First time trying Saccone's, last minute order to be delivered. It was good. Greek salad, wings (hot) and pizza (order my own combo), and all was delivered in about 30 minutes. Piping hot! I was shocked by how hot the wings and pizza were. The negative on the salad... the dressing was already on it. I did not see a "dressing on the side" option when ordering. If I'm the restaurant, I would always put the dressing on the side for a to go or delivery order... just me! The wings were good, just wings, no batter... fried crispy and the sauce was good and hot (spiciness). The pizza was also good, nice thin crust. A tad soggy in the middle, but that could be because it sat in a box on the counter for 30 minutes while I ate the wings and salad. All in all, a good meal, delivered quickly! Look Before You Leave, actually before you pay. I ordered a pizza, and picked it up about the time they said it was going to be ready. I got in my car and left. My drive home is about 8 minutes away. About half way home I looked at the pizza and thought it looked strange, not the typical pizza I've gotten from there. The pizza looked like it had been sitting around for a half hour or more. The crust was hard, the sauce was cold and the cheese was hard and not warm to the touch. In general it was Not a freshly made pie. I was so excited to get my NY style pizza from one of the best pizzeria's in the area and likely in Texas. I called them and expressed my concern, and in no uncertain terms was told it was freshly baked. I am still a fan, and when everything goes right, it should be 5 star. I'm being kind here, as I was very disappointed with my order tonight. I ordered a Stromboli over the phone. The person I spoke with acted as if she had never heard the word "Stromboli," so she put me on hold while someone helped her figure it out. She confirmed that my order had been placed as I requested. I picked up my order, brought it home, and it was not a Stromboli, but a Calzone (very different - and I did not want a Calzone - just dough and cheese - I wanted a Stromboli - various meats, onions, peppers, mushrooms, etc.). It was late, I was very hungry, so I just ate it. Next time I order from Saccones, I will open my order and check it before I leave. I know there is a shortage of good help. It was evidenced this evening. This person was not "good help." And whoever helped her decide to give me the wrong order is responsible as well. This is a management issue. Managers need to hold employees responsible for something as simple as knowing what a Calzone is and what a Stromboli is. Sorry for the rough review. Saccones has some really good pizza. SACCONE? This place has been a long time favorite of our family. We first tried the 620/lakeline and got addicted to it. We now live in Leander and use the Hero Way location. Every time I go in there, there are all new faces. Over the years we have eaten a large garbage pie 1/2 one way n half another: 1st half minus the banana peppers Add jalapeños Add green olives This makes a supreme. On the other half, pepperoni, mushroom, and onion. Extra sauce all over. Last time I went there, the guy said they couldn't half the pizza. I wasn't t happen about it but I said ok. Tonight, SMH, was horrific. Three different times of trying before they got it right. I still got charged full price for no extra sauce and a cold pizza. Wasn't the best pizza. But wasn't the worst. They have two sizes. We got the smaller size. Got one of their speciality. Ended up being $30. We had a coupon and left tip. We came in and was told nothing other than pizzas could be made because their cook didn't come in. Glad I didn't come for pasta or hot sub. Pizza tasted ok- but there are so many options for pizza in the area and this one just missed the mark. Meatballs aren't made there but come out of a box. Ok for regular chain pizza but when you're trying to stick out as a specialty shop, that's not impressive. I have been to Jersey and loved the pizza there! Since 1997, Saccone's Pizza & Subs has offered highly praised, authentic, New Jersey-style pizza at various locations in and around North Austin. The latest incarnation just opened with a limited menu near Lake Creek Parkway and Research Boulevard (not too far from their late '90s location, right next to Goya Sushi and Fresh Heim) and I'm happy to report, they've still got it, baby! We called in (512-257-1200) our weekend lunch order today during COVID-19 madness, and were so happy to hear our 2 pies and 1 order of pepperoni rolls would be ready in about 15 minutes. I arrived to find the small storefront's counter service area busy with customers, about 4 others of whom were in on the low-key soft opening and awaiting their own boxes of pizza heaven. My pizza was just as I had remembered: fragrant with a yeasty aroma, crispy on the bottom, bubbly and chewy on the top, with just the right ratio of sauce to cheese, foldable enough that the large slice doesn't droop down at the point. This is the way a New Jersey-style thin crust pizza should taste and why chef Daniel Saccone so often wins awards in international pizza competitions. There is (for the most part) only one size, 18 inch round, but you can choose from either original or signature sauce. Plain cheese starts at $15.50, with toppings going for $1.50 (whole pizza) or $1 (half the pizza) and "gourmet" toppings for $0.50 more. Specialty topping combo pies go from $17 to $23.50 depending on how wild you wanna get. Oh, and there's a 17 inch square Sicilian thick crust pan pizza if you need a break from thin crust. You can also order regular pizza by the slice starting at $2.50 (but you're going to need 3 at least). Calzones are $8 and pizza rolls come 4 to an order for $7. While they are working to build out the full kitchen for preparation of pastas, sandwiches, and salads, the