I write this as someone who just completed jury duty at this Courthouse. All the staff were helpful, welcoming, informative, and often humorous. Ms. Garcia as the jury wrangler was brilliant and considerate. You can have confidence when she's "on the case." Judge F.M. Tavelman is fair, considerate, and obviously loves the law, his job, and this country second to none. I was actually disappointed to complete my jury service. Lots of kudos. read more

Do your best to never have to pay a ticket or fine, or have to see a judge for other matters. Burbank Judges and Courthouse does not play around. I have seen them arrest people here. Parking is almost impossible to find here. You will have to park at some of the meters, or take a risk in parking in the residential areas. I have gotten away with it before. I took care of my ticket here, and everything went Ok I Dory. Lines are terrible here to pay a fine, or get a extension. read more

I got called to Jury duty 3/25/25, I logged in & it said I successfully completed jury duty have a photo I took just incase. NOW I get another jury summons, different jury ID number for a couple weeks later saying I didnt do the last one a coupe weeks ago. After talking to the court and offering to show them the photo they DONT CARE that I logged in in March 2025, I have to do it again with this jury ID number... If they are putting me through this for jury duty IMAGINE the unjust things they are doing to the defendants. Not sure if its this courthouse specifically or all of Los Angeles system but forcing me to report for Jury service twice within a coupe months under different jury ID's leads me to question EVERYTHING else they are doing... after this how can I be unbiased if they are doing completely wrong & incorrect things to me & I just have to accept it & report again. My experience with the court in this situation will definitely effect my opinion on a jury. Jury room smells like mold and makes my nose run. Ceiling tiles have obvious water damage in several places with deferred maintenance and the room is surrounded by a maroon upholstered u shaped couch that looks like it is from the late 1980s and may also be causing severe allergy issues for me personally. Burbank is entitled to make me sit in this toxic mold filled room and serve on a jury when they have made studio city their airports super highway and there is no flight traffic over this courthouse! So they are making me so sick in multiple ways I am so over Burbank, Burbank Courthouse and BUR airport. You are a terrible disservice to your neighbors and should be sued. read more

I called Burbank Courthouse today to get details on filing a small claim against someone for 5k and got the general telephone number from Google. The first few minutes of my quest was a bit confusing and condescending since the person that answered the phone was apparently either not having the best Friday or hasn't had enough customer service training. I pushed through the call and spoke to a different someone that redirected me to Pasadena since Burbank courthouse does not handle 5k small claims Maybe something that the first person that answered the call could have possibly been aware of, but I digress. I had a chance to speak to said persons manager, Linda Thomas and she listened well immediately I knew she understands the significance of customer service and organizational goals. Cheers to the managers that are doing a great job and leading good teams like Ms Thomas. This new quit quitting phenomenon (performing only the jobs assigned and not going above and beyond) is out of control and I am thankful for managers like Ms Thomas that upholds the significance of community support. read more

I booked an appointment for a name change through the Civil Court. Booking was easy via phone. My appointment started on time, actually a little early! Heidi assisted me with all of my forms and explained the process. She double checked everything, caught a couple mistakes that I had made and literally processed everything in about 15 minutes. All of my questions were answered and I feel fully prepared for my name change court date. She even called me after I left to remind me about one of my forms. I can't thank her enough for making what I thought was going to be a tedious process that I was dreading, so easy! I really appreciated the time she took with me. I can't imagine that it is easy dealing with the general public everyday, and I truly appreciate the help and insight that she provided. If only more of us were like Heidi! read more

