Dr Spivak is a talented doctor who can do impressive surgery when he wants to. He has a problem with follow through. He abandons patients when business is not lucrative enough. My son had a bad motorcycle accident that resulted in an amputated leg. Dr Spivak was in charge of his reconstructive surgery. 4 surgeries were planned. After the third one, Dr Spivak was no longer available with no communication to patients, office just didn't answer phone and didn't return calls. read more

After searching for some time for a doctor to do my explant I found reviews that Dr. Spivak was good at correcting things and felt comfortable with his personality after meeting him. I have never written a bad review, but feel very discouraged after many months of trying to get through and make things correct. It is a long disappointing story but is as follows. I was informed I would need two surgeries, one to explant and heal, the next to lift. The office was very adamant and the follow up was great when it came to getting money. After the money was received, everything was incredibly unprofessional. I had to take work off to drive up to LA for appointments and they were cancelled or rescheduled day before every time. I had to leave many messages and would never get a call back. There was never the same person working there and one staff member took off and actually charged plane tickets fraudulently under her name to my credit card which is a whole other story. I was forgiving and patient through this all desperate to just get this surgery over with. After the first surgery I ended up in the ER with a huge hematoma football size over my heart. The doctor was on vacation and they have no other doctor available for post opp emergencies so I was instructed to go to the ER immediately. It ran close to $5000 and i could not raise my arm for 6 months and missed another week of work and was in severe pain. My. breast tissue was severely damaged and loose skin from having implants in for so long. At least that is what i was told and I do understand that is likely why. Then next surgery I had three months later. I had to gain 10lbs so he could even them out and put fat in one side I had two different sizes and to get a lift. The doctor told me this was to be under local. A week before surgery I had taken two weeks off and had a friend fly out to care for me, I got a call letting me know they were going to push it back three months to use their new facility because their costs were lower there even though I had paid up several months before. I was devastated after shoving food down when I am a fitness person and unable to workout for three months. I was in tears and let the doctor know how wrong and upsetting to do this right before so they would make moire profit after how patient I was with the staff, unprofessionalism ect. Dr. Spivak then did try to make it right and follow through. That staff member, again left the practice as the others so once again my paperwork was gone, wrong or missing and again noone knew what was going on. The doctor and I rescheduled, and the day before surgery he called me personally and said his head was not in the right place because his wife was ill and he cancelled. Now I completely understand the importance of family, and while upset I was kind and appreciated the honesty and hoped she was ok. Had everything else not happened I wouldn't have been upset at all but more concerned. The doctor calls and is ready 3 days later for the surgery and I go in. He brought in another doctor to consult and go over what was going to happen. Fat taken from hip to even the breasts and a lift. I was awake for the first part and noticed really hardly any fat was taken whatsoever, then I was put to sleep. I was told this surgery would be local as having anesthesia twice in little time with my family history worries me tremendously with memory loss and Alzheimer's strong on both sides. I woke up, I was told 100CC put on one side and 50CC on the other. Even I know this is a completely inaccurate ratio for my breasts being two cup size different. I took the bandage off and they were massively different sizes, the bigger on before still far far bigger AND no lift was done whatsoever. My nipples completely different sizes and the top concave with saggy little fat pockets hanging below. So where is the lift I paid to have done? I cant help but to believe two things, first the OR cost was too high so it was a time issue and it was decided just to go as quick as possible, and two his head was still not in the right place as he stated three days before. Fast forward 6 months, I am left completely deformed and lopsided and doctor and office will no answer or return my calls. They will not even give me the paperwork I signed and I believe they must have lost it. I am a peaceful person and grateful nothing worse happened but I truly regret not finding a far more professional and experienced doctor. Dr. Spivak is a pleasure as far as personality goes, but only when there is money involved. If anything goes wrong you can could they will avoid it at all costs. I believe I was given anesthesia in the second surgery so I could not see that a lift was not being done. This is a very unfortunate story but all very accurate and I can only hope to find someone that can fix it at this point. Fifteen thousand dollars for this kind of treatment. read more

