Avoid SHS at all costs. If you are involved with them now, beware of their ethics (or lack of them). This company appears to have a specialty in misleading or scamming people (especially seniors) into contracts then making it virtually impossible to get out of. They have no scruples about reporting negative information to credit agencies and damaging credit ratings then harassing people for payment. On April 19, 2011 we made the mistake of switching from ADT to Safe Home Security. The performance and equipment functioned acceptably until October 8, 2014. On October 16, 2014 a service call was made to repair what was a communication problem between the equipment and SHS. We were given a paper to sign that we were told was an acknowledgement of the service. We were never told, either in setting up the service or when the paperwork was presented that the "fine print" included a contract extension of 5 years. We would never have agreed to that commitment. On May 1,2014 we requested cancellation of our service verbally and were told all we had to do was send them a written request for cancellation. A letter was written to SHS and mailed that day. In May, we had two phone calls with SHS regarding our cancellation request. The last conversation was with Chris Heath, Customer Service. He was adamant that he explained to us on October 8, 2014 that we would be responsible for a five-year contract. He further asserted that he had taped the call, would forward an audio file of the recording to my clients by email and in the interim he would discuss the termination request with the company owner. No audio file or follow up response from Mr. Heath or any representative of SHS was ever received. Since then, we have blocked payments to SHS and have received monthly invoices from SHS. We have sent two additional letters to SHS (July 7 and September 19) regarding our reasons for cancellation and stopping payment. Our attorney has also sent a letter (September 2) to SHS. On September I noted that SHS had sent negative information to Equifax. This resulted in a drop in our credit rating from Excellent to Fair. This is a terrible way for a company to do business. Interesting to note that the only two favorable reviews are from Connecticut residents, the home state of SHS. Could they be from company employees? read more

This is the worst company ever. We finished a contract and tried to cancel. We were given the run-around several times regarding past due bills that did not exist. Several times we were told the account was closed and we were all set. Then we would receive another bill. I now received a letter threatening to report us to the credit bureaus. We paid every month like clockwork. We have great credit scores and always pay our bills. I have reported SHS to The RI Dept. of Attorney General's Office and the Better Business Bureau. read more

Beware of signing their 60 month contract, do not do it. They make it impossible to get out of, as you only have a 3 day window to rescind.

I also wish I could give zero stars. My experience with this company has been TERRIBLE. Our service rep consistently operates through shady business practices and deceit. He provides inaccurate (half-true) information and later states that we misunderstood what he said. I would NOT recommend this company under any circumstances. I plan to file a complaint with their state's division of consumer affairs. I sent an email to their Corporate Director of Consumer Affairs with cc to the CEO. Who do they assign to "fix" my issue? The same guy that consistently lies to us. He gives us a verbal resolution, and then calls back about 20 minutes later and changes it. We've been working with these crooks for over a month now to get our service relocated. We had previously completed a full contract and it will cost us over $600 to get out of our current one DESPITE THE FACT THAT THEY PROVIDED INACCURATE AND DECEITFUL INFORMATION! If I can save anyone from being financially abused by this company, it's worth my cancellation fee. I strongly encourage anyone considering this company to do your research first. There are numerous other home security companies who will provide reasonable installation and monthly monitoring that are far more dependable and honest than Safe Home Security. read more

On 5/17/22 I entered into a 3 yr contract with this company to provide alarm service for my home. One of the cameras stopped working. I discovered that it is a mechanical issue with the camera hardware. on 6/20/23 I contacted the company to have the camera replaced. They said they would call me back in 5 minutes. After 90 minutes I had not heard from them so I called back. The rep was rude and stated I either had to pay $15 per month for a warranty or $89/ hour for a service call. I let them know I would call back. I texted with my sales rep and he said he thought the camera was covered. I called back and the representative was kind and looked over the contract with me. He seemed to agree it was covered, but needed to take a break and speak with his boss. He said he would call back in 30 minutes. I never heard from him. I called again on 6/21/23. I again got a rude representative. He could not point out in the contract where the cameras were excluded. I asked for his supervisor. The supervisor also could not show me where the camera were excluded. He stated they were not part of the system. I asked for his supervisor. At first he refused and tried to give me the run around. When I insisted he said he could get me his voice mail. I agreed. After a long wait I was transferred and the supervisor picked up. His name is Elan Reese (I may have misspelled that). Mr. Reese was also unable to show me where int he contract it excluded the cameras. He told me he is a consumer outside of work and understood what I was telling him. He then said he would get the verbiage to explain to me and call me back the same day. I never heard from him. Attached is my signed contract. Section 6 details their commitment to replace defective equipment and also states what is excluded. It does not state cameras are excluded. read more

