I was looking for something special to do with my granddaughters, and this was just the thing. My best friend met up with us for a princess tea time lunch, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. Everything down to the finest details about our lunch was so wonderful, that it's hard to narrow down for brevity. The setting, the decor, the exceptional service, the food and the tea and their presentation...perfect. So lovely. A few of us have food allergies, and they were easily accommodated for. They have a nice selection of gluten free options, and what we sampled was delicious. The girls were all so tickled with their Princess Tea lunch. They received crowns, and we couldn't help but notice that each girl received a color that matched their outfit. Having a selection of finger sandwiches and little sweet treats thrilled them just as much as having pots of tea to sample from their pretty little teacups. Even the smallest details were tended to. My second experience was vastly different than my first. My sister organized what was to be a special luncheon for my twin granddaughters who were home from college for Christmas break. My daughter is on a gluten free diet and seeing no GF offerings on the menu she ate before we went but joined us for the experience. Our reservation was for 12:30. We were seated within a few minutes. Our waitress, Ashlyn, arrived and introduced herself, promising to be back soon. 30 minutes later she returned and asked if we would like water. We said water and menus would be nice. 30 minutes later she brought a carafe of water and the menus. We had plenty of time to discuss the menu. When she returned she sat down in our extra chair and talked about the selections and made suggestions for us. Then told us to think about what we wanted and she would be back. 30 minutes later she returned and asked if we knew what we wanted. My sister told her we would like to order now. My granddaughters and I ordered the petite tea, consisting of a cup of soup, sandwich, scones and sweet treats, and tea. We all chose the baked potato soup, sweet and spicy turkey croissant, and vanilla almond tea - all served on a tiered tray. My GF daughter ordered a cup of tea. My sister ordered separately. Our tea pot was delivered and we waited for our order. Our waitress appeared 30 minutes later and asked if we needed anything. My sister said yes, we would like our orders. Our waitress apologized for the wait and said there was a mix up in orders in the kitchen. She reminded us that she did not prepare the food, just served it. Our food finally arrived. The cup of soup is literally a tea cup of soup and while it was delicious, it was 3 teaspoons of soup - which we used the same spoons we used for our tea as there were no soup spoons. The turkey croissant was grilled and flavorful, also 3 bites. The tea was now cold but the sweets were very tasty. When our waitress reappeared, she apologized for the long wait and offered to take half off my daughter's tea and noted that we would also save the tax that would be charged on the $5.00 tea. My sister told her that was not acceptable, that she thought half off the entire table was customary in the restaurant world, keeping in mind we have been there over 3 hours. The waitress said she would talk to the manager, then came back and asked us to meet the manager at the register. We ended up receiving half off the entire bill and there was half off for my daughter's tea. 3 stars for adjusting the bill and for the delicious food, that's 2 stars less than my previous glowing review for making my granddaughters first "tea room" experience less than stellar. read more

I went to Rustic Root for my birthday in February. I didn't make a reservation, even though my birthday is around Valentine's Day, and they were still able to seat me and a few friends on a Saturday. I got a tea flight, which allowed me to pick four teas to try. I loved that option as they have a fairly large selection of teas. My favorite was the Victorian Rose, by far! Food options here aren't very me-friendly as someone who is gluten free and dairy free by necessity. So I didn't order any food myself. My friends did, though, and theirs looked pretty good! They were happy with their meals. I do wish they'd add a gluten free and dairy free option of some kind--even if it's offering some cookies or galettes from Native Bread or something of that nature like coffee shops do. It would make this a spot I'd come visit more often, for sure! The shop section has plenty of goodies that would make for fun gifts--teas, local lotions, cool bags, etc. So you can stop in for some gift items even if you're not having tea. We had a large group, about 20 of us. The only knock I had on this tea shop was they only had one gal waiting on 20 of us, Destiny, she did a great job but really they could have used two for the number of people we had. Because of the number of people we had the food did not all come out at the same time. In the end all of the food was delicious so no complaints