If you are expecting anything more than the college crowd and bar food, you've come to the wrong place. The food is mediocre, the service is what you would expect from stressed out WCU students, and i swear they water down their Blue Moons when they are on special. I've had their fries, Reuben, and burgers, none of them are worth paying for. I don't know why but every time i get a long island from this place, they drown it in Coke. It's happened on at least 2 occasions. Really, the highlight from this place is wing night. They don't skimp on the wings, sauce, or blue cheese, and you really can't beat the price. read more

If you like a trendy place, where you over pay for your food and drinks, go somewhere else. This downtown pub may be a bit unpretentious on the inside but the service is good and the pub sandwiches can be quite tasty. Has an Irish/golf theme throughout ( surprise, it's called Ryan's) with plenty of TVs to catch up on sports. If it is crowed on the first floor you can go upstairs and try the deck seating or if you have a big group, there is usually plenty of room to take over the top floor. Try the traditional Hot Roast Beef w/fries. The fries are excellent. The open face BBQ pork is huge and may be a bit heavy on the cheddar jack cheese. Might want to order one half with and the other side w/o cheese. Cosmos are mixed right and Tuesdays are $3 flavored vodka nights. Seems to offer a good value to me. read more

This is the very first bar I went to legally after turning 21. We only stayed for about an hour but it was a pretty good time. Since then I went back several times and it was never a good time again. I never ate at Ryan's but did order an appetizer one time which was pathetic. It was three microwavable mozzarella sticks which were lukewarm for $6. Good thing I came to drink a few beers and not eat here. Over the past year and a half I had several encounters with customers and staff that I did not enjoy at this establishment. One specific encounter was with a 'bald-headed' bartender named Rick. If you know him, or ever see him tell him to F*** off and get a new job. The guy sucks...story posted below. I never received a response from Ryan's when I kindly messaged them on their very active Facebook (they most definitely saw the message but chose to ignore it- first mistake of a business in the service industry). ORIGINAL MESSAGE TO RYAN'S PUB BELOW - no answer: Yesterday night (Saturday-8/17/2013 around 1am) I had a tab open at your establishment and after two drinks I went to close it. I walked up to close out my tab (downstairs bar) and kindly asked the bartender (Rick). He looked at me and said "you already closed your tab" (in a very unfriendly tone) and simply walked away. I waited about two minutes and flagged him down again and told him I would like to close my tab and he has my credit card so in a very unfriendly tone he asked how much the tab was. I told him around $10 and he pulled out $15 threw it in my face and told me to leave. I was confused/enraged and luckily didn't jump over the bar to cause a confrontation and make matters worse. He then simply walked away after yelling in my face that I had closed my tab already (I could see my credit card from the bar...). Another bartender then walked by who I asked to close out my tab and he simply retrieved my card and handed me the receipt. The other bartender (Rick) then walked up to me took the $15 he threw at me off the bar-top and without saying a word or apologizing he walked away. I have never encountered such a service at a restaurant/bar and Rick's behavior was absolutely ridiculous and unprofessional. I have been to your establishment 4-5 times total and have always had a good experience before that situation. I understand in the service industry sometimes it gets frustrating for the staff dealing with so many people but the way Rick acted/carried himself was unacceptable. The only thing I wanted after the experience was a simple apology but Rick even failed to do that and did not acknowledge his mistake. I hope you can have a talk with him (I learned his name from the bouncer working the front door--I asked for the 'bald-headed' bartender and he said his name was Rick but did not know his last name). read more

Went on a Friday night. Toni was our server. She was extremely enthusiastic (always smiling), friendly, efficient and on time. Very attentive, also. Her answer was always "no problem, is there anything else I can get you. We both got the prime rib, medium. I got cattleman's cut (huge), and my wife got a normal cut. Can't forget au jus and real horse radish! Came with fresh mixed greens salad, visually appealing and with fresh croutons (they didn't break into a lot of pieces when you put in your fork), 1/2 tomatoes, and my guess a homemade dressing, although not 100 percent sure. Ryan's is your standard college pub. There are two floors, and It's one of the few bars in West Chester where you can play pool.

Found this place using the Spotluck app. Morgan ( one of two we learned ) was our waitress and didn't disappoint. She was on point. For apps I had the wings ( buffalo style ) and my wife had the wedge salad. Both were great. For entree my wife had the mussels white and for me I ordered a cheesesteak no roll and they subbed veggies over fries to accommodate me. No problems here and will be back read more

Sat at the bar for lunch no mention specials or soup of the day...ordered a burger medium came our well done..roll was bland and stale. couldn't wait for them to make another needed to get back to work. seems like the BT was more interested in reading the paper than servicing a customer....too many options in WC...need to step it up or this place will be on one of those food network makeover shows read more

Excellent fries and stellar salads. I have always enjoyed eating at Ryan's, particularly when it is warm enough for them to put out their outdoor tables. The prices are a tad high for the quality of the food, however their portions are large enough that I often take home leftovers. I find their menu to be more interesting and expansive than Kildare's menu down the street, so I often go here when I'm not quite sure what I'm in the mood for. It starts to get loud and crowded around 9pm or so, therefore I would suggest going earlier if you are planning on going for dinner. There's not a whole lot to look at on the walls, other than some kind of neat historic photos of the town, so I recommend eating out front if you can and enjoy the people watching. They have a back patio and bar as well, but it really just serves as a place for smokers to congregate and not have to abandon their drinks. read more

