DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!!! I have to move every 2-5 years, and I can honestly say this was THE WORST MOVING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. Normally, I write positive reviews for my movers, but not this time. Unfortunately, my favorite moving company closed down after COVID, so I was forced to find someone new to move my stored belongings from North Vancouver to Los Angeles. I was all set to use PODS, but at the last minute, I found out my storage unit wouldn't allow overnight parking of the POD, and PODS doesn't have same-day drop-off/pick-up. In a panic, I called around to find an alternative. All the good companies were booked (that should have been my first clue!). The owner, Joe, who is a GREAT salesman over the phone, agreed to do the job ALL IN at $8,000 CAD. I gave him a deposit of $2,000 on a different credit card, and he sent me a picture of the receipt via text. We confirmed over text message that there would be two stops in LA: one at my apartment and one at my storage unit. This was even written on the receipt he sent me. Here is what transpired: Joe called me the week before my move, complaining about not being able to take a rental truck to the U.S. and becoming really busy, implying that this trip was getting in the way. He even asked if I could delay getting my things until August, after we agreed upon the date of July 17th, and I had changed my plane ticket to come back early to receive the truck. Upon arrival on the 17th, Joe constantly complained about his workers and let me know that he couldn't find anyone decent. He was slow and inefficient, spending a large portion of his time either answering his phone, making calls, or telling me stories about how feared and revered he was by the border agents or how badass he was when he was in the military (psychological tactics to try and make me feel intimidated). My boyfriend had to jump in and help unload the storage unit and carry things to the truck, or else we would have been there an extra 2-3 hours. After loading the truck, Joe presented me with a bill of $7600 CAD instead of the agreed $6000 CAD, adding $1200 for mileage and gas and $400 for taxes. When I questioned him, he threatened to unload the truck and leave my belongings on the road if I didn't pay. Under duress, I paid the extra $400. On the day of the move: Joe texted me at 6:39 am saying he was 5 hours out but arrived 4.5 hours late at 3:11 pm. He arrived with one other person because he couldn't find another worker with a passport and complained about having to move items himself, which he said he no longer does. Half of the items meant for my apartment were packed at the front of the van. Joe agreed to return to my apartment after the storage unit drop-off with the items he didn't want to find. Inside my apartment, he didn't have any tools to assemble my bed as promised, so I had to provide my own and help his worker, Hammas, while Joe berated him and did nothing. At the storage unit, I ended up moving half the furniture myself because Joe and Hammas were slow and unorganized. Joe stayed in the truck for the first few hours, complaining about how long it was taking. Around 7:00 pm, Joe abruptly decided to leave, citing low blood sugar, and left my furniture in the street, parking lot, and hallway. My boyfriend had to leave work to help me, and we didn't finish in time, resulting in a $100 fine for being locked in the storage facility. I have filed a credit card dispute for not completing the job, abandoning my items, not delivering items back to my apartment as agreed, attempting extortion, and the time and effort my boyfriend and I had to invest to finish the job. Save yourself the headache and find a reputable moving company. North Van Mover is not it. read more

The team was extremely professional - on time, courteous, quick, and treated our stuff with the same care we'd treat it with. I have used North Van Mover for three moves, both local and long distance in BC, each under difficult circumstances and Joe and his crew have been fantastic each time. They answer the phone right away, you get an estimate and reasonable dates, they're on time, they're knowledgeable and professional, they don't assume, they ask questions to make sure items being separated get to the right place, everything arrives on time and in perfect shape. Joe is always on top of everything, it is nice to deal with one person on the phone and his crew is superb. These guys were great! It started with Joe on the phone, who was up front about costs, and then the punctual crew. I was introduced to each of the three crew members, who were all polite, and then they all got down to their work. They had my possessions out the door in about 40 minutes, and at the new place (which they arrived at before I did), they put clearly marked boxes into the rooms they were meant for, and put the bags of frozen and refrigerated foods into the freezer and fridge respectively, at my request, and hung up the clothes that were bagged and on hangers. They set up my bed, and were done in no time at all, it seemed. In fact, they were gone before I got there myself, they were so quick. It cost about what I had anticipated, and I will definitely go with this company again if I find myself in need. read more

