I have bee on a very long trip from Merced, Ca (central valley) and looking for a good place to eat in Albuquerque. Read the reviews and decided to stop here after being on the road for several hours. Place is nice and clean. The food was cold and we asked they redo the entire oder. My 22 and 9 year old daughters did not eat the food. They kindly got us the hot items and happily ate. I ate mine warm'ish cause I was so hungry. read more

This is a solid taco joint and I'll be back. I had a team fave fried chicken taco, brisket taco and a green chili taco. All respectable but not the best I've ever had. Really nice and friendly staff. Unfortunately the tacos fell short of expectations. The time between when the tacos were made and eaten was about 10 minutes, completely cold. I'm unsure of how they would be able to lose some much heat unless they weren't hot to begin with. Ordered the roasted pork and chicken fajita tacos. Both completely bland, as if they don't season their meat before it's prepared. The veggies in the fajita were more tasty than the bland chunks of chicken. The pork, again bland, had nothing redeeming about the flavor other than the crumble of cheese. It only had one other vegetable inside the taco. Actually, the lime probably had more flavor than the actual taco itself! The tortilla ripped pretty easily as well so I found myself scooping the fillings back into the tacos. Oh well. read more

I didn't realize this place was in the mall until I got near, and then it was too late to go back. Hanger had stricken with a vengeance. However, it's got an external entrance so you can avoid the hellscape of the mall, but not the parking situation. Overall the food averaged out to, well, average! I tried the black bean tacos and the rajas tacos. The bean tacos were ok, but could have used a lot more flavor and some more vegetables. The rajas were just plain gross. Why does vegetarian food so often lack salt and other seasoning? These contained poorly grilled vegetables that were just crying desperately for salt. My friend got grilled fish tacos, which according to her, were just ok. Once again, lacking in salt and seasoning with a weird mayo based "crema". The service was really fast and friendly. You could definitely do worse at the mall if you're hungry, but I wouldn't recommend driving out of your way to eat here. read more

I could say I've eaten tacos from waaaay down south (yes I do mean Mexico) and Texas and even SoCal and each area has its charm and specialties. Since this place is technically from Texas I do like that they added some green chili to the menu (only on one taco) but it's there. Went with my daughter and she had bbq brisket and fried fish tacos. I had the Rusty, grilled fish, fried chicken(spicy), and the carne asada. This place was just starting the afternoon rush. Long tables to share with whoever is already sitting there. Squeeze in where you can. They do have a patio and also serve beer and margaritas (did not try either this round) Let us get to the review. Service was ok, not rude but not really inviting. Ordered our food and gave a name. They call your name when it's ready but as it got more packed you really couldn't hear. Named called and now food is in hand. Served in a round deep dish. The tacos looked amazing now the rundown. Grilled fish was well done with cabbage and I'm guessing habanero sauce because a bit of a kick to it. BBQ brisket was also good. Nice and tender SLICED brisket which is a pretty big deal that it's not chopped. Fried fish was ok grilled was better in my opinion. Carne was also done well. Sauce and filling pretty awesome taco. Now the spicy fried chicken was very disappointing it looked like and tasted like a microwaved frozen chicken tender covered in hot wing sauce with diced jalapeños and cheese. The portion was good but that to me was the worst one. Now one bad one out of the lot is pretty dang good odds. And how will you know if you like it unless you try it for yourself. You may like that type of taco but it wasn't for me. I will try more of the menu next time and even breakfast all day which is rare to find. Give this Texas transplant a try. You will not leave hungry. I look forward to my next visit just not to soon, gotta work off these tacos first. read more

Just out of curiosity I tried this place a couple nights ago. It's brand new, and I just wanted a snack. I looked at their menu That consists of many kinds of tacos... The Baja shrimp taco caught my eye. If I'm being honest the tacos are a little small but you definitely get what you pay for because these tacos are amazing. They are absolutely delicious and clearly made with love and care by the excellent staff at this establishment. I highly recommend Rusty Taco! read more

