In addition, her staff is friendly and engaging. For my first visit, I was having some alarming symptoms. Her staff made me feel heard and got me in on a cancellation. I had an office visit with Dr. Nene, we discussed my symptoms, she put me at ease but said she would like to get a better look at things. She ordered a colonoscopy and labs. Before I left she made sure I understood what she was concerned about, her medical assistant informed me in writing what the procedures and tests were called and answered all my questions. My procedure went smoothly and she was happy with what she saw given my symptoms. She told me she would follow up once all my lab results were back. She did just that, about a week later she emailed me all my results and told me next steps. For once I have a doctor that is on top of my health instead of me always running after them for answers. I've seen Dr. Nene 3 times since that appointment and each time she made me feel like we were working towards the same goal. My appointment was right before lunch, and he was late by 35 mins so by the time we were done, it was during the admin staffs' lunch hour. After the 15min with Dr Chin, I left the office to use the restroom prior to picking up the lab boxes. When I returned, I found the door to the office to be locked, and spent 5mins outside waiting for the admin to open the door. Why would they lock the door? This isn't a supermarket or Trader Joe's with last minute shoppers trying to get in! The doctor ordered 2 lab tests, and when the admin (heavy set, Filipina I believe) provided me the lab supplies, considering the financial liability form I signed I had a few questions regarding Medicare coverage, she was very short with me. I think she was irritated at dealing with me during her lunch break. Net, she had no answers regarding coverage, and told me to call the numbers on the lab forms. Of course, when I called both numbers the following days (2 diff labs), no one returned my calls. After she provided the lab supplies I left but forgot to grab my hat. So I am banging on the locked door, this time for 10mins before the admin came to open the door. I tried calling but of course no answer, similar to the complaints and comments of the other reviewers. While Dr Chin may be a solid GI doc, the whole experience was a turn off. This medical group should consider spending more $ on the admins/experience, it's not like they cannot afford it. I ended up seeing a GI doc at Stanford who is excellent, informs me of what Medicare covers, and very happy I made the switch.

Dr. Kao and his staff were not only professional but also incredibly warm, caring, and empathetic. He's a doctor who really knows how to get to the bottom of things (no, that won't be the last pun...unfortunately). I was initially nervous about having my procedure done without anesthesia, but the team immediately put me at ease. They explained everything thoroughly and made sure I felt calm and relaxed throughout the process. To my surprise, the procedure wasn't bad at all! Seriously, on a pain scale (1-10) it never got more than a 2--and that was only for about a second. I know pain tolerance is subjective, but I had NO pain during this procedure (Pain is in the brain!). Dr. Kao and his team's calming presence and genuine concern for my comfort made all the difference. I feel bad because I forgot the name of the lovely lady who was talking in my ear and calming me, literally the entire time, while Dr. Kao was....getting to know me. The whole team kept me calm and even made me laugh during the procedure--Who knew a colonoscopy could be this much fun?! Dr. Kao and his team are not just skilled, they're also incredibly compassionate. He and his team never made me feel like just another patient; they treated me like a person and I genuinely felt cared for.