there. I ordered the Cream Tea option and it included a cup of soup, a scone with clotted cream and jam, a few crackers for the soup, and a cup of tea. It was really the perfect amount of food for lunch. Our party came in at 1:00 p.m. I also found the prices to be right for a tea shop. I had the special soup of the day which was chicken velvet and the viscosity on the soup was a tiny bit thin but it was tasty. The decor was very pretty inside and they had everything set for the holidays. They also have a gift shop in the front of the store where you can buy their teas and many other items. I purchased some holiday soaps while I was in the shop. They had our group in a room all to ourselves and there were three tables of us. I think overall everybody was pleased. I'm not quite sure how I worked so close to Rustic Root or had been to the area so many times yet never eaten here! One day I was looking for a different option for lunch and realized they had chicken salad AND gluten free bread or wraps. I ordered food for pick up. I was a bit overwhelmed by so many cute things in the area set for various vendors (including Bass Farms) but knew this would need to be another day's visit. The chicken salad was great! So great I decided to get it the next week as well. Then still so good that I recommended it for an employee's birthday lunch. 3 of us got the chicken salad, one the chicken croissant, loaded potato soup and then various desserts (the GF peanut butter cookie is delish). Disclaimer: I'd rate this place ten stars if Yelp allowed it. I came here with a group of 6, where none of us had been and some weren't really tea drinkers. Spoiler: this might be an annual spot for us. Three of us opted for the grand tea time and 2/3 of us, and another of our party, got tea flights. That is so much tea. But it was all so delicious! The grand tea time option comes with the best deal of assorted foods and teas in my opinion. You get three pots of teas, two half sandwiches, scones and coffee cake, and a few other mini dessert items. For $22! Tea flights are $9, for 4 tea flavors and they bring unlimited hot water. My half sandwiches for the grand tea time were the sweet and spicy turkey croissant and the oven roasted turkey panini. Both were fantastic, and I would say the "spicy" was more of a "savory". Food aside, we love the rustic charm that the interior has. Our party was sat in a lovely gazebo. It seems like much of the available seating was sectioned off into more intimate areas which is always lovely. They also have their own private room for booking larger parties. I went here for a friend's birthday. The interior is adorable! We were seated under the gazebo. The main area is so sweet how it's divided into little rooms that allow for more privacy. The food was SO GOOD! I went in on the grand tea time with two friends. For the sandwiches I got the oven roasted turkey panini and the sweet and spicy turkey sandwich. Both were amazing! One of my friends mentioned going here awhile ago. Well, all three of us went. I knew it was a tea room going into it. When you walk inside it's nice but overwhelming. You walk in and it's a gift shop and then tea rooms spread throughout. It doesn't have a good flow to it. We were seated and right off the bat I'm not going to lie the menu is confusing. So many options. The waitress we had seemed put off that two of us that had never been there seemed confused at the menu. So, starting out I don't appreciate that. So, once we FINALLY decided what to order it came out and they brought the wrong sandwiches. You could choose from egg, chicken or tuna salad. We ordered the chicken salad which came on croissants. The chicken salad was just chicken salad. I mean nothing special about it. Well, we ended up with egg salad. I'm not a fan of that neither are the rest of us. So, we're like hey we got the wrong sandwich so she comes out with tuna salad sandwiches not even cut like all the other sandwiches. So, we ended up cutting them in little triangles and added them to the tea tray. Ok, well I mean it wouldn't have hurt them to cut them like all the other sandwiches. So, we tried the tuna salad they weren't good. Now, I will say the presentation of the sandwiches and desserts is very pretty! I will give them that. But, the service and the salads were not great. The coffee cake I thought was very good! The other desserts were ok. So, we're sitting there and the waitress comes in and brings a dessert tray filled with cakes. So, we're thinking oh we get a slice of cake with the meal. NOPE!!! You don't!! lol She just came in to tell us the flavors. For the price you pay for that tea it should be included!!!! As far as the tea goes it's tea. We had I think four pots of tea between two people one doesn't drink tea. It was too much tea. The table needed plates and things taken off to make room. We had to keep shuffling things. But, our waitress didn't clear things as often as she should. All in all I don't think I would go back here. I don't say that often to a place. I am