Horrible Company. RIP off! Should not allowed to be in business. Too long to write about my 2 year experience with them. I have already wasted tons of hard earned money and time with this all around incompetent, rude company. They put the problem on the customer and 90% of the time it is ABSURD! It is so frustrating. I want out of the 1 year remaining and they will not let me out unless I pay the BUY OUT FEE. They are hard to get a hold of, offer a product that does not work or have consistency. Then they try to put it on you. Far Fetched reasons. It's the ultimate crazy making game. Even though they are the ones who are Not upholding their agreements. I pay every month, on time. RUN the other way. Wish I could put negative 5 stars as my rating. OH and they want your service at the beginning and promise you the moon. DON'T fall for it!!!! Do not use this company. I had an agreement for them to take automatic monthly payments from my checking. My equipment has not worked in months, but SHS says they will not fix it without me paying for new equipment and signing a new 5 year contract. I declined and was waiting for my contract to end, which they told me in 2022 was 07/16/23. They confirmed that end date again on 03/02/23. So, I continue to make payments for equipment that doesn't work waiting until the contract ends. On 03/02/23 I called them because I noticed they did not take the Jan or Feb auto payment. They said it was a computer glitch on their end that affected 100s of customers, took the payments, and fixed the auto payments to start again. They assured me it would not affect my credit because it was a glitch on their end. They again did the hard sale, but said they would not fix the equipment unless I signed a new contract for 5 years and pay an equipment fee. I declined. They then opened a new account/contract on 03/06/23 without my knowledge per the credit companies and changed the cancel date to 03/06/24. I only discovered it when I was notified by the credit companies. I called and they had no explanation, but insist I now owe until 03/06/24. Again a hard sale, which I declined. In retaliation for my not agreeing to a new contract, on 04/05/23 they sent a notice to the credit companies that they are now changing their prior submission in Jan, Feb and March of on time payments, to report a late fee in January (even though it was due to their own computer system glitch), which lowered my score 88 points). I have not been able to get them to fix the issues. I hopeful I can cancel my account with this dishonest company without them charging me for a year due to the new contract they unilaterally opened without my knowledge. read more

Cancelled service with them back in January 2016. Today is Aug. 5, 2016 and still reviewing bills along with threats of sending me to a collection agency. Can never get hold of a person on the phone. Between Frontier and SHS, it's neck n neck! read more

This company is AWEFUL. I have not lived in my home in CT for 3 years. When we sold our home I called the company and told them the house was sold.. They told me my contract was not up. After going back and forth I agreed to pay over $500 to cancel and get out of the contract. Fast forward 3 years they called today and say that the contract was never cancelled and it was in a month to month status and I owed $1500???? I owed because they never cancelled on their side??? I just opened my folder of bundles of letters of correspondence with this shyster company. Never spoke to a SHS rep, salesman, etc., yet they made an UNAUTHORIZED hard credit inquiry on me. One of their customer service reps who told me, "Yes, we've had several similar complaints... and are investigating." He went so far as to ask if I had filled out any contest type forms lately (! ) The credit reporting agency says company must issue a withdrawal of the inquiry, but SHS says "We have over 1000 agents in the field, any of whom could have done this, so we have to investigate." That was a year ago and the number of complaints against them, including mine, grows. Unscrupulous, unfair, unauthorized. I'll happily retract this statement when SHS withdraws that inquiry. There's also facebook page called Customers Against Safe Home Security. Wonder why? read more

