I just opened my folder of bundles of letters of correspondence with this shyster company. Never spoke to a SHS rep, salesman, etc., yet they made an UNAUTHORIZED hard credit inquiry on me. One of their customer service reps who told me, "Yes, we've had several similar complaints... and are investigating." He went so far as to ask if I had filled out any contest type forms lately (! ) The credit reporting agency says company must issue a withdrawal of the inquiry, but SHS says "We have over 1000 agents in the field, any of whom could have done this, so we have to investigate." That was a year ago and the number of complaints against them, including mine, grows. Unscrupulous, unfair, unauthorized. I'll happily retract this statement when SHS withdraws that inquiry. Safe Home Security located at 1125 Middle Street, Middletown, CT 06457 is scamming consumers into paying for security alarm monitoring by sending installation technicians with equipment that they say is a free upgrade to the current system and taking the old one and then sending an invoice for the new system when we refuse to buy their overpriced monitoring service. They blocked the serial number to the system to prevent use by another company and refused to return the previous system that was fully owned by me. I was told either I pay for the system or accept it as "free" by paying $1700 over 3 years for monitoring. Even if I pay for the system, they are holding the serial number to the internal radio under their dealer code so it cannot be used with a company I want to use. On 9/21/2018 I spoke with Taylor (x1165) to restart the monitoring service that I had 2 years prior at this same address using the same system that I'd purchased from them via a 3 year agreement June 2013. She told me that they would reinstate me at the same price I was at back then which was $47/month. I was paying $47/month for the system plus the monitoring over the term of that agreement. The price was too high for that, so I figured that it would be month-to-month until I found something with another company that I liked better. When I received the Docusign agreement, Taylor had sent it to cover another 36 months. I called them back the next day once I read that and got Omar (x1715) on the phone to understand why they thought I would commit to another 3 year agreement with no incentive. The first 3 years I'd gotten a brand new total home security system. Omar went to the Director of Customer Service, Jovan Phillips to get him to commit to giving me a free upgraded Simon XTi5 panel and the rest of year in free security monitoring. He told me that my first payment would not be due until 2019. He told me the panel was worth $350, so that would be me signing back up for roughly $500 in incentives. He assured me that even though this was not in the agreement, the calls were recorded so there was evidence if there was an issue later. I needed to have the security system set up when I moved back into my house, so I committed to the agreement. The agreement did not list any equipment and was essentially the basic terms of 36 months for $47/month for a total of $0 for equipment (not listed) and installation charges. It had my SSN section blank and my payment info blank among other things. Without that personal info, I figured we'd see what was what when the technician got there. The technician arrived and installed the new panel. He took with him my current panel that I'd already previously paid for. Later that week I started receiving phone calls from Safe Home Security asking for my payment information. This confused me because my first payment was not due until January 2019. After multiple calls that I could not answer since they called when I was at work, I called Taylor back to ask why they kept calling considering the terms agreed to by her Director. She said that they needed to collect the first month's monitoring fees and then the other months would be free. That was NOT was agreed to on 9/22/2018. I told her to get the Director, Jovan Phillips, on the phone since he was the one that made the agreement. Jovan tried to pull a bait and switch and say that Omar misspoke when he said that there were no payments due until January 2019. He even offered to give me 3 additional free months after I gave them my card info but with the caveat that I'd need to pay for the first month, get 3 months and then pay 1 month again before I could get the additional 3 months. It sounded sketchy, so I told him that I didn't want to have anything with them if they could not keep their basic word. This back and forth with lies about free credits and panels was my initial experience with them in 2013 until they finally made good on their promises. I didn't have time for that and told him that I would be going with another company. They blocked the serial number to the panel so that I can't use it with another company and sent me emails saying that I had to pay for the panel they gave me. I told them to come pick up their panel and bring back my previous one that worked just fine before they took it. They refused to bring back my old system that I fully owned and said that I was being invoiced for the "free" panel I never asked for. They said I either have to pay for the panel or pay for the monitoring. They're trying to force something on me that I did not agree to on the contract and that I don't want and can't use even if I did pay for it because I would never agree to be held hostage by them for 3 years. I just want my old panel back that I'd fully paid for years ago and they can come get theirs and leave my life. I hate that I ever heard of Safe Home Security. read more

