I used Ellis Moving recently and had a bad experience. A new employee had underestimated my move and consequently a smaller truck arrived. I was on a time frame to get packed up, floors cleaned and catch a ferry. We had to wait for a bigger truck. It was a panic to get everything done, without going into detail things went from bad to worse. It was very stressful. However, the crew was great, wrapped everything well, worked hard to get my things out of the house and no furniture was damaged. When I shared my experience with the owners, they took responsibility, apologized and made it right in a BIG way. One hears of so many companies that make excuses and are difficult to deal with. This is a company with integrity. Thank you Donna & James read more

I used Ellis Moving & Storage to move my belongings from Vancouver to Spain. The main reason I decided to bring things from home versus buying new here in Spain was because of my collection of paintings which I didn't want to part with. We also spoke in detail about the types of each painting (e.g. oil vs water colour, etc.), and I requested that my six most valuable paintings be crated for added protection. When I interviewed Ellis and a couple of other companies, I was very clear that taking care of my art work was the most important part of the move. Flash forward to present day. When my items finally arrived in Spain and I had the chance to open the boxes and check to make sure that they had arrived okay, I was upset to see that for my two most valuable paintings, paint came off each painting onto the plastic wrap that they had wrapped them in. They hadn't bothered to wrap them more carefully to ensure this didn't happen. Note that I have moved these paintings many times myself over the years and never had this happen because I put a layer of cardboard between the front of each painting and the plastic wrap to ensure this didn't happen. And for one other treasured artwork, the plastic completely stuck to the entire surface of the painting! Fortunately it came off without damaging the painting, even though it appears to have left some residue on the surface (which fortunately seems to come off with some gentle wiping). When I emailed my main contact about what had happened, he didn't respond. I then forwarded the same email to him and "cc'ed" the CEO - his brother I believe - to see if I received a response. Still nothing. I find this very unacceptable considering the thousands of dollars I paid to them for their services. To give credit where credit is due, all of my other items arrived safely included my china and crystal glass set. However, the pieces of art that got damaged are worth over $12,000 Cdn. For one of them, it was only a small amount of paint that came off, but there was more damage on the other one. And I was very clear that they were the most important pieces to me. Plus it's hard to understand how professional movers don't know how to properly wrap things like paintings, and also why they completely forgot to crate the key pieces as discussed. So unfortunately I have to give Ellis Moving & Storage a D, especially because ignoring me once I reported the issue to them shows a complete lack of professionalism in my estimation. I would recommend finding another moving company, especially if you're transporting fine art work. read more

We've now used Ellis Moving 3 times. Once to California 6 year's back. Then November 2020 packing out of Vancouver and storing until August 2021. Then Aug 10 moving from Vancouver to Victoria. The last two moves went particularly well. The Van-Vic one couldn't have been better. The sun shone, but not too much. The ferry left as expected. Excellent communications with head office. My husband took care of that end this time and it worked well. They met all their targets. No surprises. Which is just what one hopes for. A wonderful crew: thank you very much Jorge, Everson and Micha. You all did a great job. With care, professionalism, humour and extreme efficiency. Also some particularly good recommendations wrt positioning from Everson. Such patience, all of you. The price was reasonable. The service couldn't have been better. We thoroughly recommend Ellis and would use them again in a heartbeat. Just hope we won't be any time soon. It's such a tiring sport! read more

Definitely would hire this company again, Emerson and his crew were fast and efficient and very professional. We moved from Osoyoos to Courtenay and they were on time for pickup and delivery. Great Job!! read more

What can I say? Ellis Moving & Storage is the best! My move from North Vancouver to Surrey went as smooth as can be. The crew showed up on time, were very courteous and polite and didn't take any breaks. The biggest thing that impressed me though is that they were so careful with my late mother's china collection. Each plate was individually wrapped in moving paper and they even had a special way of packing the china so that it won't budge when being moved. All in all I would recommend Ellis Moving & Storage again in a heartbeat. I've dealt with other movers in the past and Ellis is in a class of their own! Jeff A. read more

One of the best moving companies I've ever hired! I was looking for a moving company a few months ago and found this through the BBB website. This company charges either by a flat rate (4 hours) and per hour depending on your present to future living arrangement. They showed up on time and worked really fast and was able to move my stuff in a few hours. They didn't damage either of the buildings but one of my table legs came off when they transported it to my new place. They offered to repair my table and have me pick it up when it was fully fixed. Excellent, friendly service. read more

Super impressed! By far the best movers i've ever hired. They showed up on time, worked quickly with no breaks & no slacking. I was amazed by how fast they worked, and how much they got done in just a few short hours. No damage to furniture or either of the buildings. They actually came in $20 under the estimate. read more

