Rusty's is pretty good. Ordered over the phone for delivery. My pet-peave for pizza places is being chintzy on the toppings, there's no excuse. I used to manage a pizza place and I know the cost to actually make a pizza is very low. But this isn't the case for Rusty's. More than enough toppings, plus they have cashews! If you have never had cashews on your pizza, try it. My favorite is pepperoni and cashews. But we ordered Rusty's special with green peppers and cashews. The crust was good and cooked perfect. I don't have high expectations for pizza parlors, but still left here underwhelmed. We came here on a Friday night and it was sparsely filled, especially when compared to the surrounding restaurants. (The spacious venue is one of the few highlights.) We ordered a two-topping thin crust pizza split pineapple/ham on one half and sausage/olive on the other ($21.70), as well as a large serving from the salad bar ($7.49). I have never compared a fresh pizza to cardboard, but I guess there's a first for everything. Maybe the thin crust was the mistake? The sauce could use more flavor and even the sausage underdelivered. My favorite frozen pizza brand is Screamin' Sicilian and that significantly outperforms the pies from here. The salad bar was a welcome sight, albeit still abnormal as we are just returning to some normalcy post-pandemic. Just don't let the cashier charge you for little salad dressing cups for those of you that don't want to drench your salad directly with dressing. This is an okay stop if you're just looking for a very casual quick bite not overly high-priced meal. But don't expect too much beyond that. This is certainly the value play when wanting to feed a family in this part of the city, but the food shows. Really hard to deliver a bland pizza and it really pains me to write that! read more

The restaurant looked like it had been super busy (it was Saturday night), and we had trouble finding a clean table, but we got great tasting pizza and a salad in a reasonable amount of time and they had a good selection of draft beer - so no complaints here! We had the thin crust and it was great!They do it right right here! If you are looking for tasty pizza or late night food this is a great option! I've eaten Rusty's too many times to count, and by far it is one of the best pizzas I've ever tried! Rusty's pizza of the few flavors that I crave when I am elsewhere. I'm a fan of the thin pizza--the crust is a good balance between soft and crunch textures, and the sauce has a nice kick to it. I am also a fan of the garlic cheese bread, which is like a pizza. Overall, good flavors and the staff have been friendly. Just on flavor alone I would give the place 5 stars. The Rusty's location by the pier is spacious. Went here with my mom last Saturday. Great family friendly atmosphere but a few issues. Pizza was nothing special. If you can go with the thick/pan crust as opposed to the thin. Wings were absolutely horrible. Wings were extremely small and both the wing sauce that the wings are coated in and the side of ranch dressing were watery. Did not have the Salad Bar but visually it was an absolute mess and disgusting. Clearly no employee was cleaning up or replenishing the salad bar. Bottom line your kids will probably love the atmosphere but if you are looking for a solid pizza joint look elsewhere. read more

Ok. So prior to coming here we read the review about the rude lady at the counter. It is very true. She stands at the register like a mean hag who does not care for your order, wont answer questions, watches the one time trip salad bar, and asks how many slices and leftover food you have before giving you carryout containers. If you can get past the old register witch the pizza is actually very good. The garden pizza is filled with veggies! The place is actually very cool. My husband and his friends grew up eating Rusty's, and over the years, I've heard them remember the place fondly several times, even though it is still an active chain and they can order their cherished childhood pizza literally whenever they want (and almost never do). I finally got my first taste of Rusty's a few weeks ago, when we had it delivered for dinner during a trip up to Montecito. Ordering and delivery were easy, and allowed for a relatively peaceful night in with our friends and our respective toddlers. I was warned that the pizza wasn't necessarily good, that it was its own thing, and maybe I wouldn't like it, so I wasn't expecting the world's best pizza. I was, in fact, happy to find that I enjoyed it at all. The crust was super thin and crackery in a frozen pizza kind of way, but with a bit more pleasant chew, and I actually really liked the tangy, acidic tomato sauce. The pepperoni pizza was satisfying. The Hawaiian, on the other hand, was kind of bad--I liked the pineapple, but the Canadian bacon was hard and desiccated. We had some pizza left over, and it tasted good enough straight out of the fridge, though my standards for that sort of thing are honestly pretty low. Kevin provided the BEST service I've ever received at a Rusty's Pizza Parlor. Kevin made the experience better than I've ever had it at Rusty's. Even though this Funk Zone location is extra noisy with the high ceilings and massive concrete flooring, he made sure he understood everything customers were relaying verbally. All of our requested were fulfilled beyond our expectations. Great salad bar, pizza was prepared EXACTLY as we ordered it and was served fast. Had to deduct a star for the lack of cleanliness to the bathrooms but it's understandable how difficult managing the bathrooms at this location given the elevated population of unhoused in the area. Also, it's clear to me that a lot of non Rusty's customers use this Rusty's parking lot to get ice cream at McConnell's, wine taste at Melville's, get coffee at Goat Tree, dine at Santos and Finney's and probably all sorts of other things for undetermined amounts of time. I'm usually the last person to get upset about parking but when there's zero spaces available for Rusty's customers and delivery drivers have to double park in the Rusty's Funk Zone parking lot and the Rusty's dining room is only half full, someone isn't getting what their paying for. There may be a need during some busier parts of the year to staff a parking attendant in this high rent boutique portion of the city. The preserved lighthouse maritime heritage is really something special at this location too. Thanks Rusty's for running a great location at a great location! read more

We arrived at Rusty's right at opening. At that time, we just seated ourselves and ordered at the counter. The pizza itself was good! Nothing to call home about, but it came fast and satisfied all cravings. Price and size weren't bad either. We got a large pizza, half Canadian bacon/pineapple, other half cheese, with thin crust, and that was just enough to feed three adults and three kids who weren't super hungry. Workers seemed a little grumpy, but again, we did come here right at opening so perhaps we caught them a little unprepared, especially as we were the only customers in the shop for a while. The space is also very large and the tables and booths are set pretty far apart so there's lots of rooms for strollers and large parties of ten or more. You order and grab at the cashier.
