Incredibly flawed system with extremely rude staff. They make several careless mistakes and take no accountability. Always end up feeling worst leaving this office. Difficult to navigate scheduling an appointment online for what I need, on hold for several hours, and if you go in person you have to also wait several hours just to make an appointment for another day most likely months out even if you're asking a simple question, following up with an application, etc. All these years they had the wrong date of birth in their system, sent a new card which never came and they don't seem to care or want to help. Let me see if I can even find the words. My mother receives social security due to disability and my father passing. Due to a glitch in THEIR system that was no fault of my moms, her check was deposited in an old account so she didn't get it. I can't express enough how much she depends on these checks. She has less than $100 by the time the next check comes. This is dire. She spent multiple days calling and was finally explained it was a glitch on their end and it was being fixed. A few days pass and nothing. Then she was told she had to go in person. She goes in as soon as it opens and waits for four hours just to be treated absolutely disgustingly by one of the male staff. He treated her like an idiot who didn't know her ass from her elbow. Would not help her. Flat out said he would not help her. After pleading with him he FINALLY looked at his damn computer and told her the check was mailed and to give it 3 days. It is now 8 days since she should have received her money. She has $5 to her name and bills bouncing. She is using Kleenex for toilet paper. Has no food in her fridge. I can't help her because I also had expenses that depleted my funds and I haven't been paid yet. She is 68 years old and mentally competent and she was treated like an old invalid who was worth nothing. This was not her fault and this office had no interest in helping. If you have no empathy, you shouldn't work in these offices. If I knew his name I'd be filing complaints with his management. These are people's livelihoods. Their ability to pay their bills. Keep a roof over their head. And mistakes like this are detrimental. That man and this office is horrendous. read more

Long Wait Times - Make an Appointment! If you're planning to visit the Social Security office in Burbank, do not come without an appointment. I arrived around 8:30 AM--30 minutes before they opened at 9:00 AM--hoping to be seen quickly as a walk-in. Unfortunately, I still had to wait over an hour just to be assisted. If you're in a rush or have limited time, make an appointment in advance to avoid the long wait. This office clearly needs a more efficient system for handling walk-ins or at least better communication on expected wait times. read more

I have a valid, current passport and have always renewed this before the due date, specifically since I can't recall where the heck my actual social security card is (and last I read, I would need this if I let my passport lapse). Funny how something so important is issued in the form of paper that can be lost or damaged rather easily. Recently, I had something that pretty much required the social security card itself, and it seemed there was no getting around this. When I lived on this side of town briefly, I remember driving by here several times, and I felt this would be a less-busy location than the ones currently closer to me over the hill. First good thing was a large (free) parking lot, something I might not have had if I had stayed over on the westside. I wasn't sure what to do until a guy waiting outside told me to go inside. There were a lot of people sitting to the left, and a security guard to the right who offers no help (they aren't supposed to according to one of the digital screens). I finally saw a kiosk offering numbers after you answer a few easy questions. I had done some paperwork ahead of time online, and had a confirmation number so I was hoping this would have made things quick and easy. The waiting area was similar to the DMV/social service offices, etc. so be prepared to sit around a lot of people at any given time. It's much quieter here though. The time I arrived was about 3:14p, and I overheard security telling someone as long as they arrived before the doors closed at 4p, they would be seen, so this was somewhat comforting. I sat for pretty much the whole duration they were open (until about 3:56p), and was directed to window 20. This place was much bigger than I had expected. Guy who helped me was very nice, and I was sitting there for about 10 minutes total. I think it helped I did the paperwork prior, and had everything I thought I might need out and ready to go. Not sure about other cases, but they mail the new card out within 10 business days. True to their word, it arrived that exact time later (my mail is delayed by a day or two). Normally, I'd say this office is not bad considering you always have a long wait. But today, I was told there were no more walk ins. Today, I took a number only so I could be allowed to sit for an hour or so and then be called to see an agent only to ask for an appointment. It's a new rule. Today after waiting, I was called to window 3 to see Mr. Ferguson, who might as well have been a robot. He saw my phone was on and told me to turn it off. I was not talking on my phone. I was not listening to anyone on the phone. But he insisted it be turned off and put away. I reminded him that I'm only at his window asking for an appointment and I'm not touching my phone, but he refused to help me. read more