I was exceptionally impressed with the services of Ellis moving. I have never had such professional service from the owner to the crew. We had to coordinate a very complicated move including storage, cross country transport, border crossing, temporary storage and international delivery. When a few bolts were missing they were able to check their video system and tell me exactly what had happened until they released the goods. That was impressive. They are prompt, courteous, detailed, clean cut and made a very complicated process easier to navigate. If this review seems somewhat effusive, it's because I've never seen a moving company in my experience as attentive to detail and concerned about customer service as Ellis. Well done to the entire team. read more

I want to thank you, James, Donna and the rest of the Ellis team for the excellent service! Our furniture came right on time to our oversees home here in Baden. Ross and I were really impressed by how well everything was packed, the quality of service and the attention paid all the way through the very completion of the move. read more

FIRST CLASS! Extremely respectful staff! In the beginning for the estimate we had set up a date, but because of Covid 19, and a family situation we had to arrange another time, Phil came the same day we had spoke on the phone, well if that isn't FANTASTIC personal service I don't know what is! We had Everson, Horhe, Bernard and Mica pack and move us, (hopefully I spelled their names correctly). They packed our stuff one day, then returned the next day to move us. We had lots of precious artworks and valuables, everything was really well wrapped! I obtained a permit to reserve a parking spot out in front of our Kits apt, there were still 2 cars that were parked moving day! The city would not remove one of them because they said the car was there before they put up the signs! The city only posted the signs one business day before the move! In the past the city posted the signs a week before. The movers did their best under the circumstances. They say the three most stresses in life are Death, Divorce and Moving! Well this company is the best we have ever used. We have moved 8 times in 36 years...so don't hesitate THESE ARE THE FOLKS TO HIRE! I was told they will come and pick up all the boxes after we get unpacked, well thats huge! read more

Where do I start with these guys... First off, we made a decision to go with Ellis after the movers we have used in the past showed up 45 minutes late for an estimate... Ellis assured they would be on time, punctual & reliable, so we decided to go with them, even though their quote was quite a bit higher than the other guys. We just wanted it done right, and thought Ellis seemed like the right company, especially after checking out the awesome reviews on yelp... We were paying for the full meal deal, pack, move & unpack service... Two out of four guys ended up showing late, once they got in, they slowly started to put together things, gently taking a piece of packing paper, and oh-so-delicately placing it in the box and around the kitchen items. There is packing properly, so your items don't get damaged, and then there is just being slow, milking the time so you make more bucks. I saw right through them... Wasting time, making small talk... Really the packing process shouldn't have taken more than 2 hours with 4 GUYS and our help also. It was only a 2 bedroom apartment! They showed up around 9am, the truck wasn't loaded until after 1pm. That amount of time taken for them to pack a 2 bedroom, that already had things packed anyway... doesn't even begin to make sense... Another confusion. The packing materials we discussed were supposed to be the reusable eco friendly bins... We were surprised with brand new cardboard boxes & tape... Not even the biggest deal, but still not great when you are expecting something else, and being charged for all this material. Slowly the unload begins... We wind up unpacking 90% of the boxes ourselves, they just put the beds back together and moved the boxes and furniture into the condo. So much for packing and unpacking in the estimated time. The building management even noted that they were the pokiest movers they have ever seen. As they day goes on, a few of them start complaining how they cannot wait to get home... Well, maybe they should have thought of that before slacking the bulk of the day away. Eventually it comes the time to square up the bill. And here is the part where they really try to hose me for nearly $900 in overtime charges and travel fees. We moved two blocks away so that seemed ridiculous, especially when there isn't any travel on their estimate. then comes the OT discussion--they wanted $30 per guy per hour for several hours, not just the one hour extra they worked. we go back and forth with two big movers towering over us saying we need to pay or give them credit card and we can settle up with billing later. they were putting it on big time! We flat out refuse, I"m getting angry and tell the movers to get the owner on the phone to discuss where this is coming from. With him on the phone, I'm sitting there adjusting the numbers on the invoice, while the mover guys pout in the hallway. he caved and agreed to the hourly rate that was in the estimate. Really think it was all a scam to see if they can get you to pay extra, then the owners and movers split it. on top of that, they were the SLOWEST movers I've ever seen. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY! read more

They were unable to assist my needs, however, they get 5 stars simply on communication. Compared to the other companies that I've inquired about my needs, these guys had the courtesy to not only respond within the same business day but also pointed me in the right direction. They were extremely polite to me on the phone. I am a huge advocate with proper communication and customer service. Bad customer service is a pet peeve of mine, therefore, when someone offers good customer service even if the first stage is inquiry I will recognize that positively. read more

Extremely overpriced. You pay them by the hour and they were going to slowly as possible. Even to the point of hiding! Then when you pay the exorbitant fee they laugh at you and say you are a sucker. read more

