The space is beyond charming, with plenty of cozy seating and even private rooms upstairs that can be reserved for meetings or special events. The seasonal menu made it so hard to choose, but I'm a sucker for anything banana, so I went with the Grandma's Banana Bread Iced Latte. It was incredibly flavorful and tasted just like the name suggests. I was the only Black customer in the shop at the time, and the pattern of being repeatedly passed over while others were helped first did not feel random. When I asked about my order, I was told they were "busy," but that didn't match what I was seeing--people were consistently being served ahead of me. Being ignored for that long while others moved through quickly made me feel unwelcome and singled out. Whether intentional or not, the way this was handled came across as discriminatory and needs to be addressed. I hope management takes this seriously, looks into what happened, and ensures that all customers are treated fairly and respectfully.

They also have a large selection of brand new games and game novelties for purchase. In the very back, behind the coffee counter is a selection of games that can be played while in the store. I usually exclusively drink black coffee, but I heard that the chai latte here is dope so that's what I got. I'm glad I did! It was smooth and creamy, with just the right amount of spice. I also got a chocolate chip cookie, because it had fleur de sel on it. I love sweet things with salt on them! I like to think I'm a chocolate chip cookie connoisseur, and I can spot a great CCC just by glancing at it. I wasn't even in the mood for a cookie, but after looking at the cookies in the display case, I had to get a chocolate chip cookie because I knew it would be amazing. I told myself that I would take it home and eat it later, but I ended up eating it in my car. You guys. The chocolate chip cookies at Hitherto are perfect. I don't know if they make them in-house or source them from elsewhere, but if you want a little sweet treat and you're not sure what to get (they have lots of delicious-looking baked goods), get the chocolate chip cookie with fleur de sel. It's a good thing. The space inside the coffee shop is so cozy and inviting. It's a small space, but when I visited, there were plenty of tables available. Some people were tucked into a corner playing board games, some people were behind laptops working, and some were chatting with friends. It was a nice vibe, and I'm so glad a place like this exists in Indy. I just wish it were located closer to me! Part of the shop is a space dedicated to new board games that you can purchase. They had lots of games for all ages and interests, and even my oldest kid's favorite board game, Splendor. They also have board games that you can borrow and play at your table. My Cortado was perfect with a hint of almond milk nuttiness and I enjoyed my time working there. There's a variety of teas, smoothies and breakfast options such as bagels and muffins.
