Couldn't sleep, so I got up and decided to try this place for breakfast. I had been once under this restaurant's previous incarnation, and had felt like the staff were looking at me funny for being the only person under 60 in the place, but the new management has freshened the place up and made it feel much more open and inviting. I was the first one there, and my french texas toast and two eggs were just fine-- the texas toast bread makes for fluffy french toast! Prices were very reasonable for everything. I want to go back to try their kielbasa and pierogi, which are available as breakfast dishes AND as lunch dishes. Pierogi for breakfast? I can get behind that! read more

I've had breakfast here a couple of times now. I love breakfast and think it's the perfect meal for all times of the day. Susan's is a quaint mom and pop looking place that has your standard diner fare. I order my usual (2 eggs sunny side up, bacon, home fries and rye toast) and it's always more than enough food. Delicious, fast, and amazingly affordable. I was stunned the first time I came with my fiance. I had my usual and he had a pancake (ginormous by the way) and scrambled eggs. I think the bill was something insane like $12. Where in the world can you get that much food for $12?? And good food at that! Service is really great. Friendly waitstaff who are very accommodating and outgoing. I also get the added benefit of supporting small local business so there's that. Overall a real gem in Holyoke and I highly recommend it! read more

Nice small town feel. The waitresses knew EVERYONE! It was very endearing to see them greet everyone by name.

We went to Rusty's for a wedding breakfast before we all travelled home. The table was beautifully decorated, complete with champagne glasses and a bottle of sparkling water in a bucket, little favors for the bride and groom and others and even a cake. It was a great finale to a happy weekend. Thanks to the staff for all the unexpected special effort and great service. It was truly appreciated. My girlfriend is a regular here and introduced me. The food is good, and I usually pick something off the specials menu for variety, but she loves the giant pancakes and gets them every time. NOTE: This review was of Susan's Cafe. I have not been to Rusty's Place. Wouldn't guess from the outside, but inside, this is a very bright, clean and open breakfast spot. I've only been once, but the food was solid, basic diner fare. Eggs cooked right... decent sausage... etc. Nothing overly special, but what they do they do very well, and the service was terrific. Diners are places susceptible to personal bias and preference, so I'll offer that caveat before stating Susan's offers up my favorite diner food in the area. Among my favorites--a breakfast combination plate involving pierogis, eggs, and kielbasa served with a butter-soaked pretzel roll ideal for transitioning your breakfast mid-course into brunch via an improvised egg & kielbasa sandwich. And the kicker, the plate hits you for a very reasonable six bucks and change. And on that note, the pierogis are awesome. Cabbage, Potato and cheese...as well as some interesting I havent tried anything outside the typical grill/diner fare, so I cant readily comment on that subject, as of yet. read more

All of the omelettes have been excellent, as we have gone several times, however would suggest to the cook that they make the scrambled eggs different. He tends to chop them up rather than turn them lightly. Really weird texture. Worth going to for breakfast! read more

Great prices. Lots of great specials every day. Beware the gigantic pancakes! Really tasty food and friendly staff. If you go in on Saturday or Sunday you may find that all the tables are taken and it's pretty noisy. If that's not your style, move on. Great local place to eat! I booked this restaurant for an informal post-wedding breakfast before we all went our separate ways, and boy am I glad I did. The staff went all-out to make it a great experience; we arrived to a fully decorated theme table and they even surprised us with a cake! If you are looking for a good old fashioned breakfast this is the place. After eating here it amazes me that Dunkin Donuts is even in business. Great food, great service, ham off the bone 1/2" thick the way I like it, crispy bacon, sour dough bread toast, home fries, great coffee, you name it. And open at 6:00 AM Sunday and every day. Stop in sit at the bar by yourself or grab a booth with the family. Great place. read more

Amazing Irish Benedict, price is comparable to your typical breakfast but the portions are huge. The coffee is amazing, generally coffee is coffee at a breakfast place but this is fresh ground in the morning and I am a huge fan. The staff are so friendly and the atmosphere as that comforting local feel. read more

