I've never had any issues with the pharmacy until today. I called to ask about my medications, and the pharmacist -- Robbie or Ronnie -- was very rude. He kept talking over me and wouldn't let me say anything or ask any questions. I even laughed a little and politely asked to speak with someone else, and he told me no. When I asked again, he repeated no. He continued talking nonstop, and it felt like he wouldn't let me get a word in, so I finally said "have a nice day" and hung up. If I had known this Safeway was on strike, I never would have crossed a picket line. But there was zero notice when I placed my online order -- nothing on the website, no email, no update at pickup. Just a full strike happening at the 144th & Lowell location with no transparency whatsoever. I fully support the workers. After looking into it, I learned Safeway employees are making around $18 an hour while Albertsons made nearly $1 billion in profit last year and spent $6.9 billion on stock buybacks and dividends. Meanwhile, grocery prices for all of us are going through the roof. Safeway's silence on this is unacceptable. We just stopped in to use the restrooms while on the road. The women's bathroom is atrocious. Seriously needs an actual cleaning and I'd highly recommend a regrouting of the floor tiles. It's disgusting. I've seen porta-pottys cleaner than this. read more

I have been going here for years and the staff is increasingly rude and disrespectful. I just got accused of stealing alcohol because I had a conversation near it. She handled it so inappropriately, and to be accused of something that serious should take more foresight, maturity, and probable cause. I am continuously dissatisfied with my experiences here, and if not for the convenience of the location, I would not be found shopping here. 2.5 stars? Really? With no disrespect to the the folks who left poor ratings, they must have had that one rare bad experience. I go to this Safeway probably once a week at least and haven't had a single poor experience. Their produce is fresh (I can always count on their avocados), the store is well laid out, and everything is easy to find. I also got their bagels quite often as they're really tasty, and cheap. I usually use the self checkout but I still find the staff to always be friendly. If you do use self checkout, they're always right there to help you out if something happens. I can't stand using self checkout at a grocery store and having the clerk wandering off when something goes wrong! Bottom line, this is a nice, clean Safeway. I ordered a cake from their bakery with a graduation theme several days ahead and received a cake with nothing but the lettering, no decor. It was the saddest, most half-assed caked I'd ever seen. I had to go make a special trip to Michaels for cake decorating supplies at the last minute so i could try to fix it up so my kid didn't have a cake that looks like it was made for a boy who's family doesn't love him. Hallelujah, they finally have self check-out! My time shopping at this Safeway has just increased exponentially. Pro tip - you cant scan produce or the machine tells you off. This store does not do the volume that the nearby King Soopers does which is fine by me - aisles aren't crammed and prices are comparable. Hell, my Silk Almond Milk is cheaper here than it is at Target. One of the cashiers is very personable and always handles your transaction with a smile. The produce is always fresh and though they may not have the inventory of a larger store, what more do you need. There is a Starbucks and a Redbox inside, but no fancy delivery or shopping service. It never occurred to me to write a review of my local go-to grocery store and then I thought.... Wait. I spend the most amount of money, secondary to our mortgage to feed us and to feed my hobby of cooking - isn't this quite possibly the most important store or shop for me to review? Yes, I say. I am all about the customer experience and how we "feel" in a place that we spend our money in. It's a lot of money too. I will say our community likes their organics, a few vegans and more GF. We all like our stuff. Entertain In our homes and feed our families. And to me this store on 144 and Lowell is the best for a few reasons. 1. I can name at least four staff members at this store that I know well as a customer. Nope. Six. Just thought of 2 more. Make that 8. 2. A young man from the nearby Safeway that closed last year is now at this store. I adore him and we have always listened to one and other. R! 3. I have baked a special pumpkin pie for a hearing impaired staff member three years in a row and we deliver on Thanksgiving. He makes my heart sing and we don't really know how to communicate. But we do. He loves my children and is a good man. d!! 4. I gave surprise Valentines flowers to a bagged who showed me all her favorite flower arrangements set out for the holiday. She did not know that I was asking so that I could pick out her favorite. I left before she could see me and out of the corner of my eye, I saw her face light up when she was handed her arrangement. Sighs. j!! 5. A man who works in produce is a good man. Hardworking and a least there when it's busy and on holidays. He had a house deal fall through and I always wish there was something I could have done to help him. He went from beaming about this house to sad and disappointed after it fell through. He samples me apples and oranges if I want and I stop and wait to say hi every time I see him. J!! 6. Two lovely ladies in the pharmacy became family when both my husband and I broke a leg and shoulder within a month three years ago. Pained and suffering it was horrid. All we could do was manage the pain and heal. We had to visit many times and C and S were always smiling and making us feel better. I mean, literally FEEL better because they knew about both accidents. C and s! So about shopping:: I cook some wild things and look to the Globe as well as cooking trends for inspiration. My neighborhood Safeway store delivers for me and I am always happy when I leave. (And yes i know there is a King Soooers mega store down the road... I truly cannot understand why the deli has such a hard time helping customers. I literally avoid it unless I have to get something. They pretend they don't see you most of the time. It was super nice finding this very new store recently. I had difficulty getting the phone ap to work, and mentioned it to one of the staff. He helped me get everything situated so that I received all the discounts. I also have returned because the store is super clean, well merchandised and the extras in terms of not-always-stocked products was nice. Love your new store, Safeway! read more