Security guard directed me to just call this number which was busy, called again and was put on hold. It got disconnected. Another time technical issues. The next time disconnected. I wish my taxes paid for better social security service as a government funded office. I just wanted to change my name after getting married. This is such a longer hassle than it needs to be - we should be able to make appointments online more easily or in person. This number is useless. Something special like changing my name for for Wife which is exciting, but has turned into stressful and daunting. Our Social Security administration should be better managed and organized. Do not scan the QR code since it doesn't work. Upon entering the establishment, go to the right towards where the the guard is seated. Across from them is a self check in kiosk to register where you'll be provided your call number. Took less than 2 hours to be called. I was there yesterday with no appointment, around 1:00 pm. It took me 1 hour and 10 minutes to get in and out. The security guard was rude to everyone. There was one man who came in was obviously disabled. He needed to sit in a seat that was not in the assigned area for seating. He was sitting at a window that was closed and was not in the way of anyone. The guard kept harassing him to move. Moving, (walking) was very hard for him. The guard wasn't going to give in and the man finally lost his control and was yelling loud enough for the entire waiting room to witness. FIRST THING WHEN GETTING HERE GO STRAIGHT TO THE DOOR TO SCAN THE QR CODE TO CHECK IN. Got here at 9:19 to stand in line to check in. Once I approached the entry doors I seen a QR code to check in virtually. That would have saved me a good 20-30 minutes. Overall it was still a quick turnaround of an hour. I went in for a name change. Tips: Process your stuff online if you can. Gather all your paperwork. (Bring the official documents like marriage certificates or birth certificates. No copies will be accepted.) Come early. Wear a mask. Don't bring extra people unless you need their help. Don't talk on your phone. Bring your patience and remain calm. The security guard there is serious about his job. It makes sense because it's a government facility. Just be polite and remain calm and everything will work out. I processed my paperwork online and I did not have an appointment. I checked in anyway and waited approximately an hour to be helped. The guard will assist you even if you don't ask. So just be nice. The gentleman at the window was very efficient and got everything I needed done. From start to finish: I got out of there within an hour and a half. Thinking about the new Real ID California driver's license? DMV prefers, among other things, an original social security card. After turning my place upside-down, I could not find mine, and the social security website said I could not order a replacement on line. So, off I went to join the long line trailing outside the door of Burbank's Social Security office. Without a reservation! The line moved quickly and, after checking in on the computer terminal inside, I got my number and took a seat in their waiting area. Though the room was full, my number was called 15 minutes later and, ten minutes after that, I was on my way. The lady at the counter was so nice and friendly. Oh man, if only the DMV was this easy. I ordered my replacement social security card on a Monday. The card arrived, by regular mail, the following Saturday. All services are free. A hit! read more

It's fairly well-known that COVID has significantly impacted the amount of service and communication that we can expect from business, especially government offices, it seems. As the offices are closed and documents cannot be verified in person, in order to get a new social security card (or one that reflects a name change) documents verifying identify have to be mailed in. This means that your original document, not photocopies of the document, have to be taken to the post office, and sent out. The website now states that this process "may" take between 2-4 weeks to have the application filed and documents returned. (Originally it stated that it would take 5-10 days.) Surprisingly, the new social security card arrived promptly, about 10 days after it was expected to be received according to certified mail tracking. However, the original documents like State ID and birth certificate, were not returned around the same time. This was a bit surprising, as the office they would be sent from is only 2 miles from our home. After waiting another 5 days, I called to ask if we could get an update on when they would be received. This review isn't about the time spent waiting for the return of the documents, but for the lack of assistance, empathy, or clarity from the customer service agents at this office. After asking about tracking/expected delivery date so I could know if I needed to reschedule a doctor's appointment and DMV appointment, I was told that until 4 weeks have passed, I couldn't be given any tracking information. When I asked if I could speak to a manager (I don't usually "Karen", but this is an urgent matter) I was then asked for the information to verify the person I was calling about, and after waiting 15 minutes, was told that it hadn't been mailed out yet but would be mailed out today. Mostly everything involving medical care, financial situations, legal situations, etc. require you to have a photo ID to verify your identity. To expect that people should just "wait" for their only form of valid identification for a month, is absurd. I was told that I could not go down to the office to pick up the documents because "no one is there" and then told that because of COVID, everything is backed up because shipping documents now requires health precautions and they are doing so "at their own risk". Everyone is able to be vaccinated. Most businesses/offices are open. Except, apparently, government offices - which are most needed at this time. Why is no one at the office? Why is mailing out documents "at their own risk?" Why am I told that tracking information or updates on the shipment of the documents can't be given, but then after requesting a manager, I am able to? Incredibly frustrating, disheartening, and rude. Have some compassion for the people who are just asking for clarification, rather than refusing to look into something that effects their health, and daily life. read more

