A Doctor Who Truly Cares About Her Patients I came to know Dr. Ling through my husband. At the time, I wasn't having a good experience with my previous doctor's office, so my husband suggested that I ask to see Dr. Ling. I'm very grateful that Dr. Ling was willing to accept me as a patient. From my experience, Dr. Ling truly cares about the individual health of each of her patients. She doesn't just treat a test result or prescribe medication and send you on your way. She takes the time to understand the issue, orders the appropriate tests, reviews the results, and develops a plan to address the problem. One example is my blood pressure. It had been difficult to control, and several doctors had tried different medications. Some of the medications caused unpleasant side effects. Dr. Ling patiently worked with me, trying different medications and combinations until we found an approach that works. Today, my blood pressure is under control and, importantly, I'm not experiencing the side effects I had before. Another example is my bone health. I needed treatment that involved injections, but I really don't like shots and was also concerned about the cost. Instead of simply telling me that injections were my only option, Dr. Ling was willing to discuss a pill alternative and let me try it. If it works for me, it could save me both the inconvenience of injections and a significant amount of money. I really appreciate that she considers both my health and my concerns. Recently, I also needed a special lab test because of a hereditary health issue in my family that could potentially affect me. I brought the request to the office, and they were able to schedule me for an appointment the very next day. When I arrived, I waited less than 10 minutes, and Dr. Ling reviewed the request and signed the lab order right away. The office staff are also very thoughtful--they routinely ask whether I need any medication refills when I'm there. The office staff are friendly, helpful, and responsive as well. One time, my husband and I discovered that our online pharmacy had significantly increased the price of one of our medications. We asked the office to change the pharmacy, and they took care of it right away so I could get my refill the same day. They even allowed me to keep one particular medication at a different pharmacy because it was much less expensive there. Overall, my husband and I have had a wonderful experience with Dr. Ling and her staff. What stands out most is that we feel like real patients, not just numbers. Even though the office is busy, we never feel like Dr. Ling is simply trying to rush us out the door. She listens to our concerns and genuinely wants to find solutions that work for us. With all the stories we hear these days about how difficult it can be to find a good primary care doctor, we feel very fortunate to have Dr. Ling as our PCP. Knowing that we can see her in a timely manner for regular checkups as well as unexpected health concerns gives us tremendous peace of mind. I believe Dr. JL is excellent based on her profile; however, try to get past her front desk staff who give attitude and create issues when things are simple to become established as a patient. If you are Asian and speak Chinese you will be treated better than if you are a non-Asian/non-Chinese speaker. You never have the chance to speak with JL directly as everything is filtered by staff who miscommunicate and misunderstand the situation in English. read more

My complaint is about the office. I signed up with a different insurance company in November last year. When I signed up, I selected Dr. Ling as my primary physician. At that time, she was accepting new patients. I got my insurance card with her name on the card as my PCP. Besides, I have seen her a few years ago. Yesterday, I called to make an appointment for a physical check up. The office told me that the doctor doesn't accept new patients. I told them Dr. Ling is my PCP. I gave her my phone # and insurance ID #. She told me she will call me back. I never received a call back. I called my insurance and they contacted the doctor's office. End up that the doctor's office told my insurance company that they're too busy and no appointments are available for me. I really don't understand how the system works. Even though you have a PCP, you can't rely on your PCP to take care of your health. Besides, I believe that the doctor and her medical group receives monthly payments from my insurance company. This is ridiculous! At the end, I have to switch my primary care physician. read more

Updated Nov 2024 TLDR: DO NOT RECOMMEND due to chaotic management and potential extra charges Here is what happened today: I called around 9am to ask if the doctor can send my EXISTING prescription to a WALLGREENS in Las Vegas because I am out of town and forgot to bring it. The person took the phone and said ok, she'd ask the doctor around lunch time. Passed lunch time, around 2, I called again, the person said she'd ask. Nothing happened. Around 3:38, I called AGAIN, because the Wallgreens I mentioned would be closed at 6pm. The pharmacy will need time to refill the prescription. I was frustrated and mad, and the person who answered the phone just put me on hold for ~6 mins without saying anything. WOW my time is so not worth it huh? Around 5, I got a call saying the prescription was sent. I was told the prescription was sent. I was outside, it was loud. I could not hear the person very clearly, but I trusted the person on the phone. Yeah thanks to my naive trust the prescription was sent to the CVS, next to where I live. To recap, the whole point for this is that I am OUT OF TOWN and FORGOT my PRESCRIPTION. If I could get it in the CVS next to my home, I could get the drugs I have at home. Simple logic, right? The staff has shown NO RESPECT and the management seems to be chaotic. Plus, I think I was mischarged for extras. I sent the email in April, and guess what? It is November, and there is still no response. When charging for visits, regardless of whether I hit deductibles or not, their staff seems to always try to charge me $100. Does that make sense? Can you respond to my email? I used to be such a fan of Dr. Jie Ling cuz she's also Chinese. I trust my own people. After today's experience, with my frustration, the little respect I receive, the false promises I get, the "I dont give a f" attitude I face, I am no longer recommending Dr. Jie Ling to anyone, and I indeed owe an apology to all my friends that I mistakenly recommend this doctor to. read more

