SAAM is a great flavor explosion and a good place for corporate dinners Everything in this meal is meant to be family style. The servers make it hard to make medications - for instance I wanted them to make my nonalcoholic Pandan Sprtiz be alcoholic (which isn't hard at al) but they said they couldn't accommodate the request. Food is good and very seafood heavy. Dessert menu could be expanded. The fish was highlight of the menu where you wrap it with lettuce and noodles. The prawns and clams curry was also impeccable.

I found out about this place through eater reviews and other folks and when I heard about the context behind, was super excited (sorry to say that I'm on the team of trying hyped restaurants)! we ordered a few things and were celebrating a late anniversary dinner. the service was quite good, and they were apologetic of some of the mains that came out late (funny to read about other folks service experience). tuna: the tuna dish itself was okay, the sauce is AMAZING but i would say that the ratios on this dish were a bit off, I think theres some kind of balance missing, and I wanted the fish to be cured perhaps? It felt like it was existing in the world of a crudo, but none of the finesse that you would expect from a high end dining restaurant (maybe im imposing western standards of food!?) the mains that we got were the wagyu beef curry (REALLY GOOD), wish tehre was more curry, the khao soi was a total disappointment, the noodles were clumping together and I just expected it to be more curry-y and saucy-y? the dessert of the mango sticky rice was GREAT. highly recommend, but the thai tea cheesecake was a bit of a flop. i've made a basque cheesecake of this style before, and it could've been more custardy, and didn't have any distinct tea flavor. overall, go in a bit, its also a bit pricey for the value

Really happy they opened this place its really good! I would def recommend the tuna its a trip. Also they make one of the best thai ice teas ive ever had. I do think the porkchop was a bit tough for being from SRF, ill probably go for the fish next time The service and ambiance were good and i like what theyve done for the ppace and what theyre bringing to the community.

Saam is a new spot in SOMA opened by Thai celebrity chef Thitid Tassanakajohn, and the vibe is bright, trendy, and modern. The menu features creative takes on traditional Thai recipes, and everything is meant for sharing. To start, the Nuea Dad Deaw were flavorful strips of sun-dried beef, served with E-sarn and sriracha sauces; and the Goong Tod Nam Pla Waan were lightly fried shell-on shrimp served with green mango salad on the side. All the curries were made with freshly-pounded curry pastes, and my favorite curry dish was the Gaeng Khaek Yawa 1939, made of juicy Bavette steak served over a thick Javanese curry, served with a side of roti (deep-fried flatbread). However, I wasn't such a fan of the Pad Ped Ped (duck curry with young coconut slices), as the curry paste was overwhelmingly spicy and masked the flavors of the other ingredients. From the large plates, the Khao Soi Haeng Seafood was stir-fried noodles in a Northern Thai curry sauce, mixed with local seafood including mussels, squid, and shrimp. But my favorite dish of all was the Pla Phao, a whole salt-crusted branzino served with lettuce/herbs, rice noodles, a tomato pla ra sauce, and a peanut seafood sauce--perfect for making wraps with the fish, which was so tender and delicious. On the side, we got the Garlic Broccolini and the surprisingly delicious Ka Lum Pad Nam Pla, stir-fried cabbage cooked with garlic and fish sauce. For dessert, we had the Thai Tea Cheesecake, a soft, fluffy slice of cheesecake flavored with Thai Tea flavor (so creative!); and the Mango Sticky Rice, which was topped with torched palm sugar meringue (making the dessert look like a lemon cream pie!). Overall, the food here was creative and definitely a hit--the prices were on the high side, but the service was super friendly and hospitable, and the vibe was trendy and energetic.

Located where Sun & Moon used to be! I found out about this place through Instagram and decided to give it a try and everything on the menu was really unique! The ambiance of the place felt very casual but the dishes gave it a fine dining twist. We ordered the Khao Soi Haeng Seafood, which is a brothless interpretation of the known Khao Soi soup noodle dish, and it wasn't bad but I still prefer the soup version since this one had too strong a flavor for me, and a little on the sweeter side. The squid was super soft and tender and I enjoyed the shrimp on it too. Also got the pad phed ped duck curry, and while it tasted amazing, it was REALLY spicy. The coconut helped to cut the spice a little bit but we needed to eat it with a lot of black sticky rice, which was harder than my liking. We also got the Ka Lin Pad Nam Pla (stir fried cabbage) and that was an excellent addition to the meal and definitely helped with the spiciness level. Lastly, we of course had to try the mango sticky rice meringue. It was not too sweet, but I wish the mango was more ripe or softer. It did help to have the meringue to balance out the tartness of the mango.