Today is may 9, 2022 as I have been patiently waiting for my documents to be returned still nothing . I've called , spoke to reps and supervisors, been in twice and still nothing . Yesterday, being Monday, December 11, I went to the Broadway office in Glendale to get this sorted out. After waiting about 45 minutes, I was called to a window where I encountered a pleasant woman who was efficient, and it took about 25 minutes to get my account fixed. I should say that whether it is f truly fixed will be revealed in time. It is comforting to know that now no one can change anything on my account via the internet. All changes will have to be in person. The ever efficient woman had entered all new or different information and I could leave. I thanked her but I needed to know when I would get my December money. She had no idea, and what was shocking to me was she also had no intention of trying to find out. I reminded her that I had been penniless since the first, had not eaten for five days, had a very unhappy birthday because I was hungry, felt bad as it is not healthy to not eat at any age, especially 70 when you are already underweight, and WHEN WOULD I GET MY MONEY? I have worked and paid my contributions to the IRS since I was six- years- old. I worked every year since then. They like to pretend that Social Security is a gift for the lazy careless people who are broke due to their lack of something. The very thought of me makes our Republican leaders nauseous. It's my fault-yeah, yeah yeah...How do I not know that only rich people can steal, lie and use taxpayer dollars to hire prostitutes? Did I not go to class when I represented my Texas high school at Boy's State? Sorry, I digress. Back to the IRS and the SSA representative, she would not even try to get me an answer or even a sincere probability of when I would receive my money now 12 days late. I reminded her that I did not have any money and needed to eat. She even suggested I tell them at Ralph's that they should just give me the food as my money "was coming". I ask her if she had ever tried that at a grocery store, and if so, what did they do? She had no reply. I ask her to let me talk to someone higher in the organization because perhaps they would know. She said okay and I waited. After about ten minutes, I had to leave as my friend was about there to pick me up. I failed to tell you earlier that I am disabled as I have terrible issues with neuropathic pain due to a botched knee replacement. I went back to her window and ask her if someone was coming to talk with me. She said "yes, at some point". I had to leave. I do not understand why we hire people to work with the aged and infirmed who do not have it in their hearts to care about or even just acknowledge the difficulties that many people on Social Security must live with. If one does not have the ability to be sympathetic less long empathetic, don't take jobs that require compassion from you. This woman was so cold and seemingly could not understand why I needed to know when my money would be available to me? This is not a criticism of the Broadway Social Security Office, it is only to prepare those who struggle with daily life to prepare yourself for those uncaring, cold, and ignorant people who are out there hurting us on a daily basis; and a plea to those like the woman who "helped" me yesterday to try to listen with your heart, even just a little. read more

I came here the other day to change my name after getting married. I walked in and saw the rose and rose of people sitting in chairs. Took my number and sat down and waited about 2 1/2 hours before my number was called. Funny thing was I was only seven numbers in but it took 2 1/2 hours for me to get called. During that time I started to feel a scratchy throat and low and behold I got sick from being in the Social Security office for 2 1/2 hours. You're packed in like sardines And the guard barks at you every few minutes to keep it quiet, turn off your phones, pay attention, I actually felt like I was in detention rather than waiting in a public service office funded by my tax dollars.
