We were visiting from Maine when our tire pressure sensor showed our two front tires were low. Friends of ours whom we were visiting recommended Safe Way to see what the problem was and get us back to Maine. The Safe Way staff, although busy, took our car right in and fixed the problem. They explain all repairs completely and gain your approval before doing any work. There are no surprises once the work is done. I wasn't going to post a bad review because I had been satisfied with Safeway in the past, but due to my ladt experience, I will never go back. I had to have my car towed to Safeway one night a few months ago. The engine worked fine but stick shift would not get out of park. It was there overnight. I called the next day and they said they'd have to order a part and it would probably be in the next day or the one after that. They said it would only take a few hours once they got the part. I called after 3 days, then four days, then I waited a couple of days more before calling. They said the Ford rep should be in that afternoon. I called around 2. He didn't arrive. I waited 11 days for the part to come in. I called the Ford dealership in Seekonk and asjed how kong should that part for my particular car take to come in. They said the next day; 2 at the very longest. When I finally called on the 11th day, they said it would only take a couple of hours and they would call me when it was ready. I waited almost all day. They close at 5 pm. I called at 4:45. It wasn't ready they said. I drove with my sister to Safeway and got there just before 5. They said it was ready and parked on the side of the building,but they obviously had no intention of calling me. When I paid my bill, the guy said that the area around the stick shift was covered and caked in crud. Now this is when I decided thst I would never go back to this establishment. Because I have an extremely clean and well maintained 2008 Ford Explorer. Many people have comnented on how it looks almost brand new. I wash and wax the exterior faithfully. I shampoo the carpets myself and they look brand new. I DO NOT LEAVE AN OUNCE OF TRASH IN IT...EVER! I DON'T EAT IN IT. AND EVEN MY GRANDCHILDREN KNOW THAT GRANDMA KEEPS HER CAR CLEAN and they throw out any trash. So when they told me there was "Caked on crud" in the front console, I knew they were lying to me. I think they lied to me repeatedly about when the part would arrive and I KNEW they were lying to me about the filth in the stick shift area. That is the worst thing anyone can do in business and definitely don't ever lie to a woman. I do not recommend this business and will never return. read more

There is no truth to the claim that this business discriminates against women or is unfriendly. The business is partially woman owned. Safeway is a Bristol mainstay because the owners are honest and reliable. They are the only auto shop my husband and I trust and we have been coming here for some years. If you can't get through or get hung up on remember that phone systems aren't perfect. Try again, it is worth it! The owners give back to their community and their ethics are beyond reproach. Any long-standing customer will tell you this. If you ask questions, they are answered and you can learn more about your car, car maintenance and get very helpful advice. Having had bad experiences with unscrupulous businesses - Safeway is a guiding light in a sea of gray mediocrity. They are the best! read more

Waited two weeks for my inspection, drove up with no engine light on and after 5 minutes of the mechanic with my. car, I suddenly have an engine light I was told so the inspection can't be done. I have a 2018 Volvo XC90 that tells you when something is wrong with the car. Safe Way didn't want to be bothered with my car that day. The light by the way was a camera light which was blocked by the mechanic. The mechanic who I assume runs the place told me that he 'doesn't ever want to work with Volvos". Then maybe you should post this on your site or inform people when they book for service that this is the case. BTW, my car passed inspection in less than an hour elsewhere. Nothing was wrong with the car. The problem is with Safe Way Auto. read more

I've gone to them for years but will never go again. I am disabled and have weight problems because of it. I live on fixed income. The car they serviced for me is old and beat up because that is what I can afford. There was a note at bottom of bill saying .."time to get a new shit box...suggestion...heavy duty" It was the most unprofessional thing I had ever seen. I've been going to this place since my license was valid. I've dipped into other shops here and there at the suggestion of friends to widen my variety and experience it all, but I always find myself coming back to Safe Way. Why? Because this place is the cheers of autobody. They remember me, and take good care of me. Everybody knows your name. In my case thats because I typically have a black cloud of doom reigning/raining over me when it comes to my luck with cars, but this place has always taken the bite off the pains of having to get something fixed. They are always prompt and genuine with their service and their quality. They get everything done in a SUPER timely manner, and they even do great deals with the rental cars. Whether its a loaner while you're getting fixed up, or a vehicle you wanna rent for some special occasion, this place has always taken great care of me. They have fair prices and offer just about every single service you could imagine. The local police even take their cars here for care!! read more

I can't say enough great things about Safe Way! Hold on to your hats I have a little story. So I walk into Safe Way and in my mind I know what is wrong with my car. The car was pulling to the left, the wheel was wobblin', and it was the fault of RI's roadways. I was sure the alignment needed to be adjusted, I had just got my normal use tires put on after the snowy season. I walk in and I tell the person at the counter (a wonderfully nice lady) that I need an alignment. She says, "Why would you think that you need an alignment?". I was caught off guard slightly, I say, " I don't really know, it pulls to the left". She goes ok well let us look at it. The next day they call and said no alignment adjustment was needed the tires just need to be balanced. Apparently, the place that had just put my tires on had not balanced them (even though that is what I paid for...). They charged me I don't know $25. Something minuscule. The reason this is amazing is because another place may have just called me back and said "yeh it was the alignment" and charged me $115. The "problem" would have been fix and me non the wiser. I knew what I was talking about, right? so why wouldn't it be the alignment. The point is they showed me they know what they are talking about, I don't and they won't screw me. Since then I have had some majorish work done on my car (my car is old, like decrepit). Steve (the person I was working with at SW) worked with me and put a lot of effort into saving me money. And, I am the type to google part prices etc. and they have never steered me wrong. So I highly recommend. read more

My bf swears by this place and I definitely appreciate them. I had a unique situation with needing an emissions inspection in order to renew my out of state registration, but because of the holidays and coordinating forgetfulness it didn't get done before my registration expired. Plus I was a little confused as to the process here because in Arizona, you don't need an appointment and can just drive into the huge emissions testing center and be done in like 15 minutes. But here you have to find an authorized shop and have an appointment. And also apparently in Rhode Island, you can't get an emissions inspection without a current registration. So I was left in a Catch 22, that I couldn't renew my registration without an emissions test, but couldn't get an emissions test because I had an expired registration. While the process coordinating with the out of state MVD and the RI laws was frustrating, they helped me out as much as possible and really went above and beyond. Very much appreciate them and can definitely see why they have a loyal fan base. read more

I used to trust them but I took my 1979 Corvette in for inspection and they said I needed lower balljoints and tie rod ends. I took it to my regular mechanic and he found nothing wrong. I had it inspected at another place and it passed with no problem. Never again will I use Safeway. Very very disappointed!!! If I could I would give minus stars. read more

A family owned business that treats everyone like their family. Don't think twice about having your automobile serviced at Safe Way

Incompetent mechanics! I've been using Safe Way for years now. The last 3 times I've had my car in (2 oil changes and once for 4 new tires), I've asked them to look at my brakes. In each case including the tire change where they had my car on a lift with the brakes right in their face, they returned the car telling me the brakes were fine. I was still hearing grinding/squeaking so I brought it in and ask that they just look at my brakes. Later I got a phone call saying that 3 of my 4 calipers where frozen, my rotors where all chewed up and it would be $1400 to get it all fixed. I pointed out that I've been asking them to check my brakes for a long time and that there was no way all this damage had happened in the last few months. The owner said that they had talked about that and that they messed up but when I went in to talk to them they denied any wrong doing. No apology. No we'll take a few hundred off because we should have found this sooner, Just $1400. Take it or leave it. read more