I can not give this place a negative start review or I would. They are billing my 82 year old grandmother for services that she did not want and has been trying to get canceled for almost a year. Safe Home Security located at 1125 Middle Street, Middletown, CT 06457 is scamming consumers into paying for security alarm monitoring by sending installation technicians with equipment that they say is a free upgrade to the current system and taking the old one and then sending an invoice for the new system when we refuse to buy their overpriced monitoring service. They blocked the serial number to the system to prevent use by another company and refused to return the previous system that was fully owned by me. I was told either I pay for the system or accept it as "free" by paying $1700 over 3 years for monitoring. Even if I pay for the system, they are holding the serial number to the internal radio under their dealer code so it cannot be used with a company I want to use. On 9/21/2018 I spoke with Taylor (x1165) to restart the monitoring service that I had 2 years prior at this same address using the same system that I'd purchased from them via a 3 year agreement June 2013. She told me that they would reinstate me at the same price I was at back then which was $47/month. I was paying $47/month for the system plus the monitoring over the term of that agreement. The price was too high for that, so I figured that it would be month-to-month until I found something with another company that I liked better. When I received the Docusign agreement, Taylor had sent it to cover another 36 months. I called them back the next day once I read that and got Omar (x1715) on the phone to understand why they thought I would commit to another 3 year agreement with no incentive. The first 3 years I'd gotten a brand new total home security system. Omar went to the Director of Customer Service, Jovan Phillips to get him to commit to giving me a free upgraded Simon XTi5 panel and the rest of year in free security monitoring. He told me that my first payment would not be due until 2019. He told me the panel was worth $350, so that would be me signing back up for roughly $500 in incentives. He assured me that even though this was not in the agreement, the calls were recorded so there was evidence if there was an issue later. I needed to have the security system set up when I moved back into my house, so I committed to the agreement. The agreement did not list any equipment and was essentially the basic terms of 36 months for $47/month for a total of $0 for equipment (not listed) and installation charges. It had my SSN section blank and my payment info blank among other things. Without that personal info, I figured we'd see what was what when the technician got there. The technician arrived and installed the new panel. He took with him my current panel that I'd already previously paid for. Later that week I started receiving phone calls from Safe Home Security asking for my payment information. This confused me because my first payment was not due until January 2019. After multiple calls that I could not answer since they called when I was at work, I called Taylor back to ask why they kept calling considering the terms agreed to by her Director. She said that they needed to collect the first month's monitoring fees and then the other months would be free. That was NOT was agreed to on 9/22/2018. I told her to get the Director, Jovan Phillips, on the phone since he was the one that made the agreement. Jovan tried to pull a bait and switch and say that Omar misspoke when he said that there were no payments due until January 2019. He even offered to give me 3 additional free months after I gave them my card info but with the caveat that I'd need to pay for the first month, get 3 months and then pay 1 month again before I could get the additional 3 months. It sounded sketchy, so I told him that I didn't want to have anything with them if they could not keep their basic word. This back and forth with lies about free credits and panels was my initial experience with them in 2013 until they finally made good on their promises. I didn't have time for that and told him that I would be going with another company. They blocked the serial number to the panel so that I can't use it with another company and sent me emails saying that I had to pay for the panel they gave me. I told them to come pick up their panel and bring back my previous one that worked just fine before they took it. They refused to bring back my old system that I fully owned and said that I was being invoiced for the "free" panel I never asked for. They said I either have to pay for the panel or pay for the monitoring. They're trying to force something on me that I did not agree to on the contract and that I don't want and can't use even if I did pay for it because I would never agree to be held hostage by them for 3 years. I just want my old panel back that I'd fully paid for years ago and they can come get theirs and leave my life. I hate that I ever heard of Safe Home Security. read more

If I could give it zero stars I would. They acquired my account from a previous provider and I have had nothing but trouble since. My payments were still coming out but my account was not being credited and was past due. So I was basically paying someone else's bill but they had no clue who's. Then they made me sign a new contract when mine should have rolled over locking me into crappy service for even longer. Now I get bills that say I'm past due when my account is on autopay and I've been told to ignore the notices (wtf). I've also received bills to my home address with other customers names on them. The previous company took care of their customers but this one does not. Also, because my account was acquired my equipment is no longer covered unless I pay them even more for a warranty which I did not have to do with the previous company. Oh and if I want out of their contract that they snuck me into I have to pay it out. DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICES. Beware!! read more

