where everything is has another special feature!! Brand new Safeway in the Elk Grove area. Review for deli area: I like the selection of food in deli. They also offer food you can prepare or there's already prepared food. Deli has sandwiches, Chinese food, prepped sushi, fried and grilled chicken, etc. Con: to deli area, especially sandwich-makers, sometimes it takes a while to find an employee to assist. I dont know if other "depts" cant assist each other but good luck trying to have someone in the Chinese food area make you a sandwich. It has to be specific staff, I guess. Someone has to explain that to me. Overall, the deli area is clean. There is a small area to maybe sit and eat if you wanted but table/chairs are limited. read more

I just did a pick up order and good thing I checked the bag before leaving! I only purchased 3 items and was so excited to try the Hero brand tortillas. I pulled them out and they were half covered in mold! It was so bad that the mold was flaking off and looked like dirt all inside the bag and at the bottom of the bag. The expiration was February and it is August. Who in their right mind would give these to a customer?!?? When grabbing the bag there is no way that someone didn't notice this!! I hope my video uploads because it is so disgusting!! I will definitely not be returning to this location. I also had a bad experience here months ago when I ordered a sandwich platter for my daughter's birthday. We called days in advance and ordered them with a date and time. On the day of when I showed up they did not have them! The note was overlooked and no one made them! I came here to restock on my half & half milk, bottled waters. I've been here at least three times now. I didn't know they were since mid 2024. Or keep forgetting that they opened. Last night I was there and tried to pay with one of my debit cards. The worker at the self serve registers was kind enough to let me stand closer to the entrance for a few seconds to unlock my card for a few seconds. He let me and I was able to pay off my items. The store is clean and food seems organized. However, I went to grab some cheese, and 2 packs were expired. One from June and one from July. I saw a staff, possibly a manager, yell at an another employee near the meat department in the back of the store because i think they had been unreachable. I'm not sure what the staff had beef doing but i felt bad for him. I mean, everyone manages differently, but no grown person should be yelling at another person like that. That just seems like a toxic environment to be around. The checkout clerk, gave free bags to the person before me, but not me? What's up with that lol. Maybe it's because he was talking them up, but then crickets with me? Hopefully it wasn't because I was Latino and the previous shopper had been white. Lastly, I didn't have a pleasant experience with customer service. I was trying to work through a pricing issue. I think something was mispriced. It was coming up as something different. But the clerk said he didn't have time to figure it out since he had to go to his next thing and I had to take it as it was or leave it. I feel like most any other store, that rep goes out and verifies that the price is correct on the item. I'm not saying the customer is always right, but at least do your due diligence. Anyways, I normally don't review grocery stores, but this one seems to be soo poorly managed, with staff that don't have basic customer service training, and so I figured I'd at least share my experience. This Safeway is the closest grocery store to those that live in South Elk Grove so it's super convenient and a nice addition to the neighborhood. They usually are stocked with everything I've needed (even some rare/hard to find items) so thumbs up. Now for the negatives. On multiple occasions, I've had to scan my receipt as sale prices & such were not honored. Having to look at your receipt after every shopping trip is an extra step. Also, it's definitely not my fault that your tags are expired but still showing the special deal. This last trip today really took the cake. The manager on site, Christopher, looked super annoyed that I was bothering whatever he was doing in his office. There was no apology or acknowledgement that the mistake was on their end (they had a b1g1 free for the Marie's dressing that was apparently expired but the tags were still all there). Boa, an associate who asked me to show her my 2 jars of dressing and the receipt, was oblivious that I had just checked out even though the cashier that checked us out just told her that info. I had told them I'll gladly go back and take a photo to show them, but all 3 people ignored that. After discussing amongst themselves (no clue why this was needed), I had to walk with Boa to prove the tag was still up. This just took too much time and effort. I really didn't need the dressing and should have just not bought it if I knew the trouble it would have caused. On that note, I might need to frequent the other grocery stores and plan my trip accordingly as this Safeway has had way too many price mistakes and bad customer service. Went to this "new" Safeway location for the first time. It was opened since Oct 2024 and almost a good 6 months, so I figured out I will give it a try now. The store is very clear. The store arrangement is like any other Safeway. Floral / gift near the front with fruit, bakery, hot food, sandwiches near the entrance. We got the sandwich and for 6 inch it was $8.99 + tax. It is decent, but the price is not good. They are understaffed and the wait is a bit. The same hardworking nice lady who serve me the fried chicken was the same person made the sandwich for me as the other lady is too slow and the guy before just walked out to take a break. I mean the staff is nice, but I just don't see how they can do it. The deli department is lacking ingredients needed to make the sandwich and no one helping out to replenish them. The sauce bottles are out and they are just squeezing air (your know those moms trying to use the last bit of shampoo or toothpaste? it's like that! when there is a line near lunch hour). The other lady is also very nice, but she was all over the place. She is literally hogging up the counter space that should fit 2-3 staff. They are just lack of staff and help, which is a pity. I checked out the cake section. Lots of options. Prices NOT better than other competition in the area. I am not sure if I will go for theirs given the prices. But if you are there they surely have everything to meet your need! They have the lottery machine, coin machine, and stuff after the cashier. Which is a bonus. There are plenty of self serve cashier. Which is nice. Seriously I think the hot food area staff just need help. I went before lunch hour and it was like that already. I could not imagine what would happen during rush hours. They also have a Starbucks near the entrance. I have to double check to make sure it was a Starbucks. 2 Starbucks in 1 complex is super interesting. Not sure how that competition goes. I thought it was so funny. So if one is busy, I guess try the other one literally down like 50 steps away. I also made a purchase at the floral / gift section near the entrance as I was exiting. The young lady there is very polite and nice. Love how she kept that area nicely organized. Not all Safeway has a neat floral / gift section like hers! And they have balloons for any last minute gifting ideas. I think I will return despite the low ratings. I hope there will be more perks as members for savings. The product they serve is good, but I don't know who is hiring these people, and who is training them, and who is letting them work like this, but that person needs to see this. My experience at the sandwich counter, cold cuts counter and hot food counter all the same. The employees are incredibly slow, don't seem to understand what the customer wants and make it seem like we're bothering them when we request service. Came to the Bruceville location at 11AM on 4/21/26. All the departments are poorly stocked. In produce, only about 5 heads of celery which were beaten up, only 8 green bell peppers which were shriveled.In milk, the Lucerne 2% half gallon only had 1 with a date of 4/28. The rest were all 4/21 (today)! No black bean refried beans and no Planters cocktail peanuts. The nut section was all mixed up probably from people trying to find what they want.More than half of the self checkout lanes were closed and there was only one cashier working in the regular check out aisles. This store apparently poorly managed (Kiki Owens) and definitely poorly stocked. read more