Arrived on a Sunday evening around 7PM to an almost empty restaurant. Had a very pleasant waitress, but food arrived slowly. I ordered the Steak au poivre with mashed, wife selected the Chicken Parm. My wife immediately noticed a problem with her chicken, and I confirmed it. It was either "processed", old or went through too many freeze/thaws. Whatever, it had a very weird texture and was tasteless. On the other hand my steak dinner was perfectly cooked (medium) and the mashed potatoes and green bean/carrot veggies were done just right. We were eventually able to alert the lone waitress as the bar started to fill up and one more party occupied a booth. She apologized for the badly prepared chicken and asked my wife if she would like to order something else. At this point I was 3/4 done my meal. My wife ordered the crab cakes, thinking they could be prepared quickly as the menu said they were broiled. Imagine the frustration when the crab cake entree took another 30 minutes to come to the table, and they were pan fried to boot. With no updates from the server, and such a long wait despite such a small crowd, we couldn't understand the delay. At that point our experience was such that my wife just asked for the crab cakes to go. To make things worse, once I presented my credit card and a Restaurant.com coupon for the final bill and payment, the waitress, aided by a manager, struggled another 10-15 minutes to do whatever they do with a restaurant.com patron. Supposedly it had to do with their call to Restaurant.com. I believe this to be our first and last visit to what was a promising local eatery. read more

I've given this place many a chance cus some of my friends love it but I just do not like it here. The food is pretty decent if you come before 8. But as far as a bar goes, the bartenders always seem to hate that I'm ordering. Even though I've worked in food service for 4 years and know how to treat staff. Nothing worse than being polite and understanding to a wait staff and they still act like you're a bother. My worst experience was when I went once and the bouncer randomly said he might not let me in cus they thought my DELAWARE ID was fake! It'd be one thing if DE was far away but really it's 30 mins away and I've lived in WC for years. The only reason they allowed me in was bc my friend who I was w is a regular here and had to tell the bouncer I was w her. Their drinks are never that good and it's always way too packed to enjoy yourself. The only time I ever enjoyed myself here out of maybe 50 times (again, continuously dragged here by friends), I came here late on 4th of July weekend and there was no one there and I was able to sit in a booth w a group of friends and not have people up against our table dancing. I've been here many times, and it has always been awesome, no wonder it's so popular! Has a lot of variety, and great beer. One thing though, is today, my 17-year-old daughter and her friend tried to go there for lunch, but the bouncer wouldn't allow them in because they weren't 21... now to be fair, it is St. Patrick's Day. But I just find it odd that they weren't allowed in even though it was only 2 PM, not like it was 8 o'clock at night. They tried to reason with the bouncer, saying that they weren't going to drink, they were just there to eat, to which he replied "well you can't sit at a bar if you're not 21," and my daughter reiterated, in plain English, that they weren't going to sit at the bar, instead, at an actual table, eating normal food, not drinking. No luck there. It is ridiculous that a couple of teenagers can't just go there, relax, and have lunch. I told some people about this and many agreed that it was weird that my daughter and her friend were refused service because of their age. Even if it is St. Patrick's Day, it is still ridiculous. read more

Ryan's has the best Prime Rib in West Chester. That is the only reason we go there. And to Stephen, perhaps you should have stayed in Coatesville with your cigar, or maybe even Texas, since there is no more smoking in Pennsylvania food establishments. read more

Ryan's is a good pub! The food is definitely a few steps above other pub food. The hot roast beef sandwich is a favorite! Apps are good! Beer list could use some more bottle choices, but all in all the list meets "bar approval." Bartenders and waitresses can sometimes be a hit or a miss, but that's a 70/30. Inside is nice and offers two floors. Deck is to dark for my liking. Out front seating is nice but you have to accept loud cars (radios and occasional exhaust pipes) as well as smoke from passing people. That's anywhere in WC. Outside is great on a nice night! We had visited Ryan's Pub before for lunch once before and had an okay experience then. Last night though was possibly the worst dining experience we've ever had. To begin, we were seated in a table too small for eating at that wobbled the entire time. Then we weren't even half way into our appetizer when the salads came out (even though we specifically asked the waitress to wait to put the order in so we weren't rushed). My husband's Caesar salad seemed fine, but the garden salad I got was not dressed and the tomatoes and cucumbers were so large I had to cut them up. The plate it was on was so small everything kept falling off of it. It took me 5 minutes just to cut up the salad and dress it. Then, I'm only two bites into my salad when our entrees come out. My husband's crab cake was nothing special but nothing terribly wrong with it other than he wanted ketchup and the waitress waited 5 minutes after our food came out to see if we needed anything. My entree however, the tortellini, tasted like it had cleaner in it. It was absolutely terrible. I had ordered that same item the last time we were there for lunch and it was delicious. Something was really wrong with it. When we finally have to ask for the check, the waitress takes 5 minutes to bring it out, then never returned when we needed change. Eventually we had to go to the bar to get the change and just left the money on the table. Finally, when we left we had to literally push through 50 excessively drunk college students, one of whom fell and knocked me over. I have been to plenty of restaurant pubs that double as a watering hole, but there is ample separation between the two areas. This bar should not be permitted to call itself a restaurant. We will never be returning there again. read more
