Fried chicken, black-eyed peas, Mac 'n cheese, coconut pie, and cornbread

Service was outstanding: those friendly folks serving food, those helping my elderly dining partner to a table (I think her name was Chi), to the cashier. Very good! Food was adequate. Fried chicken was fresh but a bit dry. Pie was good. Cornbread overcooked. Flies were visible in dining area and food service area. Close parking. Convenient location near interstate. I'll likely return next time I'm in the area during mealtime.

The food was pretty good and the price ok but the service after I sat down made my whole dining experience. I must have gotten 4 refills on sweet tea while eating and she brought me a tea to go. I was so content in the warm southern atmosphere of the restaurant that I decided to get me a piece of custard pie and cup of coffee which she also brought me a to go cup of. I was worried I'd be sitting there with such a small empty glass. By the way my custard pie is Devine. I had liver and onions with butter beans, cabbage and a side salad. I totally ate all of it but the veggies could have been cooked more for my liking and needed salt on all veggies. All in all it was a good meal in a relaxing atmosphere. Price for all was $16.50.

Recommend you just go inside and eat, it was much better on portion and quality on my last visit

What a pleasant surprise. We enjoyed our late lunch and the price for three of us was fair. The restuarant was clean and the servers on the line were intentative. We made our selections and we received everything we wanted. The food was fresh and tasted very good. I ordered liver and onions, Hunny ordered fried chicken, and mama ordered chicken and dumplings. We were all pleased with just about everything. The ice tea was refreshing, smooth, and delicious as well. There's an early bird 10% off special going on and my mom is clearly old enough for any discounts, but the cashier did not mention it, and we didn't either. We had to ask the restaurant attendant for refills of iced tea and not one dish was removed from the table as we finished eating. A few tweeks and five stars is all there is for this restaurant.

Always a treat to eat here! I was pressed for time so I ordered in Take Out Shoppe. It was busy considering it was at lunch time. I ordered a veggie plate and a side order of Pear salad. Delicious! The Pear Salad is my favorite salad here. Always freshly prepared The veggies were tasty as usual . 4 veggies $5.79.... The parking lot was full for the dining hall and as I drove around to the take out it was full. There are maybe 5 designated spaces for take out. This parking lot is shared with Waffle House and an Attorneys office. The only issue I have is the location and getting into the parking lot. The way the entrance is designed you have to cut across traffic to get here which is a dangerous intersection. Nonetheless I got in safely and I was satisfied with my food. The next time I'm in the area I'd be sure to stop by!

I love S&S and so does my grandson. Who would've thought that you could get a child to eat liver.. This is my go to spot for a home cooked meal

I have loved S and S since I was child growing up in Augusta, and just realized that I never had the pleasure to reviewing them on YELP. Their spots ooze with Southern charm, hospitality, and remarkable deliciousness of food items from days gone by with heart turkey in dressing, cracklin' bread, various greens, salads, and that amazing friend chicken. A lot of folks in my hometown, when they don't feel like cooking, head to S and S after church on Sunday to grab lunch at their Take Out Shoppe or dine in. It is still a favorite spot of my family's, and I sometimes head their to grab lunch when I'm visiting in my old stomping ground, Macon. I went yesterday while in the area visiting and had to get the Turkey and Dressing, Turnip Greens, Mac and Cheese (which is my absolute favorite), and the cracklin' bread. They are famous for that cracklin' bread which is simply delicious and is always perfectly cooked. I finished off with a decadent slice of sweet potato pie. I love their sweet potato pie and I adore their peach cobbler. They are must for family dinners, solo lunch, and for visitors to Georgia who love some good old, stick-to-your-bones kind of cooking. They have fed my family for generations, in good times and in bad, and am please to continue to patronize their restaurants. Bravo!

You need reservations to dine here. There was complimentary bread and peach jam. They have a rotating selection of daily specials, cheeses, and change their menu frequently. I also appreciate the "small plates" section for when you're not that hungry. The cheese board appetizer was a surprising favorite. It had items sourced from local farms. Our waiter was very accommodating and did a good job with recommendations and explaining the intricacies of each item.

You definitely feel the love with their servers. Extensive menu knowledge and very service oriented they aim to give you the best experience possible. So after a tasty cocktail and a very nice charcuterie board I went with the Crab and Panko Crusted Cod. Oh my goodness what a delicious entrée. A tasty crusted outside and so tender inside. And that lemon and miso creamed kale topped it all off. Definitely a place to try when in Macon. The only draw back is that it's up stairs on the 2nd floor with no elevator.

So on our way back from visiting friends at Lake Lanier, I as the passenger + navigator said..hmmm...we need a break but let's find soul food. I said. Who goes thru Macon and dont eat good. Not me. So, I hit Yelp. Then I asked AI. Claude. Claude gave me a list and there was the H! So we drove 20 minutes out the way. Best detour ever! Go early. Buy an extra meal for home. I gladly dropped my cash. ..salmon cakes made me cry....everything was off the chain. Well, I had my good juju on, I sat on a bench with a 30 year veteran of this place. She talked my ear off, what a delight. So the place is decked out in Allman brothers memorbilia. It was their early haunt as they rose to fame. Well the founder, older blk lady is dead. Her family smartly sold out to corporate. But it was worth it. They maintained all thats good. Even the tiny old bathrooms. Need an update for sure. But. .Definitely worth the visit. Parking was horrible! So go early! Now, you need to go by Macon cemetery. See Allman burial, civil war places. I want to explore Macon more now! Well, as we drove home, around Jacksonville, I reached in the back seat. No fork. Just a smile. Yes i fed my driver. Salmon cakes hit on all cylinders. Sadly the two meat plate left off my meat, turkey. But forgiven. I should have checked my to go order. Never trust. Always verify. Broke my own rules! Stop by. Soak up history, flavors in this quaint cafeteria style. Nothing fancy. Just pure delight!

When the staff seem to enjoy their jobs and working with each other as well, chances are you have a winner. We were seated immediately in a cozy booth with floor to ceiling graffiti. The place just oozed character! We were told that at times in the loft above our heads they had live music FYI. The waitress was friendly and on point. We never found ourselves waiting to order or for drinks, etc. The food was great. We started with the solid gold soul rolls which were tasty. I'd say 2-3 people for this app. My wife had the hot pig and fig which she enjoyed. She wanted something a little light and it was perfect for her. I ordered the Dr John Burger. The cook forgot my bacon . No bueno. Our waitress was game and was quick to bring me bacon to complete the burger. It was well cooked and the flavors were excellent so all was good. We started with the fried green tomatoes, which were a great appetizer--crispy, flavorful, and a nice way to kick things off. My only disappointment was the fries. They were a bit soggy and lacked the crispiness I was hoping for, especially with the fish and chips. A crisp, hot fry would have taken the meal to the next level. Overall, the food was good, the atmosphere was enjoyable, and I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu.
