We just moved to the area and needed a new dentist. At my initial visit Dr. Shah was so kind and patient in explaining what work I would need to get done. I needed to get a crown so I was incredibly nervous about the procedure and he explained in detail what to expect and the cost. I just finished getting my temporary crown put in this morning and the whole process was so quick! He and his dental hygienist we're so sweet and kept me up to speed on where we were in the process and made sure to touch base on my comfort level/pain level. Im also a huge fan of all the modern equipment they use, normally the worst part of the dentist for me is the numbing shots and it was almost completely painless! The device they used to add the numbing shot played this cute little song and said how much medication was being administered lol I really felt so safe and comfortable the entire time which is such a new feeling for me when going to the dentist. My husband had to get a mouth guard because he grinds his teeth and they gave him the 3D printout of his teeth lol how cool!

I was quite impressed and excited to start my dental journey. Upon walking in, the receptionists were all very kind and welcoming. They have coffee and water in the waiting room and were helpful answering questions about insurance and scheduling. I was taken back by a dental assistant and she was very kind! She took xrays and got me ready for the doctor. Dr. Shah was very informative and let me know everything that needed to happen to make my mouth happy! I needed some fillings and a crown done. I appreciated the payment plan option and put it to use for my visit/work that needed to be done. Upon coming in for my fillings and crown, I was quite nervous. Dr.Shah knew of my anxiety, as it was in my chart. I was visibly nervous and the needles didnt add anything good to how I was feeling. I let him know I would need more numbing as my teeth as sensitive from my grinding. He numbed me up and then wanted to work on me immediately after the injection. I asked if I could wait a bit to let the numbing kick in and he agreed but seemed to be a bit annoyed. After waiting a minute or so, he began to try to work on mh teeth and I continued to experience pain. I asked for more numbing and he agreed. Again, he seemed to be annoyed. Maybe because he had another patient to get to? After asking to let the numbing kick in again, we proceeded with my treatment shortly after. This time, I was more numb. When I was called to come back for my new crown, I was excited for my process to be done! I sat down and the dental assistant removed my temporary crown. She gently scraped at my tooth as I had some adhesive stuck to it still. She was very gentle but my sensitivity was severe. She let me know that we can apply topical anesthetic to see if that helps and if it doesnt, I can get the numbing injection. I agreed and she prepared the tray with the topical and injectable anesthetic. When Dr.Shah came in to apply the crown, he was ready to get to work. I let him know of my discomfort/pain and what I had discussed with the dental assistant. He applied the topical numbing and it instantly lit up my face with pain. My teeth are so sensitive! I closed my mouth and held my face. He asked if I was okay and I said "Yes, but I am in pain". He proceeded to attempt to dry my tooth off with the air and I continued to express my pain in tensing up, vocally moaning and at times letting him know it was painful. He just kept asking if I was okay but never seemed to think to give me the injection of anesthetic. As he was preparing to blowing the air to dry my tooth, I could feel the air circulating around me and in my mouth even though it wasnt being blown directly on me. It was painful and he chuckled saying "Im not even blowing air on your tooth yet". The dental assistant kept saying "just 10 more seconds" over and over again. What was supposed to be "10 seconds" of pain turned into minutes and minutes of pain. It was a lot to go through and the service could have been made comfortable by taking the time and giving me the injection of anesthetic. I felt like he was rushing to get to his next patient and didnt want to take that time to make me comfortable. To be completely vulnerable in this review, I had a panic attack in the car and cried all the way home while still in pain. I was in pain for about an hour after this all happening. I couldnt fall asleep because I was having flash backs of being in the office and feeling the pain I had. All of this could have been prevented. The following day was my last encounter at the office. I was coming back in to have my bite guard adjusted after getting my crown. I have to admit, I was quite traumatized by my last visit and asked my wife to come in with me as support for this last appointment. I was dreading going back but I needed this guard fixed. Dr.Shah came in and got right to work and asked about my sensitivity. I did let him know of my experience pertaining to him laughing and how I didnt feel like that was professional. He apologized and thanked me for my feed back. I did not get into what other things I experienced as I was not ready to talk or deal with that. The dental industry has a strong record of being something that people are afraid of. I was taken back to have that become my reality after my visit here at Riverbank Modern Dentistry. I have never had an experience quite like this before.

I did not go through with it and instead went to another dentist that did it for me on the spot and it turned out fine. Also no $1,000-ish charge like they wanted do. Ridiculous.