Just Google safe home security and you will see hundreds of people that have been scammed, held hostage, yelled at in the phone, lied to, and manipulated. This company is the worst sort of company there is. They trapped me in a contract for five years, then south renewed it for another three. When I try to get out they tell me you have to put it in writing before the renewal date March 6th. When I do I am called back and told your contract has auto renewed again because you needed to give us 60 days notice in writing. I was told by one of their phone reps that as long as I got it in by March 6th that I was guaranteed to be released. Safe home security company has the worst customer service. Do not sign any contract with them with out speaking with a lawyer. Elder abuse, period. You are locked in to a contract even after the person (and only signer) on the contract is deceased. They target vulnerable seniors and pass the contract to next of kin after death in which you are locked in or required to pay off contract. The customer service is horrible. They claim to not receive documents they ask for even when you have fax receipts. They then say next of kin either pays or will be sent to collections regardless if they signed the contract or not because "that's just how we do things". The only way I'll pay is if I lose in court and a judge orders me to pay. If anyone would like to join me in a lawsuit against them message me. read more

OMG. I don't see one good reviews. I wish I read all the reviews before signing up with this worthless company. I also give them zero stars, but in addition I warn everyone interested in their service for their deceiving practice of creating fraudulent renewal contracts after the initial contract expired. I initially had a 2 yr contract that I fulfilled. Suddenly I got a bill and when I called I was told that I signed a 5 yr contract. Really, who signs a 5 yr contract anymore anyway. I was told that the signature was electronic and came from my email address and I could not find anything in my "sent' box. This was a lie on their behalf and good luck convincing them. Someone must have forged my contract. In the meantime, I am starting to look for legal assistance. If anyone is aware of who to contact, please respond. One more thing, reading through the reviews, it looks like this is common practice. It happens to someone the same thing that happened to me, which is to sign up a 5yr contract without the persons' knowledge. I contacted the CEO and was told that his secretary reviewed the file Same answer, which is that I signed the contract, so it becomes my problem; to the point I told them I am insulted by liars claiming that I am lying. THE WORST COMPANY EVER! Like bunch of folks said in their reviews, the company is a scam with the worst customer service, ever. Shame on them! read more

This business shows a lack of respect for its customers. When you sign a contract with them, there is fine print ( which they do not mention when you sing up) which states that the contract automatically renews if you do not give a written notice of cancellation prior to 60 days of the original contract term ending. I was given no written notice that the contract was going to automatically renew prior to my automatic renewal date. When I tried to cancel a month after the term ended, they were extremely rigid and unhelpful, stating that they had to go by the contract and that I was forced to honor the contract for another year. When I tried to speak to someone above the level of the account manager, the account manager refused to trasfer me, stating that he was the only one who could handle my account. Why enact such predatory business practices? Is this the only way they can keep their business going, by entrapping customers. I advise you to avoid this company, or you will waste a lot of time and end up paying a lot of money which you dont' want to pay. I would also like to mention that it took several service calls for this company to figure out how to activate our existing system. If there was a rating of zero or minus stars, this company woudl receive it! read more

