I was looking for an alternative to the downtown location and wanted to check it out. It's a bit of a drive from where I live but may be a better option considering the downtown location's parking debacle. (A parking service was contracted with to monitor the parking lot. Without fail, I am ticketed each and every time I try to use the Amon G. Carter location. This is in spite of "checking-in" in order to get a parking pass. What a mess!) The Ryan Family YMCA is smaller by comparison, but with a few extra amenities, such as an outdoor pool. The weight equipment also seems a lot newer than what I was accustomed to. Overall I like the YMCA I have been to 10-12 different facilities over the last few years and this one is the worst. The showers take 10m to warmup... the drains are clogged... a bunch of equipment is out of order and some is broken with no sign on them... seems like someone stole a bunch of the cable attachments and the owners just never replaced them... and it's fairly dirty compared to other YMCA I've been to. They are putting cheap soap in the EcoLab soap dispensers... Just a lot of corners being cut here and the owners aren't reinvesting into the quality and maintenance of their facility read more

One star for the win..when your kids wait all school year for the pool to be open during summer and then try to go 4 or 5 times in the same week and they tell you that there's issues with the Chlorine or some other crap and they make your kids leave the pool or not even open. If you know you're going to be open for summer ( which they do every year) don't you think it might be a good idea or work out the kinks and make sure everything is working how it should before the day your supposed to open let alone all the other days you'll be open. A measly apology and a dingy 5$ gift card for the concession stand can't erase my kids dissatisfaction that they weren't able to go swimming when they are expecting to. That's like a movie theatre saying they ran out of popcorn or movies to show. Come on YMCA get your act together. There's no reason that you shouldn't be able to accommodate people or not be having so many issues when it's the pools one job to open for the summer. I hope they can resolve whatever the issues are so that they can hold or their word that they will be open for kids to enjoy the summer like it intended. A "wannabe" arcade isn't going to entice kids to stay and "play" if they can't go to the pool. My son had his first swim lesson 6/19 at 4:30 I found it so unprofessional that the employees were goofing around throwing another employee in the pool 2 little girls jumped in and they got in trouble now to my biggest concern my son happen to go let of the wall and started to drown no one not the teachers nor the lifeguard on duty attempted to help my son the lifeguard saw my son drowning an just sat there if it wasn't for a mother to happen to be standing near I would of not have a son because she pulled him out if I would of lost him it would of just been I'm sorry for your loss I definitely don't suggest swimming lessons there read more

great front staff and great people all around but they definitely need to do something about the very low quality of boring, off beat, messy uncoordinated patterns and rhythmically challenged zumba instructors. Just plain sad. One absolutely 150lbs overweight sub just stood there the entire class time shouting instructions and then would drop periodically hands on hips an booty bounce till he got out of breath. Thats it. Only 2 regular instructors that actually know what they're doing somewhat and the rest either cant dance, too out of shape to dance or dont know how to choreograph or a combo at all. Very frustrating. Not even sure how they got to be instructors. Mind boggling. Who's doing the picking? But it truly is a family and social friendly upbeat atmosphere. My wife was diagnosed with Small cell long Cancer stage 4 six months ago. Yesterday I realize her YMCA subscription is been debit on our bank account. I contact YMCA over the phone to cancel her subscription and they asked me to go to the facility to sign a cancelation paper. Nex day I cancel her subscription in person, and since she didn't use the services for six months I asked to refund the last month only (they just run the credit card). At my surprise, I was asked to bring a simple note from the doctor to consider the refund of $58. So, they want me to schedule a visit with my wife doctor, pay for the visit to ask for a "note" saying that my wife is dying from cancer and take it back to them to consider? My first conclusion is that this YMCA policy is UNFAIR and INSULTING. Is not about the money is about what they are putting me trough for them to consider my request! My second conclusion is, they care more for the money that the wellbeing of their members. read more

Just go to the.. Y..M..C..A! That silly song gets stuck in every time I go. I joined the... Y..M..C..A! I mostly joined to have a place to dump my kids off this summer. They have a summer camp! I'm kidding about "dumping" my kids off, but hey....look a summer day camp! Also, swim lessons. Back in my day, we were just thrown into the pool. It doesn't seem to work for my kids, so it's a nice option to have if we decide. They also have exercise classes and a gym. I hate going to the regular gym like 24 hour because they are usually occupied with folks tryna get laid or get a date. Here at the Y..M..C..A! it's mostly senior citizens in the gym or moms! Much rather work on my fitness with them than folks tying up the equipment. They have Zumba, Cycle, Bodypump, Pilates, Yoga, and more. So far I've been to Bodypump and Shred. I'm tryna work off these Yelp pounds! Color me a fan. read more

We recently joined the YMCA. The receptionist assisted us in how to save 20% on membership as that was the joining special at the time. I have really enjoyed our time here. The childcare workers are very loving to our children and trustworthy. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because they have a lot of cardio machines but are missing some lifting machines. read more

After school childcare program at my daughter's school was canceled without warning BUT they charged me for it anyway -- even as they left her sitting alone outside her school waiting for me to leave my job across town! Luckily she was able to call me. Do NOT trust your children to the care of these people. They only want your money. When I called to find out what happened, the person in charge of the program made excuses and snapped, "Well, all the other parents knew," as if I had deliberately just ignored something as important as my child having nowhere to go after school. Then again, I guess it was too expensive to send a letter by mail to parents. They could have used my payment for a week of care that no longer existed to buy a stamp! My advice: Trust these people -- with your kids or your debit card information -- at your own peril. read more

I've been a member for about a year and a half now. I don't go as often as I should, due to an extremely busy work schedule w/ hours that don't mesh with the time the Y is open, but it's a very nice gym complex. There's a waterpark outside and an indoor pool, neither of which I've used, but maybe someday. I've gone to several yoga classes, but it's difficult with my work schedule to attend on a regular basis. I'd recommend bringing your own yoga mat so you don't have to use a mat that someone else potentially used before and sweated all over without it being cleaned. I usually don't sweat too much in yoga, but still, I'd rather use my own personal mat. I've attended some aerobic classes at the Benbrook YMCA, but nothing other than yoga here. Also, they have a mobile fit program that pairs you with a pseudo-personal trainer for a few weeks to introduce you to all the equipment and facilities at the gym and teach you some exercises and how to use the computer program to log your workouts. It's completely free. That was over a year ago when I did it, but I think they still have it. Avoid peak times, like when most people get off work at 5pm until 7pm, or else expect to wait to use equipment. They have the monthly class schedules posted on the website and usually near the front desk as well. read more

The summer camp is horrible. They have young and inexperienced "counselors" that have no interest in teaching or playing with the children. Complaints are often ignored. They cancelled their after school program without warning. Do not send your children to the Ryan Ymca camps. You will regret it. read more

This is not only a great facility, but a great organization. Yes, the gym gets crowded at peak times. However, this is to me is good problem to have. Both of our children are involved in their youth sports programs, and love them. They do follow the YMCA set rules, and the members either follow them or they are asked to leave. Start off by saying decent gym and most of the staff have treated us wonderfully. Now that being said, the managment team are a differnet story. Our keys were stolen from this facility and after a long saga of bad conduct, the managment team allowed the stolen key card to be used to access their facility at least 2 times and a second location at least once that we know of. When questioned why they did not detain the individual or call the police we got the run around. Their own employees were dumbfounded by the mistreatment and lack of action. They had several opportunites to catch this person(s) and potentially retrieve our personal property. After failed attempts to view video footage, rebutals to our complaints, etc we have lost all hope. They actually emailed to ask if we would like to renew our membership.
