I have been a patient of Dr. Lakowsky for sometime now and I do find him very pleasant and helpful. I am shocked by what I read of the reviews. Yes he does put his feet up, but for me I find that relaxing in his own atmosphere which makes me relax. Nothing wrong with that. Secondly I don't blame him for not prescribing medication over a telehealth call without seeing you in person in order to see what kind of illness you have. Could also be blamed and have a lawsuit for wrong medication. My visits with Dr. Lakowsky had him listen and be attentive to me and my issues. He does a through check and makes recommendations of medication or referrals that help. Alice the receptionist is very pleasant and knowledgeable and works well with Dr. Lakowsky to get you the best care. Overall I find this office very professional and does take care of their patience. Avoid at all costs. A year ago, I had a telehealth visit with Dr. Lakowsky. I'll never forget it. He was dismissive and condescending, and ultimately chose not to help me. I explained I had been taking a cough suppressant for 10 days, and during a hurricane I was scared to let my bronchitis go untreated any longer with local doctors' offices being closed, and roads being flooded. He advised me to take another cough suppressant, told me to "go see someone else in person", and denied my request and appeals for antibiotics. I was lucky to get another telehealth appointment with another doctor later in the same day who was very concerned for me and prescribed me not only an antibiotic, but also a steroid because my condition was so advanced. She said it would affect my kidneys if I didn't start taking antibiotics immediately. I was able to get a refund for the call with Dr. Lakowsky from the telehealth company, as they agreed his prescription was counterproductive. Today 11 months later, he has mailed a new paper bill to my house. Do not use this doctor. read more

I did an online 'urgent care' appointment. I asked for the next available doctor and got Alexander Lakowsky, MD. I explained that I had bronchitis symptoms that had been passed around my family and now it was my turn to get sick. My Mom had been given antibiotics and started improving within a couple of days. Dr. Lakowsky told me I had a viral infection and that antibiotics would not help me. Instead he said he would prescribe a medication that would relieve my symptoms and I would be better within a few days. Bronchitis can be viral or bacterial, if coughing up colored sputum. He never asked if I was coughing up anything, which I was. I was exhausted and didn't think to tell him that at the time. I was skeptical, but he refused to budge and only told me to use a room humidifier and stand in the bathroom with the shower going for warm humidity/mist to help. When I got to the pharmacy, I discovered he prescribed a cough suppressant pill. Pfft, that was worthless. So I got zero help from this doctor. It was a complete waste of time and money. I have left two messages with the receptionist to have one of them call me as I was hospitalized this past weekend and need to have urgent referral. This is what the specialist told me to ask for from my primary doctors office. The receptionist doesn't think I need an urgent referral. She thinks I need a regular referral although I am bleeding internally and required a transfusion at the hospital. It is now Friday and I have not heard a thing from my doctor's office after leaving messages with her. She is incredibly unprofessional and she is playing with people's health and life. If Yelp had the option for zero stars, that's what I would give Dr. Lakowsky! He has horrible bedside manner and comes off pretentious and arrogant! This was my second and last visit to this doctor. Dr. Lakowsky isn't a good listener and doesn't take the time to understand your concerns and problems. He doesn't explain his views and has the look of "your wasting my time" as you're sitting there telling him your symptoms. His manners definitely rub off on his staff because they don't have good bedside manner either! The office manager is hostile and rude. The times I've called for an appointment, I've been put on hold before I can even get a word in. The only reason why I saw Dr. Lakowsky is because I was trying to see Dr. Batlin, who came highly recommended by my friend (they share the same office). Unfortunately for me, Dr. Batlin wasn't around both times I needed an appointment. If you want to feel belittled, go to Dr. Lakowsky. Otherwise, I highly advise you to seek care elsewhere. read more

My husband and I are new patients. Setting an appointment with the receptionist lady have shown no phone etiquette already. Upon checking our insurance multiple times which is supposed to be their jobs and looking at me as I don't know what type insurance I have. A horrible front desk ever you dealing with. As months passed. Finally got my statement of co pays. My husband and I owed total of 200 out of pocket cost. His receptionist have to call my work just to collect co pays. I managed a dental office and I collect co pays as well with manners. I hope all the staff of this practice go on training how to handle patient care and handling phone etiquette. read more