Elder abuse, period. You are locked in to a contract even after the person (and only signer) on the contract is deceased. They target vulnerable seniors and pass the contract to next of kin after death in which you are locked in or required to pay off contract. The customer service is horrible. They claim to not receive documents they ask for even when you have fax receipts. They then say next of kin either pays or will be sent to collections regardless if they signed the contract or not because "that's just how we do things". If your contract has been bought out by this company good luck! The lack of professionalism from this company is ridiculous. After our contract was bought out by this company everything went down hill. We did receive a letter from or previous monitoring provider informing us the contract was being sold. First and foremost there was no introductory letter or anything letting us know they were the company taking over our monitoring. Finally an invoice arrives for two terms because the missed the first cycle. During this time the alarm did go off at least two times. Never once did I even receive a phone call or anything to address the alarm going off. I do not even know if they were actually looking at or monitoring anything. After asking a few questions Tonya via text explained the invoice(s). First red flag is when the invoices are not dated correctly and we have to inform them of this and have it corrected prior to payment. When confirming that we would like to cancel our monitoring service we were told that we could not and that we were still in contract until Jan 2023. Ok fine no big deal how ever we were informed that to cancel we would have to send a letter with a 30 day notice. This would cancel our service yet we would still be on the hook for the entire year. Tonya specifically said that our contract would expire on 1/31/23. In this case we may as well ride out the rest of the contract and let it expire correct? Well even though the contract "expired" in Feb 2023 another invoice came. when explaining that the contract "expired" we were told that it auto renewed and once again we were on the hook for another year. I never signed any sort of renewal contract, or any form of contract or recognition when the original contract was transferred. This company is a SCAM and it does not even seem like they are doing their job. The worst part is on top of being a scam every encounter I have had with anyone (Tonya, Savannah, Dorman, and multiple others on the phone) from the company they have been extremely rude, hostile, and forceful. OMG. I don't see one good reviews. I wish I read all the reviews before signing up with this worthless company. I also give them zero stars, but in addition I warn everyone interested in their service for their deceiving practice of creating fraudulent renewal contracts after the initial contract expired. I initially had a 2 yr contract that I fulfilled. Suddenly I got a bill and when I called I was told that I signed a 5 yr contract. Really, who signs a 5 yr contract anymore anyway. I was told that the signature was electronic and came from my email address and I could not find anything in my "sent' box. This was a lie on their behalf and good luck convincing them. Someone must have forged my contract. In the meantime, I am starting to look for legal assistance. If anyone is aware of who to contact, please respond. One more thing, reading through the reviews, it looks like this is common practice. It happens to someone the same thing that happened to me, which is to sign up a 5yr contract without the persons' knowledge. This is a horrible, abusive system! Our "sales person" talked us into signing a 5 YEAR contract. We are seniors and were told that the system and our satisfaction was 100% guaranteed. We thought that if we were unhappy with the system or the service that the company would make things right. Our salesman stopped working for the company shortly after signing us up, and we have had to have the system fixed several times. I was told today that because I did not send in a written request to end our agreement 60 days in advance of the agreement ending, it automatically renewed for an entire year. We are stuck. Avoid SHS at all costs. If you are involved with them now, beware of their ethics (or lack of them). This company appears to have a specialty in misleading or scamming people (especially seniors) into contracts then making it virtually impossible to get out of. They have no scruples about reporting negative information to credit agencies and damaging credit ratings then harassing people for payment. On April 19, 2011 we made the mistake of switching from ADT to Safe Home Security. The performance and equipment functioned acceptably until October 8, 2014. On October 16, 2014 a service call was made to repair what was a communication problem between the equipment and