I just had lunch with my wife at Shogun in Clovis. Every time I go in I order broccoli beef and cow pow chicken with fried rice. It's always excellent. I went in today. Had the same thing. My broccoli beef was OK when I got to the cow pow chicken. It was off. I end up going to the bathroom and to get it back out. A manager came over I explained to her what happened. She brings me the ticket. They didn't comp my broccoli, beef and cow pow meal. They just took the two dollars extra off for the chicken and I didn't even eat all of my broccoli beef. They charged me 14.99 for the broccoli beef. I didn't hardly eat that was on a plate of spoiled cow pow chicken. I went ahead and paid it and told them I'll never be set foot in there again. The place was a little dark. The waitresses did a good job of refilling our drinks. Loved that they let us pick our seats. The food was good and the portions were average. The Filet Mignon was amazing. Way better than the normal steak. My son got the normal steak and it was a huge difference. The only suggestion would be to have a little more veggies. Amazing experience!! The interior design makes it feel like you are stepping into a portal to the far east! Very immersive experience. The staff were friendly and attentive and the Hibachi chef was extremely talented and also a great entertainer who made the whole family laugh and stay engaged through the entire process. I took my family to Shogun for Easter dinner. We were charged for something we didn't receive and the lady owner still made us pay for the side of shrimp we didn't receive. The chef whom is the owners son or husband both argued with us in the front with other customers present about the shrimp we didn't receive. 16 shrimp for 2 plates isn't 2 orders or worth $12. The food was over cooked and made us all sick. The steak definitely wasn't ribeye. it was tough and difficult to chew. This place has gone down hill with food and service! I'm adding a star from my last review. Lately, I seem to end up being with a group that wants to eat here even though I don't really ever want to. The last few visits had better hibachi shows. Food is still unabashedly generous on the butter, oil, sugar, salt content so I recommend telling the chef to keep it low or order something from the menu that isn't hibachi. ROTTEN SUSHI THAT IS EXPIRED!!! We come into the restaurant it was fine. However, if you are experienced in eating sushi, they try to sly by giving the wrong fish which is white TUNA! We ordered hamachi which is supposed to be yellow tail fish. Then, when taking a bite, it was so disgusting. Rotten and even the fish was grey and brown. Sushi is not even supposed to have a smell to it. It smelled sososo bad! The smell stayed on my fingers. I asked to talk to the manager after the smell and taste was so bad. She was nice enough to take it off our Bill and take it away. However, I'm giving a bad review due to a servers comment that it was all they had in stock was white tuna. Which is NOT what we ordered and she said that it was supposed to look like that. I get that she does not get paid enough to care, but if we are paying a $100 bill within a restaurant, we expect what we paid for. No excuses. There are a few Shogun restaurants around LA, so seeing such a familiar restaurant name in Clovis was pretty reassuring. And seeing the many cars in the parking lot on a Friday night was also reassuring. We weren't able to get a table in any of the grill rooms, so we just sat outside of the rooms. So when the restaurant is this packed - expect the food (if ordering from the grill menu) to take awhile to come. The first thing my friends and I noticed upon sitting down at the table were the pretty annoyed looks on the other customers' faces. When we overheard some of them asking the waitress how much longer their order would take, we were a little hesitant on whether or not we should stay. But we weren't in a rush - we did see a few customers walk out/ask for the check before getting all of their food because the wait was just too long. So the menu - they have a section on rolls and sushi, teppanyaki, wok items, and various drinks. I wasn't too sure on the sushi items, especially in regards to how fresh the fish was. I stuck with the teppanyaki grill items. Food: -Hibachi chicken: $13.99 and comes with vegatables, shrimp appetizer, salad, soup, garlic noodles, and steamed rice. I didn't think it was too bad. I know a lot of people mentioned how sweet the food seemed to taste, but I didn't taste the sweetness when eating the chicken. Flavors were pretty decent - not the best, but definitely satisfied my hunger. The vegetables were nothing special - mostly zucchini and onions. Not a big fan of the garlic noodles - preferred the white rice way more. Shrimp was not too bad as well. The salad and soup that it came with were good starters to the meal. My friends ordered the vegetable plate (no shrimp included) $11.99 and the susiyaki steak $15.99. They say their steaks are fresh, never frozen and hand cut on premises daily. Not sure how true that is, but I did like the steak the most out of the three plates we had tried. Vegetable plate was nothing special. Basically paying a pretty