This is one restaurant you cannot judge by its cover... or lack thereof. The building is located off Hwy 60/84 in pretty much the middle of nowhere. Unless you've read previous reviews or been tipped, you probably would not want to stop. But don't let the dismal exterior deter you. The Thai food is the best that you will find around. In fact, it's not just good per Clovis standards, but the food could compete with some Thai joints that I've been to in Seattle. Keep in mind, however, that mild isn't in Saeng's vocabulary. If you order hot, your mouth better be prepared for fire. If you order mild, fire is still coming your way. The service was decent. It took us a while for our food to come out and we were the only ones in the place, but I wasn't in a hurry so I didn't mind. The owner and workers are very straightforward but polite and friendly. I had the combination lo mien which had the noodles with vegetables, chicken, shrimp, beef, and pork. I chose the hot level for spiciness and had to sign a waiver for it as it was that hot. If you're not used to eating very spicy hot food just order a mild but if you're looking for extreme heat then this is definitely the place for you. read more

Don't just drive by, stop and eat! This place is unassuming from the outside, but feels like home inside. I ordered the Beef Pad Thai, and it didn't take long to cook at all. The lady working the front desk was super friendly, and gave my daughter a fortune cookie to take home. The Pad Thai is DELICIOUS! Perfectly seasoned, and I did not get any spice. SAENG brings the HEAT! I love this place. One of the few restaurants I can rely on to not make my so requested dish "candy ass" hot. SAENG is growing her own ghost peppers! The place itself looks it would blend in flawlessly with a trailer park in West Virginia.. however do not let this camouflage fool you. Inside this gruff exterior resides the perfect alchemical blend of Thai flavor and fire that awaits your stupid mouth. At the extra hot level I must pause halfway through the dish to recover before fiercely shoveling the rest of the masterpiece in my face. I dig that when you walk in, you can look right into Saeng's ghetto kitchen and witness her magicking up the next dish. I also dig that when I request something special she gets mad and grumpily yells at the cashier... this amuses me greatly. As for recommendations, my list would include: jalapeno lumpio, pad Thai, panang curry, ginger curry, and the green curry are my favorites. My family and I tried out this restaurant and it was very challenging. There was no one around to greet us and we had to yell "Hello, is anyone here?!" To get someone to come out from the back. Once we ordered, the owner (I'm thinking that's who is was) came out from the back and started cooking. The food was very fresh, but I had ordered a very MILD Pad Kee Mau and it was VERY VERY SPICY. It was so spicy, I had to stop eating it and wasn't able to enjoy the dish anymore. Not only that, what I had eaten ultimately sent me "running" to the bathroom! My stomach was twisting and turning. I really wish I knew that pork was the meat of choice for the house noodle soup special. I've always had beef and beef meatball as protein of choice from other restaurants. AND at Saeng's for the last 3 years, up until the other day. Grant it, the last time I had been here up until yesterday, was in November of 2011. Good broth, that's why I come back. And for those saying it's dirty, poor decor, etc... Clovis is on the East of NM, 10 minutes from the Texas border, and a very small town. Why change what still sells? This place seems to be a staple for those at Cannon AFB. Don't let the modest exterior fool you, this place is good. We came with our 4 year old and just ordered Thai staples: Pad Thai and Chicken Fried Rice. We were aptly warned that the "mild" is an 8/10 in spicy. We took her word for it, and had mild for the noodles and "no spice" for the rice. The portions were GINORMOUS. It came out piping hot and fresh. The rice was so good my 4 year old ate it happily. The pad Thai was different, but there was a magical poached egg under the noodles, soaked in sauce, that was the best surprise. The mild was plenty spicy and delicious. I've never been to a Thai restaurant that turns it into a joke and puts as much hot pepper as they possibly can into it. I'm sure they got a chuckle about that. It becomes inedible at that point, unless you have an iron stomach. Out of the two times I've been, the food has been extremely oily and the beef is super tough. This place is a hidden gem. My friend and I stopped here on a road trip on our way to the Grand Canyon and it was the best stop we could have made. It doesn't look like much from the outside and the interior is not exactly pretty, but it's an extremely authentic Thai feeling, complete with Thai karaoke on the TV at the front, with the owner singing happily along. You're basically in their house being treated to a homecooked meal. And the portions are magnificent! If you order curry, it will take about 45 minutes because they cook it from scratch and it takes time to reduce the coconut milk -- but it's so freaking good when it's done. If you're concerned, call them up in advance to let them start before you get there. Bonus points for the server, who if you chat to him, tells you he's Japanese and raised in Tokyo but also spent some time in Germany. Lots of neat cultural exchange in a very unlikely setting! I went here with coworker. He has the buffet version which has varieties from beef broccoli to chicken curry and soup. I had the daily special for Thursday, Spicy chicken over rice and a egg roll. I asked for medium spicy and she delivered. The customer service is pretty fast because I got my food less than 5 minutes, or maybe I got there at the right time. There was dust EVERYWHERE, including on our table. The soy sauce and hot sauce had old dried food and sauce all of the lid. The steamed rice had brown burnt chunks in it. If you have the time the food takes about 30-45 mins to receive it. The crab Rangoon, jalepano rolls, and the hot and sour soup are amazing!! The owner is cracks us up, we love the staff as well. We ignored the negative reviews and hoped for the best. After a 15 minute drive we picked up our to go order and drove back to the hotel. Our 5 and 8 year old were excited about their pad Thai. My husband told me he had to sign a waiver for the spice level he requested, fair enough it's his taste buds and he loves spicy. All three dishes turned out to be "burn off your tastebuds, face numbingly spicy". Dripping with oil that probably isn't fit for human consumption! The food is very good and the price is right. The old saying "be careful what you wish for" definitely applies here when ordering your food spicy. The place is not the cleanest. Some of the staff isn't the nicest. My friend walked in and when the door didn't shut by itself an employee walked over and asked if he was raised in a barn. She may have thought she was being funny but it came off as very rude. Then, on top of that they were out of Thai iced tea. I have been to this restaurant many times. Their menu features Thai and Chinese food. I like their Chinese food more than their Thai. They have a few appetizers and soups. They have my favorite hot and sour soup. The food is the best part of this restaurant. You get to choose how spicy you want your food. You can choose "No Hot", "Mild", "Medium", "Hot", and "X-Hot". In my experience, the "No Hot" is spicy enough. One of my friends ordered "X-Hot" and got terrible stomach pains and had bathroom problems later. Their service is not so great. You should expect to be seated right away but you will have to wait about 15-20 minutes before you actually get to order your food. (If you are really hungry, order an appetizer.) You will then have to wait about 25-40 minutes for your food. You definitely don't want to go here if you have a time constraint. The location is also not so great. It's located near an Air Force base and the parking lot is very small. Most dishes cost around $9.00, but some are more expensive. If you don't have to be somewhere else, I recommend going here if you want some good Thai and Chinese food. read more