Just want to say how amazing Dr. Spivak is!! He is a true gem!! He is such a nice guy who just made me feel so comfortable right away and I just knew I was in the right hands! My case was a bit more complicated than others due to previous procedures so Dr. Spivak really had his work cut out for him. The procedure was virtually pain free and I felt so at ease with Dr. Spivak and my nurse, Dahlia, was such a sweetheart. I actually had a great time talking to them during my procedure and listening to music. I can tell Dr. Spivak really cares about his patients and their outcome as he took his time with my procedure and he was very meticulous. Dr. Spivak even stayed at the office afterwards to make sure I was feeling okay before I left. He really is a true gem! He also personally followed up with me that same night and also the next day. The whole experience was just so much better than I anticipated. I am only 5 days post-op so it's still way too soon to really see my results, I'm still super swollen but I will post pics as soon as the swelling goes down. I came to Dr Spivak when my insurance referred me to him. I had been overweight almost my whole adult life I am now 36 years old and I've probably been overweight since I was about 22. My insurance approved a tummy tuck as we know it after losing about 80 pounds. I was scared and nervous at first and embarrassed to even go and talk to him because I knew I'd have to show him my belly and I was so insecure about it more than even let on. He's so sweet and kind and nice he never made me feel uncomfortable I actually felt an instant link to him. Like this is the man that is going to change my life and I felt safe with him. Fast forward to my surgery. He took his time to Purrfect my stomach. He took off my love handles on the side so much fat from my stomach and I am recovering very well . He made me a new belly button guys I can't remember the last time I had seen my belly button it's been so many years. tomorrow will be one week from my surgery. And I walked right into his office today to remove the drains. When I looked at my tummy after like 2 days I cried happy tears my stomach was perfect I couldn't believe he had done such a great job. Like I knew he was good because I researched him and heard great things about him but my tummy was so ugly I just thought he was going to make it look better not perfect but it was perfect so perfect that I didn't even know what to say. I was speechless. Literally. My mom and sister fell in love with him when they met him the day of the surgery as did I . He's amazing guys . He also does body sculpting . He's a perfectionist so hes not done until it's perfect even if he has to spend 8 hrs in the room with u he will. He works hard. No one will take better care of u than him. If I could show u guys my before and after You would freak. I look like a whole different person . My stomach has the indents and curves like it's suppose to have . This is an update from my review below. I stand by everything said previously - Dr. Spivak is stellar in his field of Reconstructive Craniomaxillofacial Surgery. He saved my face, and possibly my life. After the two surgeries below - Dr. Spivak did a bone graft surgery to take bone from my hip to rebuild the roof of my mouth and my jaw. What was supposed to be a simple procedure, turned into a 5 hour marathon. Dr. Spivak spoke to my partner throughout the surgery and took the time and care that was required to rebuild my palate and jaw. Afterwards I had a long road to recovery, but Dr. Spivak was there every step of the way. I basically saw him every week for several months. While I had some challenges with closing up an opening between my mouth and nasal cavity, Dr. Spivak hung in there with me and did everything possible to keep the opening closed. I ended up having two more minor surgeries, and am happy to say that I'm getting back to my 'new normal' and the opening in my mouth is closed! I will always have a part of my jaw that is missing, but Dr. Spivak dedicated himself to ensuring that I would have the best possible outcome for a very aggressive disease. I work in the healthcare industry, and I have the opportunity to witness surgeons first hand on a daily basis. I can tell you without a doubt that Dr. Spivak is one of the most caring, compassionate, and talented surgeons out there. Not only does he treat his patients well, but he treats his office staff like gold, as well as his OR team. You literally cannot do any better that Dr. Spivak in regards to reconstructive surgery. Previous post below---- I was put in touch with Dr. Spivak through my HMO. I was diagnosed with an aggressive, benign tumor in my nasal cavity which needed to be removed quickly. Needless to say, I was very nervous when I entered his office. As soon as Dr. Spivak walked through the door into the exam room, I was immediately put at ease. He took the time to listen to me and to my situation. His bedside manner is astounding - he is truly compassionate and took the time to reassure me that everything was going to be OK. I left his office that day feeling that I was in terrific hands. Lisa, his scheduler and office coordinator, is an Angel. She is highly responsive, and also put me at ease throughout the surgery scheduling process. She responds to emails immediately and is highly knowledgeable in regards to the OR scheduling process, insurance, etc. Having a superior office coordinator makes all the difference when going through a stressful surgery. On the day of surgery, Dr. Spivak was reassuring and comforting. Unfortunately, my tumor was much more aggressive than anticipated, but Dr. Spivak was able to handle the situation, and ensured that he took the correct steps to eradicate it from my head. He was communicative to my partner, and explained fully what he did and why he had to take the extra steps he did to excise the tumor. Two weeks into recovery, I suffered a setback at home. We texted Dr. Spivak at 6:30 AM - and he IMMEDIATELY called us back, and let us know what we needed to do. I went to the hospital, and our ER MD called Dr. Spivak and he walked the doctor through what the cause was, and how to remedy the situation. I owe the quality of care that I received at the hospital to Dr. Spivak's availability to talk with the ER and IR physicians. While Dr. Spivak is generally on this site for cosmetic surgery, I have to vouch for his abilities in reconstructive and Craniomaxillofacial surgery. Had I not gotten in touch with him when I did, I would be facing extensifacial reconstruction in a few months. I owe my well being to his expertise, compassion, and responsiveness. Dr. Spivak was better than I could have ever imagined! I did a lot of research before getting my procedure done and he far exceeded all of his reviews. His bedside manner was gentle and caring, and his nurses/staff were all amazing. Everyone made me feel so at ease during my consultation and my procedure. He answered all of my questions and was honest with me about expectations. As for the procedure itself, it was way easier than I thought and my results were beyond my