Chunk taken out of our hallway

HORRENDOUS!!! I would do zero stars if it would let me. We hired two movers for 3 hours. Only one of the movers was actually strong enough to move anything. They dragged everything, rather than actually picking it up which ruined our hardwood floors with massive scratches, took chunks out of our walls and essentially ruined every piece of furniture that they actually moved. I ended up asking them to leave after 45 minutes because I didn't want every single thing I own to be ruined. We've tried to contact their claims department multiple times, they've told us they need to charge us for the minimum of 2 hours before we can file a claim, so we've asked them to do that and no response. Unless you want all of your things ruined, rather than moved, DO NOT hire S & L!

Many of my chairs were used to support heavier items.

S&L out of Bloomington, IL under Lashaun Lashley does NOT provide great customer service. The team of 2 people haphazardly packed my 2 PODs without consideration for using either the pads, straps or bands that I provided for them. See the picture of what my PODs looked like when I opened them up at my new location. Looks like things were just thrown in there. They severely damaged the front of my refrigerator by force fitting it along side my wood desk, and left gouges in my antique table top as well as dirt/grime on most of my dining room chairs. The list goes on. They would not provide any reimbursement for anything and pushed me off on HireAHelper for all warranty claims. And good luck on getting anything more from HireAHelper than $.60 per pound. Lashaun Lashley did not apologize for the work of his team and did not want to discuss it with me. He could care less that I might write this review. I'd stay far away from this moving service, if you want to call it that.

Glass just floating, packed without protection, under a chair.

Two movers did a great job, moved everything with speed and care. S&L were hired through Hire a Helper.

I haven't written a Yelp review in over a decade. I am coming out of review retirement specifically…read moreto recommend Breda Moving after having them take care of our out-of-state move. Look, we all know moving sucks. It's the worst. I'd rather get a lobotomy. HOWEVER, Breda will make this terrible activity into something that is--dare I say?--enjoyable??? I first got in touch with Joe Breda months back, and he personally drove out to our three bedroom apartment to do a walkthrough and put together an estimate. One thing I truly appreciate about how they do things is that they estimate on the high-end of costs to mitigate any unfortunate surprises when the delivery happens. While their estimate was considerably higher than other places we looked, we ultimately went with them because of Joe's excellent, responsive communication and the obvious pride he takes in his work (also helps that we originally got a recommendation from a friend who had nothing but AMAZING THINGS to say about their cross-country move). I am so, so, so glad we did. Not only was Joe flexible with us, answering all of our questions leading up to the move, he was also able to make some adjustments ahead of our move, including accommodating a move date that was two weeks earlier than our original scheduled date. We had Breda's team pack our apartment, and their crew arrived right on time (in fact, about 10 minutes early), and the packing took about six hours. Not only was the crew efficient and OBSCENELY CAREFUL with all of our belongings (seriously, we never would have been that careful if we had done the packing ourselves), but they were also all extremely nice. My wife and I had a blast talking with them throughout the day, and it really put us at ease getting to know the folks who were handling our stuff. The next day was move day. Again, the team arrived slightly ahead of schedule, got straight to work, and in a few hours had us all packed up. They were super efficient and remarkably careful getting all of our belongings safely out of the apartment and onto the truck. We even have a couch that baaaaarely fit into our back room, and the team took the utmost care getting it out through a narrow hallway without scuffing or damaging any of the walls. Honestly, we had resigned ourselves to thinking that that item would be the thing that dinged us a bit on our security deposit. SPOILER ALERT: we got our full security deposit back because the Breda crew is just that friggin good. We were scheduled for delivery to our new house the next day. Joe handled the delivery personally with his team (he even brought his two kids along, who were awesome--they're not kidding when they say they're a family-run company). He called us when they were about an hour and a half away, and basically showed up right when they estimated. Even though it was a completely different crew than who packed up our stuff, they were all fast, friendly, and very, very careful with our belongings. Not to mention, the final cost came in well under their initial estimate. If you're reading this far, wow! I hope it's obvious just how happy I am with these folks. It's been over a week since the move was completed and I'm still thinking about what a great experience Breda provided. From first touch to final delivery, they took great care of us, and I would highly, highly recommend their services to anyone. I pray to whatever deity is out there that we don't have to move again for a long, long time, but if we do... I'm calling Breda.

Pickens-Kane Moving & Storage - I nearly cried when I saw this. And yes, it was damaged - after 75 years in our family.

I hate moving. There. I said it. It is right up there on my list of going to the dentist and…read moresitting in endless meetings. But I have to say, as complicated as this move was, Pikens-Kane pulled it off almost flawlessly and that is saying a lot given other moves that I have done. Let's talk briefly about the complexity of this move. Most moves go from here to there but this move actually required 4 different component moves. From the old house in the suburbs to a new downsized apt in city, from the old house to WI, from the old house to storage, and from the old house to a location in Fort Lauderdale, there were multiple moves all over a series of weeks. Each component of this move was complex and Pikens Kane made it look easy. Mike D came and went through the house to determine how we would do all the segments of the move. He made sure the packers showed up when they were supposed to and that the trucks were loaded on the right days and sent to the right location. Not only most everything get to where it was going and on time, we had no damage with this move which is a rarity with any moving company. So hats off to Pikens-Kane! If there was any hiccup it's that one box that was supposed to get packed, didn't and unfortunately got sold at the moving sale. It caused a little drama but Adrian jumped right in to make sure it wasn't in one of the other locations before telling me it didn't get moved. Disappointing but in the scheme of things a small problem. This could have easily been averted had I been home at the time of the packing as the packers moved it from one floor to another to get packed and then it just didn't get boxed up. All in all, one of the smoothest moves I have done and I've moved all over the world. If you've got a move coming up, you should let them bid your job. It probably won't be the cheapest bid you get, but somethings are worth paying more for to get right.

If you're shopping around for movers, keep looking! I fell for a 5 star rating on the "Mother…read moreCompany" of Allied Movers, and didn't dig deep enough to find reviews for Pickens Kane. Had I found them, I would have known better. That's why I'm letting you know...... My move was grossly underestimated, and the movers ran out of blankets. They had to get a second truck. But no extra blankets. They moved my belongings into a storage unit for several days before reloading everything into yet another two trucks, and STILL DID NOT BOTHER to bring more blankets! It is totally inexcusable to tell me they would do a better job than I could in packing my prized family heirlooms - I'll let the photo speak for itself. And yes, I had a lot of damaged items - and their idea of a settlement was rather sad. BTW - the quote was A THIRD of what it finally turned out to be! As I said - keep looking. I wish I had.