SHS. We were given a paper to sign that we were told was an acknowledgement of the service. We were never told, either in setting up the service or when the paperwork was presented that the "fine print" included a contract extension of 5 years. We would never have agreed to that commitment. On May 1,2014 we requested cancellation of our service verbally and were told all we had to do was send them a written request for cancellation. A letter was written to SHS and mailed that day. In May, we had two phone calls with SHS regarding our cancellation request. The last conversation was with Chris Heath, Customer Service. He was adamant that he explained to us on October 8, 2014 that we would be responsible for a five-year contract. He further asserted that he had taped the call, would forward an audio file of the recording to my clients by email and in the interim he would discuss the termination request with the company owner. No audio file or follow up response from Mr. Heath or any representative of SHS was ever received. Since then, we have blocked payments to SHS and have received monthly invoices from SHS. We have sent two additional letters to SHS (July 7 and September 19) regarding our reasons for cancellation and stopping payment. Our attorney has also sent a letter (September 2) to SHS. On September I noted that SHS had sent negative information to Equifax. This resulted in a drop in our credit rating from Excellent to Fair. This is a terrible way for a company to do business. Interesting to note that the only two favorable reviews are from Connecticut residents, the home state of SHS. Could they be from company employees? read more

This is the worst company ever. We finished a contract and tried to cancel. We were given the run-around several times regarding past due bills that did not exist. Several times we were told the account was closed and we were all set. Then we would receive another bill. I now received a letter threatening to report us to the credit bureaus. We paid every month like clockwork. We have great credit scores and always pay our bills. I have reported SHS to The RI Dept. of Attorney General's Office and the Better Business Bureau. read more

He provides inaccurate (half-true) information and later states that we misunderstood what he said. I would NOT recommend this company under any circumstances. I plan to file a complaint with their state's division of consumer affairs. I sent an email to their Corporate Director of Consumer Affairs with cc to the CEO. Who do they assign to "fix" my issue? We have been with this company for 30 years- but we discovered that our siren was not working. We had just been hustled into a 5 year contract and they came to install the siren. I was quoted $179 but service tech said "no it was $149" which I paid with a check. A week later they auto deducted $178 dollars from our account. After MANY calls they refunded $120.29 with no explanation. I am still trying to find out where the rest of the money is or why it was deducted. I would get out of this contract in a flash if I could. I am beyond frustration and anger with this. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY is all I can say at this point. Well, well, well! Where should I start? I ask myself why did I leave ADT? Don't worry because I will be going back! 1. First, I had questions related to my app. I could not see my camera I had "NOT" Safe Home Security to install because my internet provider changed. They could not walk me through fixing that unless I 1. sign up for a renewal or 2. be charged $89/hr. for a technician to come out. Customer service is #1 in my book! How I'm treated and where I'm spending my money I expect to be treated like the company actually appreciates receiving my automatic payments each month! ADT is by far the best company! The only reason I switched was because they do have rates that go up. I'd rather pay increasing rates rather be treated like I'm a peasant or a bother! No thank you! I'm canceling my account as of May 2021 and because I encouraged my mother to go with "NOT" Safe Home, she will be canceling too! Do NOT waste your money or time with this company! They SUCK!!! We had a knock on our door from a man called Kevin ___ who stated he was Sales manager for Safe Home Security and said he use to work for Vivant ..our current security system. Obviously he saw the sign in the yard. He came in and informed us he could save us money by signing us up for his companies system which was better than our current system. We told him we were planning to sell our house and wouldn't be needing another security system. He told us it was only a month to month and to give it a try. His installer was in the neighborhood and could install the new equipment right away with additional cameras which we didn't have currently. I explained we were on social security and in our late 70's and he said no problem ...when we sold the house to contact him only and he would take care of the removal of the equipment. He had us sign a tablet he presented . Several months later we sold our house and I called him and left 9 messages for him. At which time he never called me back. I called the company to cancel the service and was told we had signed a 60 SIXTY month contract and it would cost