Put a new engine in my 2021 ford, had to go back numerous times to get everything right. He then told me one of my engine mounts was broken and even though the truck was only three years old, he told me it wasn't him or his guys that broke the engine mount putting my new engine in. They blamed it on Wear and tear on a three-year-old truck and he charged me over $500 to put a new engine mount in even though anybody that knows anything about truck knows that 99.9 probability that they broke it putting the new engine in. read more

I have been trusting my cars to S&S for about 18 years. I would go nowhere else. My 2008 Jeep Patriot has 200K miles and my 1999 Ford F150 is at 255K miles. Both are running great due to the attention of the team at S&S. Highly recommend... read more

S&S was my go to car repair shop for several years. I like supporting local businesses and liked they're close to where I live. My car is older with a lot of mileage so I'm not surprised when something breaks down. Just like most of us, the state of our economy is making it harder to pay for the cost of living and nearly impossible to save for an emergency. I didn't mind paying $800 (kidding) for an oil leak. There was a lot of labor involved and needed to be repaired. Got it repaired and it still leaks! On my way home from work on a Thursday night, the alternator went out, car died. I called S&S and left a voicemail to let them know that the car was going to be towed first in the morning and that I definitely need my car to get to work on Saturday and Sunday. I took an Uber to work on Friday. Friday morning, the car was towed to the shop as soon as they opened. I took an Uber and made it to work on time. I called the shop, spoke to mechanic and told him that I can't uber to my weekend job, it's too far and would cost me more to Uber than what I would make! During my lunch break, I called and spoke to the mechanic. He said that he's short staffed and he's in the middle of a big job, he would have one of his guys look at it. I reminded him that I dropped it off first thing in the morning to give them time (all day) to get the job done. He said he would try to get to it. Around 4, on my break, I called them. The alternator and labor would cost almost $800 and be done on Monday. Wow! I reminded them that this is exactly why I had it towed first thing in the morning. I need my car to get to work. I had the car towed home, had to rent a car for work, and shop around for another mechanic. The prices I got quoted are much better by a couple of hundred dollars. Bottom line, disappointed. Spent a lot of money for years on car repairs there and was a loyal customer. The expense, stress, and the inconvenience of having to rent a car to get to work was a deal breaker for me. So, if you get your repairs done here, expect to pay top dollar, expect to wait a very long time for the repairs to be done and don't expect to be a priority because now they have too many customers and not enough time. If it was my car repair business, I would have tried to make it right somehow to ensure customer satisfaction. They just said, oh well, not our problem. Next! read more

Absolutely the best repair shop in Oceanside,to take any kind of car, New or old, import or US made. Robert and his crew are great at troubleshooting and repair. I take my RV here as well. So great to find an honest repair shop that is reasonably priced. Usually crowded, so best to call first. I visited S& S automotive because my mechanic moved away and recommended this shop. I went in late December when my car broke down, which I thought was strange because I'd just had my radiator replaced. I received a quote from Robert who performed a simple test to tell me that my head gasket was blown and I knew that I wouldn't be able to afford anything he quoted me so I left in tears. Robert did not charge me for the quote nor for the test which did cost him $. I appreciated his kindness and that is what brought me back when I finally had the $$ to fix my poor car. I had several parts replaced and I'm sure it was A LOT of work. Robert and his crew fixed my car quickly and he has been running well ever since. I never felt like anyone was trying to sell me anything I didn't need or fix unnecessary items. I felt as if they were honest with me and the provided me with friendly service. I think that I received the best service in town and will schedule any service or repairs with S&S from now on. I am eternally grateful for S& S Complete Auto Care for getting me back on the road. Thank you Robert & Ken for everything! read more

