This was great and I wish more companies offered it. We had three packers for three hours the first day which was speedy and efficient. Both days they arrived early which I really appreciated. The second day we had three movers, however they moved a bit slower than I would have liked. One of three of the workers stayed in the truck the entire time and did not rotate with the other workers, who started showing signs of fatigue after several hours (understandable). I understand getting tired, but towards the end of their work my instructions were not followed and boxes were placed haphazardly on our first and second floor rather than where I asked them to be. It took them almost two hours to get from our old to our new place, during which time they mentioned stopping for food and water (but I was charged the full time). I want these guys to get a break and asked if they would get one, but never got a clear answer, and I think I paid for all the time anyways. All and all, we enjoyed using this service and would recommend it for anyone tackling a big move in Vancouver. They could work a little faster, but all of my items arrived safely which was my primary concern.

Short Version: Broke tons of stuff. Quoted $800, showed up and said that it shouldn't take too…read morelong. Billed $1400. Not even remotely competent Longer Version: Talked to Curtis. He seemed great and he gave what I thought was a fair quote. We were moving a basement suite and had 40-50 boxes and few other large items (dresser, wardrobe etc.) They showed up early, seemed courteous and professional. Assessed the situation and said that everything looked good. We had everything in boxes, labelled and organized. They said 2 hours to get it out at the most. Then things went downhill...fast. The two workers started arguing that about whether they should bring another guy to help. The one said they shouldn't but eventually they asked me if they should. I let them know it was fine because I like to trust people to do a good job. They said it wouldn't be more expensive because although I have to pay for each person, they would be more efficient. Reasonable. Noon rolls around and they're still not packed. Remember they said 2 hours tops then brought in another guy to help. So, it should be way under 2 hours, but we are at 4+. I started to notice that the new guy they brought has been on his phone most of the time. Seems like he's putting out fires things for Low Budget Moving. Fair enough, but not really something I want to pay for. The other guys don't really seem to be moving boxes and working hard when I see them in my suite, but when I go up, then their just chatting and doing nothing. I think this was the chief the reason that 2 hours for 2 people became 5 hours for 3 people. That is on the cost side of things, but that's not all. When they showed up they said they would insure only solid wood furniture to be moved without damage. They didn't want to insure cheap IKEA furniture or already packed boxes. That seems fair to me. They broke 2 solid wood pieces of furniture. Replaced none and offered no compensation. One table they admitted to breaking. They just fell on it and broke it. Admitted it and did nothing. The China cabinet they refused to admit they broke but kind of in the same way that a child with chocolate on their face rufuses to admin they are responsible for the missing chocolate. They took some parts of the cabinet and said they'd look into replacing it, but then ghosted me. Lastly, they just sucked at moving. I have a hundred stories from the day but the one that illustrates it best is this. We asked them to move a wardrobe into a corner that they had placed in the middle of the room. It need to be moved about 2 meters. They were struggling to move it, crawling around on their knees, pushing it then putting it down, then and trying to figure out how to move it. Eventually after my wife and watching for a while, we just moved it. It took about 15 seconds for us (minus the few minutes of watching them struggle to do their job). We aren't strong, just healthy 30-year-olds who aren't getting paid by the hour. All in all they were just not competent at the basic task, did not actually work, and broke or damaged a lot of items. Try someone else. Literally any one.

It was a panic to get everything done, without going into detail things went from bad to worse. It was very stressful. However, the crew was great, wrapped everything well, worked hard to get my things out of the house and no furniture was damaged. When I shared my experience with the owners, they took responsibility, apologized and made it right in a BIG way. One hears of so many companies that make excuses and are difficult to deal with. I used Ellis Moving & Storage to move my belongings from Vancouver to Spain. The main reason I…read moredecided to bring things from home versus buying new here in Spain was because of my collection of paintings which I didn't want to part with. We also spoke in detail about the types of each painting (e.g. oil vs water colour, etc.), and I requested that my six most valuable paintings be crated for added protection. When I interviewed Ellis and a couple of other companies, I was very clear that taking care of my art work was the most important part of the move. Flash forward to present day. When my items finally arrived in Spain and I had the chance to open the boxes and check to make sure that they had arrived okay, I was upset to see that for my two most valuable paintings, paint came off each painting onto the plastic wrap that they had wrapped them in. They hadn't bothered to wrap them more carefully to ensure this didn't happen. Note that I have moved these paintings many times myself over the years and never had this happen because I put a layer of cardboard between the front of each painting and the plastic wrap to ensure this didn't happen. And for one other treasured artwork, the plastic completely stuck to the entire surface of the painting! Fortunately it came off without damaging the painting, even though it appears to have left some residue on the surface (which fortunately seems to come off with some gentle wiping). When I emailed my main contact about what had happened, he didn't respond. I then forwarded the same email to him and "cc'ed" the CEO - his brother I believe - to see if I received a response. Still nothing. I find this very unacceptable considering the thousands of dollars I paid to them for their services. To give credit where credit is due, all of my other items arrived safely included my china and crystal glass set. However, the pieces of art that got damaged are worth over $12,000 Cdn. For one of them, it was only a small amount of paint that came off, but there was more damage on the other one. And I was very clear that they were the most important pieces to me. Plus it's hard to understand how professional movers don't know how to properly wrap things like paintings, and also why they completely forgot to crate the key pieces as discussed. So unfortunately I have to give Ellis Moving & Storage a D, especially because ignoring me once I reported the issue to them shows a complete lack of professionalism in my estimation. I would recommend finding another moving company, especially if you're transporting fine art work.