Overall synopsis: it's not there yet I've been eagerly awaiting eating here given the chef's pedigree. I tried not to get my hopes up but, even in doing so, it was a bit of a let down. Pros: dishes were unique and different. When they say spicy, it's actually spicy. Cons: the execution of the concepts needs work. Overall, I felt like the dishes were lacking definition and dimension. Ambience: nice but too loud Service: Lacking. Somewhat cold and distant. Either weren't knowledgeable about what they were serving or were not forthcoming with it. Presentation: Unremarkable. I had seen pics of the food beforehand on social media and featured on write ups that led me to believe that this was going to be a much more elevated dining experience than what was actually delivered. Drinks: Sauvignon blanc was good. Would have really enjoyed a nice Reisling option to go with the spiciness. Food: Som tum peaches - 3.5/5. Where were the peaches? Where were the shrimp? This dish seemed like it was mostly radish. Very spicy which i liked but with "peach" in the title was expecting some more sweetness to balance things out. $25 felt like a rip off if I could be perfectly honest. Garlic broccolini - 5/5. Great flavor. Would not change a thing. Definitely the best thing we ate. Root down duck - 3/5. Loved the actual flavor of the curry. The spice level was great! The rest of the dish just kind of got lost in it though. I didn't get any makrut lime leaf flavor at all. The coconut didn't really come through. I had no idea what finger root tasted like before I ate this dish and I still don't really. The duck was sliced too thin, fat not properly rendered. Honestly that could have been any protein in there and it wouldn't have made much of a difference. Khao soi seafood noodles. 2.5/5. This was a miss. Extremely one dimensional and unmemorable. Tasted like a not-amazing curry sauce on noodles with some so-so seafood. The squid(?) was chewy and tasted fishy. There were actually some tasty pickles off to the side that I didn't even know were there (no one explained the dish to us) that would have livened the dish up but by the time I discovered they were there, the noodles were already gone. Thai tea cheesecake- 2/5. Total fail. Personally I am of the opinion that even bad cheesecake is good, but, yeah...it was bad. The tea flavor didn't come through very well and the cake itself was dry and overbaked. It was a basque style cheesecake (no crust) and is supposed to be kind of gooey, almost custard like in the center. This was not that. The potential is absolutely there, but I feel like this menu needs a hard edit to get it to where it needs to be. Some of these dishes just aren't working, either from a conceptual or execution standpoint. Also the service needs quite a bit of work imho.