If you're looking for a family owned, transparent, honest and fair priced auto mechanic who specializes in cooling systems, you've found it. I found this place by chance while on a trip last summer from the Bay Area to Oceanside to visit family who live nearby. My truck had been overheating over the Grapevine and through LA on the drive down, and I brought it into S&S to take a look. Despite the fact that they appeared to be very busy, they sympathized with the fact that I was leaving town in 2 days, and quickly diagnosed and repaired my truck in an expert manner. Robert took the time to answer all of my questions, and even gave me different options for solutions at different price points. I chose to have my radiator and hoses replaced, and it was done in one afternoon with no problems thereafter. More importantly, he got my truck back in condition to get my family and me back home safely. Seven months later, on Spring break with my kids, I had an unrelated issue with my truck (it's old!), driving down to SoCal with the family. Remembering how good their service was at S&S, I returned to see if they could help. Once again, I was warmly greeted by Cheryl behind the front desk, was given options from Robert, quickly serviced in one day, and made it home again safely. I should mention that the "Leak Stop" they installed did not actually work, and my engine overheated 275 miles out of town on my way home, on the shoulder of Interstate 5 at 1:00 in the morning. I added a few gallons of anti-freeze, made it home, and ended up having to replace my engine entirely. But because they had explained that possibility, I do not hold them responsible. It was a band aid on a bigger problem, and I chose to go with it. I suppose they could have offered me a partial refund when I told them about what happened, but that's their prerogative. It wasn't their fault. And that fact that I am still willing to give them a 5 star recommendation after so much trouble should speak highly to anyone looking for referrals to this business. As a small business owner myself, I hope to achieve the same level of expertise they have here in making customers feel like they are getting great service for a fair price, without any feeling of regret afterward. Well done, S&S Advance Auto Repair. read more

Shelter, food, and an honest auto mechanic is all I ask for. L.C. looks like a nutter and I wouldn't pay creedence to his/her review. I tend to only review places I feel deserve a rating, and I post seldomly. Give these guys a try and I don't think they'll let you down. S&S Complete Auto Care - Auto Repair Near Me - Oceanside, California

S&S Auto is the best auto mechanic shop in North County, Period. This is the first automotive mechanic shop I've ever been to where I know everything is going to be taken care of, by an HONEST, no bull, highly trained mechanic. Robert knows his Biz, and is as honest a man as I've ever seen, HIGHLY recommended!!! read more

1989 Chevy Astro: OMG, THANK YOU! I had a mysterious intermittent problem with my jalopy. The engine would shake & act like way out of timing (whop, whop, whop). He went at it all day and found TWO really illusive problems that had been left by the previous mechanic I used. It runs so much better now. Not perfect, cause I know I need other work done, but he got me back on the road without having to worry about having to pull off the road or blow up the engine. read more

My gut feeling was correct! just got more work done here, they are friendly and honest. Plus, there's a coffee shop down the street (the cup) you can hang out at to wait. read more

It's extremely hard to find an auto shop that you can trust. My husband and I have 3 vehicles that we usually take to the dealership for everything (oil changes, brakes, repairs, general maintenance). We moved to Oceanside 2 years ago and I stopped in for an oil change. We have been taking all our vehicles there ever since. We love S&S! read more

I know cars.. right now I have a ford and a Dodge Van. I have brought both to him with everything from Electrical problems to mechanical. He's Extremely knowledgable and friendly. This place is no bs. I highly recommend. He could have charged more, I know he could have for the work he did, and he didn't (I know the work). HONEST and RELIABLE. Mark my word. read more

AC issues can be difficult for some mechanics to diagnose. Not these guys... They have it down to a science. Robert is a pleasure to work with and he definitely knows his stuff. They got everything up and running after a car accident caused some AC damage and I couldn't believe how fast they did it. Can't say how impressed I am! read more

I had a very complicated Dodge Charger cooling system nightmare that even the Dodge dealership could not figure out. S & S was my 5th shop (was referred there by another mechanic, actually), and thankfully my last shop, because Robert figured it out! I'm amazed at the diligence he put in to researching my issue, even before I came in. His HONESTY is astounding, and I appreciate so much that he talked through the situation and the options with me. After everything I've been through with this car for this issue, I feel like I can confidently say that Robert is indeed the "specialist" I was referred to him as. I would definitely recommend S & S, even for your toughest diagnostics! read more

March 2015 one regular sized a boat heat exchanger there was $95.00 to have it boiled, rodded and pressure checked. Since they did such a nice job of it, I thought I would use them again. March 2016 I dropped of three (3) 1 regular and two really small ones, the guy calls me and told me the price is $475.00! What? When I asked if his prices went up he said yes they did. I asked again and reminded him of the previous prices. Dude would not budge. I don't know what happened there, but the prices have jumped up more then double. read more

Robert at S & S Advance Auto Repair in Oceanside was highly recommended to us by a neighbor. After over 30 years in Oceanside, we finally have a mechanic to take our cars to that we trust. He takes appointments, keeps them, does good work for a fair and reasonable price, doesn't push you to do additional, unnecessary work and did I say we trust him. Going to a mechanic or the dentist is usually not tops on your list, but having a good one you can trust for what you need at a fair price is priceless! read more