So if you're from California, this is not the place for you. I ate my food but that's only because I paid $35 for it. Very mediocre... the carne asada taco has potato in it?? Definitely not the street taco vibe I was going for. Margaritas were good and so is the guac. The sauces also are okay and for that they get 2 stars. Probably won't come back. I'm going to start by saying the service here was so incredible. Al was a very nice, very sweet, "service with a smile" type of worker. My husband and I try new restaurants every time we go out and here is my opinion of the rusty taco on manual. We ordered the steak nacho 4 chicken tacos 1 Baha taco 1 strawberry margarita and a beer. First thing I noticed as I walked in was the tiny space between the register and the entrance, no room for social distancing at all. It was our turn in line to order and we only got the nachos at first because we felt so rushed. It was a hurry up and order type of feeling because the space between the register and entrance filled up very quickly! So we sat outside and waited for our nachos and drinks and to my surprise the food came out almost instantly! No wait time at all! So quick I question how my food was going to taste and to my surprise again it was delicious the steak nacho was so good we ordered a second round. When it comes to nachos the cheese has to be melted and hot and it was perfect! Fast forward, so we go back to the register to order our chicken tacos and just like before a very speedy delivery. Unfortunately the chicken was nowhere as good as the steak it was not dry but it was very bland. My husband's opinion on the baha taco on a scale of 1 to 10 was a 7. During our meal one of our drinks tipped over falling on the ground causing glass to shatter everywhere but Al was so sweet during the accident! He came outside he swept up the glass quickly and reassured us that accidents happen. He replaces the drink and we continued to enjoy our meal. The overall vibe of this place was obviously Hispanic Mexican type restaurant. We were really enjoying the Mariachi music, unfortunately the music would change every once in awhile to a rap gangster Reggaeton type of music and it wasn't very enjoyable to listen to. But my overall opinion is about the experience and we had a very good one and to the owner, you should be very proud of your worker Al because his delightful smile made the experience that much more enjoyable. I had a couple of fried fish tacos on corn tortillas. The fish wasn't as warm as I'd like it to be, and the tortillas weren't warmed at all. Other than the temperature of the food, the taste was great. The sriracha sauce added a nice spice kick and the cabbage was nice and crispy. They even threw in a couple of slices of lime per taco; and who doesn't love a fresh squeeze of lime on their fish tacos? I ordered online and it took just a couple of minutes longer than they told me it would take. It was a busy Friday lunch time though. It didn't take excessively long either. The staff was polite. First time ever in a Rusty Taco today. We will definitely be back! I love that you can order tacos a la carte so that I can try three tacos in one meal. The chips and queso was huge and you get free refills on chips. The tacos were great. So far the fried chicken taco is the favorite with me and my spouse. Rusty Tack was our favorite taco place when we lived in Minneapolis so we were so excited to see they were opening a location in Albuquerque. Within a week of their opening, 24 went on a date night to Rusty and were not disappointed. It was just good as we had remembered. Very friendly staff and very cute atmosphere but I don't know why you would call these tacos. They need to change the recipe are they won't make it three months in New Mexico. They had a barbecue taco that was bewildering and tasted unusual to be kind. You could tell the ingredients were fresh but I have no clue what they were trying to do with it or any of their tacos. Food was cold. Staff was very unfriendly. During the entirety of my meal all of the surrounding tables sat with food and plates left all over it. Margaritas although served in a pint glass, only come with half an ounce of tequila. Driving through the area and was looking for some good Mexican food. Got on Yelp and decided on The Rusty Taco. Interior of the restaurant reminds me of a Chipotle or a Tijuana Flats. It was clean and the garage door was open giving a nice breeze. I ordered 1 shrimp taco and 1 fish taco. First impression was that they are small. The shrimp taco had about 4 SMALL shrimp on it but it tasted ok. It wasnt anything special. The fish taco was such a huge disappointment; fish was so over cooked it was in edible. In town for business and decided to give this joint a try. Had the brisket and carnitas. Both were great. The carnitas had a nice smoke ring on the meant and it was really good.
