This cozy little restaurant is truly a hidden gem - I can't begin to describe how impressed I was with the whole experience - the kind and welcoming staff, the cozy ambiance, and of course the amazing food. We arrived around 11:30 - I started with a mango mimosa - it was outstanding. Not too sweet, with just the right amount of mango as not to overpower the champagne. I ordered the Pumpkin Croque Monsieur - Yes, pumpkin. It was heavenly. It had a soft slice of pumpkin, finely shredded apple, sage, and a béchamel deliciously packed between two golden slices of buttery grilled bread. I added ham and a sunny side up egg - best decision of the day. The light salt in the ham played well with the pumpkin, and the egg yolk made the entire sandwich come together. It was served with a side of greens - perfectly dressed of course. By boyfriend ordered the Maple Bourbon Turkey Sandwich on a Kaiser roll. He opted for the hand cut chips instead of greens. Of course I had to try his too, and I was not disappointed. The turkey had great flavor, and the bacon and brie added a level of richness to keep the whole sandwich from coming off as dry which can sometimes happen with turkey. The chips were excellent - think of Cape Cod Kettle chips, but darker and more flavorful. If you are in the Burlington VT are, I highly suggest you give this place a try - it's superb. read more

The rustic roots is a amazing place for breakfast. The food is amazing. I ordered the blue berry pancakes. The blueberry pancake is the most unique pancake I have ever seen and eaten. It was huge and tasted amazing. My girl friend order the crapes and she loved it. The coffee was also great as well! The staff were very nice and I always had a full cup of coffee and water. Hard to believe, but Rustic Roots was our second choice for the day. We had a gift certificate to The Inn at Shelburne Farms, but did not get the memo that they close on 11/1. SO, to Rustic Roots we went. We scored one of the last parking spots and walked in. The tiny dining room meant a 45 minute wait, but "would you like to sit at the bar" in those freshly-available (and still warm) seats? YES. This was a pleasurable experience all-around. My wife, a Bloody Mary connoisseur, absolutely loved the Rustic Roots rendition. There was brie in her Bloody Mary. Who does that!? Awesome. The coffee was bottomless and frequently filled without asking. I always crave quiche, so I ordered that. Terrific. Mi esposa ordered the Eggs Benedict... loved it. Service was friendly and fast. Our food & drinks were delicious. It took a little bit longer than you would expect for breakfast to come out, but we didn't mind as we were not in a rush at all. Once the food did come, we felt as though we were immediately being moved along as numerous times different people can by trying to clear our plates even though they were still full of food & we were still eating. After all of the plates were cleared we were told, "I absolutely don't mean to rush you, but we have a reservation for this table." Meanwhile, I still had more than half of my $15 cocktail in front of me. I could understand if we were taking our time, not ordering anything or eating anything, but we were not finished & were basically asked to leave while still chewing our food. I would also be more understanding if the food was served quickly, but it wasn't & we were just trying to enjoy a nice family breakfast. I feel like if you are spending $130 on pancakes & eggs, you should be able to sit & eat without being pushed out the door. I am disappointed, as the food was great & our server was very pleasant. I have been to Rustic Roots at least 8 times since it opened earlier this year. I believe it is the best restaurant in Shelburne. Rustic Roots is located in a spot where many other eateries have tried and failed to make a success of it. Rustic Roots seems to have gotten the formula almost perfect and will no doubt remain in its current location a long time (if the two owners wish to be). Currently, Rustic Roots just serves breakfast, brunch and lunch, Wednesdays-Sundays. The space itself isn't very cozy, it's a pretty small-sized room with wooden tables and a small bar. I believe that the space fits perhaps 12 tables. Luckily the food at Rustic Roots makes up for the fact that the setting is perhaps a bit cold and "old-time school house". I believe they make pretty much EVERYTHING there from scratch. I've generally visited for brunch or lunch and have tried such items as the omelette (changes regularly), the eggs Benedict, the baked strawberry pancake, a wrap (they change regularly), some salads, a soup and the honey ricotta walnut crepe. All the food is very good. I'm giving the restaurant a 4-star review and not a 5 star one because I feel like there is something that's lacking in the warmth and comfort of the setting and some of the food. Though the taste of everything