Today, 5/25/24, during checkout, I presented the checker, Ahrari, with a coupon for one of my items. He tried to scan but it didn't take. He told me it went through and I asked him to show me. He pointed at the screen, like that was good enough, and put the coupon in his drawer. I told him it didn't take and to give me my coupon back. You should have seen this guy.....what a CHEATER......totally disgusting. I then went to customer service and a really nice girl named Fernanda processed my $3.00 coupon. ZERO stars for that creep, Ahrari, and a million stars for Fernanda. Inadequate staffing. Long lines. Don't look for assistance. No help is coming. The two stars are for some of the checkers who are pleasant folks. No stars for the management of this store. Yesterday (Sunday afternoon) I only had a few items; however, one was a bottle of wine so I had to use a checker. There were nine people in line for self check out stands (not including all check out stations were full). In the regular check out lines, there were only two checkers available. I chose a line and stood there for several minutes when a young man stepped in front of me and moved my cart back and closed the line with a chain. I said don't close the line right in front of me while I'm standing here. He replied that "his boss told him to close the line in front of me. The checker at this line, an unpleasant young woman chimed in, "I turned off my light". I moved to the only other line with a checker and joined the four people in line there. Right after I moved, they reopened the line they closed in my face with a new checker. There was no reason to send me away. A few days earlier while attempting to check out with a full cart of groceries at this store, there was only one checker with 5 people in line. I walked over to the Safeway employee in the self check area and said "Hi, there is only one line open with 5 people in line. The unpleasant older man didn't look up from what ever he was reading and said "sounds about right". I'm done with the frustration and wasted time shopping at this Clayton Safeway store. I'll try shopping at the Safeway in Concord on Clayton Rd. at Treat. It looks like the cleaned up the Lucky store in Concord a bit. I'll try there again also. read more

The don't update their store hours. In need of medicine from my local grocery store and grant it it's Christmas Eve but currently as I'm writing this it is 7:31 and it says on their store hours that they are open. Yet I'm here and the doors are opened but the workers are saying they are closed. If your gonna stay open through all of COVID and claim to be an essential bus Jess and then close early on Christmas eve, then you are an essential business and your employees jobs are not essential either. read more

I usually shop at the willow pass Safeway, but went here to bring my friend who lives nearby. I always use these cool grocery boxes to shop with. I fill them then put them on the cashier counter. The employees at willow pass love them, makes it easy for them to quickly scan and repack. The checker at this store, Ayesha, made me take them off and empty each one taking much longer to checkout. She was rude. I told her how willow pass told me how much easier it was. I just got a stare. Here I thought up by Clayton it would be a nice experience. Sadly it was rude. This Safeway just straight up sucks. The parking lot is always a mess- carts everywhere, people driving too fast, etc. Both the customers and the employees are rude here. Other customers don't know how to say excuse me in the aisles and would rather just passive aggressively push their cart past you. The employee who works at the self checkout in the evenings always makes it a big deal when I have products that won't scan and she always has something to say about them. She ruined my day when she was saying that the flowers I was trying to buy were ugly. To each their own and it was funny at first but she kept saying over and over "why do you want this? It's ugly". This Safeway also never has what I'm looking for in stock. I'd rather drive 15 minutes down the road to the nicer safeway where they always have what I need and the employees aren't berating me about my purchase. read more

Seriously I try to love this store and I gave them another shot. Today I wanted to order some Chinese food, the deli workers were all standing around and the Chinese guy was busy making sushi. They literally would not help me, only he could help me. So finally after standing there for a while they called him over. I asked for some help. No sense of urgency from employees at this store. Remember when 3s a crowd??? They took those signs down a long time ago. The store wasn't very clean either- saw a few pieces of fruit that had a bite out of them and then had been abandoned. We came for tulsi tea. They do have a nice selection of tea. My mom worked here for over 35 years, she was a cute, tiny, super friendly woman who customers adored. She passed away last year and I just moved to Clayton so coming here makes my heart warm and makes me happy to remember her here. She had regular customers that came through her line just to see her. I love coming grocery shopping here, the prices are great, but one woman that works here has literally made us not want to come back. The woman with braids who was working self check out tonight (she has helped us in regular check out once before) is so, SO rude. We literally avoid her at all costs. Mostly, this is a good, well-stocked store. This week this had some good specials in their flyer, so I went today before they could run out. However, today it looked like they missed a delivery or three or four. There was no fresh corn. There was only one package of the meat I was looking for and it wasn't marked. There are no regular grocery stores in Pittsburg so I am forced to leave town to get food in my kitchen. Safeway in Clayton on Clayton road is the closest. Every time I go there, even with coupons in hand, I get ripped off. Somebody needs to secret shop just to check there sale prices. They NEVER match the ad or their coupons. I've gotten to where I take the tag off the shelf for sale items to make sure I get them for the right price. Then they screw up on something else. Isn't there a government agency that's supposed to keep stores in check? Now I have to drive out to Oakley to shop. Thanks Safeway for always taking care of your customers. Wow... I had 15 items, so chose the express lane for checkout. No one was in line, so I put all my purchases on the belt. The cashier kept looking into my basket ever since I went to her lane. Making sure I only had 15 items? She kept ringing up my items, without ever saying anything, not even a greeting. I had my own bags, so I went over to the end and started bagging my own items. I had to uncomfortably stretch to reach them, and she would sometimes push one or two things just a bit closer. She was ringing up my last item, so halfway done with bagging, I went to pay at the card reader. Still won't say anything, and she didn't bag while I was paying.... Once the receipt came out, she hands it to me, and just stands there. So, I go to the end and finish bagging my items. I look at her as I leave, and she's laughing, talking to a coworker... I live down the street so I'm here quite often to shop for groceries. 50% of the time there's teens standing outside soliciting everyone that walks by for money for their basketball teams. When you ask each kid what school or organization it's for they all says different names so they're clearly running a scam. Update 11/16/19 this store still can't hire baggers to save it's life. Nine times out of 10 I have to bag my own groceries, why am I paying for bags if I have to bag my own stuff? Also since when did three stop being a crowd? Eight people in two lines before they called for back up. Get it together Safeway this is getting ridiculous Update 8/20/18: still huge issues with zero baggers. The last 2 Sunday's I've shopped I counted 4 yes FOUR including myself shoppers bagging their own groceries. This isn't foodmaxx or winco where you bag your own groceries. Safeway is already expensive as it is. I know I don't have to bag my own groceries but when there's already a line of people it's the polite thing to do. Bottom line it shouldn't even be an issue! Store is clean and well stocked however. There are never ever ever baggers. The poor checkout people have to ring AND bag groceries. I haven't had a bagger actually bag or groceries in 2 months now. Usually I go and help out the cashier (cuz I'm nice) and bag the Groceries. It's completely unacceptable to not have enough baggers especially during peak hours. read more

