This place is a great asset to responsible recyclers and folks like me who want to dispose of hazardous materials safely. It's on a weird little side street in Sun Valley so you'll definitely have to GPS it. Open Saturdays and Sundays from 9am - 3pm. It's drive through - so put your stuff in the trunk, STAY IN YOUR CAR, and follow their directions. Easy peasy. They take old electronics of all kinds (except lamps!), old paint, old chemicals, light bulbs, old meds. A valuable resource from LA City Sanitation. One of the hardest parts about throwing away things at the house is to know what can be trashed in our own bins and what needs to be properly recycled. Once that is settled you gotta find out where to take your hazardous trash. I am happy to know that we have these types of recycle centers locally and my experience at this center was super easy and hassle free. Over the weekend I loaded up a SVU full of electronics, batteries and bulbs. Went over to the S.A.F.E. Center. Was asked a couple of questions, drove up to the are were they have people to unload your car and thats it. Was in and out in less than 5 mins and back home within 15 mins. Easy Peasy. If anyone in my local area wanted to know where to properly dispose their hazardous items I would definitely recommend coming to S.A.F.E. Center. I've been going to these places for a long time now. It's a convenient way to get rid of the toxic stuff (including electronics and batteries) that accumulates over time. I've also found the workers consistently friendly and polite, surprisingly so. I don't know where they get their people, but they're always nice. read more

What an incredible resource. The SAFE Center is one of those places you don't truly treasure until you need it. They take almost any waste off your hands...from electronic waste, hazardous materials, chemicals, even medications. No questions asked!! I've been to them at least five times since I discovered them, and their staff has always been friendly, professional, and safe. Their COVID protocols are excellent and I'm always in and out in a matter of minutes!! The SAFE Center is simply the best! This is community service done RIGHT!!! read more

What they're doing is terrific. I appreciate it and want to encourage it but geeez folks, do you have to be such hardasses. Hard lookin' woman scowls and tells me "Stay in you car!" Open the door to show them where a couple other boxes are and I get yelled at. Can't find a cap for a bottle of cleaning fluid I'm turning in and I get yelled at. So when Ms. Hard Lookin' Woman struggles to pull a heavy box out of the car? "Darlin' I'll just sit right here and watch you struggle. SAFE Center is such a great place. They took all my old electronic items, no questions asked. I even offered to help, but they just want you to sit in your car while they do all the hardwork. Basically, you drive in, follow their instructional signs like, STOP! An attendant will direct you. Just listen and follow their directions and you'll be in and out in minutes. No hassle at all. Its like a secret government installation that you don't get out of you're car for. Really you're not allowed. Lately, I have taken the task at my office to be in charge of recycling duties. We had a bunch of broken printers and laptop batteries that were no longer of use. So, I wanted to be very conscience about where the electronic waste goes. Some people would just throw electronics in the dumpster or you can do it the cool way and go to the City of Los Angeles's S.A.F.E. Center in Sun Valley. There are multiple locations throughout the City of Los Angeles. I decided to to go Sun Valley's location. Located on Randall St just off of Glenoaks, you'll find a secured area for Solvents/Automotive/Flammables/Electronics (S.A.F.E). You'll notice a lot of the staff are wearing protective gear to protect themselves from the many chemicals and dirt. So, the process is very simple. You drive up, wait for instructions from the S.A.F.E Employee, turn off your engine, and let them pick up your items without leaving your vehicle. You can dispose medical syringes, electronics, liquids, and other hazardous material without any questions. It is better to play it safe than to endanger the environment. Fast and Friendly! I dropped off an old 'boob tube' TV and was out within a few minutes. Friendly service, didn't even get out of my car. It's worth going out of your way to come to this place. One note to get out faster, have all your disposables ready to grab for the attendants. The guy in front of me had a bunch of paint cans stacked under the cover of his cab. We had to wait while he pushed everything to the edge of the cab so it was accessible for the attendants to grab. read more

I'm so glad I did my research and found this place! I'm in the process of a COVID-era move and, through it all, have realized how little I was taught growing up about how to properly recycle and dispose of various items, including toxic waste and electronics. In my efforts to be more ethical and intentional about how to get rid of things, I discovered S.A.F.E. Center through the LA City Sanitation website (lacitysan.org). I showed up this afternoon shortly before closing time with a bag of old acetone-based nail polish remover (which I stopped using ages ago but didn't know how to ethically get rid of until now - yay!), an aerosol can, small paint bottles, a couple batteries, and a few small electronics. The employees were lovely! Two people were there to greet me (they were wearing masks, but I know I would have seen smiles if they weren't :)), ask where I was coming from, how I found out about S.A.F.E. Center, and instruct me on how to move through the process. The guy that removed the bag from my trunk was so charismatic and friendly, I really wish I had gotten his name! He made what could have been a boring chore an enjoyable experience. Very happy with my discovery of this place and the positive experience I had! Highly recommend. read more

Good for old electronics and household hazardeous waste but they sometimes close earlier than the posted times. Very frustrating,.

This place makes it sooo easy to discard of unwanted waste such as...old paint ,cleaning supplies and automotive solvents. You just drive thru and someone in a white hazmat uniform walks up to your car and immediately takes the stuff out of your car trunk without you having to leave your vehicle. This is a safe and legal way to get rid of hazardous crap. read more

The hours to drop off hazardous waste are on weekends only, listed on the LA City website as 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM. My father was sent to this place by the hazardous 1800-773-2489 number and a employee from this location flipped out on my father threatened him to call the police on him and cursed my father thinking he was trying to dump hazardous material. The employee gave my father a hard time when all he wanted was help finding a location where he can dispose hazardous material. Plz train your employees to communicate with customers, find out what they need before assuming from wrongful doing! read more

Great place it's as easy as using a fast food drive-thru. Just drive in and they will unload your stuff and you drive off. The only draw back is they are only open on the weekends, Sat,Sun ONLY from 9am-3pm read more