This is a horrible, abusive system! Our "sales person" talked us into signing a 5 YEAR contract. We are seniors and were told that the system and our satisfaction was 100% guaranteed. We thought that if we were unhappy with the system or the service that the company would make things right. Our salesman stopped working for the company shortly after signing us up, and we have had to have the system fixed several times. Well, well, well! Where should I start? I ask myself why did I leave ADT? Don't worry because I will be going back! 1. First, I had questions related to my app. I could not see my camera I had "NOT" Safe Home Security to install because my internet provider changed. They could not walk me through fixing that unless I 1. sign up for a renewal or 2. be charged $89/hr. for a technician to come out. Customer service is #1 in my book! How I'm treated and where I'm spending my money I expect to be treated like the company actually appreciates receiving my automatic payments each month! ADT is by far the best company! The only reason I switched was because they do have rates that go up. I'd rather pay increasing rates rather be treated like I'm a peasant or a bother! No thank you! I'm canceling my account as of May 2021 and because I encouraged my mother to go with "NOT" Safe Home, she will be canceling too! Do NOT waste your money or time with this company! They SUCK!!! We had a knock on our door from a man called Kevin ___ who stated he was Sales manager for Safe Home Security and said he use to work for Vivant ..our current security system. Obviously he saw the sign in the yard. He came in and informed us he could save us money by signing us up for his companies system which was better than our current system. We told him we were planning to sell our house and wouldn't be needing another security system. He told us it was only a month to month and to give it a try. His installer was in the neighborhood and could install the new equipment right away with additional cameras which we didn't have currently. I explained we were on social security and in our late 70's and he said no problem ...when we sold the house to contact him only and he would take care of the removal of the equipment. He had us sign a tablet he presented . Several months later we sold our house and I called him and left 9 messages for him. At which time he never called me back. I called the company to cancel the service and was told we had signed a 60 SIXTY month contract and it would cost us 90% of the contract price $3000 to cancel. I told the man I did NOT sign any contract and relayed everything that happened when this man came to the door. He informed me this MAN was not employed by Safe Home and was an independent contractor. I told him that we had been scammed and we could not afford $3000 as we were moving to another state where we could afford to live and did not need a security system. I told the man from Safe Home that we were told this was month to month and the man that sold us this system would not return my calls. They did not charge me for 5 months of service and I told him I thought it only fair that I pay for those 5 months but that is all I owed them. I became aware when I got a bill that Safe Home Security "bought out a contract" I had with another company for over two decades. There was no "contract." I paid year-to-year. I checked out Safe Home Security and find they have a 1.06 rating with the Better Business Bureau, and are under a Motion for Contempt from the Attorney General of Connecticut because of their poor business practices in which they "buy out a contract" and charge exorbitant fees to get out of it, and if the victim doesn't pay up, they go after their credit rating. Despicable! I've sent them a formal letter notifying them that they have no contract with me, and I've called and left multiple messages to confirm they have discontinued their so-called "contract" but I have not gotten any calls back and can never get put through to their "special" department that handles such matters. Dishonest, deceptive, predatory, abusive practices. Is this the kind of company you want protecting your home?! You should be less worried about the thieves out there as you're inviting the real criminals right in! Safe Home Security, Alliance, Alarm.com and whoever else they're swindling with are the real predators here. My husband and I took over a contract when we moved into our new home back in May with Alliance. We were told our contract would expire in August of 2018 and we would just have to call prior to the contract expiration to cancel. Instead, we received a bill from Safe Home Security this month (August 2017). We contacted Alliance to first check that this was even valid, since it was not the company we inherited the contract for, and were told they sold it to Safe Home Security. We never once received information on this change, no updates regarding the policies, business, etc. We were told to contact Safe Home Security and attempted to do so, REPEATEDLY. I'm convinced they do not actually have a customer service department, because we haven't spoken to an actual person once! No matter which number you choose in their menu you get placed into a holding queue, after waiting five minutes or so the robot suggests you press 2 to hop out of the queue, that a rep. will call you back. They don't call back. If you ignore the message to hang up, another five minutes or so later, the robot tells you to leave a message and a rep. will call you back. They don't call back. If you continue to wait past that point, the robot will eventually say "Please leave a message" only to HANG UP WITHOUT ALLOWING YOU TO LEAVE A MESSAGE. I have tried to contact them through their website as well, which I'm not convinced goes anywhere. The links for canceling or changing your plan in any way don't work either, I'm sure intentionally. You can't even view their legal page, which I'm positive is not coincidental. Please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. These crooks are impossible and from what I can see from all the other reviews, they'll probably ruin your credit, as well as suck months and years from you in the process. These people are the real criminals. If I could give negative stars I would. They should be shut down. read more
