Its 2026 and I went here in 2024... My wife and I love to eat Thai food. We've eaten Thai food in multiple states over the last decade. This is the one place we look back at and dream to get an order of Pad Thai at.. the few months we lived in Portales, there's nothing really to do but walk around Walmart or get some Thai food. We must've went here 8 times.. Order: Pad Thai 2 or 3 spice level and egg rolls... YUM We only did takeout so I can't speak about inside the restaurant but it was the best part of our time in Portales. 100/10 read more

My daughter and I have been to Thai City for years and when I go, I always order the Won Ton Soup and it comes with the chips which i absolutely love. My daughter went to the Portales establishment and I did not go so I told her to order me the Won Ton Soup and make sure the chips are added and they told my daughter it would be between 3 to 4 dollars extra. I told my daughter, it automatically comes with it and she said they are now under different owners. I told her then I will not be ordering from their business again. I have gone to several establishments in my life and the chips are always part of the soup and now this establishment are choosing to charge me. Prices don't match websites prices. Had to go back because I got steamed rice not fried rice. Usually something small is fine but when it happens alot without price matching off website out of customer loyalty or at least small discount offered until fixed it maybe the promise only of that the process will be fixed. I'm finding this alot around town so check to make sure. They charged an average of $$2.50 more power rice entree which hurts more when ordering for more than two people or more. Hope this changes. I know times are hard but fairness goes along way these days. We are new to the area and took a chance on this place for something different... we will definitely be back. We ordered a spring roll (perfection, crispy but not greasy, so flavorful, so good) an order of crab cheese wonton (amazing), pad Thai, and chicken hibachi. The entrées were both delicious and fresh, even after our 20 minute drive home, and the portions were huge, enough for 2 meals at least. The people were so nice. Cannot say enough about this place! I've had Thai City several times now and it never disappoints. I'm always amazed at their large menu- which I was skeptical of at first. But I've tried their curries, pad Thai, habatchi etc and have never had something I didn't love. I'm so glad to have this place in Portales. The only thing they need to improve (and we tell them this every time we go) is their online menus. Which are essentially just photos you have to find on f Facebook. Pro tip: ENMU people get 10% off. read more

There really aren't too many places in Portales that allow you to get a diverse number of choices, but thank goodness that the restaurants that do offer a different type of cuisine make their food relatively well. Thai City offers both Thai and Japanese food, but I wouldn't recommend ordering the sushi - stick with the Thai dishes. It's located on 2nd Street right before you hit ENMU. The restaurant gets busy during dinner hours, and there's always a lot of to-go orders which really says something. The one thing I really love from Thai City is their thai tea. Tastes super legit and authentic to the ones I find at boba shops back in LA. The only thing that's missing is the boba, so I bought my own to add to the tea whenever I get it. Really smooth, a bit on the sweet side, but it really hits the spot when you drink it along with the food. I've ordered it several times when dining in, and sometimes I got a free refill from the waitress and other times I didn't, so I'm not too sure what their in-house drink refill policy is, but it's worth the $2.99 or so. Guey Tiew Hang: The Royal Rhai noodles with the addition of pork, chicken or beef was an interesting dish that reminded me of the Chinese noodle dishes. I think seeing the words "guey tiew" made me reminiscent of the noodles back at home, so I gave it a try. $8.49 for a pretty big portion - I tried it with pork and was pretty happy with the quantity of pork given. Taste was decent, but I had to add Sriracha to give the overall dish a little more flavor. Pad Kee Mao: Same price as the previous dish with the same meat options. My friend ordered this once and fell in love with the dish, ordering it several times after. It definitely reminds me of the Asian beef chow fun noodles in HK restaurants. There's much more flavor (the noodles are much darker) and "wok hey". I think beef tastes the best with this dish; highly recommend! I think my friend also ordered the Pad Thai on its own with a bowl of rice. It was a bit too salty and probably would have been tastier if it had been cooked with the thicker noodles, but the taste was not too bad. Another friend ordered the sweet and sour chicken - it looked pretty good when it came out. Golden brown and lightly fried large chunks of chicken with sweet and sour sauce on the side. But my go-to dish after discovering it was the Tom Yum Noodle Soup. $8.49 - a big bowl of noodle soup with chicken, shrimp, ground peanuts, and a few other ingredients. Really missed this, and since it's not something I can easily whip up in my kitchen with the minimal ingredients I can pick up from Wal-Mart, it's definitely a good treat every so often. There was a decent amount of noodles as well as the chicken and shrimp, but the winner of the dish is the soup! A bit spicy, a bit sour - super happy when I take my first sip! Workers are all super friendly and nice, but sometimes it does take awhile before you can flag somebody down. tl;dr - Highly recommend if you're looking for something different to eat in Portales! Thai City serves up quality Thai food (not so much Japanese food). Recommend the Pad Kee Mao and Tom Yum Soup ... and of course the Thai tea! read more

