I ended up here because my Toshiba Laptop was having BIOS issues, according to Toshiba - this is a common problem in this model and it requires an update in the BIOS that will quickly solve the issue - Because the problem is a manufacturer problem - Any Authorized Toshiba Service Provider can do this work at no charge to the consumer-
So I did some research online and this place was "convenient" since it was on my way home -
The first they wanted to do was run an "analysis" of my system and because it is already out of warranty - this was going to cost $55.00
Fortunately, I had the printout from Toshiba where it says that this update will be performed at no cost to the consumer- When I produced the paper, it was all of a sudden OK -
The second problem I had was that I very nicely asked to be informed when I could expect to have the work completed, because I was in charge of providing the music for my office Christmas Party and I already some playlists ready but they were all in the computer- The lady at the front counter responded that the technician was currently out to lunch but that she would ask him upon his return and call me back to let me know. This was on Tuesday and my party was on Friday-
I called back on Wednesday, but the technician again was out to lunch, my inquiry was simply to let me know if I could reasonably expect to have it by Thursday since the party was on Friday or otherwise to simply let me know so I could make other arrangements-
I called back at 4PM and was told that they closed a 5 so there was nothing they could do then -
Finally at around 6 PM. I received a message from the technician letting me know that the work was completed -
I picked up the computer the next day but couldn't get it to work - So I went to work on plan b -
I fiddled with the laptop all weekend but it freezes up almost immediately after powering - or on the rare occasion that it lets me do something on it- The USB Ports don't work = DISCLAIMER - this was NOT the problem when I brought it in the first time-
So this morning, I stopped by and informed them that even though they fixed the BIOS issue (sort of) the computer was not working -
And of course, this time they saw the opportunity to NAIL ME ! and they tried - They now claim that this has nothing to do with the previous problem and therefore, they need to run a analysis and it is going to cost me ... you guessed ... $55.00 --
Mind you, I can fix the problem, I just don't have the time - but the issue here is that this problem was created by whatever they did to my laptop and they knew I was going to be back to be charged the proverbial $55.00 -
NO DICE !! I picked up my computer and will stay up late today fixing the problem - but these guys lost a costumer and everyone I know for that matter -
The first time, I let them slide on the basis that even though they did not deliver good customer service, it is almost expected from IT people to be somewhat deficient in social skills - so if they performed the service I needed, I was fully conscious that customer service is not their forte... but the Second time they just wanted to take me for a ride - and that is not cool. read more