4.5 STARS SAAM had me at... "We will not bring down the heat...the dishes will as spicy as they need to be, as we eat in Thailand!" Whooo hoooo - bring on the GERD and burning booty hole! Opening Today, SAAM is from renowned, award winning Chef Ton Tassanakajohn who has two restaurants in Thailand: LE DU and NUSARA that hold Michelin stars and are regularly featured on the "World's 50 Best Restaurant List". Currently, open for dinner only with lunch service to come. M E N U A la carte menu featuring elevated, regional Thai Cuisine (family-style) using locally sourced ingredients. All sauces and curry pastes are made from scratch. Beer and wine only. TIPS: (1) IF you can't secure rezzies for your preferred day/time, get on Resy Notify. You'll receive a email when someone cancels their rezzie and it becomes available. (2) Located near Oracle Park, check the game schedule. Street parking will be rough and parking lots charge an inflated event fee (the one across the street was $60). F O O D * Tuna Za Jin: Akami w/ balakian tomato, crispy shallots, and Vietnamese coriander sauce ($35): https://tinyurl.com/44kzbk78 Nice palate opener with fresh [raw] tuna over ripen heirloom tomatoes with a creamy pesto-ish sauce. Mild flavors. * Goong Tod Nam Pla Waan: Gulf shrimps, crispy shallot, fried chili, mango salad ($32): https://tinyurl.com/yv3zx4ms One of our favs of the night, the fried shrimp has a crispy paper-thin shell with tender meat...tossed in a savory sweet, umami rich glaze that low-key reminds of nước chấm. Served with a refreshing and punchy green mango salad. * Pad Ped Ped: Root Down Duck w/ shrimp paste, finger root, kaffir leaf, and young coconut ($38): https://yelp.to/z3PNJfffrn Pounded by hand daily and cooked to order, the dry-style curry was rich, deeply aromatic, and layered with complex flavors. The skin-on, tender duck breast soaked up all the saucy goodness. I have a fairly high spice tolerance and would rate the heat around 5/10 on its own, or 7/10 if you eat the chilies. Pairing this with sticky rice is a must. * OM Pork Chop: Grilled Snake River Farm Pork Chop w/ northern-style Om sauce, shrimp paste, fermented fish sauce, basil, and Szechuan pepper ($49): - Default: Medium well (tried to request medium rare) Our least fav item, the lean pork chop was overdone, dry, and tasted unseasoned. Seemed pan seared, not grilled. The Isan sauce is a savory and herbacous curry which did the heavy lifting. IMO, this dish needs some tweaking and fine-tuning to stand out. And, a sharper knife is needed. * Sticky Rice ($5) Properly cooked but I wished it was served in something to keep it warm and moist. * Jasmine Rice ($3) * Mango Sticky Rice Meringue (Comped, Reg. $25): https://tinyurl.com/2pb8btat Our server graciously comped this dessert as an apology for the pork chop. Classic Thai dessert with a French twist, the coconut infused, chewy rice was topped with diced mangoes and crowned with torched meringue. Cloud-like and sweetened with jaggery from Thailand, the meringue added a light, caramelized sweetness that balanced the richness of the coconut rice and the juicy tropical mango. To nit-pick, it could use more mangoes. S E R V I C E Friendly, personable service from our server, Poppo. He was attentive, kept our glasses filled, and receptive to feedback. Aside from our interaction with Poppo, the overall service could benefit from additional training to better reflect the warmth and genuine hospitality that Thai restos are known for. The BOH was on point with prompt arrival of courses. We were done in less than an hour. A M B I A N C E Casual, modern dining area that's welcoming and inviting with decorative Thai ceramics and cookware, earth tones, half-circle booths, and banquette seating. Overall, SAAM is off to a solid start (4 stars for the food). While the city has no shortage of great Thai restaurants, both casual and upscale, SAAM has potential to set itself apart. By showcasing creative regional dishes rooted in traditional and approachable Thai flavors while thoughtfully incorporating CA's local ingredients, it's a welcome addition to Mission Bay. 4.5 stars rounded up.

My wife and I went to SAAM during its opening week, and it was already packed on a Wednesday night. The vibe was upscale but welcoming, and the interior was thoughtfully designed. Service stood out immediately: the wait staff was warm and friendly, and our experience stayed positive despite being seated about 25 minutes after our reservation. To thank us for the wait, the manager comped one of our desserts. We ordered Pad Ped Ped (duck) and it delivered rich, aromatic flavor that felt well-balanced. The Khao Soi Haeng Seafood was another highlight though we would have loved to see more squid incorporated in the dish. For dessert, the Mango Sticky Rice meringue was a standout, especially the meringue which was a novel twist that complemented the sticky rice instead of overpowering it. The Thai tea cheesecake was simply delicious. Overall, SAAM feels like the kind of new SF restaurant that will quickly earn regulars: great hospitality, solid execution of classics, and desserts with real creativity.

