I called Levenson's office prior to my colonoscopy with a routine question about colonoscopy prep. Surprisingly, the front desk couldn't answer it. Instead of leaving a message for Levenson, they interrupted him while he was with a patient. He was very angry, which is understandable. He berated me for being the one who asked the question, which is not understandable. I don't care if someone wears a white coat. They still need to treat their customers with dignity and manners, which he didn't do that time, so I won't be giving him any more business. If you call the office, make sure to explicitly tell them you want to leave a message for him. You don't want to speak to him if he is with a patient. read more

Dr. Scott Levenson is not only a brilliant physician, he is also a compassionate human being. He takes the time to get to know you and your medical history. Dr. Levenson answers all of your questions and he and his medical team provide detailed and easily understood instructions for the colonoscopy procedure. The office staff and medical team work well together. They communicate well. Their warm, welcoming personalities provide a calm and reassuring environment. Although the prep for the colonoscopy is no one's favorite, the procedure itself is short! With such a caring team it is a healthful and positive, important experience. I saw Dr. Levenson this afternoon as I had an urgent issue that could not wait until my visit next week with Dr. Kao. He wasn't outright rude but didn't seem friendly. I felt that he wasn't interested in discussing an issue that was troubling me for 4 months. He was about to walk me out of his office when I asked "what should I do about my four month nausea?" and his response was to let Dr. Kao deal with it. I later realized the logic didn't make sense as I have only seen both doctors once. If he was a colleague of a doctor I know well, I would have been okay waiting. I cancelled the planned procedure hours after leaving the appointment as I didn't feel comfortable going through it with him. I'm giving him 2 instead of 1 stars because I appreciate he was able to see me the same day I called and is likely overworked due to Dr. Kao being out of the office. Wow, the Dr Levonson my hubby saw was anything like what has been described here. He saw Dr Levonson twice; both times he was aloof, seemed to be bored and spent most of his time typing at his computer: no eye contact, didn't listen and appeared to be completely disinterested. The second visit was recommended by our primary, who suggested we ask for an urgent appt., which Dr. L's office scheduled for noon. My husband was physically very uncomfortable and nervous, but Dr. Levonson said, "so this is was so urgent you needed an appt during lunch?" We need someone local for our colonoscopies, but neither of us would set foot in his office again. read more

I did not find this doctor very trustworthy. I went there for a consultation and brought some test results done previously. He said he will review the test results, do some research on my unusual condition and give me a call. Four weeks and two calls later, I still have not received a call after this man promised me that he would call me, and so did his reception staff. Not good! Will not go back. read more

Terrible, terrible doctor. Spends as little time with you as possible and doesn't seem to give a damn about what you're going through while he is there. Hard to get a hold of over the phone or by email and when you do get a hold of him he seems to want to whisk you off the phone as soon as possible. Whatever happened to a doctor taking the time to answer your questions in detail and address any concerns that you're having about your health? All this guy seems to want to do is prescribe you the medicine that's most recently sponsored his office with Rx incentives. One of my theories as to why this clinic is so lacking in positive patient results is that Dr. Levenson owns the practice so as the boss he has no quality control to answer to and isn't under any pressure to produce results. In fact it actually serves him better financially to have you keep coming back in for prescriptions that don't work or have to be renewed constantly. I'd been seeing Dr. Levenson for 7 months and actually had NEGATIVE progress before finally deciding to seek another doc. Luckily my new doctor is 100 times the MD than Levenson is and has taken more time with me in one visit than all my combined visits with Dr. L. The treatment he and his staff provided during both visits was nothing short of exemplary. I was trying to find my way out of a long-standing issue I was seeing another doctor for--a Stanford G.I., by the way. For years, I had seen no improvement and in fact due to mistakes by my prior doctor, I was experiencing scary and painful consequences, to the point that I was feeling terrorized. I began asking folks in the medical field for other doctors and was referred immediately--first name out of several people's mouths--to Dr. Levenson. I am so glad I found him. He has totally turned this medical situation around. I always appreciate a doctor who meets with you in his or her office to discuss what's going on before an exam. Dr. Levenson has done this every time I've seen him, which I find so humane and respectful. Dr. Levenson is warm and highly competent with a good sense of humor. A strong guy and an obvious athlete, he has a gentleness about him. Considering all the training and degrees he has, he could easily be aloof but he is very easy to talk to. He has shown extraordinary competence and a genuine concern for me and my condition every visit. I really appreciate him and his approach to medicine. As far as anyone can be delighted to go to a G.I., I am happy to see Dr. Levenson and trust him implicitly. read more