By the way, they changed their name to "TUSK IMPLANTS and DENTISTRY". Look up the difference between a "General Dentist" and an "Implant Specialist". Then look up "Prosthodontics". Those Prosthodontist dentists are specially trained for 3 additional years of dental school to do implants, dentures of all types, and major cosmetic procedures. Just a "heads up!" folks. This guy isn't one of them. I went in on May 7th for my first evaluation, and then back again on July 8th 2025 for an additional evaluation to give him another chance because the first evaluation was high pressure to do the treatment he strongly suggested. He bragged about his numerous implants and experience. I saw a "red flag" due to that attitude. And due to having severe Periodontal disease and losing many teeth already, and his office was referred by my insurance provider, I gave them another chance. I've lost 18 teeth in total, so far, from the disease. For the 14 remaining teeth extractions and possible snap in Implants (both upper and lower arches) it will be well over $30,000.00 (even with office discount) for me to be able to get nourishment (protein) again and regain my health. Wow!! OMG! Am I dreaming or is this a dental/dentist office nightmare? I'm in disbelief. Lots of "red flags" at this place so stay alert and question EVERYTHING. And the owner/dentist does NOT like being challenged about procedures and/or questioned AT ALL on either his treatment plans, or breaking up the work into several stages. At all. He's a "type A personality" - as I am - and we definitely clashed a bit. He literally told me that if I wanted the work done 'my way' to DO IT MYSELF. Believe that?? We instantly clashed because he was pushing so hard for everything to be done at once, his way, whereas I need to do it in stages due to my specific financial circumstances. His attitude was, that if I needed to go get financing, aka a loan, go do it. I like paying in cash for things and try to minimize my borrowing money for things. I don't like owing people money. That's just me. Moving on...... Just be cautious. They're money centered, not patient care centered. My experience was a nightmare. Good luck. My husband had a lot of work that needed to be done and we were asked to pre-pay it. We asked if we can pay as it was being done, they refused. We paid thousands of dollars worth of work he didn't end up getting done here. My daughter had the same permanent crown done several times, because they couldn't get it done right. It kept falling off, we kept having to come in and pay each time we came in, why do we need to keep paying for something that isn't getting done right? I asked if I could have it remade the way my original mouth guard was. They agreed to remake it and said I could swap them. I understood that this was probably just a miscommunication; I should have been clearer that I wanted the mouth guard made the exact same way when I ordered the first replacement. The second replacement is thinner, but made out of a different (hard plastic) material that I struggle to get on and off my teeth. I never expected them to change materials, so I did not think I needed to specify. I ended up paying another few hundred dollars so that they would let me keep the first replacement. It isn't comfortable to wear all day, but it is less uncomfortable. I tried to communicate what I wanted clearly the second time. It didn't work. I paid for two mouth guards, and neither is what I asked for.

Our experience started going downhill after the retainer consult on 2/18/2026, and it has been…read moreextremely frustrating and concerning ever since. According to our original contract, retainers were priced at $300 for a pair. However, at the 2/18 visit, we were told the cost had increased to $600 per pair, or $1,250 for a set of four. This significant price increase was never clearly explained or agreed to. At that appointment, I acknowledged the cost of the retainers and clearly stated that I could not proceed at that time. I specifically instructed Aylin that nothing should be ordered without my approval and that I would call back to confirm before moving forward. I was also told my child needed to be scanned before retainers could be ordered, and to my knowledge, no scan was done that day. We then scheduled a separate scan appointment for a later date. Based on the treatment process, my son should have had his teeth scanned a total of three times--initially, again for refinements, and a final scan for post-treatment retainers. The lack of clarity around whether this final scan was completed further adds to the confusion and concern about how his care was managed. Before that appointment, I called the office and spoke with Aylin to confirm that no retainers had been ordered. I again clearly stated not to proceed with anything. Despite this, I was later told the retainers had already been ordered anyway. I was then pressured to pay and even threatened with collections. This is completely unacceptable. There were also serious concerns with the quality and oversight of treatment. Before my child was even evaluated by Dr. Manassra, we were told by Anna (who is not a dentist or orthodontist) that his Invisalign treatment was complete after the first 15 sets of trays, despite our concerns with the results. When Dr. Manassra evaluated him, he confirmed that additional treatment was necessary, and my child required 12 more aligners. Although he was scanned for the new trays, we then waited nearly three months for them to arrive. During that delay, my son's teeth began to shift, which undermined the progress already made and raised concerns about continuity of care. Additionally, at routine appointments to receive trays, my child was not consistently evaluated by an orthodontist and was instead simply handed the next set of aligners without any clinical assessment or provider oversight. On his final tray, my son was seen by a different orthodontist on 2/18--since Dr. Manassra was no longer with the practice--who stated that his teeth "looked good" and that his treatment was complete, despite our ongoing concerns about his bite and overall alignment. The focus of that visit was then shifted toward obtaining retainers. On 4/15, we had an appointment with another board-certified orthodontist to obtain a second opinion. During that visit, it was determined that additional refinements were still needed due to my son's teeth and jaw not properly aligning. We agreed to transfer care, and their office called on our behalf to initiate the transfer. During that call, they spoke with Aylin, who stated that the Invisalign case was non-transferable, that my son's treatment was marked as "complete", and that four retainers had already been ordered for $1,250. She also stated that if we did not pick them up, the account would be sent to collections. She told the office staff at the new orthodontist this and this was the first time I became aware that the retainers had been ordered despite my prior instructions not to proceed. When I later contacted Aylin directly, I questioned how the retainers could have been ordered when we had canceled the scan appointment scheduled for 4/1. She stated that my son had already been scanned on 2/18 and that we had signed a form authorizing the order on that day. This directly contradicts what we were told at the time--that a separate scan appointment was required before any retainers could be ordered--and to my knowledge, no scan was performed that day. I requested proof of the scan and she basically said to get it from Invisalign. Based on these conflicting explanations, it raises serious concerns that a prior scan may have been used to initiate or justify ordering retainers without clear consent, potentially placing us in a position where we were later pressured for payment. This lack of transparency and consistency is deeply concerning. After over 10 years as patients with no prior issues, this experience--especially after Dr. Florendo left--has been a complete breakdown in communication, accountability, and trust. Changing prices from the original contract without clear consent, ordering treatment without authorization, providing inconsistent information, failing to ensure proper orthodontic oversight, and pressuring patients into payment is not acceptable. They say one thing and do another. I strongly advise others to get everything in writing and not rely on verbal assurances.

When i called the insurance if i can just transfer to a different dentist, they said that they were billed already even though my son still doesnt have a crown! It's been 4 months already! And they keep on blaming the lab when really they're not competent in doing the scans that's why it doesnt fit!
