Unfortunately, they don't all take the same care and attention that the Los Gatos Cougars do but hey, you're not looking at the mantle piece when your stoking the fire... or in my case as a kept man... looking at the fire while searching for a box of Crunchy Nut Clusters. Well stocked store. Parking sucks but the lines are much better inside than the Safeway on Hamilton. You'd think all the local Safeway stores would stock the same shit but they don't. For some reason, this one doesn't have any indian pastes - so I'm dropping a star for that. Good choice of wines though. I'm dropping another star for the clientele who hang around outside. This is the worst Safeway in the Bay Area. I live nearby, so I am in the store often. In the evenings, (every evening) there is usually 1 check stand open and it take lines to get halfway across the store in order for them to open another. The lines become so long and out of control sometimes I am forced to drop my food and leave. If it's such a frequent continuing problem you would think that management would adjust to their costumers needs. I think the store is poorly and inefficiently run and deserves the 1 star over and over again. read more

Sadly this is the closest Safeway to my apartment. I've worked retail for half my life. Someone needs to fire all of the leadership in that store because you can tell that the workers are miserable. Lines are ridiculously long and there's no "courtesy clerk" available. Just disgruntled workers. Bag boy was talking shit about previous customers in front of the everyone. I am going to echo my experiences with this Safeway. It is near my ex's place and I have gone there a few times. Overall, the Safeway itself is good, but the location is not up to par. It is right next door to a bar that attracts all kinds of creatures. There is a head shop kitty corner from it in the shopping center. All kinds of shady characters hanging around inside and outside the store. The welfare and dirty types. I write this in hopes Safeway, with all their money, would spend some of it to make entering and exiting the store an easy instead of difficult experience. read more

OMG, OMG, OMG! This Safeway is the best!!!! No, in all seriousness, this Safeway is total crap. And what's even worse is that it's my local Safeway so I have to deal with it on a daily basis. There are always not enough people at the registers. The way the products are located in the different aisles doesn't make any sense at all so you can get a workout until you find what you're looking for (e.g. pizza dough). I only gave it 2 stars and not 1 because one of the new guys was really nice and helped me with my pizza dough hunt. Tip: There is an extreeeeemely slow old guy at one of the registers - if you see him, you're better off using the self-checkout or another register.. if you are lucky, there might be more than one open :-O Tip No. 2: Don't get a starbucks from there. It's absolutely horrible! Go to Drinx instead - that's the small drive-thru coffee place in the middle of the parking lot. read more

This is the crappiest Safeway I've ever been to in my life. And I've seen some pretty crappy Safeways in Arizona. I mean, i suspected it when I first moved here six months ago, but time and time again it proves to disappoint, confound, and anger me. I've even overheard other patrons say "this is the sh***** Safeway; there's never any carts here." Safeway should stop wasting my time and theirs and close this hellhole down. Like Scott L., I'm really not understanding all of the negative reviews here. My only question is, WHERE in the world have you people been shopping normally? Perhaps I see this place as a mini-heaven due to my experiences with the absolutely filthy, ghetto Safeway over on Payne and Winchester. I understand the long line complaints - yup, the line is out the door when it's 10pm and you're trying to buy some milk and juice. But the produce section seemed huge, and most of the products fresh (with a very decent selection). Bakery section is also huge with ample selection- and things are WAY fresher than the Payne Safeway and they don't run out of bread. AND, the meat selections were actually packaged that very day and they don't seem to ever be out of whatever cuts we usually buy. The checkers have also been WAY friendlier than the other location. I don't get all the negative reviews. The parking lot is pretty big and while the front is usually kind of full there is always space on the side of the building. The lay out is pretty much like every other Safeway I've been in. Never had bad luck with the deli or the Chinese food, food has always been fresh and tasted good. I've never had issues with the customer service either, although it does get packed sometimes since it's right in the middle of a heavy residential area. If you want to see a janky Safeway head over to the one on Winchester/Payne. Hella old, completely dark parking lot, and a sketchy neighborhood. read more

I absolutely hate this place. Unfortunately it is cheaper then Luckys, by a lot. Extremely LONG line, seriously one night we waited in a line from register 1 all the way to the starbucks. They only had 1 cashier working. It was ridiculous! It is small. The security guard is pyscho. The line for the deli/sandwiches/chinese food is LONG, all the time. The employees are rude and slow. Oh and there is NEVER parking. And everything is a mess. This place sucks. read more