Exactly, methinks not because I tried to get a quote and it took 2.5 days for a response. When I finally did get a quote I got was 40 bucks shy of $2000 for an 800 pound estimate. First, only pets have approx 800 lbs to move but if you are human and live in a one bedroom apt you will need a proper estimate closer to minimum 1500 lbs (I sent an itemized list). I can just imagine what the final bill would have been. Wanted to love because of the reviews but I'll pass. read more

Do NOT go with this company. The manager of the company, Phil Ellis, is flat out the most rude person I have ever met. When I asked him where I could get buy large moving boxes he rolled his eyes and said "um...from us?" When I told him I was going to pack my clothes in a few garbage bags he mockingly laughed and so "No you won't. " From the minute he showed up to my door he was rude and cold so I kicked him out. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS COMPANY read more

Ellis employees arrived and asked if they could use my blankets to protect things as they didn't bring anything?? I should have cancelled but didn't so when they moved us several items were missing including our PS3 game player. The moving van looked like it had turned over on the road as everything carefully stacked the day before was on the floor in a big pile! I would never use Ellis moving again!!! read more

As of early May 2018,WCB told me that they have been members since 1980, which is good. They seem like nice people on the phone too.

Worst moving experience ever I hired Ellis moving to relocate my 102 year old, fully restored baby grand upright piano to my house. The owner came for the quote and told us he would send his best crew. During the move the movers, more interested in getting the job done quickly than carefully, smashed the piano into a brick wall, denting and damaging the finish on the front of the piano. In addition, while trying to get it up a flight of stairs in my house, which they were not successful at, they dented the wall in two places. When I approached Ellis moving about repairs to the piano they refuse to fix or pay for the damage to the piano and would only waive the moving cost. Consequently I am out of pocket over $700 for repairs. Ellis Moving and Storage is clearly the least professional and least customer focused moving company I have ever had the misfortune of using. If you value your property don't use Ellis moving. . read more

Just wanted to drop you a quick message to thank you for making our long distance move such an awesome experience. Had not moved in 36 years and were quite anxious about doing so, but from the moment James came out to give us a quote he put as at ease. Love James can't say enough about him!! The moving crew were incredibly too good to be true...... fun, hardworking, professional guys & nothing arrived damaged or broken, what more could you ask for. This July I ended up hiring Ellis Moving & Storage to move my parents from West Vancouver to Las Vegas. Quote was given, which at that time was the best quote I had received out of 6 estimates. Included was a mandatory minimum insurance required by Atlas. We chose the insurance with the $500.00 deductible. Now, Atlas I found out calls this an evaluation not insurance. Anyways, we had over 450 boxes plus furniture delivered to our residence in Las Vegas. Unloading of the truck took from 9:00 Am till about 4:30PM in the afternoon that day. I was the only one accepting all the goods and giving direction to six other people where to put each and every box being unloaded. To make the story short, I was never given the chance to check off all items being unloaded because the driver couldn't wait and we were overwhelmed with too many boxes to count. He wanted me to just sign and and give him the check so that he can leave. Once I saw the amount I had to pay I was really upset. Because what they quoted me and what the total was we were just over $8000.00 dollars apart. I managed to have them reduce it by another $2000.00. But the conclusion of the matter is don't believe any moving companies quotes. There evaluation (not insurance) which they charge customers is a waste of money, also when we checked all items received afterwards we had many many boxes missing and many items damaged and broken. On top of that when I spent several hours filling out claim forms and waiting for a resolution which at the end they denied my claim. They expect you to keep all broken items for over 2 months until the send some one over for a review. They got to be kidding me! What we provided them was pictures of the broken item and that wasn't good enough for them. Anyways, I will never refer a family member or any of my friends to this company or anyone affiliated with Atlas. Don't be fooled by there reviews. I will guarantee you that you will be overcharged and things will go missing and get broken during your move, and you will have a difficult time claiming it. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I am very pleased with the service provided by this company. I recently needed to move a small grand piano and a queen-sized bed from Vancouver to the Southern Interior and booked Ellis Moving for the job. Both the crew that picked up the items in Vancouver and the crew that delivered them to my new home were courteous, efficient, friendly, and professional. Delivery took longer than the estimate I was given, but I was okay with that as it is difficult to predict when the company will have a full truck headed up Highway 1 to my area. There was a discrepancy between the estimated price and the final bill, so I e-mailed the company to point this out. I received a reply on the morning of the first business day after I sent the e-mail with an apology and a promise of a refund, which I received almost instantly. I highly recommend this company, both for the above-mentioned reasons and for the fact that their cost is lower than the more famous piano movers in Vancouver. read more
