I want everyone to be aware of my story if they ever go to Sutter Health Palo Alto Medical…read moreFoundation for any type of check up. In July 2021, I went to see Qia (Andy) Zhang at one of their hospital locations in Burlingame for a regular annual physical exam. I am a healthy individual going in just for a check up. My health insurance is one of the premium levels of insurance provided by Apple. Between my husband and me, we pay ~$300 per month for this premium health insurance. Since August, I received multiple bills from Sutter Health charging me excess of $300 dollars for various tests that I had no clue were administered. After multiple calls to both the billing department and UHC, I found out that I was tested for a variety of things including rubella antibodies and more. They were all coded as "preventative - general adult medical examination without abnormal findings" but in speaking with doctor friends, these are generally not needed in a normal, healthy adult's annual check up. Even if the doctor did want to test something special, he should have disclosed it and coded it appropriately. If you are a doctor, you can let me know. I tried calling Qia Zhang to find out more. I never received any call back. The billing department was worse. I talked to multiple people who outrightly blamed me for getting charged. Saying that it's my responsibility to know what I need to be tested for and exactly which tests are covered under my insurance. To be clear, the doctor did no disclose to me anything about what he was going to test me for. I also never received any results from any test. Another billing rep said that if it was just a regular physical, I should not have disclosed any discomfort to the doctor which could have triggered the doctor to run extra tests. The only thing I told Qia Zhang was that my stomach was feeling funny for a couple months back but now I was fine. This is not my first, second, or third annual check up. I am 30+ now and have done enough annuals but I have never been told that I shouldn't disclose to the doctor if there is anything wrong with me at an annual exam. I have never experienced a bill for an annual even when I had much worse insurance at other companies. In sharing my story with other Apple employees, we found out that many people have had similar experiences with Sutter Health, one of whom was charged over $1200 just for an annual exam. Right now, we are at a limbo where UHC says it's Sutter Health's issue and vice versa and I'm in the middle stuck with a large bill. It really is not the money at this point, it's the principal of the matter. My husband and I are lucky enough to have full time jobs during this pandemic. What if this large bill landed on someone who was less fortunate? Everyone, please be careful when you go to the doctor's, especially Sutter Health. We have since heard too many horror stories about their tactics. It is really sad that the medical and insurance system cannot be trusted.

I've read all the 24 existing reviews and agree with almost all of them, positive and negative. Dr…read moreLing is indeed very knowledgeable and very skilled. But she's also over booked and rushed. She's sometimes running late. She's been my primary care physician for over 2 years, and except for my first appointment with her, every encounter has been very quick and a bit cold. Transactional I guess. The only reviews I didn't understand were the ones that say she is warm and caring. I'm of Chinese descent but I don't speak Chinese and my family isn't culturally Chinese. So maybe the definition of "caring" I have is different. Most of her front desk staff are cranky and don't smile or make eye contact. Maybe they're stressed. But there is one, a young man, who is very nice. He is American like me and feels culturally like me. Dr Ling's impeccable skills and this young gentleman are two of the three reasons I give this practice 4 stars. The 3rd reason is because Dr Ling does try to squeeze people in (likely the very reason she's so busy), and I recently got lucky to be one who was squeezed in. I'd been experiencing "female organ" pain but my obgyn didn't have appts for over a week. I got a video call with Dr Ling minutes after I called the office. She had my chart, reminded me of the same issue I had 18 months ago, and prescribed the same medication. She also gave another prescription for prevention. Her staff sent in the 2 medications to Walgreens. Awesome! But this Walgreens in ssf turned out to be really bad. They kept losing the main one I needed. So Dr Ling's staff kept trying, finally resorting to a phone call, which is unusual these days because it takes time. So it turned out that one of the women at the front desk, and the nice young man pulled through for me even after 5pm when their office closes. So all in all, my net rating of Dr Jie Ling and staff is very positive. And maybe they're getting better at being more caring and nice by my definition. It seems so!

This review is a mixed bag. Dr Fulleman is a good doctor I…read morelike her and would give her four stars without a doubt. She listens, takes her time with you, and actually examines you. On the other hand, Dr. Leykina is a DISASTER. I have seen her twice now when I've needed a same day appointment- both times I've had a sinus infection. And both times she's asked me what type of antibiotics I would like to take. DO NOT SEE DR LEYKINA. She is also habitually late. I waited a half hour for her once, and today I waited one full hour. On a positive note, the woman who does lab work is so good at drawing blood you barely notice when she's poked you- even though I hate having my blood drawn, I am not afraid to have it done here. While often overwhelmed and a little bit disorganized, I have to say the front desk staff is very nice and I've never had billing issues or had to wait too long for an appointment.

I agree with the negative experiences others have had here. The people at the front desk are quite…read moredisorganized; every time anyone called me to "confirm" an appointment, I was given a time that was different than my original appointment time. I was also recommended several tests that were not covered by my insurance; a fact which I only discovered when I received the bills in the mail. Granted, insurance is as much a confusing nightmare for practices as it is for consumers, but just a warning of "your insurance might not cover this and you should call them before getting it done" would have gone a long way, as opposed to "I recommend you get this test and you might as well do it right now." I was also given a blood allergy test with no warning that it can return a false positive. My allergy tests indicated that I was allergic to everything that they test for (including onions, rice, potatoes...pretty much every component of a human diet). This seemed like a pretty obvious sign of a false positive, but the doctor I spoke to didn't seem to be aware this was possible. Near as I can recall, our conversation was: "So, you're very allergic." "Um, I guess so." "You must be very sick." "Actually, I feel fine." "Oh." I then waited for a follow up response--any kind of insight beyond "Oh". Eventually, sensing none was forthcoming, I excused myself, because I had work to get to. (And due to the aforementioned lack of warning regarding insurance coverage, I later received a bill of over $250 for the test.) I had other experiences here that were less negative, but never any that rose above adequate. I would definitely recommend that you seek your health care elsewhere.

She actually rolled her eyes at me when I said I work out but was feeling very out of shape. I had multiple complaints and no other history of illness. There was no reason for her not to believe me and she delayed my getting real help for months. Moving from unpleasant to incompetent: she told me my test results were fine (PTH) but when I read the report the test WASN'T EVEN RUN. Upon pointing this out to her, she indicated it was probably fine anyway. I insisted we re-run it and it was a very typical clue to my diagnosis. It turned out I had a 3.5 cm nodule on my thyroid which was cancerous and a parathyroid that had to be removed as it had stopped working. Even if I could forgive the miserable attitude, giving patients wrong test results is downright incompetent.

She was patient with her exam but unfortunately, all she did was to suggest to monitor my symptoms by downloading a generic wellness phone app. This was one of the worst diagnoses I have received from any doctor. The next day, I made an appointment outside One Medical with someone who could provide more helpful medical advice. On top of this, I received $$$ bill from One Medical. When I called their billing department to check on the bill, they thought I was calling to negotiate and they automatically reduced it in half. I complained to my employer who had to follow up with One Medical to sort out the coverage. Such a hassle, avoid and go to a real clinic and a real doctor.