This is a bad Safeway. Every trip I've taken here I have to sort through old and expired meats, produce, anything to find something edible. There's always a ton of flies at the entrances. A brand new Safeway that opened up just yesterday in the 95757 area (further in Elk Grove) just south of EG Blvd nearby Trader Joe's but in a separate plaza, at the corner of Bruceville and Whitelock Parkway. It is huge and very nicely decorated and well organized. The aisles area spacious and wide with all the shelves filled with merchandize of every type, all shelved nicely. The produce department looks great with fresh fruits of all kinds, and some sundries too. The floral department is pretty good sized with a big display of fresh cut floral arrangements that are ready for purchase if you don't need a custom made one. The various departments have all the usual products you expect at a Safeway, but they have room for more variety it seems, with more different brands than I've seen at other Safeway. The service was attentive even though they're quite busy right now as you can imagine w/the grand opening. Overall, this is a great addition to Elk Grove and it's nice to have another grocery store to shop at that within a 10-15 minute drive for me. read more

fresh produce is horrible and spoiled the next day. I purchased what was supposed to be fresh halibut and fixed it that night and got severe food poisoning from it. I have bought too many things that are not good. I do buy frozen stuff sometimes at the cash registers is horrible. They don't know what they're doing. The last time I went in there there was a man walking around with a stroller and no shirt on. Nobody was stopping him. It was just gross because he was all sweaty and dirty. The meat department is terrible. It's hard to get they're all back behind the counter, laughing and carrying on you have to get their attention. I bought Chinese food there once and it was so greasy you couldn't eat it. I've never been in a store That is this bad. I was there today and there were no carts up by the door at all. You had to go out into the parking lot to get one. This is the worst store I have ever been in. I also find that a lot of the prices of products is higher than most of the grocery stores around and sometimes equal to Nugget. It's a shame because I lived just two or three blocks from there, but I'll never go back again. read more

I'm shocked by the experience I had today!! The Chinese food has no flavor and the hot foods suck! My Son and I ordered food from the hot area and it was dry and was tasteless. If dry and hard flavor was what they were going for they succeeded! I'm also sorry to say the check out stands are a nightmare. It takes forever and the baggers don't know what they are doing! They were attempting to bag our hot food with our frozen food. This was totally unacceptable. The baggers looked lazy and seemed annoyed that we asked to separate our hot foot from our freezer food. Honestly, I'm not sure if I should come here anymore unless it's for something quick. The quick checkout stands are spacious but if I have more than 15 items I'd prefer to have someone else do it for me. Not impressed!!!! read more

Finally, after years of passing by an empty lot, the much anticipated Safeway is up and running. After hitting Safeways from Davis to Sac to the one 2 miles away on Laguna and Franklin, this by far is the most enticing, modern and organized unit! Not because it's brand new (Amazon Fresh is already a mess), you can tell management is all about customer service, merchandising and cleanliness. This reminds me of nearby Nugget, but offering lower prices. The sale item of the store is hands down the choice rib eye steaks in a 4-pk at $5.99lb! (Gotta enter your member number though)! I got the whole 7-bone cry-o-vac instead so I can cook it off on x-mas day. As for the service end of it, the attendant named "Hannah" provided exceptional service at the self-checkout line. I had a bit of trouble getting discounts off the receipt and I needed her assistance thrice; she was patient, accommodating and friendly. Definitely made my shopping experience a pleasant one! Just hope the standards uphold after the honeymoon period is over. Everywhere you looked it screamed Fall, inside and out. Can't wait to see how it's decorated for the Holidays! I visited this location during their grand opening and it is absolutely gorgeous. We've been waiting patiently for this location to open for months and saw all the construction. It was wild to see the store actually open and filled to the brim with food. I love that this location has a full floral section, bakery with excellent selection, and a deli with sandwiches and fried/rotisserie chicken too. The staff was incredibly nice and they had a ton of specials for their first opening day. I can tell that this will easily be a regular stop for us. Make sure to download the Safeway app to save on items; otherwise it can get a bit pricey. read more

My review is for the meat department. Most likely the worst and most unskilled butchers around. Packages have bloody meat, steaks had a thick fat slab that you're paying for, my salmon was full of bones despite it looking like it was deboned.