Campbell isn't a very big town considering how big the rest of the Bay Area is and there are approximately 4 supermarkets within it's city limits I believe, all spread out nicely so that you can easily reach one no matter where you live in the area. Of those 4 supermarkets 2 are Safeway stores and this one is the lesser of the two. This one just seems to not be as good as the one that opened on Hamilton a few years ago and the shelves sometimes are pretty bare. I went here today looking for Safeway brand Peppermint ice cream ( only available during the Christmas season ) and the lady at the checkout told me they were out, and that had been out of it for WEEKS! I mean, SAY WHAT?! WEEKS???!!! Not cool, Safeway, not cool. Where is a guy supposed to get his Peppermint fix if he doesn't want to go far and expects it to be fulfilled anytime he wants?! This has never happened to me before but I do admit it is kinda late for Peppermint ice cream and I guess they won't get more in. I went to the Safeway on Hamilton and they had some, thank God. At least they restored some of my faith in Safeway stores! ;) read more

If I can give this Safeway 0 stars I would. First, I can guarantee that when I shop there are no carts available. I usually have to search the parking lot for one. I when I do find one they are always filthy. The checkers usually have to muster up a hello. Today I commented to the bag girl that she had beautiful hair she can barely muster up a thank you. And the checker just looked at me. Last but not least, they overstuff my bags. I can hardly pick them up and have to redistribute at my car so that I can get them in my apartment. Do they bother to ask if I need help out with those heavy bags? Of course not! What sad customer service they have there! read more

It seems that Safeway has been reading these reviews. I went to the deli (you know the place that is getting the complaints) and I was pleasantly surprised to see Denise. She was fast and very helpful with my order. I looked at the deli offerings (salads and what not) and I was happy to see a seafood salad (imitation lobster and real shrimp) I asked for a taste and was pleasantly surprised. I got 2 1/2 pound tubs, my son ate the second tub and loved it too. I ordered some thighs and there was some special going on that Denise told me about and I even saved money. I went back today and yes there was a little wait but I heard that they are hiring. Even with being short handed I got that seafood salad with very little delay. I don't think the deli job is an easy one. read more

I've never liked this Safeway that much to begin with because there tends to be sketchy/homeless looking people hanging outside and it's in the same plaza as a smoke shop and a liquor store, go figure. Also, the first time I bought chicken tenders from the deli section, there was a short strand of hair at the bottom of the bag so I already thought it was kind of dirty and gross. I only go here because it's conveniently located near my work. I stopped here after work to get some groceries and was really hungry so I decided to stop by the deli section, giving it another shot. I ordered the 'Club' in a tortilla wrap and that's when the worker said, "I'm actually new here so would you by any chance know how to make it?" That's when my jaw dropped and I almost died. SO AWKWARD. I had no idea what to say so I responded saying I could order the Turkey Pesto Avocado sandwich instead in a focaccia bread. (It can't be that hard to make a sandwich right???) He then proceeded to tell me that they were out of not only focaccia, but pesto as well even though it was only 5 PM on a weekday. I really didn't understand what was going on. It seemed like it was a sign that I should jut not eat and should really start going on that Vegas diet I've been thinking about. He even seemed to struggle with the oven and wasn't sure how long to keep the sandwich in there for. On top of that, he wasn't able to work the register so he had to call someone else over to help me. It was the weirdest ass experience of my life. It probably took about 25 minutes or more to deal with the whole situation. Because of that, a line started accumulating and people were getting irritated, as I was. It was a nightmarish disaster. Of course I can't really blame the guy. I was really annoyed at the store management though. The fact they would leave a brand new worker, that literally did not know shit, alone completely shocks me. I felt bad for him as I've worked in retail before and I know what it feels like to be new and oblivious and the nerves that come along with it. Wouldn't it make more sense to perhaps have him shadow someone or have someone stay with him at all times until he's fully trained? This Safeway is my least favorite. It feels grimy, dingy and ghetto. The clientle are sometimes less than savory, which I guess isn't really the Safeway's fault - but it's enough to keep me away. They also tend to be bad about restocking - for example I needed to buy some sour cream only to discover there's virtually none on the shelf - but there are boxes blocking the aisle just waiting for it to be replenished. Only reviewing the deli and this review goes for most Safeway Deli's I have been to. They are terrible!!!!! I don't know where they hire the people who work in their Deli but boy are they slow and non-attentive. This place I frequent often and usually one person doesn't know what the other is doing. Slow as molasses making sandwiches and never enough people working to help out. Too many homeless hanging around outside. Be careful in the produce aisle. They don't check the dates on their meat substitute products for months on end. I've been known to see an entire line of products sitting on the shelf despite being three months out of date, and this has happened quite often. I've reported it to management and nothing is ever done about it. Seldom do they enough cashiers, even at the busiest times of the day I never see more than 2 registers open. What's the point in having so many of them if they're never used? They're getting one extra star because they checkout staff are quite friendly. Management needs to up its game. read more

This Safeway is nice. It's clean and well organized. Came in here for some flowers and the florist was extremely helpful. The flowers were in really good condition and I'm super happy with them! Can't beat $10 for a dozen roses!! It's smaller than other Safeways, but it's fully stocked and they have great customer service. read more