Sure, the facilities are run-down, and there is a persistent leak in the 2nd floor ladies' room. But unlike the other courthouses, there are only two levels of courtrooms here, so no time is wasted on waiting for and riding on slow elevators. Parking is also super simple, as there is free 2-hour parking on the street in front of the courthouse or in the lot directly across from the courthouse, and, if you are a juror, in the adjacent parking lot behind the courthouse. There is no snack shop located in the courthouse, but you will find two vending machines on the floor level, located inside the room for traffic cases. No matter, bc you are only a block away from all the restaurants on San Fernando. What's also fun is driving past all the TV studios to get to this quaint, little building. There is nothing depressing about this courthouse because, above all things, justice is done here on a daily basis. The judges are decent and know the law. And the jurors? wow! my dad paid so much money expedited to get his passport three months ago and never got it, him being the kind man he is, very patient, Mrs. Gomez promising him her boss would call with week after week going by and he didn't get that call, talked to everyone there, apparently, they lost it so now not only is my dad missing out on a job, he now doesn't get a passport and now not only is he loosing out of money his birthday trip is now no longer. To them it's just another day another passport lost, to others it's their lives. Fortunately, there were others congregated around the front entrance waiting for direction. At 8:30, we were greeted by a bailiff, with a sense of humor, who explained the courthouse rules. We shuffled in through the metal detector while our belongings went through an ex-ray machine. Then upstairs we went to the jury assembly room where we sat around until 9:00. I was a lucky one, my number was actually chosen, and I was able to sit in the jury box. The judge was quite entertaining with knowledge, experience, and humor. I really learned quite a bit about the law and court proceeding. Unfortunately, I was excused by the prosecution on the second day of service, as I knew I would be, just as I was decades ago. If I was able to stay, even if to sit in the common area, I would have, just to learn more from the judge who made learning fun. Overall, the Burbank Courthouse is a clean, organized, and the people are warm and helpful. The interior could use a little TLC. These are the dinghy halls of justice incarnate, with florescent lights and institutional paint and a single weird smelling elevator that's slow. I came here last week for jury duty and instantly felt oppressed by the dinginess, so much so that the idea of fulfilling my civic duty there gave me the Willies. The building didn't have but one soda vending machine and no hot coffee or a sandwich cart. All the jurors shared one small crammed fridge. It felt like I was in Romania in the 1980s. Burbank has been giving itself a face-lift now for years as can be witnessed in city hall across the street. it's time the courthouse got a face-lift too. read more

Horrible, horrible, horrible. This is the problem with our judicial system. So inefficient, they take so many breaks throughout the day, and judge Carter talks so freaking much. The whole morning until 1200 was spent talking and talking. Finally when they decided to start jury selection, it was already time for the lunch break. This was 1.5 hours for lunch! When we returned, judge Carter talked for another 2 hours about nonsense. When he finally started interviewing jurors, it was already almost 4pm! The court closed at 4:15, so he made everyone return again for another day. He spent way too long talking about things that were completely irrelevant to trials. He thought he was being funny, but really it seemed like he was just enjoying the power trip of keeping everyone stuck at the courthouse. The whole system is antiquated, and this burbank courthouse carries the inefficiencies to a whole new level. The court room is nice, but the bathrooms are so disgusting. read more

Literally some of the most miserable people work here. People are obviously annoyed because out court system sucks but they make it even more confusing and awful. The clerk working behind the glass counter wouldn't answer any of my questions and instead said if I needed more time with my questions to like let someone else go in front of me uh I still am going to ask you the same thing.. they don't really care about anyone here it's sterile and the architecture is dated maybe even collapsing. This place is a joke. Not to mention the judge started 1.5 hours late after all showed up at 8am I wasn't seen until 10am. Fix your scheduling system because people work and have jobs and lives? Some dude even fell asleep in the court and was snoring so loudly they just let him while we all stared. Burbank Blvd #102 Burbank CA 91505 Conspired with Brian Charles of Liberty Tax Service and they Deliberately Overstated my 2021 Tax Return, Well I'm Black and Burbank Ca is White so I go to jail for 6 day's because I reported two White Burbank Buisness's for Fraud and Identity and Identity theft. I recently had a few visits to the BCH to take care of a traffic violation and was beyond impressed. I expected a salty DMV attitude from the various staff...and what I received was 5-Star courtesy and respect. BUT I also showed the BCH respect. I dressed to impressed. I had documents of proof ready if needed. I turned off my phone. I gave the bailiff my utmost attention he deserved and the utmost respect to the Judge. Rudest older female security guard at the door. I was looking for the jury room that was on my instructions, which says first floor. She yelled at everyone and said go to the 2nd floor. I asked are you sure? She said "Don't ask me if I'm sure! I work here!". She was extremely rude and unwelcoming. I was just double checking because it was contradictory information. read more