The first US restaurant by 2x Michelin chef Ton of Thailand! Beautiful space, especially loved the attention to detail and luxury in the bathroom(!!). And a kind, knowledgable and warm staff! The food was delicious and so unique - tried the white curry, the duck curry, the fish pla yang rice pot, cabbage and khao soi. Our favorites were: - the white curry (centuries old recipe, back when Thailand did not have pepper yet! using coconut and white pepper as their base) - rice pot (though the red snapper fillet was a single portion and too small to share among four) - the cabbage, light and excellent There were some understandable new opening pains from visiting on their 3rd day (garlic skins and an inedible leaf in our food, their whole branzino was sadly sold out bc they only had 3, and no non-alcoholic drink options besides sodas yet). Overall, delicious excellent Thai food with an expensive price tag so come frequently on your company's dime (:

First I want to say how welcoming it was when I entered the restaurant. When I entered i was immediately greeted and checked in.. and shown to my seat. I was seated and the menu was set on the table with a glass and I was offered still or sparkling. Everyone was so welcoming, warm and very professional. The interior of this restaurant was beautiful. You can tell that a lot of thought was put into this all the way down to the seating. The design was carefully thought out. The dishes were placed at our table and at one point I got so excited because when it all arrived to the table I didn't know what to try. It all looked very delicious.. and it was! The spice level was wonderful and brought some heat. The curry was delicious and the shrimp was plump and flavorful. I really enjoyed every minute I was in the restaurant and I can't wait for everyone else to try it out!

Food was fresh - all seafood was delicious. Curries were punchy some of them really spicy - for the strong ones. Service was good although some have difficulties to understand the language and ordering was challenging. Ambiance was great for a business meal

We tried the tuna, shrimp tartare, Thai-style beef, black noodles with squid, seafood noodles, pork chop, and duck curry. Everything was delicious, and the flavors came together beautifully. There are so many great dishes to try here I'd definitely recommend stopping by

Pad Ped Ped, a duck curry, was the only real bright spot of the night.

Finally tried this place after wanting to come here for over a year! The first time I looked into…read moreit, I didn't realize the wait could be 2-3 hours, so I never got around to visiting. My friend and I were in the SF area and decided to give it another shot. This time, we went shortly after they opened for dinner at 4 PM. We arrived around 4:15 PM and waited about 15 minutes before getting seated! NOTES: * No designated parking lot, but there's street parking available. I can see parking being difficult to find during rush hours. * Small, cozy dining area that seems to always be packed! * We were a party of two but were seated at a table with another party of two because seating was so limited. Something to keep in mind if you prefer having your own table! * If you're planning to visit, I'd recommend going right when they open to avoid the longer wait times. WHAT WE GOT: FOOD: Khao Pad Mun Nuer with Soy Cured Egg Yolk: 5/5 This was SO good! Loved the flavors, and the beef was delicious and tender. The rice itself was also packed with flavor. Everything came together really well. Would definitely get this again! Kai Toon Lava (Tom Yum Base): 4.5/5 The workers let us know they had run out of the original base and asked if we wanted to try the tom yum version instead. Glad we went with it because it turned out to be delicious! The egg was silky and smooth, and the shrimp paired really well with it. Would recommend! Burnt Butter Kaya Toast with Coconut Ice Cream: 5/5 This was SO good! My friend and I were already pretty full after the two entrees, but we kept seeing other tables order this and had to try it for ourselves. No regrets! The crispy toast paired so well with the creamy coconut ice cream, and the pandan flavor tied everything together. Definitely recommend saving room for dessert! DRINKS: Thai Tea: 3/5 Ordered this because I noticed almost everyone else had one, so naturally I got fomo LOL. It was alright, but nothing too memorable. I'd probably just stick with water next time. Lychee Iced Tea: 2/5 My friend wasn't a fan of this one. The flavor was different from what she was expecting, so she wouldn't order it again. OVERALL: 4.5/5 I hate to admit how good this place was because now I want to come back, but the wait times are a little too much for me LOL. I'd definitely return for an early dinner right when they open, or bring a friend who's visiting from outside the Bay Area to show them "a spot." The food definitely lived up to the hype. Now I understand why this place went viral!

