I only had pie here so I can't comment on the rest of their food, but the pie was the best I ever had! Went with the North Shore Berry Crumble and the Caramel Apple Pecan. I would give a slight edge to the berry pie but both were outstanding and the slices were huge! Went to Betty's pies the next day and got similar flavors to compare and there is no comparison! It was worth the wait! I had the club sandwich and my boyfriend had the hot beef open faced sandwich. Both were excellent! They ran out of the five layer chocolate pie so we tried the apple and the peach and was not disappointed. We're planning on getting the chocolate pie to go on our way home. we were excited to try the Rustic Inn for lunch. it was a 30 minute wait....no worries. 45 minutes later we were told we were the next table to be seated. then the server told some else that they had a table ready for them and we're going to seat them ahead of my party if we didn't mind. of course I mind!! I have already waited close to and hour for a table and was told we were next and then you want to seat someone else who hasn't waited as long with no explanation. Great great place, many year passing by and this is our first time stopping here, they have great quality food, tasty and fresh. We will comeback many times. They have also a cool gift shop. Lots of places advertise pie, as it's a favorite of so many people. But Rustic Inn truly has fabulous pie - homemade crust and generous fillings, very much like my mom makes, which is high praise indeed! Dinner items are also good; I had the Olive Burger on one visit and the Wild Rice Meatloaf on another, both delicious. There is often a long wait for seating, but it's worth it, and they have a great shop attached to the restaurant to while away some of the time. There's also a nice, open front deck to do the same. This is out fav place to stop and eat when up at the north shore! We love the pie soo much! It's made with a meringue crust, which is beyond epic! Typically I get the turkey sandwich, but couldn't this time as I'm pregnant, so instead I tried the walleye tacos and they were just as amazing! Now I'm not sure what to order when I'm not pregnant! My husband Typically gets the ribs and loves them, bit decided to try something new because I was. He had the chicken sandwich and said it was good, just not rave worthy like the other food here. He said he would be going back to the ribs. We forgot photos, but im a slow eater so I did snag a photo of my one taco I hadn't dug into yet, and a photo of our pie. We have eaten here 3 or 4 times a year for the past 4 years and have never had bad service, even when the restaurant was jam packed with waiting line outside. Highly recommend this place! An easy to access location with nice decor (see photo), The Rustic Inn was a welcomed find as I was looking for an early dinner spot following a quick and enjoyable visit to Gooseberry Falls which is just north of the restaurant. I was also very interested in locating an alternative to Betty's pies which I've visited on various occasions and has continued to disappoint in terms of quality and value (yes, very overrated). Rustic Inn had a friendly and relatively attentive staff. It's a good- sized menu and I opted for the Cranberry Wild Reuben. Our food arrived in less than 10 minutes, looked good (see photo) and was served both hot and was tasty. The cranberry bread was a nice touch. My sister and I finished the meal with a piece of raspberry cream meringue pie which was cold, delicious and fresh. I feel good about stopping here and would recommend it to fellow Yelpers as they travel the North Shore. Don't automatically head for Betty's as there are better alternatives and this one appears to be the best of those alternatives. read more

We've been coming to Duluth and Two Harbors for years and never stopped here. We initially stopped based on the pie recommendations. We had to wait a bit for a seat but luckily they have a cute (expensive) gift shop you can peruse. After being seated many in our group decided they also wanted breakfast which was very reasonably priced. Food arrived quickly and was very flavorful. The hashbrowns were perfectly cooked as I tend to find people overcook them. I ordered apple pie which came out warm and perfect. My husband got the raspberry pie which was also amazing. I've never had raspberry pie before. I'd love to try a lot of their pie flavors and there are plenty to choose from. The inside cafe is nicely decorated with wood cozy walls and cute inspirations signs which I'm sure are sold from their gift shop. I'd definitely check this place out if you're in the area. read more

Stopped here for breakfast after camping. We had two specials- one with French toast, one with a waffle. Both with bacon and scrambled eggs. The waffle and French toast were fine. The eggs were bland and a little chewy. The bacon was terrible. Mine looked fine but was leathery and tasteless. My daughter's was leathery, tasteless AND looked terrible. Like yellowish with bubbles on it. Like so gross and so obviously not freshly cooked. I pointed it out to the waitress who said "no, it's fine, definitely not under a heat lamp. That's how our bacon always is." I'd bet it got cooked in a big batch and sat under a heat lamp to be added to orders. I had mine replaced with sausage patties , which seemed fresh off the grill and were hot and tasty. I mostly didn't like the waitress defending some really really bad food when it even looked terrible. My daughter ate her bacon because she is 13 and found me mortifying, but she said afterwards it was really really bad bacon. read more