Saccone's team decided to go ahead and open now for take-out orders of pizza, calzones, pepperoni rolls, and cannoli, basically anything they can produce with their high temperature pizza oven. They expect to roll out the full menu by mid-April, assuming all goes well with permitting. From my chat with the friendly lady who received my phone order and the nice guy behind the counter, it sounds like they will be focused on delivery and take-out orders from this location, while the Leander store will carry the bulk of the dine-in business. Apparently they don't want business. We've always used the Hero Way location, but it's been a while. Went online Saturday night to order a pizza for pickup. Got to the end of the order and there was no submit button. Tried a different browser, same thing. Did an internet search and found another website but for the same place (bizarre!) Same thing. Downloaded the app on my phone, but it wouldn't allow me to even get to the menu because it couldn't verify my address. One of the best pizzas around this area. I will admit, I air fry it a little longer because I love when it's crispy but it's sooo good and worth it. The ingredients seem high quality. Don't sleep on the wings. Ask/pay for extra wing sauce. The wings aren't crispy but the flavor is top notch. 100% would recommend every time! Saccone's promises a Jersey-style food experience, and I haven't been disappointed. That is, they do a pretty darned good NY/NJ style of pizza without too much Jersey attitude. (grin) I've visited them several times over the years at their old location down on 620 and Anderson Mill, so of course I had to try them out now that they've moved closer to me in Leander. In a word, the pizza's still good. They serve an 18" large pie, not the wimpy 14" large pie a certain national chain serves. (*cough cough Domino's cough cough*). They've also nailed the NYC-style thin, crispy crust and use a darned good grade of sausage. Thumbs up! That said, as of late July they're still getting their act together. It's hard to find their menu online, and I was unable to call my order in to the store (I tried again later and it went through, but others tell me they've had similar experiences.) Also, they're still getting the right permits to allow people to be served at the store for sit-down meals, and they're only offering a limited menu for take-out. Here's hoping that they get this all straightened out before the folks of Leander start going back to that place that serves 14" large pizzas! This place scores a 4 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Went here for the first and last time last night. Ordered a half pepperoni and half margherita pizza. They made it a half cheese and half margherita pizza with pepperoni on it. When I told them they made an error the lady behind the counter got super defensive and told me the order didn't say that. Didn't get her name but she was a real b. Instead of fixing the problem they decided the customer was wrong and said "deal with it not my problem." The window vinyl says "pizza with a jersey attitude." They're right! I usually don't like to write negative reviews but I'm hoping that this helps other families that might visit this restaurant. They don't offer a kids menu and the only water you can get, other than tap water, is a $3.00 bottle of water. They didn't even offer us cups. Luckily, we had some kids cups in the car to fill using the bottled water we purchased. My daughter was craving chicken piccata and wanted to stay close to the house. If you have either made this at home or ordered at a restaurant, you might be disappointed. The chicken is not breaded, and the sauce was not impressive. You might say, that's what you get at a casual restaurant, but they charged just as much as they do at the well known Italian restaurants. The spaghetti and meatballs were pretty decent and I had enough meatballs to share with two hungry kids and myself. Update 11/11/23 : still a terrible, god awful, horrible experience. I thought going inside would be better.. no. Just because the owner makes the best pizza doesn't mean his employees do. Attitude makes food. If you have someone with a bad attitude making th food it will be bad. The younger Mexican girl with dark hair in a sloppy bun was the most rude, non friendly, non customer oriented person I've come across in recent times. I can't actually think of a time that I've had a worse experience. The gentleman at the front was nice at first but kept throwing us under the bus when he made mistakes. We ordered an Alfredo calzone, a cheese pizza and a Philly. A few moments passed and then he told us the same Hispanic woman in the back said she wouldn't make it that way. We can't eat the marinara sauce too much it gives my husband heart burn. Anyway she made it a huge deal and we could hear and see her complaining with the most disgusted look on her face. Her energy brings the whole place down. I will never go back here. Food was sub par. Pizza slice was cold. We asked for it to go they brought it for there and then got mad when we reminded them it was to go. My friends and I came here for dinner the other night and I have mixed feelings about Saccone's. My first impression left a lasting poor image of this place because they don't serve water... What kind of restaurant doesn't offer water?? It's the most basic thing a food establishment can provide, but no, if you want any drink with your meal, you must purchase it. We ordered a large Pepperoni Pizza to share amongst the three of us and I was honestly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. The pizza was pretty good. A little greasy, but I loved the crust! It was also large enough to fill all three of us, so quantity was on point! Overall, I don't think I'd come back to dine in, but I'd certainly do take out.