This location used to be fine but it has gone downhill. The cashiers have a poor attitude where they complain frequently in front of customers. The store is consistently low on inventory if not out of high volume items. In addition, it is filthy. They need a capital investment to improve the look. just now My 86 years old grandmother came home crying, because she asked for soup, since there is no soup, and asked for roasted chicken and there is non. First she has to wait for 15 minutes because the deli stuff didn't show up. When she came she didn't apologize for the wait time and told my grandmother that "if you can't find it that mean we don't have it". This is not the first experience we had, last time I shop with my girlfriend there, I was about 10 feet away from her, she purchased fried chicken and kept shopping, right after she left woman name Pam and the other one I couldn't see her name tag (long blonde hair) talked shit about my girlfriend. I talked to them they claimed their self as deli manager. If they are really deli manager and their service was that bad i think they should just get fire. I will never shop at Safeway again and I will make sure I spread the bad news. Go to King Sooper way better service and you pay same price. I don't mind if I have to drive 0.5 miles extra. This particular store is clean and has its own gas station. I haven't met a perfect grocery store that has the best prices and selection all of the time. I go to Safeway for their sale items. Their Friday through Sunday club card sales have amazing prices. A nice feature that they have is if you go to their website and sign up for a club card account, you can download coupons to your club card that automatically redeem at the register instead of clipping the paper coupons from their weekly ad. Safeway also has some tasty made-to-order sandwiches in their deli, but the quality of the sandwich can vary depending on who makes it. Since the deli staff has the duties of running a grocery store deli, their sandwich making consistency isn't as good as that of a standalone sandwich restaurant. If you shop for organic produce, you may want to go elsewhere. At this particular location, the organic produce is relegated to one small island so their selection is very limited. read more

I used to go here, used to. This is probably the worst of the worst. Let me start with produce. The produce here is gawd awful! At times I would be walking throughout the produce isle completely amazed that they would even put some of it out; tomatoes already shriveling, lemons with soft brown spots, lettuce browning and one time, no joke, potatoes that were sprouting, yuk! The entirety of the store is OVER PRICED. You can save quite a bit of money by driving one block over to the King Soopers. The staff here really could care less that you are there, so don't expect much! Store has a funny layout and can be pretty dirty, hate this place!! The ladies at the gas station are incredibly rude. After gassing up it said go inside for the receipt (company card so necessary). The ladies inside ignored me while they finished their conversation, the lady at the register finally acknowledged me and said her computers are down. I told her all I needed was the receipt. She fiddled at the register while she continued her conversation then again after finishing said she couldn't do anything. It's the employees's job to maintain the companies pumps, which should include routinely refilling the receipt machine. Called the store and asked for a manager got stuck on hold and sent back to the main line three times before I finally gave up. Service at this Safeway is terrible. The gas station has three octane options and the prices are consistent with oil prices. The windshield washer sqweegie is nasty and seems to put more dead bugs on the windshield than it removes. Gas comes out fast though and thats all that really counts. read more