A friend of mine recommended Dr. Lakowsky. I made my appointment on the phone for the following day. I came in and after verifying my ID and talking a picture for my computerized chart I was speaking with the doctor within 5 minutes. No long forms, no crazy wait. Dr. Lakowsky examined me and recommended a course of action. It is true that he was noting my answers in the computer and was typing as we spoke -- that is today's world. The entire visit with him and subsequent interaction with him and his staff as well as his recommended medical vendors have been quick and painless. I've seen him twice and honestly I don't know why I went back after my experience on my first visit. As far as I could tell Dr Lakowsky was googling my symptoms while I was in the office. My "physical" consisted of him listening to my breathing with the stethoscope. I've received more personalized service from the guy who changes the oil in my car . On my second visit a year later there were two other doctors that walked into the office with him, he never asked if I would mind if there were other people present, It was incredibly uncomfortable. First of all, I understand that going in for an emergency visit for a referral as my first appointment was not the most desirable situation, and forgetting my insurance card was probably not too smart either- but these things aside, I am still a human being in pain and Lakowsky essentially told me nothing was wrong with me, that it was perfectly fine to take 8 times the recommended daily dose of Advil and referred me to an out of network doctor. I work six days a week, it's next to impossible for me to get any time off, even for medical emergencies. I explained this when I made my appointment. I work for a doctor, I know how this stuff works, and I get being in a bad mood, but letting your patients suffer because of your personal feelings is inexcusable. Now I'm stuck with a three week long ear infection in BOTH ears, and no time to get back to the doctor. Amazing!! It's refreshing to know your doctor has your back. It's been a tough year for me snd my family. Dr Lakowsky has always been supportive and informative. I trust him implicitly. He referred my sister to an increfible oncologist. My sisters life flourished for 2 yrs and I believe it was the care she got. personalkt, Dr Alex has been right there...a needed stent in my heart to knee replacement, my sisters death (2 days later), sprained ankle on same leg, depression, medication.... I'm new to the area and new to the country. My work took me to SF from Europe and since I have a couple of issues I needed to find a doctor. My work colleague recommended Dr Lakowsky and I'm glad they did! His office runs like a well oiled machine, almost no wait time, fast and very efficient. He was very up to date on my condition and new exactly what I needed. He asked good questions and seemed to be genuinely interested in my condition. Setting up prescriptions and lab work was very easy as well. The office is modern and they utilize latest technology, which is a plus. Long overdue review but I absolutely love Dr. Lakowsky and the staff. No matter what I come in for they make time to listen, call me back, squeeze me in if I need a last minute appointment and make sure I feel comfortable with treatment(s). Dr. Lakowsky has been my primacy physician for over ten years and I have changed my insurance plan to make sure I can keep seeing him. Finding a great doctor who understands your needs and makes you feel comfortable is hard to get. He doesn't just come in and leave after 5 minutes...he takes the time to get to know you and your needs. I have asthma, severe food allergies and allergies. Despite all this, Dr. Lakowsky is careful not to overmedicate me and double check drug interactions and keep me healthy. His staff also shine. From the front desk to nurses, each person genuinely cares and super nice. Even though you are probably here when you are sick and feeling crappy you come out feeling better and happier. read more