If I could give this doctor no stars, I would. This doctor does not care about his patients and I really believe that he did not read my chart before doing any procedures. I went to him because he was referred to me by another doctor, whom I love and trust. She wanted me to go to a hepatologist since a growth was discovered on my liver while having an ultrasound done. I was experiencing great pain everyday and wanted to know what I could do to at least manage the pain. From the beginning Dr. Levenson would argue with me about the source of my pain telling me that it was coming from my ovaries despite my ob/gyn doing two additional pelvic exams and explicitly saying my pain wasn't pelvic related. Finally, after some calls from other doctor, he decided to see me sooner for a followup (he wanted to see me in two weeks). I asked him to prescribe me some pain medication but he refused. His reasons seemed logical: being on many medications over the past 5 years (at least 50 different medications), could have been a reason of my liver being in poor shape since I don't drink and my diet is very healthy. He said to know for sure what's wrong with me and was going to do an endocsopy and colonoscopy to find out. The day of my procedures really made me lack trust in this doctor. First of all, as I was being wheeled into the room, I asked him what he had planned for me, and to my surprised, he was only going to do a colonoscopy. I felt betrayed that he decided to only do ONE of the procedures. Was he ever going to tell me this if I didn't ask? In addition to changing his mind about the colonoscopy, after he was done with the colonoscopy, Dr. Levenson said he found nothing from the procedure and then gave me a prescription for 2 pills to take daily and told me my pain was from irritable bowel syndrome and to see him in a month. WTF. He told me that taking meds were probably causing my liver to be worse and here he was giving me a prescription for two pills? I really believe he did not read my chart at all. Rather, I think he does colonoscopies because he makes more money doing them then a regular office visit.( It was like an assembly line the day of my operation: 5 people were waiting in beds for the procedure at 8 am and one by one, he would wheel them into the room for 15 minutes and then wheel them out. ) So here is why I don't think he cares one bit about his patients: I went into his office with evidence from an ultrasound that I had a growth on my liver and I caught him lying to me about the procedure he planned to do and also contradicting himself by giving me 2 pills to take despite telling me the week before that I shouldn't even take tylenol for my pain. Another reason I think he or his staff doesn't read patients' charts or even care is because the day of my procedure, I told the staff about all my allergies, including my allergy to pineapple. After the procedure, they gave me juice which after I drank, I asked them if it had pineapple juice. Dr. Levenson said, "Not enough for it to have an effect on you." Are you kidding me? Would he give a patient peanuts and tell them the same thing???? I spent my entire weekend vomiting and with a huge migraine from that one sip of juice I had. Luckily my allergy is not life threatening. So please, do not go to this doctor unless you want to be lied too, given inadequate treatment, and left with rectal bleeding and a possible rectal infection after your colonoscopy. I really think I am in worse shape now than when I first started seeing him. read more

Completely impressed by this physician. My father went in for a routine pre-colonoscopy visit and mentioned that he was having back pain and urinary problems for the past week. After examination, Dr. Levenson had my father obtain lab-work, and had him scheduled for a CT scan the same day. By the time my parents returned home, Dr. Levenson himself phoned with the results, and had my father scheduled for an urology appointment - AMAZING! Dr. Levenson even phoned later that day to make sure my father was taken care of. Many physicians wouldn't have bothered once a patient began talking about a problem that wasn't in his/her specialty and in this case, Dr. Levenson went above and beyond, which ultimately saved my father's kidney. I don't understand the other review at all. It certainly is not my experience. I was a patient of Dr. Levenson's about 10 years ago, when he was at Sequoia and then when he started his private practice. I had to switch away because of health insurance/job switch issues, but Dr. Levenson has always been accessible and helpful even though I am now a part-time patient. He has always cared and that is why I always like dealing with him. It is hard to find doctors who really know their stuff and are up-to-date on the latest in treatments. I echo the same experience as Tommy. Dr Levenson is not a caring doctor and he does not spend time with his patients He is very distracted during the visit that is so important for the patient. He does not take time to communicate with his patients and does not instruct the patients of necessary procedure that the patients need to follow. I found most of the information about my sickness and the medication through searching webs after I saw him. I still suffer from pain and the last thing he said to me is I'm sorry and maybe I should take probiotics. He even did not care to find out if the medication he prescribed to me was effective or not. Dr. Scott Levenson single-handedly changed my life. For three years I have been going to different doctors, trying to discover the cause of my nausea and vomitting. I finally was referred to Dr. Levenson and within two weeks, he discovered that I have Celiacs disease. I have gone from feeling like I could barely get out of bed in the morning to having tons of energy throughout the day. I am no longer vomitting after meals and no longer suffer from nausea. After a very short visit to Dr. Levenson's office, I was scheduled for a colonoscopy. Due to my sever health issues, I obtained a second opinion from another doctor, who confirmed Dr. Levenson's wrong diagnosis. I canceled my colonoscopy, and underwent surgery in an emergency situation, following the advice of my second opinion. After calling and explaining the situation to Dr. Levenson, his office proceeded to charged me with a "no show colonoscopy appointment fee", even though I had a surgery less than 72 hours from the Dr. Levenson's scheduled appointment time. After writing his office several letters disputing the fee, not to mention several calls, Dr. Levenson proceeded to file the fee with a debt collection agency. What kind of petty medical specialist harasses a patient over $300, simply because he is upset I did not undergo his detrimental procedure? read more

I was referred to this office by my PCP. I was scheduled to have a routine screening colonoscopy (my first!) with another doctor in this office. She had to cancel due to a family emergency and I was rescheduled with the "medical director" of the practice, Dr. Levenson. I read these 2 reviews on Yelp on the morning of the procedure and became a bit nervous. However, I had a pleasant experience and found Dr. Levenson to be professional and courteous. We didn't spend a lot of time together, as there was no need. It's a quick procedure and he introduced himself and offered to answer any questions before he got started. The office staff, including the front desk, scheduling person, and the nursing staff are all kind and polite. They did their very best to accomodate my schedule. I will go back to this office for any future needs. I dont know who the woman is pictured in this profile but it is not Dr. Levenson. read more