I have been Dr, Ling's patient for almost 10 years. I feel lucky that I found her as my family doctor. 3 months ago, I was planning for a vacation. Before I left, I went to see Dr. Ling. She is as kind as she always is. She checked our existing problems, prescribed for medicine refill, give advises to us to prevent possible flus that was spreading fast in China. She also subacribed a few new medicines just in case we got sick. We are now back to the US and the travel of China is really nice. Our relative in China got flu, but since we are well prepared, the flu did not catch us. At our age, a long trip was always exhausting. But since Dr. Ling well prepared for us, and we followed her instructions strictly, we had a safe vacation and were able to fully enjoy th trip. Many Thanks to Dr. Ling from our heart! Dr. Ling has both Diagnostics PHD and Pharmaceutics PHD。 The Combination of the educations plus her kind and caring personality really made her the best family doctor of the United States. The front desk staff are also VERY nice. When we walked into the clinic, they welcome us with smile and greeting. When they found out that we need prescription refill , they quickly went through the process and contacted my insurance company to get the permission and contacted the pharmaceutical store right away. I've been Dr Ling's patient since 2022 and the experience has been great. For existing patients, Dr Ling is easy to schedule (typically on the same week), and she also offers tele appointment which is convenient. The front office is also responsive - when they receive lab or imaging results, they will make sure to call patient on the same day. Dr. Jie Ling has been our family doctor for nine years. She has helped me and my family take care of our health, especially during the difficult days of the pandemic. I provided a 5-star review on this site a couple of years ago. She was a great support when we were isolated at home and felt depressed. Even during those difficult days, she remembered and made sure that we had all check-ups done timely and all maintenance prescriptions refilled promptly. We have felt lucky that with her help, we cleared the pandemic period safe and healthy. Dr. Ling and her clinic have become a warm and homelike place where we seek medical and psychological assistance. Some recent events prompted me to write this review today. Some weeks ago, I went downtown SF on Friday, not realizing it was one of the hottest days during the heat wave. I walked in the midday sun for a couple of hours and returned home feeling dizzy. When I tried to sleep over the sick feeling, instead of getting better, I started to cough and feel like vomiting. My wife got concerned because of a new COVED9 virus rumored to show high mortality. She called Dr. Ling. It was about the clinic closing hour and Dr. Ling was with a patient. Surprisingly, she called back after closing time. When she listened to my symptoms and my wife's concerns, she calmed us and told it that it was unlikely that I would have caught COVID, and that all symptoms pointed towards heatstroke/dehydration. She gave some instructions, asked my wife to watch for development, and told us to call her should something more serious happen (luckily, nothing serious happened). Then the week before last, we missed an appointment. When we received the reminder from the clinic, we felt quilt and tried to make up ASAP. Dr. Ling agreed to have an online consultation - she did it at 5 in the next afternoon. We later learned that she was extremely busy that week because she was going to take her rare vacation soon. She was trying to take care of her patients before she left. During the online conference, Dr. Ling went over all our physical examinations results, reminded us of the annual or periodical examinations we need to complete. She recommended a new medicine for my wife and carefully explained what to watch out for. Dr. Ling just would not leave her patients unattended timely even when she herself badly needs some escape from her daily duties (I wish she is enjoying this hard-earned vacation in a foreign land). read more

I'm not one that writes a review at the slightest mishap on the part of a business. I have given this Dr's office 3 years, to develop our relationship. Sadly, and for my well-being, I need to go elsewhere. Even when I brought an issue to the Dr., I got answers that were unsatisfactory/didn't make sense. If you have a medical issue you need resolved, this is not a Dr. I recommend. The front desk of Dr. Ling's office is extremely frustrating to deal with, especially with one of the girls. Unless you are Chinese, English is not their primary language, with their heavy accents, one is always asking them to repeat. If I described all the run-ins I've had with them, this review would be even longer. When it comes to issuing prescription medication, this Dr. will prescribe, for example, in my case, 3 prescriptions without referring me to a specialist to really find out the problem. In short. I do not recommend this Dr.'s office. You can message me privately if you have questions or need further explanation. I had my first visit with my new Dr. today and already I feel encouraged that this will be a much better and pleasant experience and feel that I'm in good, caring hands. I've been to this clinic twice pre-COVID and in both times the doctor was late for over 20 mins. During Covid, I had a virtual visit where the doctor made me wait for over 40mins. And today I went for an in-person annual visit, I was late for 10 mins. When I arrived, the front desk girl simply told me my appointment was canceled as the doctor is seeing another patient and there's no way to schedule me for that day. I cannot imagine they planned to do my annual physical for less than 10 mins. This gave me a feeling that they are constantly overbooked and the clinic is operating for commercial purposes rather than to care for patients. Not a good experience. read more