I really wish that when I ordered my iced coffee at the Starbucks kiosk, without any additives, (literally black coffee and ice) the cashier would have informed me that 6 coffee travel cases had been ordered ahead of me. Had she done that, I'd have ordered something different. Instead, I waited 20 minutes for my coffee. I ordered at 7:56 am, and had my beverage at 8:16 am. I won't be patronizing the kiosk ever again. read more

This store needs to improve store logistics and layout. Why is it, that whenever I walk into this particular Safeway, there are no shopping baskets up in the front entrances? This forces me to waste my time walking down each checkout stand searching for a basket. When I finally find one, its on the opposite end of the store! And when I need a shopping cart, they are piled up in the parking lot. This has been going on for years. When checking out, during busy hours, there is always a long line at the self serve checkout. The line gets deep and snakes into the frozen dessert section, It really sucks having to navigate around that area during busy hours. It also sucks when 2 of the machines are broken and it takes 10 minutes sitting in line to checkout! read more

Good store. Pharmacy is fast and courteous. Good place for one stop shop and also right next to a lot of little shops so it's very convenient location. They have a new Starbucks inside which looks beautiful and they are super chill and friendly. read more

I agree with the other reviewers that while this isn't the best Safeway, it has lots of charm, character and potential. I come to this Safeway more than I go to my own Mid-town Safeway because it's close by the dance studio I go to nearly every night. Whenever I want something healthy snack to eat before or after dance class, they always have plenty of salads, yogurts, reduced sodium crackers. After a long night of dance classes, I can always count on this Safeway to have something quick and easy I can bring home for dinner, like a pizza, ready made chicken, meatloaf and microwaveable Country Crock potatoes/side dishes. While the wine prices are ridiculous, this Safeway still has lots of affordable party options, 2 for $4-$6 chips, 10 for $10 items, etc. Sometimes the line can get really long, really quick, but it's better than waiting in line at the downtown San Jose Safeway. I don't know what it is about this Campbell Safeway but for me just feels like a safe way to buy late night groceries. Pun totally intended. read more

1st off, I think a lot of people have this Safeway (Winchester and Budd) confused with the one one Winchester and Payne. Winchester and Budd - newer style store, updates, self check-outs, farmers market style produce and huge. Winchester and Payne - Small and out of date. However, this store along with the Safeway store at Westgate mall are both closing and opening up as a super Safeway where the old Mervyns was on Hamilton. read more

This Safeway needs A LOT of work! This is the closest grocery store to my house, so unfortunately I find myself shopping here more than I care to. Why unfortunately you ask? To start the prices are so high it makes shopping here almost impossible. I've shopped at high end markets (Whole Foods) and can some how justify their pricing. Safeway is nothing special just like a Ralph's or Lucky's. Their produce section lacks on quality items and doesn't carry simple things by the bunch (dill, Cilantro...any herbs really) just some small packaged ones for $4.00?!? The seafood section I have to say is fresh and all the people who work in that section have excellent customer service. So, hence the 2 stars. The rest of the store (wha...wha..wha) really terrible customer service. Attitude and so RUDE!! Coming down an aisle and I understand that you are doing your job by stocking the shelves but must you take the whole aisle? And then when I politely say "excuse me" I get the look of death? Wtf? Poorly organized store, huge cookie display blocking the milk and dairy refrigerators. Those type of unnecessary huge displays crowded the whole back aisle, so you get to play bumper carts with them or another shopper. One day I was commenting how bad the produce was to my child and a pregnant lady was giving us, "ya right'" looks. Then my daughter asked me why the orange had hair. No matter what time of the day you go, there is always a crazy line. It is especially worse on holidays or when some sporting event is on tv. I am not very patient so I tend to go to the liquor store instead to get my alcohol when I am in a hurry. But, one time they did had this awesome deal on 20pack Miller Lites for $10 dollars. It's fine, it's a Safeway that isn't super deluxe. But there is a pretty big produce selection, deli is decent size, bakery is fine. A pretty good selection without it being one of those mega gigantic stores. I will say the crowd can be pretty ghetto, the employees a bit strange but the Starbucks in there is pretty good with sweet people who get to know you. I haven't had anyone be mean to me personally. I think it is pretty clean and I am a neat freak, but could depend on personal experience. The organic section is pretty good - this might be a new development since the first review. read more

So I had just pulled into the nearby Dairy Queen, ready to faint from hunger, and was told that due to renovations, they were only serving ice cream. Really? So I decided to pull in to the nearby shopping center since I needed food before my dance class, and there was my shining red beacon in the night: Safeway. I decided on a salami sandwich and water, purchased my stuff, and tucked in at the counter facing the window area. My food hit the spot (I was staaarrving), and I think I was only out about $5.35 or so. Not too shabby, considering. Thanks for the food, Safeway.
