I received my citizenship at the end of March and I started to look around immediately to apply for a US passport especially since I have an elderly mother living in Europe and we live during uncertain times. I found Burbank City Hall and felt like it was the best choice and closer by (USPS didn't seem like a good option) in downtown Burbank, off San Fernando Rd. The next available appointment was on May 4th (this was end of March). I signed up and also noticed that walks in are welcome. I put my file together, filled the form, had photos taken. I decided to go over one day early April (way before my appointment in May) around noon when they have a lunch break (over an hour) to get in line. It was a long line, but once they opened, it was moving. They were taking walks in. I realized that the lady working at City Hall was giving special treatment to some folks ahead that she knew, was very friendly with. Folks who didn't have the paperwork together but she was making copies for! Also, some were for renewal, they could have done it on line. For first time, you have to go in person to apply. After over an hour of waiting, the same lady came to the couple in front of me (after them I was next) and turned us away. It was more than 2 hours to closing time! Infuriating and upsetting! So I left, came back when I had my appointment, I was in and out in 10 minutes, it's a line inside for appointments. Nice building inside and out, but masks are not well enforced, folks kinda of wear it, without nose covering! I was helped inside an office, paid the $35 facility fee, waste of money. I guess the clerk didn't like I had the photos taken somewhere else but their facility and mentioned the State Dept. might contact me to ask for other photos since you can't see my eyes because of my bangs! Wrong! My bangs are never that long. I always had them and never had issues with ID photos or passport ones in US or anywhere in the world. She was trying to find a problem since I had it together and the file is ready and I was fast in and out. My husband was getting annoyed because I just finished a long and crazy citizenship process and dealt with bureaucracy my whole life. Maybe they should be concerned with folks that don't have photocopies or still fill out forms or in line or inside their office! They told me I should get my passport in 11 weeks. Well, that didn't happen! It was the passport craziness that made national news! Got my passport finally on August 13th and just received back my certificate of naturalization! Long process, nerve racking. But the photo was fine! It was taken at CVS . Don't appreciate clerks who try to find a problem when you are prepared! That happened to me a lot in Eastern Europe and I expect better here! Make an appointment! I was disappointed by this office because I read great reviews! I never like special treatment given to folks and they are big on it here!

Burbank City Hall's Tree Lighting was a nice event. The Mayor, Emily Gabel-Luddy, brought along plenty very important people for the crowds to meet. The 30-minutes to the Tree Lighting went by really quickly. Mickey, Minnie, Santa and Mrs Claus stayed behind to meet the crowds individually and take pictures. The skating rink wasn't completely up and operating yet... But soon. A few roads closed for the event, but the crowds weren't that big. And the events can get packed just not tonight. Wish you were here... Merry Christmas 2019 from Burbank, California!

Visited February 15, 2017 11:30 am. So I got this letter in the mail from the city clerks office stating that my signature on my ballot did not match the signature on file. And if I wanted my vote to count, it's have to go down to the city clerk office with my ID and verify my self. I have to say I was kinda perturbed because I've been voting in the city of Burbank for 15 years and never had this happen before. I knew what signature they had to have, which was my previous married signature. (I've been married now for 11 years and have been using the same signature).. but clearly with the latest Presidential election and voter fraud allegations, Burbank is actually checking now. Again I knew exactly what was wrong. And I'm glad they are checking. And even though it was irritating this hasn't been caught I'm all the past elections I voted in, I'm glad they are making changes. The lady who helped me was very kind and apologetic. I wanted to be angry but I just couldn't because she was so sweet. And I didn't have any problem parking and no lines to wait in, so it was actually nice to see the beautiful building and fountain. Interactions like these are what makes me love this city! Thank you Burbank!

Came here to get my passport. Had an appointment at 10am, when I arrived(almost 10), there was a line already. I thought it'd be at least an hour wait but I ended up getting in and out for no more than 30 mins! Each time they admit a party in the office, they first ask the appointment time then the arrival order. So, no need to get there way early before your appointment time. The people I encountered today were all very nice. They are very patient and attentive. While I was waiting, I could hear them assist other families, they explained the same thing over and over as different parties siting at the other side of the table. Even though you could get the same instructions online, they did not appear unpleasant and were very helpful (even to infants!) The city hall has plastic boards between the staff and us. From where I stood, I could see, after a party leave, the staff sanitizes her table before each new party to come in. I was called around 10:10 and was done by 10:24. I am so glad I dig around and decided to drive 1 hour to come to this place to get passport service! Best experience with gov. employee! Photo service is $15 and the fee to the city hall is CASH ONLY!