It's really hard to rate Safeway because the quality of the overall experience changes based on what time of the day you go. If you go early in the day, it's great. Good service, great selection. However if you go at night, it can be terrible. Often there is only one checker and few if anyone on the floor to assist you. I gave watched people shoplift everything from a vase of beer to a cart full of food and the poor clerk can only stand there and watch. This has been my home Safeway for the last 2 years, but I've periodically have shopped at this particular store for the last 5 years. I shop at this location on average twice a week (maybe) because I can never seem to get everything I need at once. I'm always forgetting something. EACH and EVERY TIME I go into this store I say never again, but I'll be darned if I let racial profiling or micro aggressions stop me from doing everyday NORMAL things. When I first started shopping at the store I'd notice when I check out there'd be an additional look at my cart, if I went in the morning, someone on the same isle as me that was empty prior or an associate pretending not to look down the isle I'm on. I don't wear big jackets in the summer, or carry big purses. When I check out I normally check out at the register, but they're also times I'll checkout at self help. I'm going to share my experience with self checkout. I've even tested this theory and have receipts that will coincide with cameras that can prove what I'm saying. As long as other white people are checking out, NO ONE will be visibly present looking at the screens they are ALWAYS on the side talking to one another, and there are certainly NO associates are making rounds. I've stood back and watched this SEVERAL times. As soon as I go to self checkout, being a BLACK woman, an associate rushes over and then begins to either circle me pretending to all of a sudden work, or or heavily stare at the screen while staring at me and the cart. This NEVER fails! I've worked in retail about 20 years and was formally an Area Loss Prevention manager for a reputable retailer. I've trained store on racial profiling, I've trained on behaviors, and I've trained on what you should NEVER look for. A PERSON SKIN COLOR DOES NOT MAKE THEM A SHOPLIFTER! Black people ARE NOT the highest group of shoplifters! It's white people! So while you're worried about me, a person who's NEVER stolen a darn thing in her life, that person that reminds you of your aunt Karen, Uncle Kevin, or Mee Maw is robbing the store blind, but you'd never know because this store only looks at the color of your skin, not behaviors. I can describe each and ever associate who's offered this CRAPPY service, but I will get their name and add on this review. The crazy part is I have been in that store several times and have seen people fill up a basket and start loading their personal bags and casually walk out without paying, or come in select a case of soda and just leave, but NO ONE seems to care or notice. It's only shoplifting when black people do it, huh? I've encouraged my friends/family to also write reviews. This is absolutely ridiculous! read more

ABSOLUTELY BAD REVIEW - Used to like Safeway, but prices are sky high now. But... DELIVERY IS HORRIBLE. I placed a $500 order to be delivered today. By end of order, needed to push until next day. Late the next day I get a text & e-mail saying cannot be delivered today, please reschedule. I rescheduled for the next day. 9 pm I got a text saying "Running Late".... I called after 10pm, representative from India who barely understood who said can't deliver today, no reason listed. Oh, she also said that for my inconvenience, they would be refunding my $500. DUH!!!! Next day, got an e-mail saying "High volume of orders, and low stock, sorry, order canceled....." 3 days until I finally drove out myself to another store. I normally don't write reviews but I thought I would do it this time. I ordered a 1/2 sheet cake in this Safeway store and normally I pay it ahead. Unfortunately when I came for pick up, i walked out with the cake thinking it was already paid. When I got home I realized i haven't paid it. I went ballistic calling the store back since I live about 12 miles away from the store. At first I had a hard time trying to connect. Finally someone picked up after 30 minutes calling the store. So I have spoken to the front end manager who was there yesterday (10/22/22) explaining what happened, I tried to pay it over the phone. I was put on hold, then she said that I didn't have to pay it for being honest. I told her I didn't deserve it, but she insisted. OMG, I was so blown away! I come to this Safeway 2-3 times a week. Wow! I love this Store and the people that work there, not because I was given a free cake, it was because every time I go there, employees are always so nice, helpful and welcoming to their customers. To Safeway, thank you from the bottom of my heart and I apologize for walking out with the cake accidentally not paid. I highly recommend coming to this store. read more