Finally! We've found a restaurant with very good food, fun atmosphere and a server with an incredible attitude! We came in on a busy Sunday but the entire staff was friendly and in a light hearted attitude from the start. Michelle waited on us, big smile and openly shared what she liked and what looked good coming out of the kitchen. She was spot on for the food choice and cracking up the folks in her section. We were all full and all smiles! I make a big to do over this because this is what going out is supposed to be like!! I had the ribs. They fell off the bones. I added the super crispy tater tots for a plate big enough for two. The meat had a thick sweet bbq sauce that complemented the ribs well and gave me something to use the two big slices of fresh bread to clean up. My wife had the Cabonarra. Rich sauce, huge portion and fresh vegetables were terrific. Again a huge portion and included their fresh bread. We took home a couple of slices of their incredible pie. Again Michelle's pick, the peanut butter/chocolate and the blueberry cream. The blueberry crust was marang. So light yet so sweet. What a combination. Service was nice enough, the food was alright, the business practice is deplorable. There is a credit card surcharge of about 4% which is not spoken of or noted anywhere. For reasons unknown, you cannot avoid this by paying cash, apparently this is a new thing that was implemented by a recent change in management. We've stopped here twice on our annual trip to the North Shore. Both times the food had been good and the service friendly and efficient. It's usually bonkers busy with people like us heading Up North, but thanks to the attached gift shop killing the time waiting for a table isn't so bad. My husband and I just went to the Rustic Inn Cafe for breakfast while visiting the area. We were told it was a 40-minute wait, which was fine because we had heard such great things. It ended up being around an hour and 20-minute wait. In that time, they switched from breakfast to lunch and never told us. When we were finally seated, we were told breakfast was not an option. The woman seating us was abrupt and there were no apologies, no understanding. I am vegetarian and there were no good options on the lunch menu, so we let them know we were not going to stay to eat because we had gone there for breakfast and had waited over an hour; again, no apologies. The response we actually got was, "Perfect." We got a slice of pie for the road, which was delicious. All in all, they really need to work on their customer service, but they seemed uninterested in feedback. It was quite disappointing. read more

Tried this place for the first time after years of visiting the north shore. We had the best chicken wild rice soup EVER! It's a must-have on a cool fall day (or any day honestly). Tasty! Three burgers and the smoked salmon sandwich were all winners. The bacon on the burger was hearty. The salmon was smoked to perfection and the horseradish gave it another boost. The Rustic gets five stars from the get-go for its amazing pies. There are other pie places around the North Shore (ahem) but they can't beat the Rustic's cherry pie, or blueberry pie, or strawberry rhubarb; there are usually ten to twenty pies on the board. We have a family cabin not far from Two Harbors, and are regularly there to pick up dessert. And that's a good twenty summers we've been going! Still, the two or three times I've been to the Rustic for lunch or dinner, the variety of the menu (and its quality) was a pleasure to find. This place is a hidden jewel. The outward humble appearance is a setup !! Food is amazing and good staff too. Only place where I have ordered their wild rice meatloaf twice with a fried egg on top of it!!! Their pies are good too. Great seating capacity usually wait in less than 10 min if there is one. Update::Back again in 2019 Now rustic inn is our regular stop when we city folks decide to come up to the enchanting north. Let me put things in perspective, I have quit eating red meat since dec of last year. But I made/make an exception and enjoyed their wild rice meatloaf. That's right WildRice and Meatloaf, now that's a dam good combination, this is indeed a great minnesota thing, it's heavenly. It's truly one of the best! + Eggs!! Now let me give you a tip to put it over the top, and let you understand where I come from. if you dig their meatloaf as crazy as I do, try it with an over-easy fried egg on top and some tabasco sauce, it's da Meal !! Amazing! Just had a delicious meal for a party of five (including a toddler). The meatloaf dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy were out of this world. I knew I had to have the walleye when I spotted it on the menu and was so glad I did. The Walleye Picatta was out of this world! The white wine sauce topped with parmesan gremolata and capers was a super combination and put it over the top. My husband's choice of the special....a fish fry with Castle Danger Batter was not memorable. Hey, we hail from Milwaukee and know and miss our famous fish fries. But the advice to skip other pie shops and zero in on Rustic Inn's offerings was sound. If you are on a gluten free diet or if you just like lemon meringue, look no further than the Lemon Angel pie. Our lovely waitress suggested it from the many choices and we were so happy she did. It was divine and worth a stop anytime you're driving through Two Harbors.
