They have a small bar, and actually have a liquor license here too. They have Titos vodka, and organic Praire gin along witb some other regional options and of course some of the usual suspects. The menu is small and they serve breakfast all day. They are open some evenings for dinner as well I gather. But focus is breakfast and lunch. I had their popular breakfast option that included eggs, breakfast meats, potatoes and a popover. The eggs were poached without hesitation, and poached really nicely. The breakfast meats were good, I much preferred the sausage to the ham. The popover was great. The service was good and attentive. I can see why this place is so highly rated. The sandwiches were substantial and the service was excellent & incredibly friendly (especially when I had to call back a second time to ask if they could actually hold off on making the sandwiches because we wouldn't be arriving for another 30 minutes to pick them up). Stopped in for a late breakfast and was quickly seated at the bar. Nice quant surroundings, and it was fun to hear the staff welcome the majority of the people entering by their first names. Clearly this is a popular place with the locals. The ice coffee was above average, great taste (not watered down). I got a spinach and bacon omelette home fries and a popover. The omelette was outstanding, really fresh, fluffy and perfectly cooked! The home fries were just ok, a little dry and no real flavor. The popover was a little over cooked so the outside was a little too crunchy and dry. Service was superb but the place could use a good deep clean. Sitting at the bar I had time to stare at the nooks and crannies that could use a scrub. As always wish I could give half stars I would give a 3.5 based on potential. The good here outweighs the average, there is NO bad here. If I'm in the area I will return, the omelette, coffee and service would be worth the trip. read more

This is a small place and pretty loud, but they have a small wrap-around deck so we sat outside. The food was interesting, everything was just a bit different than we were expecting. The pancakes were fluffy but also a bit tough, the french toast was a type of wheat bread I think, the coffee maple sausage didn't taste like coffee or maple but it was pretty good, and the eggs were eggs. Definitely worth trying, but be prepared for something a bit different than your average diner. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in all of Vermont. Great food, great vibes, great art, and every employee is wonderful. We miss sitting in "our spot" inside the restaurant very much. We arrived for brunch around noon and were able to be seated immediately; it looked like we had narrowly caught the tail end of a brunch rush so maybe call ahead or plan to wait since the dining area has limited seating. The interior, as the name conjures, is totally rustic themed - lots of exposed and weathered wood (tables, chairs, walls, ceilings, bar counter). They feature a local artist on a rotating basis and always have work for sale (postcards, pottery, and prints). The food is tastefully crafted and artfully presented - local and fresh. In the past I have always gotten the seasonal sandwich (pumpkin croquette was my favorite so far) but today I went with the namesake 'rustic breakfast' and a well crafted iced coffee. Eggs (over-easy) were cooked to perfection, popover marmalade was absolutely out of this world (and filling - so come hungry!). My friend ordered the eggplant & hummus wrap - also rave-worthy. Rustic Roots primarily does breakfast & lunch - and is now open for dinner select nights in the week. Charming and cozy, this is a delightful stop. Called ahead and were able to make a reservation for dinner on a Friday. Upon arrival the hostess and owner were more than accommodating and let us sit at a table of our choosing. We decided we wanted to mingle and sat at the bar. After ordering drinks the menu was explained to us and we decided on the 3 course meal complete with popovers. The appetizers were great and between the two of us, we got 4 small plates and shared. All of the dishes were delicious and my favorite was the truffle popcorn. Highly recommend getting a bag and putting it in your purse for a movie later. My husband ordered the pork chops and I ordered the chicken off of their October menu. Both were cooked perfectly and were well balanced plates. Deserts and drinks also had a high attention to detail. This place was a great find while on our honeymoon. I went to Rustic Roots today for brunch! It is a little gem of a restaurant in Shelburne Village. My SIL lives in town and we like to go here for breakfast cuz the food is always so good! We both ordered the Rustic Breakfast (I think that was what it was called). Two eggs (your way), sausage, ham, potatos and a popover. It was fresh, perfectly prepared, and hearty. We didnt have to wait long either. We took seats at the little bar and were waited on by the adorable Morgan (she probably gets sick of being called adorable but it totally fits!). She was friendly, attentive and professional. She gave us a little of the homemade marmelade to slather on our popover (popovers were killer!). Yummy! Easily one of the top three best brunch experiences I've ever had, hands down! (And that's saying a lot given how many times I've been out to brunch, and to how many different places.) We decided to stop here on our way back to Boston after our weekend stay in Burlington. This place was recommended to me by a friend who is local to the area. She told us it was a scenic drive from Burlington - which it is, as long as you don't take the most direct route via Shelburne Rd. The drive back to 89 from here was stunning via the back roads. Vermont is just gorgeous. Anyway, this is a very, very small farm to table spot. There are about (8) to (10) tables, and a bar that seats (6.) We arrived around 11:30 on a Sunday morning and waited a little less than a half hour for a table - definitely not bad and so worth the wait. There is some parking in the back - but I think the lot fills up rather quickly (there was only one spot when we arrived.) Inside, they have artwork from local artists up for sale on the walls, which I thought was a nice touch. The staff is very friendly and attentive, and I appreciated that our waitress never once made us feel rushed despite how small the restaurant is. I started off with the Bloody Mary, which for $10, comes with the works - a little skewer with olive, pickle, Brie cheese, bacon, tomato, and a tater tot. It was delicious! Definitely not super spicy either, which I appreciated. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, and my boyfriend ordered the Shirred Eggs. The Benny was superb - I really liked how both eggs were served on once piece of toast, so you don't fill up so much on the bread. And, they drown it in Hollandaise (the best part!) It was absolutely delicious, and super filling - highly recommend. (Also, the butter they use on their toast is heavenly.) Even though we were honestly bursting at the seams post-entree, we couldn't NOT order desert! We ordered the Apple Streusel & a Kahlua/cocoa/coffee desert martini (can't remember the exact name of it.) We shared both - but honestly, the martini was a desert in itself. The apples in the Struesel were cooked perfectly - soft, but still a little bit crunchy. The definition of "comfort food," for sure. This was my first meal during my trip to Vermont and it was absolutely amazing. Not only was everything we ordered incredibly delicious, but the service was extremely friendly. The sliced meats in all the sandwiches were extraordinary. They had amazing flavor and were nice and juicy. The fresh baked breads were hearty, with great flavor and were nicely toasted. The spreads/sauces/jams that were on each sandwich also paired perfectly with all the flavors. Their pastrami sandwich was definitely my favorite of all the ones I tried. The savoriness of the pastrami and the tanginess of their whole grain mustard was simply delicious. The service was super friendly, quick and provided great suggestions on the food. They even went above and beyond and gave me great suggestions on places, restaurants and breweries to visit during my time in Vermont. Overall it was simply an excellent dining experience and I will definitely be dining here again the next time I am in Vermont! read more

Bloodys were great again. Regular Eggs Bene were good. Asparagus, pea, & ricotta omelette was OK but didn't wow us. The food.....I had the shirred eggs with sausage, spinach, and a side of hollandaise (pro tip - they'll happily provide the side), and a side salad. Everyone else got eggs Benedict. We started with the giant fluffy blueberry pancake which was quite tasty but I wanted more butter and moisture. It also comes with a side of home fries for some odd reason, but they were good, kind of bland. My eggs were awesome and everyone was very happy with their food. No one ordered coffee (I don't know how) so no comments there. It's a small farmhouse building, only about 8 tables and a small albeit fully stocked bar. Very cozy and pleasant.