Woohoo! Car parked right in front of city hall

We saw a rare Gloria Swanson silent film along w a talk by a brilliant film historian. I'm constantly going to revival and old theaters like The Egyptian, New Beverly, and Aero theatre and wanted to add this one to the rotation. Essentially, they transport you back in time to the early 20th century when movie theaters started taking off! And not just about the old films they show, we're talking OG Dr. Pepper in a glass bottle and lobby cards and photos on the wall. A giant Wurlitzer organ where our organist started off the night's festivities with a few words of history and a few songs on the organ. We even did some sing-alongs lol. Everyone in the red vests are volunteers keeping this running. You can sense the deep passion they all have for preserving this history and a deep love of cinema. Got a brochure calendar for showings through June and will now make sure I come out at least once a month.

The Year in Music:…read more On Monday Night in a Closed Museum, the Grammy Museum held it's first, in what it expects to be annual, "Year in Music Forum", with 5 guest speakers, who among them totaled decades of experience in the music business. The Panel proceeded in informal fashion led by moderator Robert Santelli, instrumental in the development of the Grammy Museum, and long affiliated with The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Questions were put to music critics, music journalists, and music professors. Seated on the panel were: Josh Kun: Associate Professor at the Annenburg School, USC Lorraine Ali: Newsweek, New York Times, Rolling Stone, Spin Mag Phil Gallo: Variety, LA Times. Gail Mitchell: Billboard's R&B, Hip-Hop editor Sarah Bennett: The one fresh face, an editor & writer at USC The searching question was the one on the minds of every music professional, regardless be it the lowly sell my Merch at a dive club musician before I climb back in the van and drive 375 miles to my next location wondering if I have enough gas & will break down ..... to radio station execs, recording industry executives, and consumers streaming & ripping. * Where is music trending? * What devices will people settle on for music listening, or will they ever settle? * Is there a major world star out there? An umbrella star who captures everyone's attention? Or are there tiny corners where some people listen to cumbia & reggaeton, while others listen to Bollywood & Bangra, & still others listen to Taylor Swift & Mylie Cyrus .... ok this panel didn't have much love for the last two, but just a point. * How can anyone ever get paid again? * Are there taste makers out there any more or does everyone just listen to whatever the F they want to, regardless of the critics? Let us say the discussion was lively. Nothing was settled. And for the most part it was agreed that with music streaming from areas as diverse as the Ganges, the Amazon, and the Tigres-Euphrates, that never again will there be a music industry in it's Glory Days that can dictate consumer tastes and spending. Disclaimer: This is not a review of the Grammy Museum itself. The Museum Exhibits were closed at that hour, and this was a Panel Discussion.

And came across the story of Private First Class Sadao Munemori, the only Medal of Honor recipient in the unit during World War II, and the fact he was a native of Glendale. The Go For Broke National Education Center in Little Tokyo mentioned a little while back that the city of Glendale was dedicating the square housing their Veterans Memorial as the Sadao Munemori Memorial Square. Bookmarked it and made plans to visit it when the opportunity presented itself. This past Saturday the opportunity presented itself, and I made my way to Glendale. Easy to get to, lots of street parking on a Saturday. The .Memorial Square is on the northern corner of Isabel & Broadway. The memorials are divided by conflict: War on Terror, Vietnam, Korea, World War II, & World War I. Sadao Munemori's name is on the bottom of the WWII memorial, set off by itself. It was quite appropriate that I visit a Veteran's memorial on the Memorial Day holiday. There is a Japanese saying, "okage sama de" (I am what I am because of you). My life & those of other Americans of Japanese ancestry would be different without the exemplary conduct of the 100/442 and all other AJA units, and I certainly would not have the Army career I had either. Recommend!

It was okay, I parked in the public parking lots and walked over. I stayed at the event for an hour, but found it would open skating rink hours, (but didn't find out those exact hours). The Glendale Mayor was there along with his family and other government workers. They talked for 30-minutes before lighting the Christmas tree. The anticipation to view the lit tree grew plenty people restless because there was a lot mindless chatter in Armenian around me. It was worth the wait for all of us, (and much better looking than the pics I uploaded). I ditched listening to the adorable childrens choir to explore... The holiday village displays and holiday plants were nicely laid around. The City offered complimentary hot cocoa. Also, Studio Movie Grill gave away passes for free movie screening of choice. The skating rink was like normal but outside. They closed a street for the car show fundraiser, outside screening of Dr Seuss and food trucks (funnel cakes and cheesesteaks). Glendale Firemen and Police protected the crowds. This was a much nicer event that I could have ever imagined. The weather was nippy but nice. Then, the clock stuck 7pm and a slight drizzle started. It was bearable. Happy Hanukkah! Happy Festivus! Merry Christmas! Happy Kwanza! Happy 2020!