I went here last fall to get the A/C fixed on my 95 Lexus. They did a great job and fixed it up nicely for $400.00! Everything is running great almost a year later. I had a quote from a shop in San Diego for $1500.00 which I just knew was wrong so I was delighted to find honest and skilled technicians at S&S. I recommend this shop and will certainly return if I have additional problems. read more

I have been using this shop for a really long time and I am never disappointed in their work. It may remind you of an old time shop, but they know how to repair everything modern. Good owner and staff. I trust them with my cars completely. read more

This shop was recommended to me for a wiring job on a custom chopper trike. They kept the trike close to a year, let all the chrome rust on a rust free desert trike, and did an absolutely piss poor wiring job. Robert was very nice, redid the springs and handlebar chrome, but that doesn't change the facts of the absolutely inept job they did. I have had nothing but electrical issues since the day I picked it up. It has been towed to the VW Buggy shop that recommend S & S numerous times. I have paid additional hundreds of dollars to fix his screw ups, and am now in the position of redoing it all over again so it will run properly. I know they have been in business for 50 years or so. If this job was beyond their ability, they should have been up front with me. read more

Took mazda p/u to S&S (wouldn't start) . Robert said based on his long experience, I needed to replace pin switches in both doors. Before I authorized the work, I asked if he had checked every other possibility; He replied that he had. So I said OK. Went to pick up truck which was running when I arrived. Sunday went shopping in Carlsbad; upon return, truck would not start. Had to call a tow ($90). Having lost confidence in S&S, I called a mobile mechanic to assess the problem. After 20 minutes he diagnosed the problem as a bad starter. Replaced starter. No problems. I tried to reach an accommodation on some sort of refund (which Robert agreed to in principle, I was stonewalled for days. I told the office manager that I thought a reasonable solution would be for them to Refund labor cost and I would eat the cost of the switches. They refused. When I said I would seek remedy in court, Roberts mother then said "now you have pissed me off" and hung up on me. 1m ag read more

I took my VW camper in for some electrical work. Robert first gave me a gift card to get free breakfast around the corner. Then he found the problem quick and easy (it was user error). He was well within his rights to charge me the $195 estimate but because it was such a quick fix, he just shook my hand and sent me on my way free of charge. I'm not saying he's not going to charge you, just that he's a fair and down-to-earth guy. I'd go there again in a heart beat. read more

Nice guy but service was not acceptable. Replaced radiator and upper hose but by the time i got back home (30 miles away) car was overheating again. turns out i had a leak in my lower radiator and hose. it is obvious that they didn't pressure check the system after they replaced the radiator. this should have been routine and instead cost me a half day figuring out what was wrong and replacing it myself. read more

I recently brought my Jeep Liberty in for new brakes, and it was the best automotive repair experience I've ever had. Most of the time when it comes to getting your auto worked on, you always worry if you'll get taken when it comes to price. I didn't experience any of that here. From the first phone call, to the last thank you, I really appreciate the care the team at S&S Complete Auto Care took with me. Awesome customer service! read more

Took my Eurovan to this place at the recommendation of my local mechanic. I had a problem with the automatic locking doors locking on themselves. The owner said he'd be able to fix it. After leaving it off to him, he called me a couple of hours later and told me it was the door acuator, a $200 part he'd have to order. I gave him the go-ahead since he assured me that what it was. A couple of days later i returned with the van for him to put in the part. Later that day he had it ready. Total bill was over $400, parts and labor. Turns out it wasn't the actuator. The owner wasn't apologetic but asked me to bring it back in. I did, i picked it up again after he assured me it was fixed...it wasn't. The non fix caused the door handle to break as i was pulling on it and as the door was locking. THAT part would cost another $250. I was upset. The owner had no remedy. I asked him to take the door panel apart so that i can find a less expensive part myself. In doing so, his employee who had the task of doing this had to remove and replace the door panel THREE times, having missed connections ie. speakers, window switches, screws. In the end he didnt connect everything correctly but i wasn't going to wait for a FOURTH try. I urge anyone with any sense not to go to this mechanic. The shop is disorganized, dirty and the customer service is awful. The mechanics are figuring things out as they go and they don't take any care to not dirty the interior of your car with their greasy hands or clothes. In the end i complained so much, the owner returned the labor costs to me, not the cost if the part, and i put in the new part in myself. I'm still living with self locking doors. read more
