Very beautiful place with lots of gorgeous wood. Actually quite stunning. Disinterested, unfriendly barista who made a boring chai latte from scratch (I assume). After I doctored it with sugar, which I never use, as well as cinnamon and nutmeg, it became drinkable -- just barely. I'm giving a 3 rating because the place itself is so beautiful. Cappuccino was good. The interior is so cool and rustic. This place has been around for a long time..we always loved coming here... but this last trip the vibe has changed...uh LOT! I agree with other review from bastion.. What's up with the dark emo soundtrack to a dark murder thriller movie playing for ambiance?? Someone didn't get enough hugs growing up. I would have stayed longer and studied there and spent a ton more money drinking and eating and leaving generous tips but unfortunately the music made the atmosphere feel like we were all wandering aimlessly through the misty darkness of someone's dramatically troubled childhood. Looking for a latte and saw on Yelp that Muddy Waters was highly rated. The inside is absolutely beautiful. Loved the wood decor and plants and...creatures? lol Whatever they are, it made it feel unique. There was no line and service was pretty quick. I tried the maple latte (when in Vermont, how can you not try everything Maple?). I'm glad I got the small, the espresso was pretty good, but not sure if it would be my regular choice. I would love to try other flavors or their coffee. Overall, would come back to try more. read more

I went on a Sunday morning & got a bagel & iced latte. The five olive cream cheese was amazing highly recommend. I got an iced latte with maple (add on) and it was delicious, I'd rate a 9/10! My wife and I went to celebrate our first year in Vermont--we moved from Florida. The visual vibe is earthy and artistic, and my ginger lemonade was excellent--not too sweet, which was nice. The bathroom is hidden, but there--just ask one of the baristas. We sat in the super soft cushiony booth, and saw all of the notes people stick in the holes and crevices of the walls but didn't read any. The only downside to the place was the depressing folk-rock music--I hated it and would have enjoyed something more upbeat and happy like Yeemz, maybe, or any kind of Jazz. We'll go back. read more

The layout of this shop is really cool with the wood and natural vibes. Service was just one person, and he was fine nothing subpar or superb. Had a bagel, it was pretty good nothing special. They were out of cold brew so we got two iced coffees, and they were like crazy bad. Hopefully just a bad batch but it was disappointing. Muddy Water was...odd. The coffee itself was delicious, our group of 4 has a raspberry latte, regular coffee, a lavender latte, and a cappuccino. But the service and atmosphere is less than desirable. The line was extremely long, leaving us waiting for about 20 minutes. The baristas were not kind at all--you'd think after the wait, we'd at least be greeted. I have seen reviews similar to this for Muddy Waters, and I can attest that this has not changed. The place itself has a very negative vibe to it, and there are plenty of other coffee places around that will probably be kinder to you if you're in the area. The coffee was good, but the hostility that the customers face that has been a constant issue at this establishment is not worth it. read more

Such a cute little spot. Didn't even know it was a cafe because of the really cool monster art figures they have throughout the store. My toddler loved the monsters. Ordered a carrot, apple, ginger juice. It was ok. Very strong ginger flavor and I just wish it was colder. Toddler chugged it though, as he never gets juice. Lovely coffee shop in downtown Burlington with the freshest snacks and amazing lattes. Their coffee menu is so big with a ton of options to choose from. A couple of the best sounding things were cappuccino, raspberry hot chocolate, latte, smoothies, etc. Most of the drinks could be ordered as an 8oz. or 12oz. and either a single or double shot of espresso. My drink was good. I loved the atmosphere of this place - with the wood and the plants it felt very tropical. Lots of seating options and good iced lattes. I was about to try some food but saw a couple flies sitting on it as I got closer to the counter as the bakery was not covered with anything. Muddy Waters is the perfect coffeeshop in downtown Burlington. Its space is comfy cozy and has a nook and cranny for everyone. There are a lot of plants, exposed wood, art displays, and the music they play contributes to its Crunchy Granola & Rustic feel... its very very "Vermont". I got a white hot chocolate the last time I was there and it totally blew my mind how delish it was! My husband got the ginger cider, which smelled like heaven to the whole table. Muddy Waters also serves beer, food, snacks, and pretty much any coffee drink you could want. The employees are great, and really helpful if you can't decide on what to get. I would say this is the perfect place to go study if you are a student, and definitely a must see if you are a visitor! read more
