Pleasantly surprised. We were in the area visiting family. After a tourist adventure to Solvang we headed to Santa Barbara for the afternoon to eat and run the baby around. It was a rainy day and we had to be back at the house for dinner early. My wife found this spot and we parked in the adjacent lot to read the menu online, while the baby slept in the back of the car. This was one of the hardest choices I have had to make in a while. So many amazing sandwich descriptions.. and I was hungry. My wife, of course picked out her sandwich quickly and impatiently waited for me to make a choice. I went back and forth for about 15 min. Finally landing on the #9. Turkey and bri on panini with honey mustard mayo. It had some additional veggies as well. My wife exited the vehicle so I could have some quality time with the sleeping baby and instagram while she ordered for us. -oh, instagram... Some time later my wife returned to interrupt my scrolling. She had with her a modest paper bag with a life changing meal hiding inside. Upon first inspection, the sandwich was awkward to eat in the car. The baby was snoring and I almost lost some of the sandwich when I opened the wrapper. After getting situated, something miraculous happened to my mouth. A burse of colorful flavor, honey, turkey, brie, lettuce, peppers, honey, sweet mayonnaise, light mustard, all dancing on my tongue. The sandwich was a euphoric. My body just started making delicious Yum noises; my wife looking at me like I was crazy couldn't understand how delicious my sandwich was. She kept saying hers was just OK. I kept repeating how life-changing the sandwich was how euphoric how everything was happening all at once like in that movie with the hotdog fingers . But she couldn't understand. When I got to my second slice of sandwich, I offered my wife a bite. She was so excited she made a noise. I haven't heard since we conceived our child. Delicious she said. I finished my sandwich and we headed for a walk towards State Street started pouring on us with the baby in the stroller. We turned around and went back to the car. By the time we got there, Panino had closed for the day, but the door was open, and the employees were still cleaning up . I walked inside and told the woman at the counter that I needed to talk to her seriously about my sandwich from earlier. Her skin turned pale and you can tell she got nervous. I told her it was the best goddamn sandwich I've ever had in my freaking life. And then I was stuck in the car eating it because of the sleeping baby, but I had to come, tell them how great they did whoever made. My sandwich should be pushed towards Saint Hood. We all laughed. I asked for another sandwich. They said they were closed and I could come back tomorrow This was two weeks ago and I'm just now sitting down to write this review. It was so good. I can't stop thinking about that damn sandwich. I don't understand why they only have the sandwiches in Santa Barbara County and not Northern California. Apparently they're only for Megan, Harry and Oprah to order whenever they want. Go get the damn sandwich it's delicious. read more

I almost ordered the curry chicken sandwich, but so glad I didn't because when I went to the bathroom after I ordered, they were mixing the prep of the curry chicken on a small table right next to the bathroom. Just didn't sit right with me. It's a really small and crammed space but I just feel like food prep should be done in a very specific area nowhere near the bathroom. The sandwich itself had a little to no flavor. I really wish I would've gotten a side of sauce or mayo or even salt and pepper, but it didn't come with that to start with so I didn't think it needed anything added. Parking is difficult. Not much seating. We did the 15 min parking and took it to go. We got the roast turkey sandwich on sourdough and the goat cheese sun-dried tomatoes and roasted red pepper sandwich on focaccia. Turkey was good but needed something acidic or spicy to balance the sweetness of honey mustard which was quite sweet. Vegetarian sandwich had big gobs of sun-dried tomato paste and big scoops of red pepper so it just was kind of a lot of toppings and needed like another firmer veg or more lettuce and herbs to balance. Breads are good. Very generous portion on sandwich but nothing special. read more

This is one of the best sandwich spots of all time! I used to eat here regularly and while it is a little pricey it is sooooo gourmet with top quality ingredients, so in my opinion worth every penny. Panino made me love them on my last wine adventure in Los Olivos, and who knew they were also here in Santa Barbara? Well, they are with a convenient downtown location, and with fun and festive seating out front. They are located amongst a lot of other delicious dining spots (Rudy's, Handlebar Coffee, Cheese Shop Santa Barbara, Zaytoon, etc.), and catty-corner to El Presidio de Santa Barbara Historic Park. They are also right across the street from the **new** Kunin Wines location. On their menu their Turkey & Brie Sandwich (#9 on Focaccia, of course) and The Panino Cobb (#19) have become my favorites, and now have only 17 more sandwich choices to taste. They also have the option of The Half and Half Special where you also get to taste their salads and/or soups. read more

While visiting Santa Barbara's State street we were looking for a late lunch place and discovered Panino. We were looking forward to some warm toasty sandwiches. So we ordered a few. First of all a note for our dear vegetarian friends - this place has some awesome vegetarian sandwiches. We ordered Caprese and English Cotswolt and Tomato along with Chicken and Red Peppers with Provolone. Sandwiches looked great but we had a big surprise/ realization that none of them were toasted like paninis. This is Panino so it's just regular sandwich. Which was a bit disappointing because most of these would taste great when grilled. Not sure if it's a Santa Barbara thing, but portions in this town are huge. We could not finish a full sandwich. Focaccia was great. Fresh mozzarella in Caprese was soft and tasty. But the best part was the Cotswolt Cheese. We absolutely loved that cheese. And they load up the sandwich with it. A meal of sandwich, chips and soda would make it a bit on an expensive side but it's very tasty. I wish they grilled some of those sandwiches. Try it out. Food was delicious! Definitely will come back here every time I'm in town. A bit on the pricier side but definitely delicious. Service was OK. I came in and placed a takeout order, two young white girls and an older Mexican woman were in the shop at the time. The young girls were running the register and making the sandwiches and the older woman was back of house, prepping ingredients and washing dishes. I only interacted with the young ladies. Their service was minimal, and i never felt like they gave me much attention while placing my order since they kept gossiping and talking to each other while I placed my order. I tipped them generously... mostly because when it was my turn to select the tip on the display the register pointed at the screen, and instead of turning around and playing it off, she stood there watching me and what I did. Quite rude, and honestly this is why I'm not giving this place 5 stars. Staff need to work on their customer service. Overall, good food, ok prices, kind of poor service. read more