no tea afficiando but I do love my tea. The Rustic Root in Beech grove was perfect for a 21st birthday. The food was excellent and the tea divine enough that we bought some to take home. So why only 4 stars. This was a saturday afternoon in September and frankly the service was indifferent. They were nice when they came to the table but that was very few and far between. We waited about 30 minutes to be seated then another 20 minutes to get the orders down. Absolutely lovely. This tea room is just lovely! I would definitely recommend a reservation. They have multiple rooms and the decor is just beautiful. I especially loved all the china. They have a theme throughout the restaurant that is very special to the owners, which are sisters and we're both working during this visit. One seated us and the other served us. They we're very friendly and the service was excellent. They have a book on the table that explains the theme of the red truck and tea. It's very sweet and I won't spoil it for you. We had the raspberries and creme tea, which was excellent. My friend had a croissant to snack on and enjoyed it. We just came here to catch up and really enjoyed it. This is a family owned business in Beech Grove, where the two sisters are the waiters, their mother's china is on the wall in the Rose Room, and their father's old red truck is displayed as you enter. It's both a gift shop and a restaurant. There are many handmade items for sale throughout the place. If dining in, there are about 4 rooms set up with varying sized tables, including a large round table inside a gazebo in the center. Each room is quaintly decorated with an intimate vibe. They have core menu items, but add a couple seasonal items/specials also. They offer sandwiches, soups, salads, breakfast, brunch, desserts and tea. Owners Jenny and Tammy can be seen hustling around the place. They have a booklet on each table, which tells the history of the business (so I won't spoil it here), but they have been open since 2015 and moved to a bigger(current) location in 2017. They are right next door to Gwendolyn Lee Cakes. Today was my first visit, and I dined alone at lunch time. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to get in right away, or even needed reservations, because from what I'd seen online, it appeared to only be able to seat a few people. You could tell they weren't used to solo diners, as I received some awkward pauses and comments from staff. I ordered the soup and 1/2 sandwich combo with the turkey panini and potato soup. Everything is made fresh in store, and you could definitely tell with the soup. It tasted like a homemade soup, it was delicious! I also ordered the tea flight, which allows you to pick 4 teas from the menu. Some of their teas are steeped at 3 min, 4 min and 5 min, and the menu has them separated out. They also write the name of the tea and steep time on the tea dish when they bring it out with a timer. You are also given fresh honey and sugar cubes. Each tea bag can be steeped up to four times. I ordered the apple, lavendar, dragon well green, and raspberry and cream teas. I steeped each tea twice, adding honey the first time and then sugar. Here are my results: I preferred the Lavendar Earl Gray tea with honey, the Dragon Well Green Tea with honey, the Raspberries and Cream tea with sugar, and the Apple Cinnamon tea with Sugar. I also heard they have excellent cinnamon bread, which is made with vanilla. They do take reservations, which I would suggest doing for weekends or parties over 4. I was told the best way to make reservations is by calling in. The largest table I saw seated 6, but the back room could probably hold 20 if the entire room was reserved. There is street parking out front and across the street. Some is regular, some is parallel and some is 2hr max. read more

I saw a recommendation for the Tea Room and decided to try it out with a friend. We meet regularly for lunch and love new places! We did not have reservations but at 11:30 that seemed ok. A few groups arrived with reservations.we were seated quickly after my friend arrived. While I was waiting I visited the bake shop between the dining areas. Such talent! It does not appear that ANYTHING is made on site as everything we ordered seemed to have been premade and store bought (especially cupcakes and treats) My mother and daughter both ordered the potato soup. I did enjoy the chicken salad however, I ordered the petite tea tray it was to come with a chicken salad sandwich and a couple of treats along with tea. I was sorely disappointed when the chicken salad sandwich I received was a half of a half of a sandwich. If this facility was getting rated on the food alone, I would've given it a one star. My mom and grandma organized a birthday brunch for me here and it was perfect. I literally couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate my birthday. The food, tea and mimosas were amazing. The quiche was one of the best quiches I've ever had. Don't even get me started on the cinnamon coffee cake!!!
