I had to go through their voice response system three times just to speak to a person and then when I did get a person, she had a bit of a snarky attitude about checking on the inventory saying and I quote. I visited this location to redeem a winning lottery ticket and was disappointed by the customer service I received. The employee, Michelle, never greeted me, smiled, or acknowledged me. As I handed her my lottery ticket, she abruptly took it from my hand without so much as a "hello." The entire interaction felt cold and dismissive. She handed me my $10 winnings without a word or any sign of courtesy. A few moments later, my husband approached to ask for assistance with the coin machine, and her attitude remained the same. It wasn't until he finished his transaction and was leaving that she finally said, "Have a good day." I don't expect over-the-top friendliness, but I do expect basic courtesy (e.g. making eye contact, greeting customers, and treating people with respect). Those simple gestures go a long way in making customers feel welcome. I've been a customer for over a decade and employees used to offer good customer service about 5 years ago but it went downhill. I did self checkout. There's one touch screen machine to get lottery tickets. They also have a counter if you want to buy them from a person. Today we placed an order. A Door Dash driver stole our groceries. Normally every grocery store would just cancel the order and refund and force us to place another order and risk stuff being out of stock. Normally THIS Safeway is awful with customer service. But not today. They re-delivered our order which saved us a huge, gigantic headache. Then when they forgot an item they made it right and had someone deliver it as well. They went double above and beyond what every other grocery store has done. This is top tier customer service by my experience. I have a major problem with management here. I come to your store to get a specific item and it is RARELY in stock. It used to be 50/50, but these days its only in stock for about 10% of my visits. Its the half-gallon half-n-half, Lucerne. This is a store branded product, so you can't tell me that some third-party brand/company is stepping on your supply. This is YOU. For decades every major grocery store has had inventory control systems. They scan the item at checkout and they know when they're running low, so they know to re-order. Management at this store can't handle that. Its child's play, but no expensive inventory control system can keep these goobers from failing. Your website? There is no mechanism for raising the issue on the store website. You have your infuriating chatbot which offers NO HELP in getting this message to management. It just tells me to hunt down the manager when I'm in the store. I've raised the matter with staff, but I'm not going to spend time hunting down some management flunkie who doesn't want to be found. If I'm out shopping I'm going to have other places I need to be next. No time for a scavenger hunt, waiting for some unaccountable backoffice troll to make themselves available. This is a store-branded product. I want to buy it. You can't be relied upon to stock it. You have all the tools necessary to keep it in stock, but you can't. You have failed at retail. This location has a pokemon vending machine adjacent to the exit doors. Every time I have been in this store there has been groups of people loitering by the machine blocking the exits. Incredibly rude worker at the register...don't know her name but she was harassing my father and interacting with his daughter...a minor by the way, as well as the manager harassing a minor and an elderly person. Had two encounters with the same older Asian lady with pink lipstick. Both times she harassed my dad and wasted our time over buying a bottle of wine, lying about the federal law. He showed her his ID and she continued to mutter under her breath. The manager was watching a few get away and acted like she heard everything and sided with her employee. I order alot from Safeway for delivery. I'm older and disabled so this works out ok for me. A week ago Friday I had gone two days without food or sleep. I was waiting on my money to come in Friday. I live on a limited, tight budget. I got some money Friday around 1 pm so I ordered over $300 worth of groceries, etc I desperately needed these items. My phone indicated the dasher was nearby I was in the bathroom when II heard a knock on my door. When I opened the door there was nobody there and no groceries. I was able to call the driver. I wasn't mad I was BOILING MAD!! I told him to get back to my apt asap with my stuff. At first he seemed to not understand me. Then he told he he wasn't coming back and I could call Uber. They're even worse than Safeway. I caliec Safeway and the director/manager answered. She took the driver's side and told me to not disrespect her employee or she would block me. I called her a few choice names. She threatened to block me & call the police. This was a total nightmare and almost distroyed my weekend.! I ended up calling Sac PD I was so stressed out that I began to cry. Safeway refused to re-deliver the items and canceled the order. I had no choice but to order them again. This cost me another $300+ that I couldn't afford. This destroyed my dinner plans for Friday night. At first I thought the driver was being nice and didn't want my groceries to sit on the porch or maybe he THOUGHT he was supposed to take them back. I have never EVER had a driver do this. This Safeway market in Elk Grove is clean and comfortable. I enjoyed having my groceries shopping here. The Safeway in Elk Grove/Laguna Creek is around 30 years old. But they have kept up the store very well. It still looks pretty good in and out. I think they have done a couple of remodeling in the last 30 years. The store still looks up to date. I have no problem with the store layout. All items are in the place where I think they should be located. The meats and vegetables are fresh and reasonably priced. The employees here are helpful and courteous. I enjoyed shopping in this Safeway store. read more