high amount for no meat, but a bunch of various vegetables like zucchini, broccoli, mushroom, bell pepper. My friend also paid $2.49 extra to change the steamed rice to fried rice. She thought it was pretty good. The steak plate was the best out of the three! The steak had good flavor, was tender, and pretty tasty. I did think it was a tad bit too sweet, but I only tried a few pieces. My friend also ordered 2 rolls - tempura shrimp roll and caterpillar jr roll? I'm not sure but she said they were just okay. There were 8 pieces in each one, but the rolls looked pretty tiny. Prices for those rolls were also well over $10. Not worth it. They have decent martinis and drinks. I liked that you can order a various number of sauces to go with your food. Not that I was a big fan of the sauces. Service was lacking. The most responsive was when it came time for the check. tl;dr - Food is not bad, but I think the prices are a bit too high for the quality of food when you can get something much better elsewhere. I would not recommend trying the sushi rolls, but if you want to splurge and order the steak plate, it might be pretty good. This was some of the worst flavored "Asian" food we've ever eaten. We ate here passing through town. Our server was so nice. I felt so sorry for her. I wish her nothing but the best. She deserves so much more. Nothing about the food was good. It was not clean and I just cannot stress enough how unauthentic it was. All of it tasted boxed and microwaved. This place is exceptional. The food was AMAZING. There was a wait for the table side hibachi, so we ate in the main section of the restaurant. Embarrassingly, I am a picky eater, but I loved all the food and ate until I was stuffed. I had the chicken & steak hibachi, but also had a bite of my friend's salmon. YUM! It is important that I recognize the exceptionally attentive staff. The team taking care of us were: Kevin (our server, who also has a witty sense of humor), Majies, Angelina, & Keyana (I'm not sure which positions the ladies hold). They were constantly checking in on us to make sure we didn't need anything and that everything was good. I cannot sufficiently emphasize how attentive they were! I really hope the owners appreciate their staff because the service we received is not easy to find, especially in a small town. People go to restaurants for the food, but will return for the service. FYI: This place isn't budget friendly. Expect to pay $30+ per head. It's 100% worth it if it's within your budget. read more

I arrived here on a Saturday at 12:09pm. Should be busy. There's a few people, but not many. Each grill is in a 'room' by itself. Strange. The walls are dirty and the room is dark and sort of seedy. For what I spent i felt I received good bang for my buck. As you get alot of food. They ask if you want rice... but they dont tell you its extra. The hibachi steak was cooked medium, which was juicy and flavorful as I anticipated. The serving size was big enough for me not to finish, which is rare. The sushi was also good, I didn't want to venture out too much as I was a little skeptical but it was just as simple and clean tasting as I needed it to be (California, cucumber, avocado). Great experience going with our toddler 11am on a Sunday (opening time). First Impressions Inside lobby/first dining room is SO cute. There's an indoor pond and fountain with fish - lots of fun for our 2yo. Booths line the room and looks like a good option if you decide not to do grill table. Hibachi Rooms We elected to do a grill instead of a regular table. I thought we'd have to wait for the table to fill up (standard practice at most hibachi places), but they were kind enough to start serving us after a minimal wait (couldn't be more than 5mins). I've seen other reviews complain about the grill tables being in individual rooms, but as a mom with an unpredictable toddler, I appreciated the privacy. The walks looked a little dingy. But the table, plates and utensils were all clean. Hibachi Experience Cook was super nice. He didn't have a ton of tricks, but he did the corny "egg roll" joke and the onion volcano. Plenty enough show for toddler and us. Food Both adults got steak & chicken combo, steak med-well. And kiddo got kids chicken which came with fried rice but no veg (there's the standard carrots & peas in the rice though). Hibachi lunch comes with plenty enough food: a soup starter and side of fried rice. We also got a side salad (basic iceberg lettuce but all fresh, no wilted or bad leaves) and side noodles (because... toddler!). Everything tasted good, and steak cooked as ordered. Overall good job. This review is based on the hibachi, not the sushi. I am not a fan of eating sushi anywhere that does not have a ocean nearby. As for the hibachi, it is really good, but it is not good for you. If you can live with that, awesome. I have been to several hibachi places in our travels and this one is pretty good. The chefs do a good job of entertaining groups and the food tastes really good. They do use a lot of salt and sugar so if you are on a diet this is not the place for you. The service is good, and the atmosphere is what you would expect. It is a fun treat for a Saturday night.
