Plastic that was inside the sandwiches :(

Pros: nice hearty sandwich which is exactly what we wanted. Cons: we found blue shreds of plastic inside three of our four sandwiches. When my husband went in to show the staff, they brushed him off like it was nothing, saying "oh, that's just from a kitchen supply, nothing grody." No apology or anything. Like it happens all the time. Overall not a welcoming place. In this age where we are overly kind and respectful to employees, it's disheartening when we don't get that in return.

    Breakfast Burrito!

Good homemade food well made. Delicious sandwiches, soups and salads, yummy sweets, awesome breakfast burrito. Daily specials so the menu always has new things to entice you. I come here once a week for my breakfast burrito and other times for lunch or a goodie. Woman and locally owned.

I can't remember when the first time I was exposed to Red Onion sandwiches. It had to be while I was interning for the Church Street Marketplace. This pedestrian street grew on me during this internship mainly because although it was just three miles from my birthplace, it was an area unexplored by this mini Magellan until I reached the college years. I can't call The Red Onion a deli, a sandwich shop or a sub store because of my fear that someone is going to associate to a Subway. It may better be described as a coffee shop meets your grandmother's kitchen but looks like your buddy's college apartment. If that doesn't conjure a picture in your head, it's not supposed to because chances are you have never had a Red Onion experience before. It is noticeably different the second you open the door, a seemingly refurbished door that would be more likely lead to a living room of large Victorian, not an eating establishment. Once through this rustic gate-keeper your first impression won't be visual but of smell. Freshly baked bread with notes of fresh grains and oats quickly overcome any frustration of finding a parking place anywhere nearby. Now, listen up. Listen to the difficult decisions that await you. You'll need to know these or they will hit you all at once sending you into a furry no unlike the snowy formations that gather outside of the Red Onion windows in winter. Breads: Rosemary Garlic, Honey Oat, 9 Grain, Wheat, Sourdough, French Bread; Meats: The usuals and all meats are slow roasted on the premise. Toppings, Red Onions (of course), Sprouts, Green Apples. Cheeses: Way too many to list but by far my favorite is the smoked maple cheddar. First of all, any person that combines green apples and cheddar with premium meat should be called an artist not a sandwich maker. In my opinion, combining the red onions, the maple smoked cheddar, and granny smith apples and fresh bread that is always cooked that morning are what make these sandwiches a delight, no, an indulgence. Red Onion is a diamond in the ruff and an eatery that this guy really misses.

The staff is rude, the sandwich was tiny. I thought it was just me, but they were rude to the person behind me too.

We came to Rocker's on word of mouth from our plumber! He…read morelives in Vergennes. We live in Hinesburg. I wanted a Philly Cheese Steak. My wife wanted her fav, a Margherita Pizza. I also ordered Onion Rings. I asked the counter person what cut of steak they used for their Philly's. She politely offered that they use shaved steak. I asked if it was Rib-Eye or Top Round or Sirloin, because the word 'steak' can mean any cut of beef really. She said she would go out back in the kitchen an ask - came back in a moment and said, 'Rib-Eye'. "Great", I said and ordered a whole / lg. Our order only took a brief time before being delivered to our dining room table by the same counter person. She was very nice / good people skills...a good first impression...we were 1st time customers and...matter of factly....we used to own and operate our own pizza shop for ten years. She was a good staff member to represent their business at the front counter! The food. My Philly was outstanding. Moist. Not dry like some others I've had out. So many places use cheap Top Round of Beef, shaved thin to cut costs. This one was VERY good. I could only eat half / brought the other half with us. When the counter woman placed my wife's 'Margherita' pizza down on the table, I said, 'now THAT is a great looking pizza'!!! The counter woman said, 'yeah...it DOES look great'....'it's my favorite pizza'! And it WAS very very good. Cooked perfectly..golden crust...just the right amount of sauce to fresh mozz - cheese ratio....fresh chopped Basil sprinkled on top....and added AFTER it came out of the oven..I could tell. Perfect. She loved it. The Onion Rings? Cooked golden, perfect. They were not only cooked correctly, they tasted great and were HOT. I'm not trying to diss other restaurants but sometimes....sometimes they must cook their fries or OR's way too early in the order and must put them under a heat lamp...when they SHOULD be cooked just before the order goes out to the table....these WERE!!! And most places DO NOT make their own OR's....too messy, labor intensive..these tasted like Brew City OR's...a brand...but if not...they were VERY VERY good!!! So all and all, a very good job by 'Rocker's' on our first visit....I asked the counter woman who made the Philly / she told me / so I ventured into the kitchen and gave the crew a two thumbs up to all! Yes I did! Because I used to own my own pizzeria....and I know how hard the industry is.....I thanked them! I am a pizziolo and have been making pizzas since 1969 at The Tower Restaurant on Williston Rd, South Burlington. This was a very good pizza! By the way...it was our 50th Wedding Anniversary that day! They did a great job / and we left happy. Thanks again - Good Job staff!!! Continued success! Dave M.