This place is the WORST. Cook doesn't know how to cook. Or cook is having a f..ked up day. All dishes I ordered , you will taste nothing but salt. Too much salt. I am an asian and I know thai food well. Didnt expect much bcuz it is a really small town in NM. Fell sorry for the people live in this town. Friendly and quick staff. Greasy and backwards delivery of my food. Had dinner with a couple friends here. We all ordered sushi and one of their dinner plates each. Drinks came out first and within a couple minutes of ordering. Then after about 20 minutes the dinner plates came. We all kind of look at each other because we were used to the sushi coming out before the dinner plates. I'm not sure about the other two meals but mine was a bit greasy. We all took our time in hopes and to save room for the sushi to come out. 10 maybe 15 minutes after the plates came out, the sushi was delivered and we devoured our respective rolls. After that the universe was in harmony. I'm not sure if I will be back anytime soon but if I do I will make sure to tell them to bring my roll out first and order a different item that's not as greasy/oily. read more

We're driving from Ruidoso, NM to Carbondale IL. We decided that Portales was a good place for a late lunch. We are sooo happy we chose Thai City for that stop! The girl at the counter directed us to sit wherever we liked (it was not busy at all at 2p.m.). She came and brought us menus immediately and took our drink orders; she gave us a few minutes to look over the very extensive menu then was back for our orders. I chose the Dragon Noodle dish with beef, carrots, broccoli, green pepper and slices of avocado. I was delighted with my food! Everything was very fresh and cooked to perfection, albeit a tad salty... but still very good. My husband chose the Pad Bai Kra Poa (Thai Basil) with pork, straw mushrooms, jalapeño, onion and green pepper served with stir fried rice (rice was a bit bland) and was also happy with his chose,the spice level was exactly to his taste and very well prepared. Our food came out within a few minutes of ordering. It was delicious and the serving was so large that we enjoyed it for supper later that night! read more

I have to say this first--this is a lazy restaurant! When I walked in, there were no kidding, 5 tables that were not cleaned yet, and 2 employees sitting at what I am guessing is the employee table. I had the table right next to the "employee" table. As I was waiting to decide what I wanted to eat, my server sat at this table, right next to me. That was very odd. For a good thing when I was ready to order all I had to do was look over and say , I am ready to order--3 feet away. Sorry I interrupted her texting! My Moo Goo gi Pan was good--tasty. I see for sure that the talent is in the back of the house--what is in the front is not worth state low wage. They are walking slowly, on their cell phones, and really don't care about customers. I should give this place a -12 star rating.The service has been awful, we waited 10 minutes for our drinks which were two flavored teas, have been waiting an additional 45 minutes and counting at this point for food. Mind you we ordered appetizers and two entrees. No appetizers, no entrees. Waitress keeps telling ya the kitchen is "really backed up". 2 tables beside us have received their orders and one of those tables have a check and are about to leave. Other table has 6 people and everybody's appetizers and orders have been rolling out. I'm about to spazz tf out, y'all. People out here eating and we are starving (mind you I was at the gym prior to coming here so I am hungry!). Let's see how much longer we will wait, or if I have to walk out of here hungrier than I came in. So I walked out after a table of 2 that came in significantly after us received their appetizer. Cooks and people working in the kitchen are extremely unsanitary. No masks on any employees. Watched as the man peeling shrimp coughed over and over without covering his mouth. Watched him walk away and come back chewing on something. And he proceeded to pick at something in his teeth with his bare hands and continued working. Pros: located on the west bound 2nd street. Gives the area some tastes that previously were unavailable in dine-in environments or within a reasonable driving distance. Some good options. Cons: sadly, so much wrong. First off, this con equates to more of an experience, but I couldn't think of any way to approach it. Either this is a system issue or an absurd coincidence involving cashier negligence. My wife picked up a quick lunch during her break, went back to work yada yada, came home, checked her bank and saw a double charge. This wouldn't be too bad if it didn't happen more than once. Not only that, but I was actually present picking something up and the individual before me who had just dined and and returned was there for a double charged card also. This individual refused to leave unless she could be presented a receipt of returned funds and not just a verbal promise. My wife and I gave them a few chances. The menu is probably the worst part as it is a beast of a me Growing up in Portales, I suppose it was 'about-time!' this area had a Southeast Asian place to eat, seeing as all there have been were two Chinese buffets, one that came and went and was moved into later on and a current that has seen one resent owner change as of 2014. This restaurant is located in the long-open yet not-so long closed Dairy Queen. Summary, check your receipts and cc or debit card charges thoroughly, and be ready to strain your eyes skimming the menu that requires thai dish experience or at least 10 minutes allotted reading time. read more