Went in for a skin condition that popped up overnight. This was late February. Didn't have a primary and needed to be seen. Read some of the reviews, but decided to go with Dr. Lakowsky nonetheless - not a great decision. The reviews about him typing away while you're trying to talk to him, being cold and having a "waste of time" look on his face, are all accurate. I was seen for a total of 7 minutes, this INCLUDED the pre-exam of listening to my breathing, looking at my throat, etc. I was in and out of the office within 15 minutes. Might be convenient for some, but for others that actually want to know what's going on with their health...not so much. Dr. Lakowsky looked at my face for less than 10 seconds, and told me he was writing a prescription. DID NOT tell me what was wrong with my skin and DID NOT tell me what the medication was. I had to ask, as I was being escorted out the door, what was wrong with my skin and what kind of medication he was prescribing. I got the very quick answer of "It's rosacea." Well that's great, doc, thanks. What can I do about it? Are there triggers? Who does it affect? What can I do to quell it without the use of medication? He asked where I wanted my prescription sent and that was that. It would have been nice to have a more thorough visit and explanation, but I guess that's not his style. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not a fan of a doctor so quick to prescribe pills without even talking to the patient about it... and call me crazy but I'd actually like to know what's going on with my body. Was going to give two stars, but after my experience with the office staff, I had to dock. Literally just hung up with a member of the office team about 10 minutes ago: About a month after my visit, got a bill in the mail for a $45.00 copayment. I remembered I had paid my copay at the time of the appt, and saw the charge on my Chase statement. Called the office to see what's up... The "Billing Department" aka Lori, was very helpful and kind. However, she shared with me that sometimes payments made by patients aren't always recorded - not a great sign! I urge his patients to double check their statements... seemed a bit sketchy. I ended up faxing them a copy of my statement to clarify the charge, and everything seemed to be squared away. Called back to confirm after receiving a missed call from Lori, and the woman who answered (not Lori) literally rushed me off the phone with a "She just left you a voicemail okay? You're fine, Bye." ...wow. and LOL! ...NEVER going back, and NEVER recommending. read more

Have gone twice since my primary was not available. I felt like I was treated like an idiot. Office and staff wonderful like most of PAMF. Both times called for questions and help. First time he never returned a my call so I continued to take medicine I did to need to be taking (as it turns out). The second visit was after a high speed collision. His exam of me was not complete especially compared to the other passenger and the way she was checked at another doctor. Explained nothing of what I should expect and seemed to not take my knee pain seriously, and finally gave me little direction for after accident care. The next day I called because I could bear no weight on my leg. By the time he returned my call it was Friday after business hours and I was unable to get an X-ray before the weekend. I have few reviews because I only write them when I feel passionately about something and want to show my appreciation for good service or I want to see poor service change. After relocating to the area I needed a new primary care physician. Being a medical professional and having rather high expectations of my future doctor I conducted a thorough research on my potential options and decided to give it a try to the private practice of Dr. Lakowsky. Bingo !!! My hours of research paid off. It was a great experience. Dr. Lakowsky was very calm, knowledgeable, and instilled comfort. His bedside manners are great. I never felt rushed. He is excellent in listening and taking the time to understand your point, problem and concern. He will always take the time to explain his views such that a mutually acceptable approach and plan is developed. His staff is also great. They treat you as a very valuable customer/patient. Communicating with the office is easy. You are not put on hold when calling the office and if it happens it is a very short one. Scheduling an appointment is easy and the office was also great in accommodating my needs and schedule. Both Dr. Lakowsky and the front desk staff are excellent in following up, be so with test results or new appointments. I have been a patient of Dr. Lakowsky for over three years now, which is a sufficient amount of time to identify problems if they are present. There care for the patient is genuine and professionalism is consistently excellent. I decided to find another doctor because he doesn't seem to like his profession or he is bored to listen people complaints. I visited him twice and both visits were bad, I was telling my symptoms to him and seems that he didn't hear a word, he just sent me to have a blood test, after that, he said that I was totally OK and I don't have to worry about that. My last visit was the same story, I had a chest and lower back pain and he didn't care about that, just typing on his computer while I was talking to him. He said that I'm OK, nothing to worry about. I would give -1 star if the system allowed it. Dr. Lakowsky is very inpatient and arrogant and the representatives at his office are even worse. The doctor is too lazy to send information to patients digitally. They are very old school. You need to drive to the office to get the doctor advice on