This has always been my go to neighborhood store for the last several years and I have always had a good experience. However, in the last maybe 6 months, quality control has been horrible. Every time I have been recently (as early as this morning) I have gotten expired food. Today a pack of cookies had been open and ate extremely stale. I've gotten some really old cheeses there that were molding and rotted and don't get me started with their archaic salads. The food is too expensive to have to play roulette with quality. I have never been to a place where there are so many rude people. One of the checkers never says hello, thank you or anything in between. She just looks around all the time to see what everyone else is doing. I have heard other complaints about her from others. My daughter and I used the self check out because we had an order that needed to be separated and bagged a certain way and the checker that was working rolled her eyes at us and pointed and just acted like an immature child. I used to shop there all the time and do it fewer and further between as every time someone is rude but now I will never go back into this store. In all honesty I didn't know that there was even a safeway here. I want to start by saying that the store was clean. HOWEVER. Their "signature cafe" didn't even have anything and the store was setup a little strangely IMHO but the absolute worst thing that I experienced here was the rudest girl I ever had the misfortune of speaking to. as I approached the checkout I thought of how nice it would be to have some nice cool water to drink also I had a nail appointment and I always get dust in my lungs (which is why I was up there in the first place) so I figured I'd get some Safeway water. I opened the cooler by check stand six and the waters were HOT not warm, not just not cold, but HOT and so was the cooler. I walked to the next stand and there was a water so I grabbed it and luckily it was cold but then I got to the check out. The girl working six...I placed my few items on the belt and I mentioned to her that the waters in the cooler were hot. She sighed and said I know - everyone tells me that. It's broken we've called them you'll have to walk down further. It's because this stand is the one that is always open so it breaks from all kinds of people who just HAVE to get a drink" I was floored she was MAD! She was mad I told her...for goodness sake put a sign up that says it's broken?! She checked me out quickly and then glared at me as she asked if there was anything else...I honestly have NEVER seen someone like that when someone is trying to help. RUDE to the max...figure it out chick - or at least let her go or make her do something besides dealing with people. read more

I love going to a place where they recognize me. I don't go everyday. I don't even go every week. I go when I need to and it sure is nice to see a smiling face. I probably visit the pharmacy twice a year and while the pharmacy staff does not 'recognize' me (I consider that a very good thing!) they are always so helpful! Dave, the pharmacist, is amazing. My husband had been advised to get a brace for his wrist and was actually given an Rx for it. We took it to the counter and Dave mentioned that the braces did not require an Rx. What's amazing is that he walked around the counter, left the pharmacy and actually showed us where to look for them. He pointed out the style that we needed. He also was honest enough to tell us that Safeway only carries two styles and if we did not find what we wanted, he could suggest another store. He was great! Torrey at checkout/produce is also always very friendly and helpful. The sandwich guys could use some work and there is a female bagger with an Aussie(?) accent that complains a lot but I suppose any company that employs more than 10 people has a few bad apples. I had to get a money order last month for rent and the person helping me didn't know how to process it and then thought they figured it out and had a problem. Needless to say they offered to put the money back on my card, but I had to pay rent and told them I would wait. I waited almost 2 hours until they got it figured out. I've been a Safeway shopper since I moved to Colorado in 1998, but I moved closer to this one than the one I used to shop at (120th and Main) and that store has since closed. I like the store itself, it's nice, clean, comfortable, but it's got three major issues. First, like a lot of stores these days they have a lot of check out lines, but usually only one or two are open. One of the checkers, I'll do anything to avoid her line, because she acts like she'd rather be anywhere but here. Most people try to use the self check out. I know it's a cart and horse issue: if there were more shoppers they could hire more people to work more lanes, but no one shops here because there aren't enough checkers with open lanes. Second, they post a cash price and a credit price for gas, where other grocery stores offering gas don't do this, plus I haven't had a rewards card give me a gas discount in a while, though it works when I swipe it at the store for prices. Their gas is already about 5-10 cents higher than everywhere else. Finally, today is the last straw, I went in to get two apples and a head of iceberg lettuce and they have no iceberg lettuce. How can a grocery chain in a major metro area not have iceberg lettuce? I give up, read more
