I'm not an expert on Thai food, but I have tried the best Thai that Baltimore has to offer. This place blew it away - and the price was very reasonable. The 3-course lunch was amazing. As a vegetarian, I look for great meat substitutes. The mock duck was phenomenal. The portions that were seared imparted a smokiness that produced one of the best meat substitutes that I've encountered. The service was friendly and informative. They have a vast lunch menu selection as well, but not overwhelming. Dishes are marked if they are gluten-free or spicy. My co-worker was equally enthusiastic about his food. I am going to try other Thai places in the city, but I don't expect any of them to surpase Sa La Thai in quality, price, and service. I am a Lancastrian, though I served out of the Commonwealth for 12 years. 4 years of that time was in Chicago which is known for its Thai Food, my favorite Asian fare. There were no Thai Restaurants when I left Chicago. I first met the SALA THAI when my cousins from other states, reserved the entire Dining Room, following my Aunt's Memorial Service for all those present. The food was served in Buffet Style. The moment I tasted it, I was "home," never realizing until then that the SALA THAI was here. I had eaten in other Thai Restaurants in other cities though I never found any as good as the cuisine in Chicago until the SALA THAI came into my life. I love the SALA THAI! The Thai food here is wonderful. If you live in Lancaster and have any desire whatsoever to eat Thai, then you would be doing a disservice to yourself if you never visit this place. If you go during the lunch hour, they give you soup (Coconut soup is GREAT here), appetizer, and the main course...and it costs about the same as order a value meal from McDonalds; the biggest difference is the food is to die for. This place was referred by a coworker of mine so decided to try it with another coworker. I like the decor if the place. Very quiet and mellow. Had the steamed chicken dumplings and the Tum Yum soup which were excellent however if you know Thai food it is known for its spiciness and it was at the low end of the mark. I had the Rama Chicken for an entree and it was good but I wanted some heat and some burn to my mouth and just wasn't there. Rather disappointed. I've never ordered thai where I wasn't able to adjust the heat of the dishes. That tells me that this is probably pre-made. The red curry was delicious, but so spicy it was almost inedible. The green curry had a lost no flavor and was a polar opposite of the red. I guess for such pricey dishes, I expected more. Excellent Thai food in Lancaster, PA The restaurant is very nicely decorated with original Thai pieces brought to USA by the owners and the decor is appealing, while remaining simple and unpretentious. The restaurant is large enough, yet intimate enough to enjoy your meal. Menu-wise, it has numerous selections that are common with other Thai places, and a few signature dishes. Unlike other places, you can tell the wait staff how spicy you want your food, from 1 (mild) to 5 (rocket fuel). My number 3 spice was just right and, next time, I will try a number 4 spice level, as I am confident that I can take it. Service was prompt and courteous, the owner stopped by to check on us, everything was great. There is no alcohol service, but, honestly, you do not need alcohol to dull your sense of taste. The food is too good to miss out on the flavor. I wish I could say more, but I was so pleased with everything, from food to service, that I am confidently giving it 5 stars and recommend you go there and enjoy the delicious food yourselves. read more

We got calamari and were a little disappointed, it was chewy (more than most) and the batter tasted a little eggy (sp?), but the sauce was very good. I got drunken noodles with shrimp, it was excellent. I was very happy with the meal all around. Sorry yelpers: FAIL. This is not a real thai place. this dont compare to any thai place in new york city or vancouver. Let me start with the appetizers. We ordered lemon grass mussel. It is 6 dollars and change and came with 6 mussels. Its a shame because we get more im new york for 13 dollars. I dont care about the price but the mussels were so dry. The "lemon grass" tasted like nothing. The rotti was a joke. The curry was weird. The flat bread uhm... they only gave a few small pieces. The shrimp pad thai is decent. You can tell the noodles were soaked too long in water. The basil tilapia is decent as well. I guess im used to bigger proportions when it comes to my asian food. bottom line. When we do have the craving for Thai food in Lancaster, this is where we end up. The drunken noodles are really good. Their dishes are not as spicy and tart as the Thai restaurants that I have tried in other cities, but overall this place is pretty darn good! They also have great Thai iced tea. read more