piece of paper. Or you need to listen to the old ladies in the office by phone call, who are really arrogant and speak very poor English. They often hang up your phone call in the middle too. Found doc on insurance website. I was glad i was seen the same day, and i was still seen even though i was late, and there was no waiting time. I really liked the medical assistant, she was super warm, kind and cool. Definitely is an asset coz she really has a welcoming attitude. The doctor was straight to the point and seemed good at what he does, better than my kaiser permanente physician, who always seemed lost and crazed. Really clean and sterile office, and follow up through website is awesome and easy!!! I like to think of myself as young and healthy. I see my GYN once a year, get my PAP and off I go! This year, however, I've been bothered by a number of ailments that I've been bugging by gyn about until finally she said, you gotta get a primary!!!! So after hours and hours calling my insurance plans trying to figure out who can see me in network (which, by the way is another review for Blue Cross, they will get like minus five stars) I found Dr. Lakowsky who was able to see me...next day. I was a bit perplexed by the fact that a doc would see someone the next day (why is he available if he is good?) but due to my cough not going away for like nine months I decided I'd bite the bullet. Well, I'm sure glad I did. The office itself looks nice and clean since it's a brand new medical office building. It is (for my taste) a bit too sterile and impersonal and I'd much rather see doctor's office where you are not treated as a number or a dollar sign but I digress. Seeing Dr. Lakowsky and listening to his explanations put my mind at ease and, above all, made sense. He was on time, professional, and knowledgeable. He's fully "computerized" which, according to him allows him to be more efficient and put patients in whenever they need to be "squeezed in". There is a reason why doctors train for years and while my condition could be considered commonplace in medical practice, for someone like me in design industry I had no f-n idea what I had and the fact that he was able to diagnose it, and, above all stop my cough made me feel great. Whether it's true or not I really felt like he cared about me and really wanted to help. He put me on medication and then his office called back a week or so later to see how I was doing and then asked to see me back in follow up. By my second visit my symptoms were gone and he made adjustments to my regiment and now I'm happy to say I can breathe again and that, my fellow Yelpers, cannot be overrated! The last review posted here was based on the dr.'s previous location and office staff. He has moved since then. This is where the problem starts. His office staff is terrible. They do not return calls. They do not send or receive documentation. This leads Dr. Lakosky and any other referral doctors to incorrect conclusions. They were supposed to send my information to another doctor. They did not. The other doctor called me and told me to take medication that was not needed based on old data. The lazy incompetents of the staff is very dangerous to the patients. Dr. Lakowski is generally on time and honest. If you have pain that he is not familiar with he will call you crazy. That is what he did to me. Since he did not have all of my results I do not blame him. read more

Always on time for a scheduled appointment and feel very confident with Dr. Lakowsky's streight suggestions and responding to my questions in an open way. Of course, any doctor will give you the advice to stop smoking and drink less alcohol. In any event, today's visit included a review of all the medication I am taking and was given an additional medication to reduce my glucose level. I was looking for Dr Lakowsky's office phone # online and yelp page popped up. I'm not sure if I'm seeing the same doctor the other reviewers have but I have to disagree. As you can see I don't post yelp reviews ever but I would like people to know what kind of doctor he really is. My parents (who were in their 80s) started seeing him about 5-6 years ago and then my husband, myself, and my children joined in. My mother was frail due to bad heart failure and she would make bi-weekly doctor rounds just to stay alive. Dr Lakowsky would literally hold her hand every time she was in the office. There was not much they could do for her medically but kind words, caring, and compassion went such a long way. After she passed, my father found comfort in seeing Dr Lakowsky and thanks to his guidance and advise he's doing as well as I could have hoped. I'm not a young woman myself and I see him every now and then for aches and pains and he's always on top of his game, quick with joke, and sound with advise. I have complete trust in him as does my whole family. As far as his office, it is very rare to find a comforting, non-corporate medical environment these days and they do just that.