UGH! Jury Duty!! Those are two of the most despised words that a person can utter. Well, they got me. I had to report for jury duty at the Burbank Courthouse and was totally dreading it. Once I arrived at the courthouse, that dread started to disappear. Ya, I had to show up for a week of half day trial (1:30-4:30 every day), but this courthouse happened to be in great shape. There were plenty of clean restrooms. Lots of vending machines. A comfortable (as comfortable as can be in a county building) jury room to hang out in. Oh, and an air conditioning system that would make a polar bear very happy. Sure the trial was boring, and at times I found myself dozing off in the jury box, but at the end of the week, it wasnt so bad. I learned something about our legal system, did my civic duty, and made a lil side cash. Would I want to do jury duty again? Probably not until I am retired and got time to kill. Would I like to do it at the Burbank Courthouse? Absolutely. read more

Thanks to the asshole cop who gave me the tint ticket in the first place ( he saw my car from behind of course the back is darker) anyway I didn't appreciate the attitude either. . The Clerk at the Sheriff's Office was very friendly and proffessional. I was in and out fast and smooth. Very small office. Officer at the entrance very friendly guides you to where you are needing to go. Street Parking only, but its great not too many people there anyhow. :) read more

It's not as if you have a choice as to where you do jury duty, but if you do get called and don't ignore your summons and it happens to be the Burbank Courthouse, you're in for a treat. It mostly has to do with fact that the location is great and there's no shortage of great places to eat on your 90 minute lunch break. The people who work there (in jury services and security) are mostly pretty cool and the parking is easy peasy. Just follow the instructions given when you call in and on your summons and you should have no problems. I'm on a long case, and while it totally blows, at least I can go to IKEA on my break! read more

This is probably the best place for Jury Duty. Because for your lunch break (and if you get picked as a juror, your recesses or any other breaks) you've got a lot of places to choose from for eating and can also squeeze in some shopping at the mall if you're fast enough. It's pretty small in there, but very easy to know where to go for everything. SOMEONE needs to fix up the bathrooms or build more. read more

Going to the Court house is never entertaining. But I think Burbank still has that "good ole' small town" feeling. I was there today - and even some staff members were kind of "stale: I am not here to customer service you," the line was well organized and all the documents were easier to find than one in Van Nuys. Great for fix-it tickets! Parked, checked-in, got the inspection, paid the fee, got the docs, and was out of there in under 30 minutes! You can park in the front and the same officers that screen visitors will do the inspection. I just don't recommend going there first thing in the morning because there is a line of people waiting to get in and that will take more time. read more

We had great experience today in the courtroom Dept3. Sheriff was very knowledgeable and helpful, they tried to accommodate every one in the courtroom as quickly as possible, giving the opportunity for my son to leave early to hic college class, letting me stay and wait for the paperwork to finish. read more

This courthouse is not packed at all. It's not big either but they will get you in and out very quickly! They have free parking behind the building. You just walk to the courthouse. Not much of a walk. If you need the Sheriff to sign off on a fix it ticket, they charge you $20. Cash only. But you can go up to the clerks office and ask for a list of other sheriff depts that don't charge you to check to see if you fixed your violation. Pretty stupid to charge you an additional $20 on top of your fix it ticket fee. read more

For Jury Duty, this place is about a b'jillion times better than Downtown Los Angeles. It's a much smaller operation. There's plenty of free parking close by. The screening to get in - the metal detector, removing shoes, etc ... - it's not nearly as aggressive. The jury room and the jury pool is much smaller. There are places to eat all around the courthouse and the women who run the Jury selection are much more kind and reasonable than those in DTLA. They don't seem to hate people as much. The one problem: You'd better have your own ride because there's a chance they could send you from Burbank to Glendale to serve. read more