I chose North Van Movers and paid for both packing and unpacking services to move my belongings from my family home to Gabriola Island. Despite promising that the packing would be done in advance, it wasn't. This resulted in my needing to leave before my house was completely packed. Joe underestimated the amount needing to be packed so an extra truck was used. The vans arrived on Gabriola without time to unpack, so despite paying for this service, I had to do it myself, and live with boxes deposited everywhere. My most valuable art pieces are missing. Those art pieces are the reason I wanted professional packing for my move! A box containing 2 Tibetan tankas, and 3 additional original oil paintings is missing!! I have contacted Joe twice and received absolutely no response about my missing items. So today I am writing this complaint. I certainly hope that the Better Business Bureau can get a response to my complaints. The fact is that Joe asked me to pay for additional ferry trips and hourly rates over and above the full sum for packing and unpacking [which I'd already paid], as part of bringing a crew back to Gabriola to unpack the boxes. The fact is that 5 valuable pieces of art that were in my house on the day of the move I contracted with Joe at North Van Movers disappeared from my life as part of the move. read more

North Van Mover moved us from the west end to Burnaby in mid-October. Unfortunately one of the crew reeked of alcohol and was pretty unstable on his feet. One of our tables was broken, perhaps because he dropped it. In any case we have twice requested reimbursement with a promise that "the cheque is in the mail," but two months later and still no cheque. For that reason I can't recommend them. read more

This is a long overdue review. I had hired North Van Mover back in April for a residential move. He was very professional in our emails and phone calls back and forth. Unfortunately, on the day of the move, he was running behind as one of his clients before me had a lot more stuff than expected. I was very pleased that he kept me updated throughout the wait. Towards 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon, he realized that he would not make it to our move on time and quickly contacted another moving company to help me. Well in advance of my move to the Sunshine Coast, I contacted North Van Movers, who claim to specialize in difficult moves and in moves to the Sunshine Coast. I asked for a flat rate quote as I stated I did not want to be ripped off by yet another mover. Joe, the owner, could at any time have come to view the degree of belongings I had to move and he never requested this. Instead he gave me a quote of $1250 to move the contents of my apartment to the Sunshine Coast. He said a 2 ton truck would do--I have no expertise in this area and assumed he knew what he was doing. On moving day he began to balk at the amount of things I have to move. I have a normal amount of belongings and had purchased a few extra things (including a bathtub) to move while I had access to a truck. Joe sent young and not very experienced movers. I was continually subjected to comments of "how much stuff" I have throughout the day by Joe. The young movers were nice enough guys and my complaint is not really with then. Thy were careless with a few things and some of my belongings were damaged (file cabinet, plants) and some things were left on my neighbour's property. The truck Joe provided did not fit my belongings. I believe this is the scam that he runs. I would bet he has done this to people before. Then the threats and stressful phone calls started. He actually said to me when half of my things were still in Vancouver "Well do you want me to just leave your stuff here and you deal with it yourself?" This is on a weekend at the end of the month. He knew there was absolutely no way I could get a truck ( I was in Gibsons) and get someone to take up the job he had agreed to do for a flat rate months before. Then he put the screws to me. He changed the original quote from $1250 to $1600 AND demanded a whole new move cost for the second trip. All told the move cost $2550, over $1000 more than the original quote. The entire process was stressful and unnecessary. This guy calls himself an expert mover. Why then does he not provide an accurate quote. He could have come and viewed my things and provided a 5 ton truck. I think this is his schtick, how he robs people of their hard earned money during a stressful time. Do NOT use this company--under ANY circumstances. You are better off to rent a truck and hire a few guys to help. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I have never had such a bad customer service experience. The movers were one hour late with no apology either from them or the owner (Joe) on the phone, who was extremely rude the whole way through. I understand that movers can't control schedules exactly, so the problem was not with them being late, but with how it was handled. We booked the 2 hour minimum (as required) for a job that only took only 1 hour, but suddenly they wanted to charge us 3 hours, telling us *that* was the minimum even though that's not what we were told when we made the booking. After insisting that we had never agreed to the 3 hours, they tried to charge us an extra half hour for transit, which was also not told to us when we made the booking. Again, this job took 1 hour, we were already paying for 2 as agreed, and they tried everything to add more charges. The job was from a storage locker to an apartment 5 minutes away, everything was packed, it was a simple job. When I told the owner we were not going to pay the additional charges they were making up, he hung up on me! We had to insist on an invoice at the end of the job, which became another issue because they had to rewrite it, but was given to us at the end. I still have a bad taste from this experience and wouldn't wish it on anyone. read more
