While planning our dinner party months in advance, the communication from Janine was excellent. She helped us develop a 4-course menu that was sure to have something for everyone, including vegan and allergy friendly options. Amy was our server for the evening, and she ensured we had everything we needed to enjoy our evening. The chairs in the Meyer's Den are wide and comfortable, the decor is dark and classy, and being in the basement away from the dining room made it very quiet and easy to converse with family. The room is rather spacious for 12 guests, but could also accommodate a few more people without feeling cramped. Out of the appetizers we selected, the Charred Octopus was very popular and everyone enjoyed it...even those that had never previously eaten octopus. The baby cauliflower dish was also a beautiful presentation, and quite large and enjoyable. The salads, particularly the Charred Hurricane salad, were nice light courses before the entree was served. As for the entrees, the filet mignon was a little on the dry side, but we really enjoyed the light and crispy spinach fritters that accompanied the beef. The salmon was a generous portion of medium rare fish, and there was lot going on with that dish - spicy cauliflower and za'atar potatoes that had some mixed reviews. Folks who ordered the duck breast seemed to enjoy the complex preparation, which had asparagus, green beans, and two pureed sauces - cauliflower ginger and cherry-rhubarb. The doughnut bread pudding with apple pieces and vanilla ice cream was a delicious, decadent way to end the meal. We left rather stuffed, and delighted with the overall experience that allowed our family to celebrate together.

My friend and I ordered mocktails which we both enjoyed. We then ordered gochu belly buns and the braised beef French onion soup. Mine wasn't anything crazy, tasted as I expected but it was still good. My friend, on the other hand, did not love her dish. She is a big curry person and said the sauce lacked flavor (which I tried and agreed with). The tofu was nice and crispy, dry though. There wasn't enough sauce in the dish. The mushrooms were the most flavorful.

Each course was perfect and service from Russell was attentive and leisurely. The steak was charred outside and medium rare throughout. Recommended by our server, it was dry aged and delicious as promised. It was sliced in the kitchen for ease of sharing and we even had a couple of slices to take home. Some au poivre sauce was gladly provided to go. A great meal. Just a suggestion for Yelpers, if you are dining during daylight, make a reservation far in advance requesting a table towards the back of the restaurant. The glare from the front window can spoil the atmosphere! I've added a photo of the menu on the photo page since it's hard to find online.. most everything is shareable.

We had a later reservation, since it was last minute and on a Saturday night. They were pretty busy, but we found a parking spot and was seated right away. Thea was our server, and the team here was exactly the same as it was in August. Super friendly, professional, and helpful when it came to understanding the menu and specials for the night. We started with a cocktail each, while choosing to get one appetizer (pork belly, which I highly recommended) to share before we went right into dinner. It was perfect. The smoked grits and microgreens complemented the pork belly, and it was basically mowed down by mostly me, HA! My sister in law got a steak, my brother went with the pork chop, and I had the Steak Frites. We had three sides, mac and cheese (I insisted based on the last visit), asparagus, and mashed potatoes. Incredible execution! When our entrees were ordered, we asked to speak to someone about a wine recommendation. Chris the GM came over, and he did remember me coming by earlier in the summer which was a surprise and really cool to have happen. I told him that I LOVED it here, having left in 2000 I never got to know Max's until 2025! We almost ate everything, but still had leftovers to be able to take home for another time. My thanks to the group here, from Thea, Chris, and front of house, and to the team in the back of the house, for excellent execution and an enjoyable evening out to treat my family. It feels like a hidden locals-only joint where you can grab a glass of your fave from a thoughtfully curated list of delicious options, and settle in with your better half, besties or a group of friends and just chill. We've been to Apogee a number of times before and 'after' covid, in colder months when we've been lucky to snag a window table, and in warmer times, like tonight, when we can sit outside and enjoy the flickering fireflies along with our sparkling rosè. Besides the pleasant atmosphere, Apogee has a beautifully appointed interior space, clean bathrooms, and a menu with cheese plates, cake, and more wines than you could taste in a summer. All of that plus super knowledgable 'bar tenders' (more like wine sommeliers) who can take your possibly clumsy description of what you think you want and offer up several perfect options, and you have the makings of a very pleasant evening. Book mark this place and plan to spend at least an hour enjoying an outside table!

As a special events venue, Apogee was flexible with outside food and also with decorations. There was no additional venue rental/site fee, just a minimum spend amount (which we were confident that we would exceed). The venue is cozy and intimate, but has high ceilings so it did not feel claustrophobic at all, even with 30+ guests at one point. I'm a wine snob myself, so I was a bit skeptical initially when I saw their wine list. Most of the wines they serve retail for $10-20. They do have some bottles that are more expensive (retail ~$30). However, after tasting some of their entry level wines (Ancient Peaks Zinfandel & Gouguenheim Malbec), my worries vanished. Everything I tasted was excellent and drank better than their actual price point. Steve was a great host. He was laid back, but still friendly and attentive to all of our guests. He made sure everybody's drink needs were satisfied. He was also flexible with letting us in the venue early to set up and also staying late to clean up. I also liked the fact that they allowed us to bring our own wine, for a $15 per bottle corkage fee, which is fair. Anyways, Apogee is a great venue for a small party. They are flexible and reasonable. I would definitely recommend them as a wine bar and for hosting a private event (especially on a Sunday).