If you have a small claims case at this courthouse be careful. From my experience the Judge was sexist, temperamental, and had a temper tantrum during my case. The cases before mine(all men) didn't have enough "evidence" & they weren't prepared the judge let them go and come back on a later date. The judge said the same-thing about my case. But instead of letting us go & come back on a later date. The judge basically testified in place of actually "evidence". Same judge said some heinous things about a lawyer whose last name was Manore. The judge thought because her last name was Manore she would have looked like Jessica Rabbit. read more

I've posted a screenshot of a courthouse employee pretty much admitting to and trying to justify their staff leaving the judge a note on my case defaming me, potentially causing him to become biased against me and my case, now harassing me by continuing to send me personal messages after I left a review on my experience at the courthouse windows, which is my right to do. I'd asked her kindly to stop reaching out to me on this personal social platform. I'm not comfortable with it. Its not enough that the Burbank Courthouse staff will try to retaliate against you personally on your day in court, but they will also seek you out online and harass you. This is beyond unethical. I recently received a fix-it ticket for my back taillight being out. I was told by the police officer that I should get it fixed, go to the Burbank courthouse, pull up to the inspection parking outside, get it inspected, and then have the officer sign the ticket. I could then either mail the ticket in, or go to the clerk's office to have it dismissed given that I complied. I went there today, and was told that I would have to pay a $20 fee for inspection, and that did not count any other fees levied by the clerk. I told the sheriff's office that I was never informed about any $20 fee, and in order for them to charge a fee, it would have to be disclosed in advance. The guy replies, "Well, the sheriff's office and police department are different, so I don't know what was told to you." Really? So the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Not only is it offensive that police officers are issuing fix-it tickets when the murder and violent crime rate is so high in Los Angeles County, but it adds insult to injury when citizens are told to pay $20 for the sheriff's office to do its job. But what would L.A. County be without the public servants wasting taxpayers' time? Advice for Yelpers: the Altadena CHP will do the inspection for free. It may be a little out of the way, but it's worth it so that we're not padding the sheriff's pockets for a 2 minute inspection. read more

The little ladies down at the Burbank court house have as much knowledge as a Walmart greeter. The lady who filed my Small claims , had to ask another lady if I was at the right court house???? How can you have a Job working there if you need to ask someone else about the filing??? The place is run down. Its obvious they spend to much on over staffing catty prego's than dumping some renovating monies into the building. For staff all I could see was about 4 pregnant latino girls and 5 ladies over the age of 70. The system sucks. And if you dont believe me, Just go through the system. Its 2011. Technology should of put more than 50% of there staff on unemployment or in the retirement homes. To give them a paycheck to stamp and staple is to give them charity money. Incompetent Thieves. I paid close too $500 in a cashiers check. They lost it and didn't notify me for months. They now expect me to pay over $1000 for their clerical error. When I spoke the the head of the department she refused to do even the slightest, minimal amount of work to try and fix the situation. Cops at the entrance don't have to much info BUT, there's no getting lost there! Also it is very quick and the clerk was extremely helpful!! Also there was a trying to get extra info and getting "in my bubble" the clerk was very quick to let her know. that she needed to wait her turn or go into another courthouse. I just recently got a ticket for my brake light being out. Its a fix it ticket, not biggie. I finally got the light fixed and went to the Burbank Courthouse to have them sign off on it. I was told in order to have an officer confirm my light was fixed and sign off on my ticket I would have to pay $25 on top of the other $25 fee for getting the actual ticket. The inspection parking area is right in front of the court house and the officers who inspect your car literally stand just a few feet away. DO NOT go to the Burbank Courthouse to have them sign off on your ticket. Its FREE If you go to a CHP station and then mail in your ticket. read more