us 90% of the contract price $3000 to cancel. I told the man I did NOT sign any contract and relayed everything that happened when this man came to the door. He informed me this MAN was not employed by Safe Home and was an independent contractor. I told him that we had been scammed and we could not afford $3000 as we were moving to another state where we could afford to live and did not need a security system. I told the man from Safe Home that we were told this was month to month and the man that sold us this system would not return my calls. They did not charge me for 5 months of service and I told him I thought it only fair that I pay for those 5 months but that is all I owed them. I became aware when I got a bill that Safe Home Security "bought out a contract" I had with another company for over two decades. There was no "contract." I paid year-to-year. I checked out Safe Home Security and find they have a 1.06 rating with the Better Business Bureau, and are under a Motion for Contempt from the Attorney General of Connecticut because of their poor business practices in which they "buy out a contract" and charge exorbitant fees to get out of it, and if the victim doesn't pay up, they go after their credit rating. Despicable! I've sent them a formal letter notifying them that they have no contract with me, and I've called and left multiple messages to confirm they have discontinued their so-called "contract" but I have not gotten any calls back and can never get put through to their "special" department that handles such matters. Horrible customer service! If you are smart, you will have nothing to do with them. I highly suspect the favorable ratings on their Facebook page were all written by them! Dishonest, deceptive, predatory, abusive practices. Is this the kind of company you want protecting your home?! You should be less worried about the thieves out there as you're inviting the real criminals right in! Safe Home Security, Alliance, Alarm.com and whoever else they're swindling with are the real predators here. My husband and I took over a contract when we moved into our new home back in May with Alliance. We were told our contract would expire in August of 2018 and we would just have to call prior to the contract expiration to cancel. Instead, we received a bill from Safe Home Security this month (August 2017). We contacted Alliance to first check that this was even valid, since it was not the company we inherited the contract for, and were told they sold it to Safe Home Security. We never once received information on this change, no updates regarding the policies, business, etc. We were told to contact Safe Home Security and attempted to do so, REPEATEDLY. I'm convinced they do not actually have a customer service department, because we haven't spoken to an actual person once! No matter which number you choose in their menu you get placed into a holding queue, after waiting five minutes or so the robot suggests you press 2 to hop out of the queue, that a rep. will call you back. They don't call back. If you ignore the message to hang up, another five minutes or so later, the robot tells you to leave a message and a rep. will call you back. They don't call back. If you continue to wait past that point, the robot will eventually say "Please leave a message" only to HANG UP WITHOUT ALLOWING YOU TO LEAVE A MESSAGE. I have tried to contact them through their website as well, which I'm not convinced goes anywhere. The links for canceling or changing your plan in any way don't work either, I'm sure intentionally. You can't even view their legal page, which I'm positive is not coincidental. Please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. These crooks are impossible and from what I can see from all the other reviews, they'll probably ruin your credit, as well as suck months and years from you in the process. DO NOT BUY A SYSTEM FROM THIS COMPANY. They took advantage of my mother in early stages of dementia in 2018. The salesman had her sign a 5 year contract. She NEVER ONCE used the system. She didn't know how. When I called a year ago they basically said," the salesmen did not see anything wrong with her". Last time I checked salesmen do not have a medical degree in dementia. This company is $50 a month---ADT is $28 a month for the same services. When you go to not renew your 5 year contract at the end of the 5 years, they will point out that in the fine print that you signed for another 12 months because it was cancelled within 60 days prior to the contract expiration. This company is the worst sort of company there is. They trapped me in a contract for five years, then south renewed it for another three. When I try to get out they tell me you have to put it in writing before the renewal date March 6th. When I do I am called back and told your contract has auto renewed again because you needed to give us 60 days notice in writing. I was told by one of their phone reps that as long as I got it in by March 6th that I was guaranteed to be released. I told the person who called me back days later exactly what I was told and confirmed that I did through read receipts but was told that I was too late now and I have another year added to my prison sentence that has been going on for years. read more