expectations. Horrible horrible horrible!!! I had a consult booked 3 months in advance and I drove 1 hour to get here. I got here and they told me he canceled all his appointments for the day. I was never notified. Then they tell me he is not taking any new patients because he is 3 months booked behind. I have a real bad breathing problem I need the inside of my nose done. why couldn't they tell me three months ago that he was not taking new patients?. Why did they book an appointment for me and it was an authorized visit. He may be a great surgeon but boy oh boy that is not the way to do business. Not your typical plastic surgery story.... So I originally came to see Dr. Spivak after running into an old friend I hadn't seen in a while who honestly looked like she had just come from the fountain of youth. I asked her what she had been doing and why she looked so good. After giving me some story about detox and healthy eating she finally admitted her little secret relationship with Dr. Spivak. lol. I immediately booked an appointment and was so looking forward to my consultation. On arrival I waited less than 2 minutes before he himself walked me back to the exam room and started a 15 minute conversation on what changes I didn't like about my face and some of my options. I mean, he asked a ton of questions and listened before he gave me any advice. He then started taking a closer look at my face and noticed right away this tiny blemish that I had been covering with makeup for months. I honestly was planning on scheduling a facial to have it extracted that same week. He took one look at it and said, I am almost certain that is Basal Cell Carcinoma and you should go upstairs right now and have it biopsied. He assured me it was completely treatable but that it should be looked at sooner than later. He gave me a number and told me to call right away. Of course, I didn't call right away but surprisingly Dr. Spivak called me the day after and asked if I had made an appointment which I admitted I had not. He made me promise to call as soon as we'd hung up. I did and guess what? It was Basal Cell and I had to have surgery a few weeks later. 6 hours, 30+ stitches, and major black eyes, the cancer was gone. True to his word, Dr. Spivak was there with me every step of the way including providing me his cell number to text him photos, questions, concerns. He is so not your typical plastic surgeon. It's probably a stretch to say he saved my life but I so believe he SAVED my FACE. The damage Basal Cell can do if not removed is disfiguring. It can truly destroy your face. I just can't thank him enough for caring about my welfare over any services he could have sold me that first day. His persistence in getting me to make the appointment made the difference in a somewhat minor surgery and major facial reconstruction. Warning: graphic description ahead! I had an accident that cut off the tip of my left index finger and tore off the nail. It was incredibly painful and traumatizing, as you might imagine. The emergency room said that nothing could be done but fortunately we asked about plastic surgery and they referred us to Dr. Spivak, who was on call that day. Because of Dr. Spivak I now have a nail on that finger and people do not notice the injury unless I point it out. Without him, I would not have a nail, the injury would be obvious, and my finger would not have recovered so well. He does amazing work and he has an excellent bedside manner. I write this review with complete gratitude and appreciation for Dr. Spivak. My 18 year old daughter was in a car accident 4 weeks ago while visiting my oldest daughter in Los Angeles. She was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Lynwood and was immediately seen by Dr. Spivak. He was a complete angel sent from heaven and I cannot say enough nice things about him. He was professional, thorough, compassionate and incredibly kind. I have never in my 58 years, met a Dr. like this! He performed an initial surgery to clean her foot wound and to access the situation. He then followed up with a second surgery that required plastic surgery. He did a beautiful job on both the skin graft on her foot and the minimally invasive area of her groin where the skin was taken. There will be a minimal scar that no one will see and my daughter is very happy about that! I spoke very highly of Dr. Spivak to everyone in the hospital during our 2 1/2 week stay and all the staff shared our high opinion of him. Dr. Spivak has been INCREDIBLE throughout my entire process of breast reconstruction! I am so thankful for him and tell so many friends about him! If you have the chance to have him care for you, do it! I did my investigating late at night on the internet for years hoping to find someone who will be safe and very skilled. I have scanned so many websites and watched many videos along with three consultations ( that I payed fee's for )that I did not go through with. I did not have to pay a consult fee when I met Dr Spivak. This has been a dream of mine to have a natural fuller breast, but it did not feel right until I met Dr Spivak. I was in great hands from our first consultation and now being three months out post procedure. I'm so happy with the results. My dream come true. I was not put under any anesthesia. Our 7 year old son recently cut his forehead badly and we are so thankful that we were able to have Dr. Spivak take care of him. I don't usually find myself writing reviews in Yelp, but Dr. Spivak was just that exceptional, that I could not resist. I myself am an Internal Medicine Physician and therefore have high expectations and am very specific when choosing a doctor for myself and my family. Yesterday, my 3 year old son fell and split open his chin, I knew immediately that the cut would need stitches. My son is very fair skinned and can scar easily, he also can be quite temperamental, so I needed to find someone immediately who was both patient and extremely skilled. A friend recommended Dr. Spivak, and after calling him he quickly find time to accommodate us. Dr. Spivak not only did an unbelievable job stitching up my son, but he had such a calming and assuring presence around my son, that after some local numbing anesthetic, my son actually fell asleep.