Came here for an early dinner on Saturday with my sister and friend. We asked to sit in the window as the rest of the restaurant didn't have the best atmosphere, but they said it was reserved (no one sat there while we were in the restaurant however). Their dinner special ($10) came with a soup, app, and entree. Great price for all that food! The portions were on the smaller side, however after having all three courses, we were stuffed. The service was very quick - almost too quick though, like we were being pushed through and out the door as quickly as possible. I got coconut soup, spring rolls, and panang curry. The coconut soup was good, however the mushrooms in it were not cooked, just put in raw. The spring roll was delicious and fresh. The panang curry was OK, but I've had better curry (at Sukothai). If you want something quick and cheap, this is the place. They are BYOB which was nice. read more

I often order from here and pickup, parking can usually be hard to find. Pad Thai here is oh. so. delicious. And I can't find better crispy crab rangoon anywhere else, and they have a plum dipping sauce that is very good too. I suggest eating in, as the atmosphere is really nice and usually quiet. One of our favorite spots in Lancaster. Always fresh and always tasty. The atmosphere is much more low key than suko Thai but the food is a notch higher. The staff is always friendly. Gets busy on first Fridays but otherwise fairly easy to get a table. Best meals are "Thai basil" and "tamarind duck". Dined with my fiancé back in December of 2018, and we ordered the chicken satay as an app, and after we had started eating it we realized we were served raw chicken. Not even slightly raw, but barely browned on the outside and completely raw when you bit into it. They said sorry and grabbed it off of the table and said we would not be charged for it, which is fine. I did not plan to go back after that experience but over this weekend I decided to order take out to give another menu item a shot. I picked up my order and headed home. Half way home I got a call that they charged my card twice but refunded it- minor inconvenience, sure but not a huge deal. I got home and started eating only to find the drunken noodles were full of egg shells. Not okay. I don't think I can give them another try. read more

We happened to stumble upon Sa La Thai for lunch while looking around the Lancaster Arts scene. What a great surprise. They had a terrific lunch special with soup, appetizer and entree for $9. The coconut soup was excellent. The spring rolls and cabbage salad were quite good but the Pad Thai was some of the best I have had. Perfectly seasoned with a sweeter and less bitter tamarind base. I added a bit of hot sauce but it was excellent for most palates. The service was excellent and very reminiscent of when I visited Thailand. The server was extremely polite and efficient. The wait staff is attentive to the point that occasionally I don't want to drink any more water as they'll be back over to refill my glass. Their weekday lunch combination is an excellent deal. I had to update my review due to some disappointing errors and customer service issues today. I loved Sa La Thai and have been ordering from them for years and years. Tonight I ordered via GrubHub and got my normal order of a curry with extra vegetables, requested at medium spice levels. I always order extra vegetables because even though the curry dishes are at a minimum $12, the containers always come half way filled and are mostly sauce with minimal vegetables (even if you order the tofu and veg option). The dish came without the extra vegetables, which they did refund- however, the dish was unbelievably spicy despite my medium selection via the order, which I get all the time. When I told them that the curry would be thrown out because it wasn't made as requested (I literally couldn't eat it) the dish was not fully refunded. With two mistakes made and the dish wasted completely I don't understand why a full refund wouldn't be processed but I sadly will not be ordering from them in the future. read more

This place is wonderful. I've been several times and have enjoyed excellent meals and service. Not only is the food top notch; but what really distinguishes this place is their never-ending attitude of service. My wife and I usually each order a soup, and then split an appetizer and entree. That seems to be the perfect combination of food and flavors. I have also enjoyed a dinner with a large group of 17 and the restaurant was more than up to the task.