Born and Raised in SF and growing up in the Mission you make friends with every nationality. You will see all kinds of restaurants serving food from all seven continents. There is one restaurants in the back streets of the Mission District which has lots of characters and it's serves delicious Thai cuisine. In this area you only use to see people wearing suits only on a Sunday but now you see people wearing suits on a weekday walking around. It's located on Florida ( not the state) street and it's called Farmhouse Kitchen Thai cuisine. On a Fleet Week and SF Tech week stroll I landed on Florida ( not the state) street. When it comes to Thai food I always like trying dishes with seafood. Most restaurants by the water serve seafood that can be bland and stale in SF. Some try to squeeze the life out of a lemon and lime and it still tastes more sour. One thing you can do to change the taste is to put some different flavor on it. Farmhouse Kitchen Thai cuisine offers a seafood plate called the Run Juan Seafood Sizzling and it's exactly the seafood answer for Don Juan . The Run Juan was a bit spicy with the spicy curry paste and jalapeños with and it came with an assortment of different seafood which included shrimp, scallops, calamari, and Manila clams. It wasn't salty like some in SF. I also had the Tom Kha soup which was not too sour like some in SF. I was looking for the purple rice but they had the blue rice which is good to have for Fleet week in honor of the Blue Angels. I washed all down with a purple colored Anchan Limenade. Some things in the Mission has changed and those days are "gone"but one thing won't change is the love of the Mission and for San Francisco by "Don Juan" because the Mission in the city still has it going "on" so go the Farmhouse and enjoy a Thai seafood dish called "Run Juan" Walking the streets of the Mission at night back in the days you had to be "cautious" because the ones who got targeted were the "softest" the Farmhouse is located on the Florida street where the "loft is"and lots of people demand for Run Juan but I am not currently running for "office"

I came on Sunday around 5:30, and was seated immediately. The steady influx/outflux of customers never made it seem too quiet, even though only half the restaurant was utilized. If you decide to come here, I recommend avoiding the Thai staples like Pad Thai and Tom Yum, and ordering at least 1 dish from the "From the Chef" section. This place feels more authentic with more unique offerings compared to your regular run of the mill Thai place (they are mostly government sponsored anyways). I ordered a Papaya salad (Som Tum Poo Pla), a Shrimp Paste Fried Rice, and Roasted Pork with Crispy Pork Belly. For starters, the Papaya salad with a bigger price tag is not for the faint of heart. There is a load of fish sauce, and combined with anchovies, makes for an...acquired dish. I was told by my server that it's pretty authentic, but it's a little too authentic and reminds me of Natto or Beijing tofu juice. The Shrimp Paste Fried rice is a must order; the spread is very instagram worthy and gives me vague paella vibes in terms that it's shareable and good for parties 2-4. I did not see this dish at other Thai restaurants I've been to, so I'd consider pretty unique. Just be mindful that it's on the sweeter side, and the chilis on the side are very, very spicy, so allocate accordingly. The Roasted Pork with Crispy Pork Belly was by far the star of the show. The skin was super crispy, and the pork itself was super tender, melt in your mouth feeling. The flavors and seasonings were perfect, with just a hint of basil to elevate the entire taste. A true adventure for the taste buds, and a must order as a shareable. Service was super friendly, and my waiter answered all my questions with a smile, and even gave us his recommendations since we wanted to stray away from the basic thai food orders. This place is a must come to if you're looking for true authentic Thai food from a chef that has pride in his work. I can't wait to come back to try their other unique dishes!

Not really the restaurant's fault as it was getting closer to the end of the night but that definitely had me feeling even more bummed :( And when the food finally came out, some of my rice was cold :( I feel upset because I have been recommended this place many times but the food and front desk service really fell below my expectations. And if you have a sweet tooth, order an ube latte or thai tea, and finish with a Sweet Dream. It comes with waffles and a side of fruits, ice cream, fudge, and whipped cream. Read more

Found this spot on TikTok and it looked Instagram worthy, so my cousin and I headed over on…read moreSaturday for a late lunch [def have to go back for brunch]. We decided to share a mimosa flight, spring rolls, and ahi scoops. Even though it wasn't brunch, they still allowed us to order a brunch flight, and they were so polite and helpful throughout 4.8/5. The inside is tiny, but quite stunning, clean, and gives a lot of opportunities for insta-worthy pics 4.9/5, I only wish there had been an actual photo wall. Now to the food. The crispy spring rolls were cooked perfectly, and seasoned well. The clear noodles and veggies were so yummy. I asked for soy sauce because that's what I prefer over sweet sauce, but honestly they needed nothing 4.8/5. The ahi scoops had the best seaweed salad on it that I have EVER had, the wasabi cream on top was the show stopper, and I don't even like wasabi 5/5. We shared the flight and was more than tipsy from two drinks each, flavors on point champagne delicious 5/5. Overall