I've read all the 24 existing reviews and agree with almost all of them, positive and negative. Dr Ling is indeed very knowledgeable and very skilled. But she's also over booked and rushed. She's sometimes running late. She's been my primary care physician for over 2 years, and except for my first appointment with her, every encounter has been very quick and a bit cold. Transactional I guess. The only reviews I didn't understand were the ones that say she is warm and caring. I'm of Chinese descent but I don't speak Chinese and my family isn't culturally Chinese. So maybe the definition of "caring" I have is different. Most of her front desk staff are cranky and don't smile or make eye contact. Maybe they're stressed. But there is one, a young man, who is very nice. He is American like me and feels culturally like me. Dr Ling's impeccable skills and this young gentleman are two of the three reasons I give this practice 4 stars. The 3rd reason is because Dr Ling does try to squeeze people in (likely the very reason she's so busy), and I recently got lucky to be one who was squeezed in. I'd been experiencing "female organ" pain but my obgyn didn't have appts for over a week. I got a video call with Dr Ling minutes after I called the office. She had my chart, reminded me of the same issue I had 18 months ago, and prescribed the same medication. She also gave another prescription for prevention. Her staff sent in the 2 medications to Walgreens. Awesome! But this Walgreens in ssf turned out to be really bad. They kept losing the main one I needed. So Dr Ling's staff kept trying, finally resorting to a phone call, which is unusual these days because it takes time. So it turned out that one of the women at the front desk, and the nice young man pulled through for me even after 5pm when their office closes. So all in all, my net rating of Dr Jie Ling and staff is very positive. And maybe they're getting better at being more caring and nice by my definition. It seems so! read more

The review is for Dr Ling's assistant, not Dr Ling, since I didn't see her. As soon as I entered the clinic, I lost cellphone signals. After some wait, I asked if I can step outside to get signals. The front desk said no and the assistant took me inside to get blood pressure, etc. The assistant blamed me: you are the only one who doesn't have cell phone signal here. Everyone else has. After the blood pressure is done, I asked again if I can go outside to get some signals. The assistant told me that the doctor would come after finishing the previous patient. I've been a patient of Dr. Ling for over a year and I will stop going to her office. Recently, I had two consecutive cancellations, both attributed to Dr. Ling's family emergency. The first rescheduling occurred in October, and when I called 1.5 hours before my November appointment, the front desk informed me of another family emergency and the need to reschedule. I expressed frustration that they hadn't notified me earlier, only to be told that they planned to call me later. Additionally, the front desk told me Dr. Ling mentioned everything was fine with me. I was like based on what? Based on the office visit exactly one year ago? The front desk shut up at this moment and acknowledged yea the last appointment was a year ago. I never really had a primary care doctor since I have ppo and always went to whoever I can book first. After I gave birth my gynecologist who I really like referred me to dr ling and she's soooo friendly and helpful! I started making my husband to go see her as well. She's really graceful, and has really good bedside manners. Her clinic does serve a lot of chinese patients (I'm chinese) and they all can speak Chinese. I was seeing another primary doctor in Burlingame years ago. I didn't like the experience with my previous primary doctor and was in search for a replacement. Dr. Ling was referred to me by my OBGYN Dr.Zhou (by the way, Dr. Zhou is amazing!). I am so glad that I found Dr. Ling. My whole family have become Dr. Ling's patients. Her staffs are friendly and helpful. Appointments have been on time. Dr. Ling is very knowledgeable and professional. One time, I was having nerve pain. I called their office and was told to go to the office right away. During the visit, Dr. Ling asked me some questions and diagnosed that I had shingles while I didn't have any rashes. Because Dr. Ling's early detection (within the first 72 hours of having symptoms) and prescribed an antivirus medicine to me, the progress of my shingles were under control. I didn't get much painful rashes and they healed pretty fast. Dr. Ling has a PhD in Pharmaceutical Science, which give me some comfort when taking the medicine she prescribed. Dr. Ling is also very patient. She always give me time to ask questions. I feel that my family and I are in good caring hands. By the way, her sister Iris also works at the clinic. Honestly, Dr. Ling isn't a terrible doctor. She was easy to get an appointment with whereas other doctors in the area I'd have to book months out. My main issue with her is that she is a racist... She was trying to make a comment regarding my mental health when she randomly brought up that Mexicans work on the field and they are still happy every day. I was incredibly stunned and offended by this blatantly racist statement. It made me extremely uncomfortable. Additionally, her staff are really rude and curt. The office seems incredibly unsanitary, tiny, and stuffy. I would not recommend going to her office to any of my friends or family because I did not feel safe or welcomed there. read more

Dr Ling is very professional and attentive, She has broad experience. She is also very friendly and thoughtful. A few times, I needed to see her urgently so she worked extended hours to see me. I referred a few friends to her, they were all extremely happy with her services. Dr Ling is connected to a very good network of specialists where she sends you if needed. She referred me to two excellent GI and orthopedic doctors. She is also very considerate about your out-of-pocket costs and takes this into account when recommending a test or imaging facility. read more

Almost 3 years ago I was searching for a new primary dr/obgyn per new insurance. Before I made my decision on who to choose, I read many many reviews on yelp. There were mixed reviews but most thought dr. Ling was great so I went with her. I live near USF in San Francisco and will gladly make the drive to see her. Her and her staff are really amazing.
