New customer: This was my first time going to S. Ray Barrett Cleaners. It is a most unfriendly place. I brought in five trench coats and a pair of pants to be cleaned. One of the coats had a little moth damaged in which I was aware of. Pricy: ($141.30), but my coats were expensive, so I wanted to ensure they would not be ruined. Day of pick-up: none of my garments smell as if they had been cleaned, they all looked like they had been pressed. One of my coats had every stain and then some still very visible on it. The coats lining: the bonded layer of my coat had separated from the shell fabric causing wrinkles and snags. Due to the lightening in there lobby I glanced over the coats and thought they looked fine through the plastic, until I got home!!! To add insult to injury the lady tried to overcharge me ($11 and change) for the cleanings. Failure: I will not be using their services again! read more

We come here regularly and are always happy with the service! The ladies are very friendly and willing to help. I have taken some of my grandma's old Christmas sweaters to get cleaned, and they're very helpful in talking to me about how to protect the older embroidery and beading. I have had things get stained that have been fixed and of course we have great experience with our "normal" button down shirts that need dry cleaning. I also recently took in some things that are supposed to be "hand wash only" but I choose to dry clean them as the fabric gets misshapen when I hang dry them and I've found it makes the sweater/dress/whatever last longer. The lady at the front desk pointed out I didn't have to dry clean these items, and wanted to be sure I didn't feel like I was getting taken advantage of. I thought this was really kind of her to double check whether I actually wanted to dry clean these items since she'd be losing business if I decided to take them all home to hand wash them! I just moved in across the street from this dry cleaners and I couldn't help but just walk across the street (but of course that meant I drove ;-)) and give them my laundry. Remember to go online to get their coupons before you come here. I brought in a suit and a comforter to be cleaned. Overall, I am happy with the quality of the cleaning. They removed stains from the comforter that I thought would be there forever. Yes, I do agree that they are on the pricey side. $20 for a suit and $30 for the comforter. They took between 3-4 days to be able to have that ready. I would probably go back at some point simply due to convenience. read more

I've been taking all my dry cleaning to S. Ray Barrett for the last 6 years. I dry clean a batch of clothes every other month, so I've been going there frequently. Of all the times I've been, I've never had missing buttons, broken zippers, missing clothes, etc. Although they are a bit pricier than other cleaners, my clothes look great. I've tried nearly all other cleaners, and the quality cannot be matched. The only downsize is typically, the turnaround time is 3 - 4 days. read more

Terrible customer service and over priced - the woman was surprisingly rude! When we asked if the service could be expedited she huffed and offered us the day before the date she gave originally. So much for fast service! Apparently they don't actually do any work over the weekend, so what should take no longer than 24 hours takes them 4 days. (Terrible business model if you ask me). Overpriced!!! Ruined my husbands dress shirt and 2 of my black tops came back faded. Of course they won't take responsibility once you leave, but who inspects their dry cleaning when they leave...a customer shouldn't have to inspect the dry cleaners work! Yes, count to make sure all your items are there, but if you are a dry cleaner that charges what they charge then you step it up. I have been using S Ray Barrett Cleaners for three years and have never received anything other than excellent customer service, friendly and professional conversation and exceptional cleanings. The owners seem to have a high level of expectation from their employees, and the employees always deliver on that expectation, which I appreciate. I believe that the Virginia Beach location might be a sattelite store, so the items you take to that store might have to be transported to the Norfolk plant for cleaning -- keep that in mind if you need something back the same day. If you need something right away for a wedding, job interview, etc, I think S Ray Barrett is able to have cleaning done by a specific time frame. Just ask! I specifically like that they have aligned themselves to be able to do alterations and tailoring. I will go back time and time again. read more

For nearly two decades I have been taking my suits and other important clothing items to S. Ray Barrett's. That goes back to when they were located on Colonial Ave. where a bagel shop currently is! I'm aging myself...anyway, there have been few mistakes made over that long of a time span and when there were, they were remedied without struggle and I have no complaints. The price may be a bit more than competitors but, you get what you pay for. I have learned that the hard way when trying to cut corners on my budget and wound up having to purchase new clothing or waste valuable time trying to get through to lesser experienced cleaners when my clothing care went awry! If you have articles of clothing that do not mean much to you and wind up going to donation each season, then I can understand some of the lack of quality care required to handle them. I prefer to have clothing (I have taken delicate non-clothing items too and if Barrett's cannot do the job the will refer you to a trustworthy processor) that lasts and is made with care and quality. Therefore, I like to have the same attention to detail when it comes time to clean and care for these clothes and this cleaner is the only one for me. read more

I spend a lot of money on my clothing therefore i am very picky about who is dry cleaning my clothing. I will not take my clothes anywhere else besides S ray Barretts. They truley take pride in their business and do an excellent job. They have a blue banner service for items like silk and chiffon that is amazing. They also cleaned my wedding gown and boxed it for me in the most delicate way. I have been to other dry cleaners all over the country and they by far exceed any of them. read more

My boyfriend has been bringing his suits here for years. Recently, he brought in a white linen/blend suit that got covered in mud and grass (he and a friend were horse-playing and fell on the ground). He figured the suit was a loss and didn't try to home treat it or bring it in for at least a month. Barrett's was able to completely clean it! I'm sure it took some elbow grease and magic, but he's very happy they could fix it like new again. They were also helpful in letting him know there was some moth damage on a different suit. I've definitely seen little moths in our house but never paid attention because I thought they had just snuck in with going and comings of people and our pets. We made sure to treat our closets/rooms for it now because the cleaners let us know. Their prices are comparable to most places around town, but the service and workmanship makes them better! They do an excellent job - they are on the pricey side but all work is done on the premises. The staff is very courteous but I will say they are not quick to turn things around. For my first visit to Ray Barrett Dry Cleaners, I took a beautiful white silk/wool suit. Sadly, it had several spots of chocolate pudding on it - I didn't have much hope for it. When dry cleaning did not remove the stains, I received a call asking if I would give permission to have the suit washed. While it took longer than anticipated to get the suit back, it has NO stains and looks beautiful. I couldn't be happier. In this case, I didn't care how much it cost. read more

I brought in 2 white shirts that I thought were ruined for good, they were stained badly and faded. I showed them to the girls at the counter and they said that they believed they could make them look better but there was no guarantee. When i picked up my shirts I could not believe how they looked.