Very decent place esp. for a great breakfast. Very friendly waitstaff. Good pastries to take home. I wish it was open longer in the day though. I don't think you will not be satisfied with eating there. I like they serve Maple syrup that contains no high fructose corn syrup. Hopefully they will do that with the catsup soon. read more

During a trip up to Vermont for a wonderful day full of skiing, myself and my companions became stricken with the hunger of one hundred bears. We took exit 17A off of Route 91 into the quaint town of Holyoke, and discovered Susan's. Gosh, what an angel. The food was delicious, the service impecable, and pancakes bigger than any i've ever seen. Will be stopping here every weekend whilst traveling through Mass. I am still waiting for a coffee at least but no. Continued waiting. Then the bus person began bringing out washed glasses for the counter. My girl and I stopped in here because of the four star status, the food was good, she had 2 eggs over easy and home fried potatoes, I had the recommended breakfast burrito add hash browns to it. The burrito was very good but the green pepper in it seemed a little under cooked. Here home fried potatoes lacked a little bit of flavor but all in all it was decent. The coffee seemed to be very strong and I did not care for it to much as an avid coffee drinker. 2 stars if I'm ever 1200 miles away from home again I might stop back by. read more

Great for a destination breakfast. If you are traveling on Route 91, worth getting off for breakfast. You cannot finish a pancake---iti is larger than the dinner plate it is served on---$2.000 for fresh blueberry, strawberry or choc. chip! Add a cup of cofee and a 25% tip and the whole thing is $5!!! Ive heard about this place and how good the food was. Its been closed for some time for remodeling. Well today I drive by and it was open so I decided to try it out. I was greeted by a smiling face who told me I could sit wherever id like. After asking if id like a coffee it and a menu where at my table before i had my coat off. Coffee was hot and very good for black coffee(the only way i drink it). After picking my breakfast (2 eggs, 2 French toast, 2 sausage and a side of English muffins). I was very impressed at how fast my hot breakfast arrived at my table. My waitress was attentive and made frequent eye contact to ensure I was all set. UNFORTUNATELY a different waitress took over. It was all down hill from there. Not one time did she come to my table to ask if i needed anything. After waiting 15 mins for a refill on my milk and coffee I realized the only way id get them was to go to the counter and request them. Which I did. For the remainder of my visit I felt ignored and actually insulted. As a customer I feel I shouldnt have to chase the waitress for coffee so I decided to go somewhere else. This waitress didnt ask anyone if they'd like more coffee or maintain any kind of contact with customers. Watching them waiting for jelly or coffee while she shuffled paper back and forth at the counter or made feeble attempts at "busy work" was very off putting. I would love to revisit this restaurant, but if I walked through the door and see this sad excuse for a waitress working id walk right back out! She ruined what was an otherwise good breakfast and potentially repeat visits. read more

I hate to give this place a bad review because the food looked amazing and smelled even better. However, this review is for wait time for food. We sat down and ordered within about 4 minutes of sitting down, and we sat at the counter, no less, so didn't have to wait long for a waitress. We were 2 people and had very simple orders - egg and cheese sandwich, hash browns, veggie scramble. Well...45 minutes later, we were still waiting for our food. When we inquired about how many orders were in front of us, there were still about 8 orders ahead of us! It is impossible that this could be, as there aren't that many tables in the restaurant. In any case, we had already lost time on our drive that day and unfortunately had to leave without any food. The waitress could have offered to move the order up, since I imagine they screwed up somewhere along the way, but she didn't. This place could've been great! read more

Love this place! Staff is so friendly and food is delish! Blueberry pancakes are to die for, and I'm not even a huge blueberry lover! They offer multiple coffee refills continuously which is so nice. This is quite possibly the best breakfast place I've been to! The veggie omelette was stuffed with plenty of cheese and veggies and would have been enough food, but I couldn't resist adding one of their $1.50 pancakes to the order. The waitress warned me that it would be HUGE and she wasn't joking! The pancake hung over the side of my plate and was served with butter and syrup on the side (which I appreciated as many places put butter all over the pancakes). This one didn't need anything on it. It was fluffy and delicious! The service was wonderful, the coffee was bottomless, and I was full for most of the day. I would definitely go back if in the area again! read more