Had Blackwood on my list for a while as I was looking for new brunch places to try. The premise of…read morea thai fusion brunch intrigued me and I was hoping it was would surpass my expectations and previous experience with Peacock Pansy (similar brunch spot). The reservation system was a bit odd with no designated time slots, but rather you put in a time yourself online. The system turned out to not work very well as I originally booked a spot for 2 at 11am and then had to call to move it to 11:40am (weird time). Turns out when we got there, my name or a close spelling of it was on the list for 12:40pm. This wasn't a big deal to me since it's easy to mishear on the phone so we moved on from that. The restaurant was decently booked and we sat inside. Now for what my partner and I ordered! Unfortunately nothing called to me strongly so I went with the very basic choice of 2 eggs plate with ciabatta toast and rainbow potatoes. I added in chicken sausage for $3. 5/10: The toast was unbuttered and honestly tasted stale. The potatoes were nice and crispy, but unsalted and quite plain. The eggs were nice, I got mine scrambled. Sausages were okay, I think I actually ended up with the pork sausages rather than chicken. My plate was $26 and I can confidently say it is not worth close to that unfortunately. Brussel Florentine Benedict 6/10: My partner was intrigued by the ton yum hollandaise sauce. There was a hint of it which was nice. Benedicts were okay, nothing special. Coconut oat matcha 8/10: On the sweeter side, but enjoyable! I liked the toasted coconut pieces on top and thought it was a nice drink. Premium matcha wise, I don't agree necessarily, but hey it was an enjoyable drink. Drip coffee 0/10: My partner loves a drip coffee and not in a snobby way. From diner coffee to honestly plain old regular slightly brunt coffee, thats her jam. This coffee was just burnt. Not sure what happened but it was $5 for a completely bitter cup of burnt coffee. Not great. Fun side note: As we were ordering the table next to us called attention to their dish as their waffle was completely undercooked and tasted bitter. The wait staff was apologetic about it, but seemed to either not understand or insist it was "too sweet" not undercooked or bitter. The table was very polite about it so honestly it was not the best look for the restaurant. It was simply feedback and I don't believe it was taken very well. Regardless, just a fun note to throw in! We will not be back unfortunately. There are many lovely brunch spots and restaurants around the city and sadly I don't think this one is worth a try just because of the cost for the quality, but I always tell myself its always worth to try in case you do think differently!

While we were in San Francisco, we decided to visit New Thai Elephant for dinner…read more That was a great choice. Food was amazing and prices were reasonable. Surprisingly, their menu prices were a bit lower than most restaurants here in the OC and their servings were huge. We had: papaya salad, pad see ew, beef stew noodles soup, mango shrimp salad, roti with curry dipping, and a seafood salad, which I forgot to take a photo and didn't realize that until we were almost done eating. Service was good. Absolutely a must try if you're in San Francisco.

So that sucked. 1st let's admire my Thai Ice Tea. This was so adorable & I felt bad drowning him in my tea ha 2nd - my co-worker said this was the 2nd best Pad Thai he's ever had. They grill the tofu so it's got some crunch to it. Which totally elevates the Pad Thai. My Panang Curry with duck was excellent! Decent amount of duck just a few bones. Great little kick on the spice BUT not so spicy that it makes you regret life choices! Delicious will order again. The only thing I'd complain about is that my rice wasn't sticky. I prefer stickier rice - but this rice is perfect if you don't have a preference. I don't want fully unwashed mush but I like a little more starch. My other co-worker ordered Roasted duck over rice - he said it was tasty & would order again. We did order chicken satay and the chicken had good flavor BUT the peanut sauce was just ok. I'd order it again to see if it was just an off day for the sauce. It's a small restaurant & filled quickly at lunch. Many Asians eating there which told me it would be good. Restrooms were slippery so be careful but clean. Overall I would come again!