I've ordered is very good, sometimes things can be a bit dry, or it feels like there is a sauce lacking to tie various dishes together. For example, all of my omelets have been almost perfect in flavor, but occasionally I've wished they were more moist. The baked strawberry pancake looks heavenly on the plate and is so large as to be two meals in and of itself, but the time I ordered it there were only a few strawberries in the pancake (three bits of strawberry in a 20 bite pancake is not enough) and the small amount of maple syrup they served with it was not nearly enough even for half the pancake. My brunch companion and I had to ask for more syrup at least three times. On the other hand,the honey ricotta walnut crepe was perfect. Some of my salads have been almost unreal in their flavor. And kudos to the kitchen for using truffle oil to enhance the taste of the omelets, making eating them an almost sublime experience. It's hard to explain. In theory, this restaurant is lovely. Such a good idea and so impressive that they put such attention into their ingredients and certain details, but it could be better in some ways and therefore, regretfully, I give it only 4 stars. In cases such as these, I think reviews are very subjective and it's a question of taste. I would definitely pick Rustic Roots as being one of the top 5 brunch spots in the near Burlington area. (Pennycluse, Sneakers, Juniper restaurant and Hotel VT and then on it's good days perhaps Mirabelles make up my top 5). I love brunch and like variety. I'm so pleased that Rustic Roots has moved to Shelburne and that it's such a favorite with locals and out of towners alike. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped by on our way home from Burlington, walked in and it was pretty busy but they got us seated almost immediately. Menu had great options, and we went with the eggs Benedict, mine being the salmon. It was out of this world. The smoked salmon tasted amazing, and the Benedict sauce was probably the best we've had. Service was great, all the ladies were super nice and made sure we always had drinks. The atmosphere was great, the place is super cute. We'd definitely come back when we're in town for sure! First time back in a little while and if anything it was even better. It's a small place so there can be a wait but the staff are so friendly and accommodating it wasn't too bad at all. Very cosy ambiance with lots of artwork on the walls. The food was delicious, our daughter devoured the grilled cheese and my wife loved her lox scramble with popover. The popover (which I got on the side) was very tasty, with a herbed butter and I got the special meat quiche that was very good. Yes 5 years ago I was not impressed with this restaurant...so it was an interesting surprise when the people from Rustic Roots reached out and asked me if I had been there and would want to do another review. Thanks for reminding me... Several years went by and we decided to go back to Rustic Roots, the whole atmosphere had changed people were not so up tight, the food was excellent the service was excellent and yes they did their best to find you a table in a timely manner. So chef owner of Rustic Roots and Ashley, you will laugh because we have been coming there at least once a month...it is the favorite of our daughter from California, we were just there with her...our friend from Princeton also loved it and last month we introduced the restaurant to friends from Milwaukee . If you remember an elderly gent (he is 86) who comes in and before he sits down he orders shirred eggs that is us...I on the other hand try something new each time although I do have my favorites, right now it is the Nicoise. By far the best breakfast place if you're in the BVT area. I went here on a spur of the moment search for breakfast, and it was great. It was such a cool place with beautiful art for sale on the walls. I got a cider mimosa that was the most delicious mimosa I've ever had. And then I had the lox scramble, which was good, but by far the best part of that plate was the popover. So good and with melted butter. So so delicious. I take pride in breakfast . I love eggs anyway all the time. I went here for breakfast Saturday morning and was met with a charming atmosphere. It didn't take long for the wait. We were seated pretty quickly. I ordered the shirred eggs and the reason they don't get 5 stars is because the waiting had just begun. It took well over 40 minutes from the placement of my order to me tracking down our waitress , because nobody stopped by our table to communicate, refill water or my coffee. It took over 40 minutes for our meal to finally arrive. I had asked if the kitchen was slammed or something although there was no big change over of tables. She replied that the shirred eggs took that long to cook...Im not an idiot and would have appreciated an honest answer, with an apology.