This is my to go to Grocery Store besides Nugget/Trader Joe's. The prices at Safeway is descent and the employees are nice. I never really had a bad experience here. The reason why I took off 2 Stars is because the produce selection here is small. I rather go to the Safeway on Elk Grove Florin than this one. I came here to get berries like strawberries and blueberries but they didn't have either! I was really disappointed. In addition there was this deflated ballon that was displayed. It was blocking people way, I notice a lot of customers trying to hit the ballon so they can walk past the aisle. I'm surprise the store didn't get rid of the ballon. Recently went into the Safeway on Folsom Blvd, near the WALMART,,, wanted to get a sandwich,, but,, one person ahead of me also waiting. I asked the person why no one has acknowledged EITHER OF us,, she said she did not know. Deli worker continued to " sweep" ,,, never making eye contact. I then decided ide go look at the kiosk with Asian foods,, self serve, $8.99 per pound. Well it looks ok if you are hungry,, but I had to try very hard NOT TO GO OVER ONE POUND!! No SCALE!!! HOW TO KNOW??? Food swimming in LIQUID WEIGHS MORE,,, , was careful of this too. Took to the counter to pay,, cashier weighs and labels it , rudely stating " MAAM YOU WENT OVER THE ONE POUND!!!!!!" ,, because? The bill was almost $14 and there was barely a few bites in that container I'm telling you. I said no. That's wrong. I walked away. I think it is a scam,, and Safeways are known to scam young you do not watch what's rung up. No. This is just wrong.most of us, especially living on Social Security , are scrapping for our next meal, trying to stretch it. I recently visited this location on 1/5/23 at around 4:30-5:00pm and went to the deli. Working the deli was this young woman named Ashly . Ashly was extremely rude, didn't want to make our sandwiches . Took an extremely long time to make 3 sandwiches, making snarking comments to her coworkers about pricing over the phone and got even more upset when i asked her to ring up my food . She said " well I'm kinda busy " and then reluctantly made rang it up. Whole time doing it with an attitude , to the point I had to tell her she was being rude . And didn't even apologize . We went into the Elk Grove Safeway to return a carpet shampoo cleaner. While there we decided to check out the bakery for a treat and pick up a loaf of their house made sourdough large rounds. It looked like a bomb had gone off - there were only a couple of cakes in the whole case and none of the large rounds of sourdough. I asked someone stocking the prepacked bread if there was something wrong, she replied that Thursdays are very slow, and they didn't have many customers and that is why there were so few things in the department. Looking at the sourdough bread they did have it was all incredibly under-proofed. In the end I am glad we didn't get anything at Safeway as we remembered that EG has a new Amazon Fresh store, so we drove over there and spent $75 on groceries. read more

I do my grocery shopping at another store. I mainly shop at Safeway to buy lottery tickets (few and far between), make copies of keys, and any vaccines at the pharmacy. If I need something I cannot find at my regular grocery, I will try Safeway. Otherwise, I don't really care for Safeway, even though they are a huge store and have a bigger variety. Really really cramped parking, and super packed too for Friday early afternoon somehow. Pharmacy customer service was very good as I got seen for the booster shot very promptly. They offered a variety of goods particularly at the front like prepared soups, vegetables, and other goods. Also a good self checkout area too for minimalists and quick movers. Crazy here. We were in the deli ordering one sandwich. The girl making the sandwich, was so dead, lackluster. While we were waiting, 2 teen boys were there ordering from the hot food side. One wasn't hiding at all when he put a stolen drink in his back pack. They grabbed more food and just casually walked out. No one cared. I asked if I could pay for my sandwich there. I signed up for the special and downloaded the app ordered some wonderful looking ribeye steaks. Spent almost $200 before the bonus discount. They were delivered and they were the worst Purchase I have ever ever made. They didn't even come close to looking like the pictures they were just surrounded with fat and if I had to weigh the steak and the fat the fat won. Ended up throwing it all out it was so disgusting. Do not use their curb side pick up. I shop here often and like the store. But their curbside pickup does not work here. I waited over 20 minutes and had to call them to ask where my order was. The WiFi needs to be upped or something because the Safeway person could not find my order. I guess if I need something timely grocery wise I'll go in myself or get it from Amazon. Wish we had Safeway stores in Southern California. I love the food and produce areas here. Everything is fresh here in the meat areas too. Finely picked fruits and vegetables. He took his time to listen to what I was wanting and then not only packaged the oysters but also the ice to pack it in once I get to the car. Today was my first visit to the Safeway at this location. The location of the store is conveniently located, there's great parking, ample carts available. The layout of the store is similar to other's throughout the Sacramento region. Isles are too narrow, limited space for two carts to pass. Organic produce looked good, non organic not so good. Not enough checkers, checkout lines open/working for amount of people in line to buy their groceries. I normally shop at Nugget, Bel Air and Raleys, I probably will continue to do so. read more

Several years have gone by and this store is even worse than my last review. The produce area is a disgrace. Over priced alot of spoiled or wilted product. Choices are very limited as well and everything costs 2 to 5 times what you can get it for at WinCo or sprouts Only reason why I go back is there's a couple products only have but I'm about to get into the alternative brands. Lines continue to be horrendous they force you to use self checkout but half the stations are off line and I have yet to see one transaction a clerk didn't have to fix. They use our free labor and their prices are obscene. Was gonna make some quick hotdogs tonight but after I added everything up it worked out to more than $4 a hot dog. I u de stand things are more important expensive but Safeway is price gouging now. Raleys and Bel-Air were always more expensive but no more in the last ng run. Produce in raleys and Bel-Air is the excellent . The premade food is also a lot better as well as the cleanliness and staff Based on quality freshness overall value and length of time in line.... Safeway is the loser and the rip off they won't make it out of this recession intact. This nasty greedy anti customer service store is past it's prime for sure I recommend Raleys Bel-Air sprouts over Safeway and for real value go to WinCo and a Walmart Superstore. You expect less of an atmosphere from them but their quality is excellent and even the build and offbrand is great. read more
